Th industrial addr ssabl RS-485 conv rt r to 1-WIRE ADA-401WA nabl s on basis of th RS485 bus to build th n twork with
addr ssabl nod , to which it is possibl to conn ct a lot of d vic s with th 1-WIRE int rfac so as: arrang m nts for th
m asur m nt of th t mp ratur , clocks of th r al tim , th EPROM m mory, A/C conv rt rs, for and th lik . Applying ADA-401WA
conv rt r as addr ssabl nod for th 1-WIRE bus incr as th distanc up to 1200m b tw n 1-WIRE d vic s and th comput r
with th monitoring softwar or oth r th MASTER typ d vic . This distanc can b incr as d for anoth r 1200m by using ADA-4040
r p at r.
Th DS2480B syst m provid conv rsion from 1-WIRE int rfac to RS-485 int rfac in ADA-401WA and th conv rt r of TTL l v ls
on RS-485. It's x mpt th us r from go into d tails of th nough complicat d 1-WIRE protocol.
Applying th additional RS-485 conv rt r to RS-232 ADA-1040 or USB to RS-485 ADA-I9140 nabl s to monitor and/or to control th
1-WIRE n gotiations through th RS-232 int rfac or USB in th comput r of th class quipp d with th PC into th appropriat
softwar . CEL-MAR Company giv s th mat rials to cr ating softwar on th basis of ADA-401WA conv rt rs.
ADA-401WA is quipp d with scr w t rminal for twist d conn ction of 1-WIRE and RS-485 bus, as w ll as for conn cting th pow r
supply.

2 3 APPLICATION

2 4 MICROLAN – NETWORKS WITH 1-WIRE CHIPS
Th cr ators of 1-WIRE chips of n w g n ration for s th possibility of building n tworking syst ms with th ir us . With th
standard syst m of data transmission addr ssing for 1-WIRE, th protocol us d to xchang data is inh r ntly n twork protocol. Th
data transmission addr ssing li s in th fact that ach 1-WIRE chip has a uniqu , 8-byt s cod sav d in th int rnal ROM m mory.
Th manufactur r guarant s that this cod is uniqu and r l vant only to that audio chip.
2 5 CONVERSION OF 1-WIRE TO RS-485 STANDARDS
B caus of th fairly compl x 1-WIRE protocol, ADA-401WA conv rt r is quipp d with a microproc ssor, which mak asy acc ss to
1-WIRE from a s rial RS-485 bus. Communication with d vic conn ct d to 1-WIRE is s nding/r c iving th appropriat command

Conv rt r ADA-401WA has 2-way, 1kV= or 3kV= galvanic isolation (d p nd on v rsion, d scrib d in s ction VERSIONS).

3 INSTALLATION
This chapt r will show how to conn ct ADA-401WA to PC, RS485/422 bus, 1-WIRE lin and pow r supply and how to us it.

3 1 ASSEMBLING
ADA-401WA conv rt r cas is adapt d to ass mbly on TS-35 (DIN35) rail. To install conv rt r should mount d vic on th rail upp r
part of th cas th n pr ss bottom part to h aring charact ristic „Click” sound.
3 2 CONNECTION TO PC
ADA-401WA can b conn ct d to RS232 port or USB of PC by th us of additional conv rt r g. RS232 to RS485 (ADA-1040) or
USB to RS485 (ADA-I9140). Th conn ction is mad via RS485 bus or RS422 bus, as on th figur b llow.

3 3 1 LINE TERMINATION
Th application of Lin T rmination (t rminator) Rt = 120 W (ohms) will r duc l ctrical r fl ction in data lin at high baud rat . It is
not n d d b low 9600Bd. Th Lin T rmination r sistor should b us d if th distanc is ov r 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @

3 4 2 LIMITATIONS OF 1-WIRE BUS
Th maximum l ngth of 1-wir bus as layouts produc r can b v n 400m and th maximum numb r of s nsors can b 500.

RECOMMENDS:
–application of twisted cables UTP 4x2x0,5,
–powered converter with an individual power supply with good parameters, eg DR-15-24,
–linear topology of 1-WIRE bus (sensors in a star topology can be converted to linear topology by using Passive 1-WIRE
Bus Splitter ADA-DNB400),
–finishing 1-WIRE bus by sensor,
–connecting unused wires and screen cable to rail EP of electrical installation

3 5 POWER SUPPLY
Th pow r supply to ADA-40WA should b DC (r gulat d) from th scop 10 V= to 30V= and nominal pow r mor th n 3W g. DR-
15-24. Th pow r cabl from DC pow r suppli s to th d vic must not b long r than 3m. Obs rv th polarity, conn ct positiv (+)
of DC pow r suppli s to V + and n gativ (-) nd to V - t rminal.
3 6 ACTIVATION
Conv rt r can b pow r d aft r prop r conn ction according to st ps abov . If conn ction was mad prop rly gr n LED PWR on
front pan l of conv rt r should light, if not ch ck corr ctn ss of pow r conn ction. ADA401WA has th prot ction against pow r
supply r v rs conn ction. During corr ctn ss data transition via th conv rt r th LEDs Tx and Rx should blinking.

At baud rate above 19200 bps the LED's Tx, Rx will light weakly during data transmission
4 CONFIGURATION
4 1 OPERATION MODE

4 2 CONFIGURATION
Th configuration of ADA-401WA conv rt r can b mad by th us of ADAConfig Softwar – CD s lling with conv rt r.
To mak th configuration, conn ct conv rt r to comput r (s pt. 3.2) and pow r supply. If aft r pow r, on th front pan l is not lit
gr n LED PWR, ch ck th pow r conn ction (polarity). If th PWR LED lights, s t th s ction of SW1 switch to configuration mod
as in tabl b low.

In th configuration mod th y llow LED locat d by SW1 micro-switch will blink with fr qu ncy 1 Hz. Start th ADAConfig Software
(fig. B low) and mak th configuration of transmission param t rs for RS485/422 int rfac s and s t his visibl addr ss from RS485
bus. Can b s t also som of param t rs th int rnal int rfac of conv rt r, for communication with DS2480B circuit. First should b
s t th numb r of COM port for communication with th conv rt r, th n r adout th configuration from ADA-401WA m mory using th
button [Read converter configuration] and mak th prop r chang s of int rfac s tting. If th option Addr ssing Conv rt r will b
s t, on configuration window should b s t prop r conv rt r addr ss from rang 1 - 255. If this option is disabl th conv rt r will
op rat s as protocol conv rt r RS485 to 1-WIRE.
In both cas s, is possibl to s t additional transmission param t rs for RS485/422 int rfac as b low:
– baud rat on RS485/422 bus (kbps): 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 4.8, 7.2, 9.6, 14.4, 19.2, 28.8, 38.4, 57.6, 76.8, 115.2, 230.4,
– numb r of data bit s: 5, 6, 7, 8,
– control parity: no control, parity control, control of non parity,
– numb r of stop bits : 1, 2,
– fram spacing – rang from 4 to 255 (tim sil nc as fram 's nd),

4 3 DATA TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTICS
To r adout diagnostics should b s t SW1 microswitch to th configuration mod (s pt. 4.1.).

r al sp d of data transmission. Parity rror count r will b count th rrors which can aris in cas of misr pr s nt byt s in
transmitt d sign. This count r will not works in cas of disabl control parity. To ch ck thos count rs pr ss th button [Read
