I. Durability Enhancement Program Introduction
A. Purpose
The purpose of the Durability Enhancement Program (DEP) is for Canon U.S.A.
(Canon USA) to provide an efficient, cost effective method by which dealerships
can assist their high volume customers in enhancing the performance life of their
imagePRESS C7010VP Series (imagePRESS C7010VP/C6010VP/C6010),
imagePRESS C7010VPS Series (imagePRESS C7010VPS/C6010VPS/C6010S)
and POD Decks (POD Deck-A1 and Secondary POD Deck-A1).
B. Overview
Canon USA dealerships can assist their high volume customers in enhancing the
performance of their imagePRESS C7010VP Series and imagePRESS
C7010VPS Series devices as usage extends towards the device’s Estimated
Performance Standard (EPS) of 18 million prints (based on Letter sized paper) or
five (5) years, whichever comes first.
The EPS is based on a Canon Inc. estimation using quality evaluation standards
and can be achieved when the imagePRESS is maintained or serviced by a
Canon authorized field service technician using only genuine Canon parts. The
EPS may vary based on the actual customer usage, environment, Job Types,
and Media Types.
The EPS is provided as a guideline for implementation of the DEP and is not to
be considered part of the product warranty or used in conjunction with the
product warranty.

II. DEP Part Replacement
The successful execution of the DEP requires periodic replacement of DEP Parts in
the Main Unit (the imagePRESS C7010VP Series or imagePRESS C7010VPS) and
POD Decks when the 102 Total 2 counter reaches nine (9) million prints / copies.
To simplify the DEP process, Canon USA has grouped the DEP parts into five (5)
strategic kits based on the area to be serviced. Ordering strategic kits reduces part
inventory and the wait time for ordering DEP parts together. Each strategic kit has a
unique part number and may be shipped in several boxes.Strategic kits allow the
dealer to stagger DEP service and reduce inconvenience to the customer.
The DEP parts kits are available at a 30% price reduction off the total cost of
ordering each part separately. This presents a cost effective alternative to ordering
individual parts, collecting them, and bringing them to the customer site for
installation at the appropriate interval.
Notes:
•Dealers may order DEP Kits by the part numbers provided. However, because of
component parts size limitations, Canon USA must offer the kits in multiple
cartons instead of one kit per carton.
•In the event a Purchase Order includes multiple kits and other line items, Canon
USA cannot separate the kit component parts by each DEP kit. Therefore, it is
highly recommended that one order be placed per strategic kit.
•Drop shipments to customer locations will be accepted, if you provide the
address at time of order placement.
•Canon USA requires a period of up to six (6) months to prepare each DEP kit for
delivery. Therefore, check your customer’s meter readings to forecast when they
will reach the replacement interval. Order the DEP kit(s) at least six (6) months
before you plan to perform the installation.
The DEP part kits are available based on the area of the imagePRESS to be
serviced.

•A Paper Feed Unit Kit includes the DEP parts for one paper deck. A Paper Feed
Unit Kit must be ordered for each paper deck in the Main Unit (two paper decks)

•The DEP parts usage in each paper deck is based on the customer usage of
each paper deck. The dealer must monitor the customer usage of each paper
deck separately and replace DEP parts only for the paper deck that reaches nine
(9) million prints / copies (Letter).
•The Soft Counter does not display the amount of clicks based on paper usage of
each paper deck. However, the counter information can be accessed in Service
Mode. Refer to the Service Manual of the Main Unit for detailed procedures
required to retrieve the counter information.

III. DEP Planning
A. Suggested Guidelines
To enable successful implementation of the DEP with imagePRESS C7010VP
Series and imagePRESS C7010VPS Series customers, Canon USA strongly
recommends that the servicing Dealers follow these guidelines:
•When creating a service contract, Canon USA recommends that the
customer’s usage factors (monthly print/copy volume, Letter/Large paper ratio,
Maintenance Agreement term and possible extensions to the Maintenance
Agreement) be considered to determine if and when the DEP is required
during the Maintenance Agreement Term.
•If the DEP is required during the Maintenance Agreement term, apply an
appropriate Maintenance Rate pricing with your customers taking the DEP
parts and labor costs into consideration.
•Monitor the 102 total 2 counter of each imagePRESS in your install base to
estimate when each machine will require the DEP.
•Allow sufficient lead-time to order the DEP parts from Canon USA (The
recommended sufficient lead-time is six (6) months).
•Schedule the DEP Service with each customer. To reduce inconvenience to
the customer, the complete DEP Service may be divided into smaller stages
(that can be completed over a period of weeks) based on the areas to be
serviced and output quality need:
•Image Processing Unit
•Paper Feed Unit (one kit per paper deck [Main Unit and POD Deck])
•Vertical Path Unit
•Upper Feed Unit
•Lower Feed Unit

B. DEP Print Volume
It is important to estimate the total print volume of a customer’s machine to
determine estimated costs and offer an appropriate maintenance price.
The Estimated Five-Year Total Print Volume in Table 3 below displays the
expected total print volume over five (5) years (in millions of letter size sheets)
based on the monthly print volume and large paper ratio.
The Estimated Months Between DEP Service in Table 4 below displays the
estimated number of months between each DEP Service requirement based on
the monthly print volume and large paper ratio.
The cells in yellow indicate situations where the total print volume over a five (5)
year maintenance agreement may meet or exceed nine (9) million letter size
sheets. Canon USA suggests applying DEP Service in these cases.

IV. DEP Parts Installation Requirements
A. Estimated Parts Costs and Installation Times
A significant part costs and labor time is required to complete the DEP parts
replacement (refer to the table below). When scheduling DEP service with the
customer, consider the estimated time required for each area to be serviced. To
reduce inconvenience to the customer, the complete DEP Service may be
divided into smaller stages (that can be completed over a period of weeks) based
on the areas to be serviced and output quality need.

B. Installation Guide
The DEP Installation Guide for the imagePRESS C7010VP/C7010VPS Series
details the steps required to install the DEP Parts provided by Canon USA. The
Installation Guide is available on the Canon e-Support Center Web site.
C. Special Tools, Solvents & Oils
The tools, solvents and oils required to install/replace DEP parts are the same as
the standard tools used to service the imagePRESS C7010VP Series and
imagePRESS C7010VPS Series. Reference the imagePRESS Service Guide
and Service Manual for a list of required service tools, solvents and oils.

Individual parts within the DEP part kit may be ordered separately however the 30%
price reduction will not be applied.
Note: Performance issues may occur if the DEP Kits are not used at the
