1. GENERA INFORMATION

1.1. WARRANTED INFORMATION
The ADA-1040 converter i covered by a two year warranty from date of ale. The warranty doe not cover damage cau ed from
improper u e, material con umption or any unauthorized change . If the product doe not function (i damaged), or not operate in
accordance with the in truction will be repaired.
All warranty and no warranty repair mu t be returned with paid tran port and in uring to the CE -MAR Company.
CE -MAR Company under no circum tance won't be re pon ible for en uing damage from improper u ing the product or a a re ult
of random cau e : the lightning di charge, the flood, the fire and the like.
CE -MAR Company i not be held re pon ible for damage and lo including: lo of profit , lo of data, pecuniary lo e en uing
from u ing or the impo ibility of u ing thi product.
In pecific ca e CE -MAR Company di continue all warrantie and in particular do not follow the u er manual and do not accept

1.2. GENERA CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE
The device hould be in talled in a afe and table place (eg, electroin tallation cabinet), the powering cable hould be arranged o
a not to be expo ed to trampling, attaching, or pulling out of the circuit.
Do not put device on the wet urface.
Do not connect device for nonde cript powering ource ,
Do not damage or cru h powering wire .
Do not make connection with wet hand .
Do not adapt, open or make hole in ca ing of the device!
Do not immer e device in water or no other liquid.
Do not put the fire opened on device ource : candle , an oil lamp and the like.
Complete di able from the upply network i only after di connecting the power upply circuit voltage.
Do not carry out the a embly or di -a embly of the device if it i enabled. Thi may re ult to hort circuit and damage the device.
The device can not be u ed for application that determine human life and health (eg. Medical).

2. PRODUCT INFORMATION
2.1. PROPERTIES

2.2. DESCRIPTION
Many device uch a PLC , mea uring tran ducer, en or , ca h regi ter and electronic cale are equipped with RS232
communication port. However, the tandard 232 ha limitation on cable length (the di tance at which tran mi ion functioning
properly i 15m). Solution to thi problem i to u e the RS485/422 data tran mi ion tandard. It let connect together di tant device
at 1200m.
ADA-1040 convert RS232 tandard to RS485/RS422 without interfering with format of tran mitted data. Converter doe not require
power upply from RS232 port and upport the a ynchronou tran mi ion data with baud rate 230,4 kbp .
ADA-1040 ha DB-9F connector (DCE type) to connecting RS232 interface in u e of RS232 exten ion cable (a typical modem cable)
without interleaving of Tx with Rx, RTS with CTS and DTR with DSR. Converter ha al o crew terminal block for connection of
RS485/422 network and power upply. Thi device u e Rx, Tx and GND ignal for operating and additionally DTR, DSR in extended
ver ion. Galvanic i olation and optoi olation (in ignal channel) eparate RS232 interface from RS485/422 interface and protect a
device connected to RS232 port from overvoltage on RS485/422 network and power upply. Overvoltage protection wa made on
ba e afety diode and fu e on each RS485/RS422 line .
ADA-1040 hould be powered from tabili ed power pack with minimum power output 2W and voltage form the cope 10 – 30VDC.

2.3. CONVERSION OF TX, RX, DTR, DSR SIGNA S OF RS232 INTERFACE
In additional ver ion ADA-1040(x-2-x-x) can convert DTR, DSR or RTS, CTS ignal of RS232 interface to RS485/422 in POINT-TO-
POINT operating mode. Tho e additional ignal are being connecting to ADA-1040 through DB-9 ocket to 4-DTR and 6-DSR pins.
ATTENTION!
If the signals RTS and CTS need to be converted, should be solder wires at DB-9M plug as below:
RTS – PIN7 to PIN 4
CTS – PIN 8 to PIN6.

2.4. ISO ATION
Converter ADA-1040 ha 2-way or 3-way and 1kV= or 3kV= galvanic i olation (depend on ver ion), thi will be de cribed in ection

3. INSTA ATION
Thi chapter will how how to connect ADA-1040 to RS485/422 bu , device with RS232 interface and power upply.
To reduce di turbance from environment, it i recommended to:
–u e multipair type hielded cable , which hield can be connected to the earthing on one end of the cable,
–u e the uitable diameter cable for power upply on account of voltage drop,
–u e the powering cable with a uitable ection becau e of the voltage drop ,
–u e the interference eliminator for powering the converter,
–lay ignal cable at a di tance of not le than 25 cm away from power cable ,
–not powering the converter form the power-circuit of device generate large impul e di turbance like contactor , relay , inverter .
3.1. ASSEMB ING
ADA-1040 converter ca e i adapted to a embly on TS-35 (DIN35) rail. To in tall converter hould mount device on the rail upper
part of the ca e then pre bottom part to hearing characteri tic „Click” ound.

3.3.4. EXTENSION OF RS232 PORT

3.3.5. GND TERMINA CONNECTION
Connection of GND terminal of RS485/422 interface , device connected to RS485/422 bu , hould be done in the ca e of a
potential difference of the ignal ground on interface RS485 / RS422, which prevent proper data tran mi ion.
Cannot connect to the GND terminal - cables screens, PE circuit of electrical installation, signals grounds of other devices.
3.3.6. INE TERMINATION
The application of Line Termination (terminator) Rt = 120 ohm will reduce electrical reflection in data line at high baud rate. It i not
needed below 9600Bd. The Line Termination re i tor hould be u ed if the di tance i over 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @ 19200Bd
tran mi ion, the re i tor can be nece ary if there are problem with the tran mi ion correctne . The terminator /re i tor are
connected to the terminal block of ADA-1040 on the RS485/RS422 interface. Example connection of Rt are hown on Fig. 7, 8 & 9.

3.4. POWER SUPP Y
The power upply to ADA-1040 hould be DC (regulated) from the cope 10 V= to 30V= and nominal power more then 2W. The power
cable from DC power upplie to the device mu t not be longer than 3m. Ob erve the polarity, connect po itive (+) of DC power
upplie to V+ and negative (-) end to V- terminal. ADA-1040 ha the protection from oppo ite connection power upply.
If after power, on the front panel i not lit green LED PWR, check the power connection (polarity).
4. CONFIGURATION
For configuration of ADA-1040 operating mode u e a ix-po ition dip witch SW1.
The SW1 i located next to DB-9 connector (Fig.1) under the cover. For etting, remove the cover and u e mall, flat crewdriver.

4.3. START-UP
Converter can be powered after proper connection according to tep above.
If connection wa made properly green LED PWR on front panel of converter hould light, if not check polarization of power
connection. When data are pre ent the LED Tx and Rx hould blinking.
