Claims
Carefully unpack the product immediately, and check the box to make sure all the parts
are in the package and are in good condition.
If the box or the contents (the product and included accessories) appear damaged from
shipping or show signs of mishandling, notify the carrier immediately, not CHAUVET®.
Failure to report damage to the carrier immediately may invalidate your claim. In
addition, keep the box and contents for inspection.
For other issues, such as missing components or parts, damage not related to shipping,
or concealed damage, file a claim with CHAUVET® within 7 days of delivery.

Safety Notes
Read all the following Safety Notes before working with this product. These notes
include important information about the installation, usage, and maintenance of this
product.
This product contains no user-serviceable parts. Any reference to servicing in
this User Manual will only apply to properly trained CHAUVET® certified
technicians. Do not open the housing or attempt any repairs.
All applicable local codes and regulations apply to proper installation of this
product.
Personal Safety
•Avoid direct eye exposure to the light source while the product is on.
•Always disconnect this product from its power source before servicing.
•Always connect this product to a grounded circuit to avoid the risk of
electrocution.
•Do not touch this product’s housing during operation because it may be very hot.
Mounting and
Rigging •This product is for indoor use only! To prevent risk of fire or shock, do not
expose this product to rain or moisture.
•Make sure there are no flammable materials close to this product while it is
operating.
•When hanging this product, always secure to a fastening device using a safety
cable (included).
Power and Wiring
•Always make sure you are connecting this product to the proper voltage in
accordance with the specifications in this manual or on the product’s
specification label.
•Never connect this product to a dimmer pack or rheostat.
•Never disconnect this product by pulling or tugging on the power cable.
Operation
•Do not operate this product if you see damage on the housing, lenses, or
cables. Have the damaged parts replaced by an authorized technician at once.
•Do not cover the ventilation slots when operating to avoid internal overheating.
•The maximum ambient temperature is 113 °F (45 °C). Do not operate this
product at a higher temperature.
•In case of a serious operating problem, stop using this product immediately!
In the unlikely event that your CHAUVET® product may require service, contact
CHAUVET® Technical Support.
Expected LED
Lifespan LEDs gradually decline in brightness over time, mostly because of heat. Packaged in
clusters, LEDs exhibit higher operating temperatures than in ideal, single-LED
conditions. For this reason, using clustered LEDs at their fullest intensity significantly
reduces the LEDs’ lifespan. Under normal conditions, this lifespan can be 40,000 to
50,000 hours. If extending this lifespan is vital, lower the operating temperature by
improving the ventilation around the product and reducing the ambient temperature to
an optimal operating range. In addition, limiting the overall projection intensity may also
help to extend the LEDs’ lifespan.

2. Introduction
Description
Nexus™ 4x4 is a tour-ready wash light capable of delivering a pixel mapping display and
an output of sixteen 27-watt RGB COB LEDs. The combination of COB emitters and a
clever reflector design yields a diffused light with saturated hues. Nexus™ 4x4 is
controllable via Art-Net™, Kling-Net, and DMX protocols. It also features interlocking
hardware to build large arrays.

3. Setup
AC Power
The Nexus™ 4x4 has an auto-ranging power supply that works with an input voltage
range of 100~240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. To determine the power requirements for each
Nexus™ 4x4, refer to the label affixed to the product. You can also refer to the
Technical
Specifications section in this manual.
The listed current rating indicates the maximum current draw during normal operation.
For more information, you may download Sizing Circuit Breakers from the CHAUVET®
website: www.chauvetpro.com.
Always connect this product to a protected circuit with an appropriate electrical
ground to avoid the risk of electrocution or fire.
Never connect this product to a rheostat (variable resistor) or dimmer circuit, even
if the rheostat or dimmer channel serves only as a 0 to 100% switch.
AC Plug
The Nexus™ 4x4 comes with a power input cord terminated with a Neutrik®
powerCON® connector on one end and an Edison plug on the other end (U.S. market).
If the power input cord that came with your product has no plug, or if you need to change
the Edison plug, use the table below to wire the new plug.

Make sure to disconnect the product’s power cord before replacing a blown fuse.
Always replace with a fuse of the same type and rating.
Fuse Replacement
1. Disconnect this product from the power outlet.
2. Using a flat-head screwdriver, unscrew the fuse holder cap from the housing.
3. Remove the blown fuse and replace with a good fuse of the same type and rating
(T 5 A, 250 V).
4. Screw the fuse holder cap back in place and reconnect power.

Power Linking
The Nexus™ 4x4 supports power linking. You can power link up to:
•4 products at 120 VAC, or
•8 products at 230 VAC
This product comes with a power input cord. This product does not come with a power
linking cable; however, a power linking cable is available as an option.

DMX Linking
You can link the Nexus™ 4x4 to a DMX controller using a standard DMX serial
connection. If using other DMX compatible products with the Nexus™ 4x4, you can
control each individually with a single DMX controller.
DMX Modes
The Nexus™ 4x4 uses the standard DMX data connection for the 3, 5, 9, 48 and 53
channel DMX modes.
•Refer to the Introduction section for a brief description of these modes.
•Refer to the Operation section to learn how to configure the Nexus™ 4x4 to
work in these modes.
•The DMX Values section will provide you with detailed information regarding the
DMX modes.
Master/Slave
Connectivity
The Master/Slave mode allows a Nexus™ 4x4 (the “master product”) to control one or
more Nexus™ 4x4s (the “slave products”) without a DMX controller. One Nexus™ 4x4
becomes the master product when running an Auto program, or by being in STATIC
mode.
You must configure each slave product’s control panel to operate in SLAVE mode.
During Master/Slave operation, the slave products will operate in unison with the master
product.
•When operating in the Master/Slave mode, do not connect a DMX controller
to the product as the DMX controller signals may interfere with the signals
from the master product.
•Master/Slave connections use the 3- and 5-pin XLR connections only.
Products connected via the etherCON® connection will not function
correctly.
The Operation section provides detailed instructions on how to configure the Master and
Slave products.

connectivity, or the DMX cables needed to link this product to a DMX controller,

Art-Net™
Connection
Art-Net™ is an Ethernet protocol that uses TCP/IP to transfer large amounts of DMX512
data over a network. Art-Net™ uses the Neutrik® etherCON® connection. An Art-Net™
protocol document is available from www.chauvetpro.com. Art-Net™ is designed and
copyright by Artistic License Holdings Ltd.
The Art-Net™ protocol is designed to work with nodes and Ethernet hubs, or switches in
“Star Topology”. CHAUVET determined the Nexus™ 4x4 products can run in serial
topology for configuration of up to 12 fixtures. For systems larger than 12 fixtures,
CHAUVET recommends using the star-topography as detailed under the TCP/IP
Protocol.
Kling-Net
Connection
Kling-Net is a network protocol to allow auto configuration of display devices over the
Ethernet. Kling-Net uses the Neutrik® etherCON® connection. For more information,
please contact ArKaos directly.
For a smooth-running operation, ArKaos Kling-Net requires a gigabit (1000 Mbps)
Ethernet card and network switch.

Mounting
Before mounting this product, read and follow the guidelines outlined in the Safety
Notes section.
Orientation
Always mount this product in a safe position and make sure there is adequate room for
ventilation, configuration, and maintenance.
Rigging
The Nexus™ 4x4 consists of a bracket and body. CHAUVET® recommends using the
following guidelines when mounting this product.
•When selecting an installation location, consider easy access to this product for
operation, programming adjustments, and routine maintenance.
•Make sure to mount this product away from any flammable material as indicated
in the Safety Notes.
•Never mount in places where rain, high humidity, extreme temperature changes,
or restricted ventilation may affect the product.
•If hanging this product, make sure that the mounting location can support the
product’s weight. See the Technical Specifications for the weight-bearing
requirements of this product.
•When hanging this product, always secure to a fastening device using a safety
cable (included).
Procedure
The product can be mounted in almost any orientation provided each individual product
is secured through the mounting bracket. The coffin locks are for product alignment only
and are not weight bearing. DO NOT hang product using only the coffin locks. You must
supply your own mounting clamps. Make sure the clamps are capable of supporting the
weight of this product. Use at least one mounting point per product.
The Nexus™ 4x4 comes with an adjustable mounting bracket with three (3) 13
mm holes
which serves as a floor or wall mount support.

Pipe/Truss Mounting
Only use the coffin locks to align the product; it is not intended to be used for
bearing weight. Do not hang the product only using the coffin locks.

Control Panel
Description
Button Function
<MENU>
Scrolls through the main menu and exits from the current menu
or function
<ENTER>
Enables the currently displayed menu or sets the currently
selected value in to the current function

Navigates upward through the menu list and increases the
numeric value when in a function
<DOWN>
Navigates downward through the menu list and decreases the
numeric value when in a function
Programming the
Nexus™ 4x4
Refer to the Menu Map to understand the menu options. The menu map shows the main
level and a variable number of programming levels for each option.
•To navigate to the desired main level, press <MENU> repeatedly until the
desired option is displayed on the control panel. Press <ENTER> to select the
desired option. This will take you to the first programming level for that option.
•To select an option or value within the current programming level, press <UP>
or
<DOWN> until the option shows on the display. Press <ENTER> to select. In
this case, if there is another programming level, you will see that first option, or
you will see the selected value.
•Press <MENU> repeatedly to exit to the previous main level.
Auto Programs
Auto programs allow for dynamic RGB color mixing without a DMX controller.
1. Go to Auto Show.
2. Select the desired Auto (01~12) or Fade program.

Show Speed (000~100)

You cannot edit any of the auto programs.
Static Color
The Static Color mode allows for preset or custom RGB color mixing without a DMX
controller.
1. Go to the Static main level.
2. Select Fixture Color or Manual Color.
a. Fixture Color:
i. Select desired color (R, G, B, GB, RB, RG, or RGB).
b. Manual Color:
i. Select the desired color (R, G, or B).
ii. Select the desired color value (000~255).
iii. Repeat the steps for each color.
Dimmer Curves
This setting determines how fast the output of the Nexus™ 4x4 changes when you
modify the values of the red, green, blue, and dimmer faders. This setting provides 3
different options to simulate the dimming curve of an incandescent lighting product.
1. Go to the Dimmer Mode main level.
2. Select a dimmer curve (

OFF:
The output is proportional (linear) to the Dimmer and RGB channel values.
DIM1~3:
The output follows the dimmer and RGB channel values based on the
corresponding dimmer curve, being DIM1 the fastest and DIM3the
slowest.

Display Backlight
This setting determines how long the backlight on the display stays on.
1. Go to the Back Lite main level.
2. Select the desired amount of time the backlight display will stay on after pressing
the last menu button (

Product Information
This menu option provides software information that is needed for certain programming
functions and software uploads.
1. Go to the Info main level.
2. Select the desired program level based on the information required.
a. Fixture Hours – Displays the amount of time the product has been in use.
b. Version – Displays the software version installed.
c. IP Address – Displays the product’s IP address.
d. Device ID – Displays the product’s ID number (used for Kling-Net only).
DMX Control
In this mode, each product will respond to a unique starting address from the DMX
controller. All products with the same starting address will respond in unison.
1. Select a DMX personality (see DMX Personality).
2. Set the starting address:
a. Go to DMX Address main level.
b. Select the starting address (001~512).
DMX Personality
This setting allows you to choose a particular DMX personality.
1. Go to the DMX Channel main level.
2. Select the desired

For the highest starting address you can select for each personality, see the DMX
Values section.
Make sure that the starting addresses on the various products do not overlap due to the
new personality setting.

Master/Slave
The Master/Slave mode allows a group of Nexus™ 4x4s (slave units) to simultaneously
duplicate the output of another Nexus™ 4x4 (master unit) without a DMX controller.
1. Setting each of the slave products:
a. Go to Master/Slave main level.
b. Select Slave.
2. Setting the master product:
a. Go to Master/Slave main level.
b. Select Master.
c. Select an auto program (see Auto Programs), or a static mix of colors (see
Static Color).
•The master product runs a program whether in Auto or Static color mode.
•Do not connect a DMX controller to the products configured for Master/Slave
operation. The DMX controller may interfere with signals from the master product.
•The master product should be the first product in the daisy chain.

White Calibration
This setting allows you to define the color temperature used when the DMX controller’s
faders (red, green, blue) are set to “255.”
1. Go to the White main level.
2. Select the desired color (R, G, or B).
3. Select the desired color value (125~255).
4. Repeat the steps for each color.
Fan Control
The Nexus™ 4x4 allows you to adjust the fan speed for quiet operation.
1. Go to the Fan Speed main level.
2. Select the desired

This main level displays the product’s internal temperature.

Protocols
This setting allows you to choose a particular Ethernet protocol setting.
1. Go to Ethernet Settings > Protocol.
2. Select the desired mode (Kling-Net or Art-Net).
a. Kling-Net: All settings are preconfigured by the ArKaos Media Master
software. Note: Verify the software is running to receive an IP address.
b. Art-Net:
i. IP Mode:
a. Select DHCP to seek an address from the router or Static to use the
products factory preset IP Address.
ii. Net:
a. Select the desired value (000~127). Note: Setting is used for
consoles running Art-Net™ 3 or above.
iii. Subnet:
1. Select the desired value (00~15).
iv. Universe:

Reset to Factory
Default
This procedure allows you to reset the Nexus™ 4x4 to the default factory values.
1. Turn off the power to the Nexus™ 4x4.
2. Press and hold <MENU> and <ENTER>.
3. Turn on the power to the Nexus™ 4x4.
4. Release <MENU> and <ENTER> when Factory reset? ENTER = Confirm is
displayed on the control panel.
5. Press <ENTER>.
6. Wait for the reset process to finish.

Nexus™ 4x4 Software Upgrade Instructions
The following steps were used in the Windows® 7 operating system environment.
Step 1:
1. Connect the Nexus™ 4x4 to the router.
2. Verify the computer is using the same network
as the Nexus™ 4x4 product.
Step 2:
1. From the Nexus™ 4x4 main level, navigate to
the Ethernet Settings.
Step 3:
1. Select Protocol.
2. Select Art-Net.
3. Select IP Mode (verify the Static setting is
selected).
Step 4:
1. From the Windows® start menu, click the Start
button.
2. From the Search box, type Network and
Sharing Center. Windows will generate the
search results in the Start window.
3. Select Network and Sharing Center. The
Network and Sharing Center dialog appears.

Step 5:
1. Select the desired network the product is
connected to.
NOTE: If you are running a hard-wired line from the
PC to your router, then select Local Area
Connection).

2. Click Properties.

Step 6:
1. From the Networking tab, select Internet
Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
2. Click Properties.
The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Properties dialog appears.
Step 7:
1. From the General tab, select Use the following
IP address:.
2. Enter the following information:
a. Enter 2.255.0.0 in the IP address box.
b. Enter 255.0.0.0 in the Subnet mask box.
3. Click OK.
4. Close existing dialogs that are currently open.
5. Minimize the Control Panel, as it will be
necessary to access this window after the
software upgrade is uploaded to the product.
