fer of risks, the goods are subject to influences not agreed upon in the contract, all guarantee claims of the pur-
chaser will be rendered invalid. Not included in the guarantee coverage are system failures which are attributed to
programs or special electronic circuitry provided by the purchaser, e.g. interfaces. Normal wear as well as normal
maintenance are not subject to the guarantee provided by CineVERSUM either.

1.3 Projector Packaging
Way of Packaging
The projector is packed in a carton box. To provide protection during transportation, the projector is surrounded with
foam. The package is secured with banding and fastening clips.
To unpack
a) Pull off the adhesive tape or cut the adhesive tape but take care not to insert the knife too deep otherwise the
projector can be damaged.
b) Take the projector out of its shipping carton, remove the foam rubber and place it on a table.

2.0 SAFETY PRECAUTION
2.1 Important information
Lead-free regulation
This product has a High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp that contains a small amount of mercury. It also contains
lead in some components.
Disposal of these materials may be regulated in your community due to environmental considerations. For disposal
or recycling information please contact your local authorities, or the Electronics Industries Alliance: http://
www.eiae.org.
About burning-in of the D-ILA device
Do not allow the same still picture to be projected for a long time or an abnormally bright video picture to be pro-
jected. Do not project video images with high-intensity or high contrast on a screen. The video image could be burnt
into the D-ILA device.
Use special care when projecting video games or computer program images. There is no problem with ordinary
video-cassette playback images.
About the installation place
Do not install the projector in a place that cannot support its weight securely.
If the installation place is not sturdy enough, the projector could fall or overturn, possibly causing personal injury.
2.2 Important safeguards
Electrical energy can perform many useful functions. This unit has been engineered and manufactured to assure
your personal safety. But IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR FIRE HAZ-
ARD. In order not to defeat the safeguards incorporated into this product, observe the following basic rules for its
installation, use and service.
Please read these Important Safeguards carefully before use.
C AUTION :
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove cover. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. This pro-
jector is equipped with a 3-blade grounding type plug to satisfy FCC rule. If you are unable to insert the plug into
the outlet, contact your electrician.
W ARNING :
To prevent fire or shock hazards, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. This apparatus must be
earthed.
The power input is auto-ranging from 100 to 240 VAC.
•All the safety and operating instructions should
be read before the product is operated.
•All warnings on the product and in the operating
instructions should be adhered to.
• All operating instructions should be followed.
•Place the projector near a wall outlet where the
plug can be easily unplugged.
•Unplug this product from the wall outlet before
cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol
cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
•Do not use attachments not recommended by the
product manufacturer as they may be hazardous.
•Do not use this product near water. Do not use
immediately after moving from a low temperature
to high temperature, as this causes condensa-
tion, which may result in fire, electric shock, or
other hazards.
•Do not place this product on an unstable cart,
stand, or table. The product may fall, causing
serious injury to a child or adult, and serious
damage to the product. The product should be
mounted according to the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions, and should use a mount recommended by
the manufacturer.
•When the product is used on a cart, care should
be taken to avoid quick stops, excessive force,
and uneven surfaces which may cause the prod-
uct and cart to overturn, damaging equipment or
causing possible injury to the operator.
•Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided
for ventilation. These ensure reliable operation of
the product and protect it from overheating.
These openings must not be blocked or covered.

(The openings should never be blocked by plac-
ing the product on bed, sofa, rug, or similar sur-
face. It should not be placed in a built-in
installation such as a bookcase or rack unless
proper ventilation is provided and the manufac-
turer’s instructions have been adhered to.) For
proper ventilation, separate the product from
other equipment, which may prevent ventilation
and keep a distance of more than 11-7/8" (300
mm).
•This product should be operated only with the
type of power source indicated on the label. If you
are not sure of the type of power supply to your
home, consult your product dealer or local power
company.
•This product is equipped with a three-wire plug.
This plug will fit only into a grounded power out-
let. If you are unable to insert the plug into the
outlet, contact your electrician to install the
proper outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of
the grounded plug.
•Power-supply cords should be routed so that they
are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items
placed upon or against them. Pay particular
attention to cords at doors, plugs, receptacles,
and the point where they exit from the product.
•For added protection of this product during a
lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and
unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the
wall outlet and disconnect the cable system. This
will prevent damage to the product due to light-
ning and power line surges.
•Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or
convenience receptacles on other equipment as
this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
•Never push objects of any kind into this product
through openings as they may touch dangerous
voltage points or short out parts that could result
in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any
kind on the product.
•Do not attempt to service this product yourself as
opening or removing covers may expose you to
dangerous voltages and other hazards. Refer all
service to qualified service personnel.
•Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer
service to qualified service personnel under the
following conditions:
a) When the power supply cord or plug is dam-
aged.
b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen
on the product.
c) If the product has been exposed to rain or
water.
d) If the product does not operate normally by fol-
lowing the operating instructions. Adjust only those
controls that are covered by the Operation Manual,
as an improper adjustment of controls may result in
damage and will often require extensive work by a
qualified technician to restore the product to normal
operation.
e) If the product has been dropped or damaged in
any way.
f) When the product exhibits a distinct change in
performance - this indicates a need for service.
•When replacement parts are required, be sure
the service technician has used replacement
parts specified by the manufacturer or with same
characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized
substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or
other hazards.
•Upon completion of any service or repairs to this
product, ask the service technician to perform
safety checks to determine that the product is in
proper operating condition.
•The product should be placed more than one foot
away from heat sources such as radiators, heat
registers, stoves, and other products (including
amplifiers) that produce heat.
•When connecting other products such as VCR’s,
and personal computers, you should turn off the
power of this product for protection against elec-
tric shock.
•Do not place combustible behind the cooling fan.
For example, cloth, paper, matches, aerosol cans
or gas lighters that present special hazards when
over heated.
•Do not look into the projection lens while the illu-
mination lamp is turned on. Exposure of your
eyes to the strong light can result in impaired eye-
sight.
•Do not look into the inside of this unit through
vents (ventilation holes), etc. Do not look at the
illumination lamp directly by opening the cabinet
while the illumination lamp is turned on. The illu-
mination lamp also contains ultraviolet rays and
the light is so powerful that your eyesight can be
impaired.
•Do not drop, hit, or damage the light-source lamp
(lamp unit) in any way. It may cause the light-
source lamp to break and lead to injuries. Do not
use a damaged light source lamp. If the light-
source lamp is broken, ask your dealer to repair
it. Fragments from a broken light-source lamp
may cause injuries.
•The light-source lamp used in this projector is a
high pressure mercury lamp. Be careful when
disposing of the light source lamp. If anything is
unclear, please consult your dealer.
•Do not ceiling-mount the projector to a place
which tends to vibrate; otherwise, the attaching
fixture of the projector could be broken by the
vibration, possibly causing it to fall or overturn,
which could lead to personal injury.
•Use only the accessory cord designed for this
product to prevent shock.
•The power supply voltage rating of this product is
AC120 V, AC100 V – AC240 V, the power cord
attached conforms to the following power supply
voltage. Use only the power cord designated by
our dealer to ensure Safety and EMC.
•When it is used by other power supply voltage,
power cable must be changed.
•Ensure that the power cable used for the projec-
tor is the correct type for the AC outlet in your
country. Consult your product dealer.

• Caution: Do not allow any unqualified person to install the unit. Be sure to ask your dealer to install the unit (e.g.
attaching it to the ceiling) since special technical knowledge and skills are required for installation. If installation
is performed by an unqualified person, it may cause personal injury or electrical shock.
2.3 REGIONAL SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Changes or modification not approved by CineVERSUM could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for Class B digital devices, pursuant to
Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference
in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not
installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does
cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off
and on, the user is encourage to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

3.1 Viewing Conditions
Brightness of the room
Avoid direct exposure of screen to direct sunlight and illumination. Block light using a curtain. Images can be well
projected by darkening the brightness of the room.
Do not view screen for prolonged hours.
Looking at the screen continually for a prolonged time will cause your eyes to get tired. Allow your eyes to rest at
intervals.
Do not use this unit when image flickers
This may cause your eyesight to deteriorate.
3.2 Environment of Use
• Do not use this unit in rooms with cigarette smoke or oily smoke. This may cause the unit to malfunc-
tion.
Mounting this unit to the ceiling
Check temperature around the unit. When a heater is in use, the ceiling may reach a temperature higher than antic-
ipated, hence leading to malfunction of the unit.
Installation Environment
This unit is a precision device. Do not install it at the following places. Doing so may cause fire or malfunction of the
unit.
• Where there is water, humidity or dust.
• Where the unit may be subjected to oily or cigarette smoke.
• On a soft surface such as carpet or cushion.
• Where the unit may be subjected to high temperature due to direct sunlight.
• When temperature is high or low.
Operation temperature range: +5°C to +35°C.
Storage temperature range: -10°C to +60°C.
Relative humidity range 20% to 80% (without condensation).
Precautions of Usage
This unit makes use of a light source lamp that may reach a high temperature during projection. Do not allow projec-
tion under the following conditions. Doing so may cause fire or malfunction of the unit.
• Projection with the unit laid on sides.
•Projection with the unit installed in an unreasonable angle. Avoid using this unit at an angle of more than 5° hori-
zontally and 25° vertically. Doing so may cause unevenness in the color or shorten the lamp life.
• Projection at a location that blocks the air inlets or exhaust vents.
• Projection at a place exposed to air blasts from an air conditioner.
3.3 Safety area around projector
Make sure the projector is located so that the air inlets and outlets for the cooling system are not obstructed.
Respect the minimum space required between the projector and an object next to the projector.

• Do not use a cover which may enclose the unit or block the air inlets/exhaust vents.
•Allow sufficient space around the projector. When this unit is enclosed in a space of dimensions as indicated
below, it is recommended to use an air-conditioner so that internal and external temperatures are the same.

3.5 Mounting the unit
When mounting of this unit is required, do so by removing the 4 feet and make use of the 4 screw holes (M8
nuts) at the bottom of this unit. Allow sufficient space around the air inlets to avoid blocking them

Precautions for Ceiling-mount
•To ceiling-mount this unit, special expertise and techniques are necessary.
Be sure to ask your dealer or specialist to perform mounting.
• Do not mount at places that may be subjected to vibration and shock.
•Depth of the screw holes (screw length) is 30 mm. Use screws shorter than
30 mm but longer than 19 mm. Otherwise, the screws may damage the
internal parts of the projector and cause malfunction.
•Install at a safe place in case this unit or a part of it may drop. If the light-
source lamp is broken, small pieces of glass from the mesh of the filter may
appear outside the unit.
3.6 Projector and Screen Installation
The optimum image can be obtained when the centre of this projector’s lens and the screen are placed perpendicu-
lar to each other. Take note of the projection angle when placing them. Failing to do so may give rise to trapezoidal
distortion of the projected image.
An installation where the projector offset is set to 0% is an installation where the center
of the projection screen is on the same level with the center of the lens.
An installation where the projector offset is set to 50% is an installation where the end
of the projection screen is on the same level with the center of the lens.
3.7 Screen Size and Projection Distance
Adjust the distance from the lens to the screen to achieve your desired screen size.
BlackWing Short Throw lens
BlackWing ST uses a 1.4x power zoom lens for projection, so when expanded to the maximum it can project at 1.4
times the size of the minimum.
BlackWing Long Throw lens
BlackWing LT uses a 1.9x power zoom lens for projection, so when expanded to the maximum it can project at 1.9
times the size of the minimum.
Relationship Between Projection Distance and Projection Screen Size
This unit does not come with a function to correct trapezoidal distortion or adjust horizontal gradient. Make
sure that your installation does not exceed 60% shift (offset).

•The projection screen sizes and projecting distances in the table above are provided only as a guide. Please use
them as reference during installation.
• Use a projection image of 16:9 aspect ratio for setup adjustment.
3.8 Vertical lens shift
This unit comes with a optical vertical shift feature that enables upward/downward adjustment of the projection
screen position. Adjust accordingly depending on the installation conditions.
• The shift level is between 0 % and 60 %. The shift level is set to 50 % as the default.
• The position of the projection screen may be out of alignment due to the gear movement.
• When lens shift setting (adjustment) is completed, mount the lens shift cover to this unit.
Project the image on the screen
Tu rn On the projector to get a picture. (refer to “Turning on the power”, page 22) The use of a full screen internal
pattern is recommended to adjust the vertical shift.
Adjust the projection screen position
• Pull up the lens shift cover.
The Lens Shift Cover is located on the top of the projector. Pulling up the cover gives
access to the adjustment screw.

•Turn the shift adjustment screw using a screwdriver and adjust accordingly.
a) Turn clockwise: Screen shifts upwards.
b) Turn anti-clockwise: Screen shifts downwards.
Once the Lens Shift Cover is removed, turn the Shift screw to modify the screen offset
clockwise to shift upwards and anti-clockwise to shift downwards.
Mount the lens shift cover
Mount the lens shift cover to this unit when the shift set up is completed.
3.9 Using the Remote Control Unit (RCU)
The operable distance of the remote control unit is about 7m for direct reception and within 30 degree angle with
respect to the sensor. The remote control unit can be used by having the transmission signal reflected off a screen.
Pointing to reflective screen
Point the front of the RCU to the reflective screen surface.
Direct pointing to the IR sensors
Point the RCU to any of the remote sensors, located on the front and rear of the projector. The remote control can
be used up to 7 m from the projector.
Backlighting
When a button is pressed on the RCU, backlight is activated automatically. That allows the user to operate the RCU
in a dark room. Backlight is turned off automatically a few seconds after the last button is pressed.
As the effect of signals reflected from the RCU differ with the type of screen used, operable distance may
decrease.

4.1 General View
Front side
a) Lens Shift Cover
Remove this cover when using the Lens Shift feature for shifting the projecting position in the vertical direction.
Refer to “Vertical lens shift”, page 12 for details.
b) and b’) Air inlets (2 in front and 1 at bottom surface)
The air inlets absorb air to cool the interior of the unit. do not block or allow warm air to blow into them. This may
cause the unit to malfunction.
c) Remote sensor (Front)
When operating with the remote control, aim it towards the sensor.
A remote sensor is also located on the rear of the unit.
d) Power zoom lens
BlackWing ST : 1.4x power zoom lens.
BlackWing LT : 1.9x power zoom lens.
e) Lens Cap
Fit the cap on the lens when this unit is not in use to prevent the lens from becoming dirty.
Rear side
a) [SERVICE] Terminal
This terminal is intended for servicing purposes. Do not use it. Using it may give rise to error and malfunction of
the unit.
b) 12V SCREEN TRIGGER Terminal
This terminal is used for controlling the SCREEN TRIGGER-compatible elevating screen.
An output at DC +12 V/100 mA (max.) is produced when the power is on. Consult a qualified technician for a con-
nection with the screen.

When operating with the remote control, aim it towards the sensor. A remote sensor is also located at the front of
the unit.
d) AC Power Input Terminal
This is the AC power input terminal. Connect the supplied cord to this terminal.
e) [RS-232C] Terminal (D-sub 9 Pin)
This is the RS-232C interface-specific terminal. This unit can be controlled by a computer connected externally.
(refer to “RS-232C input”, page 38 for details on the RS-232C interface)
f) [DVI] Terminal (DVI-D 24 Pin).
This is an input terminal for video signals. Video signals that can be input are 1080/48p, 1080/50p and 1080/60p
signals. (refer to “DVI-D input”, page 40).
g) Exhaust Vent
Warm air is expelled through this vent to keep the system cool. Do not block the exhaust vents. This may cause
the unit to malfunction.
h) Control Panel
Please refer to “Digital control panel” for details on the control panel.
4.2 Digital control panel
• [Rx/Tx] Indicator
This indicator lights up during communication with the computer using the RS-232C terminal.
[Rx]:Lights up when this unit is receiving RS-232C data.
[Tx]:Lights up when this unit is sending RS-232C data.
• [MENU] Button
Press this button to display the menu. Pressing this button when the menu is displayed clears the menu.
• [EXIT] Button
Press this button to return to the previous hierarchical menu (for example, to return from submenu to main
menu). Pressing this button when the main menu is displayed clears the menu. (refer to “ADJUSTMENTS AND
SETTINGS”, page 24)
•[ZOOM T/W] Button
Press this button to change the size of the projected image.
• [FOCUS +/-] Button
Press this button to adjust focus of the projected image.
• Cursor up/down/left/right Buttons
Use these buttons when adjusting the menu items.
• [ENTER] Button
Press this button to show the next hierarchical menu (for example, to enter submenu from main menu). It is also
used when ENTER is displayed against a selection item on the menu screen.
• [OPERATE ON] Button
When this unit is in the standby mode, pressing this button for more than 1 second will turn the unit on and
cause the [OPERATE] indicator to light up.
• [OPERATE OFF] Button
When this unit is operating (projecting), pressing this button for more than 1 second switches the unit to the cool
down mode, which will automatically switch to the standby mode after about 60 seconds.
The [OPERATE OFF] button will not work within approximately 1 minute after the light source has been turned
on. Start operation only after 1 minute’s time.
• [HIDE] Button
Use this button to temporarily clear the video image. Press again to resume.

a) [STAND BY] Indicator
Light on:When in the standby mode.
Blinking:When in the cool down mode.
b) [OPERATE] Indicator
Light on:When this unit is currently operating (projecting).
c) [LAMP] Button
Light on:
When the lamp needs to be replaced soon or immediately.
When the lamp cover is removed.
When the lamp does not light up and the unit is unable to project, or when the lamp goes off during projection.
d) [TEMP] Indicator
Light on:When the internal temperature of the unit is abnormally high.
Blinking:When the lamp needs to be replaced soon or immediately.
When an abnormality has occurred in this unit.
e) [FAN] Indicator
Light on:When the internal fan abnormally stopped running.
Blinking:When the lamp has reached the end of its life and it is time to replace the lamp.
When an abnormality has occurred in this unit.
f) [HIDE] Indicator
Light on:When the video image is temporarily cleared upon pressing the [HIDE] button.
Blinking:When an abnormality has occurred in this unit.
This unit displays operational states using different combination of indicators.

ABOUT COOL DOWN MODE
After projection, the heated lamp will go through a 60-second cool-down process known as the cool down mode.
This function is to prevent damage and deformation that heat from the heated lamp may cause to the internal com-
ponents of the projector. It also prevents lamp breakage and shortened lamp life.
The cool down mode is indicated by the blinking [STAND BY] Indicator. When in the cool down mode, the [OPERA-
TE ON] button will be disabled.
After the cool down process is completed, the unit will automatically switch to the standby mode.
CAUTION
When in the cool down mode, do not pull out the plug from the outlet. Also, do not block the air inlets/exhaust vents
by standing the projector on its end or laying it on its side.

a) Remote Control’s Signal Transmitter
b) [OPERATE ON] Button
When this unit is in the standby mode, pressing this button for
more than 1 second will turn the unit on and cause the [OPER-
ATE] indicator to light up.
c) [LIGHT] Button
Lights up illumination (light) of the remote control buttons for about
10 seconds.
d) [CHP] (Cross Hatch Pattern) Button
Press this button to adjust the focus. Pressing this button projects
a green cross hatch signal for adjustment. Press the [EXIT] button
to return to the original image.
e) [MENU] Button
Press this button to display the menu. Pressing this button when
the menu is displayed clears the menu.
f) Cursor up/down/left/right Buttons
Use these buttons when adjusting the menu items.
g) [PRESET] Button
Use this button to reset the values to factory settings when items
in the menu are selected.
h) [ZOOM T/W] Button
Press this button to change the size of the projected image.
i) [OPERATE OFF] Button
When this unit is operating (projecting), pressing this button for more than 1 second switches the unit to the cool
down mode, which will automatically switch to the standby mode after about 60 seconds. The [OPERATE OFF]
button will not work within approximately 1 minute after the light source has been turned on. Start operation only
after 1 minute’s time.
j) [TEST] Button
Press this when adjusting focus, screen size or picture quality. Press the button to switch to the test pattern image
for adjustment.
Alter the test pattern with the [TEST] button.
Press the [EXIT] button to return to the original image.
k) [EXIT] Button
Press this button to return to the previous hierarchical menu (for example, to return from submenu to main menu).
Pressing this button when the main menu is displayed clears the menu.
l) [ENTER] Button
Press this button to show the next hierarchical menu (for example, to enter submenu from main menu). It is also
used when ENTER is displayed against a selection item on the menu screen.
m) [HIDE] Button
Press this button to temporarily clear the video image. Press again to resume.
n) [FOCUS +/-] Button

Battery insertion in the Remote Control
4.5 Connections
Connecting a video source with the Master Two
The BlackWing must be connected to a compatible device that can deliver 1080p50 or 1080p60 signals to the DVI-
D input.
To get the best performances, it is recommended to use the Master Two (R9011030).
In this configuration, the projection system would accept up to twelve different multi-standard sources. Each source
is automatically de-interlaced and upscaled to the BlackWing’s native resolution using the latest technology in video
processing.
1. Push the cover tab with the fingernail a little backwards and
pull upwards the cover top.
Slide the cover forward to remove.
2. Push the battery body towards the spring and lift up to
remove.
Insert two AAA size batteries, making sure the polarities match
the + and - marks inside the battery compartment.
3. Insert the lower tab of the battery cover in the gap at the bot-
tom of the remote control, and press the cover until it clicks in
place.
CAUTION WHEN USING BATTERIES
Do not mix new and old batteries.
Do not mix different type of batteries as they are different in characteristics.
Insert batteries according to the +/- marks on the battery case.
Do not put batteries into fire or recharge them if they are not design to.
Remove the batteries if the remote control is not to be used for a prolonged period.
Use manganese batteries wherever possible, Do not use rechargeable batteries.

Connect the BlackWing to the Master Two with a HDMI to DVI-D Male cable.
Automation and control port : RS-232 input.
It is possible to control the BlackWing by connecting an automation system or a computer to the RS-232 port at the
rear of the projector.
Please request a connection cable from your distributor if needed.
Connect the BlackWing through the RS-232 port with an automation system or
computer.
Connecting the Power Cord
a) Before plugging in the Power Cord, ensure that all
devices have been connected.
b) Connect the power cord to the power input terminal of the
projector (located at the rear/bottom side)
c) Connect the earth wire to the earth terminal available in
the building, followed by inserting the main plug of the sup-
plied power cord into the wall outlet.
Make sure to use a good quality cable, especially when the distance between the different devices are
longer than 5 meters. If it is the case, the use of a split system or optical fiber cable is highly recommended.
