About Lotus Notes and FaxPress Enterprise Integration
1—4
Implementing the Email Gateway for SMTP by itself, without the FaxPress Enterprise Mail Template,
provides limited integration and allows users to send faxes from the Notes Inbox by using a fax-specific
manual addressing format. Using the Email Gateway for SMTP by itself does not distribute a new custom,
fax-enabled mail template, and does not affect the existing Notes Mail template.
The Enterprise's versatile embedded Email Gateway for SMTP is an RFC-821 compliant, 32-bit Windows-
based service that usesSMTP to communicatewithyour Domino server andCastelleProgram Interface (CPI)
to communicate with the FaxPress Enterprise.
The Email Gateway for SMTP’s fax features are available to both local and offsite FaxPress Enterprise users,
and allow email messages to be sent to both fax and email recipients simultaneously.
About the Lotus Notes Gateway
The FaxPress Enterprise Lotus Notes Gateway is a 32-bit Windows-based application, using VIM to
communicate with the Domino server and Castelle Program Interface (CPI) to communicate with the
FaxPress Enterprise. The Gateway is installed on a Notes client workstation. Using a Notes client account,
the Lotus Notes Gateway logs on to the Domino server, routes incoming faxes as memos to Notes client
mailboxes, and picks up fax-bound memos and delivers them to the FaxPress Enterprise server for conversion
to fax format and transmission.
Installing as a service on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 allows the Lotus Notes Gateway to invoke the
applications required to convert email attachments to a faxable format. The FaxPress Enterprise Lotus Notes
Gateway includes the faxpress.nsf and Mail50.ntf databases residing on the Domino server. The Lotus Notes
Gateway consists of two components:
•Notegtwy.exe is a service that communicates with your FaxPress Enterprise and Domino servers.
•LNGconfig.exe is a configuration utility for the Gateway. The Gateway can be configured while
running or when it is shut down.
Outbound Faxes
The way outbound faxes are addressed and sent depends on which integration option you implement. (See
Integration Options on page 1-3.) The integration options using the FaxPress Enterprise Mail Template
provide full Notes Address Book integration for sending faxes. The standalone Email Gateway for SMTP
option requires a fax-specific manual addressing book format and does not provide Notes Address Book
integration.
Sending a fax with the FaxPress Enterprise Mail Template allows the user to enter the recipient’s fax number
by selecting an address book entry. Any Address Book entry with an Office Fax number may be used. The
Domino server passes the message to the Gateway (either the Email Gateway for SMTP or the Lotus Notes
Gateway). The Gateway then prepares the message for the FaxPress Enterprise. First, the fax number and
other address information is extracted, then the Gateway logs onto the FaxPress Enterprise and accesses the
user’s account for additional information.
Next, the Gateway converts any attached files to faxable format. The Gatewayuses the available NT services
to open files in their native application and create a faxable format. If you’re using the VIM-based Notes
Gateway, the native applications must be installed on the Gateway computer and the Gateway user must be
