1.- SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Follow the warnings described in this manual with the symbols shown below.
DANGER
Warns of a risk, which could result in personal injury or material damage.
ATTENTION
Indicates that special attention should be paid to a specific point.
If you must handle the unit for its installation, start-up or maintenance, the following should
be taken into consideration:
Incorrect handling or installation of the unit may result in injury to personnel as
well as damage to unit. In particular, handling with voltage applied may result in
electric shock, which may cause death or serious injury to personnel. Defective
installation or maintenance may also lead to the risk of fire.
Carefully read the manual prior to connecting the unit. Follow all the installation
and maintenance instructions for the unit throughout its working life. In particular,
follow the installation standards indicated in the Low Voltage Directive and
additional technical instructions.
The installation, operation and maintenance of LV units must only be carried out by
authorised installers. LV regulations (Art. 22) specifically define the requirements
that authorised installers must meet.
If in order to install the unit, you must work in areas that have high-voltage (HV)
units installed, then the personnel handling units in this area must be authorised to
work in HV installations. See National Electric Code 55/2004 dated 18-06-2004,
which regulates the requirements and the operation of high-voltage installation and
maintenance companies.
2.- PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
2.1.- DESCRIPTION
Step and contact analyzer based on current injection during one network cycle. Provides up to 50
A to a maximum recommended earthing resistance of 10 ohms. Remote control via telephone and
Bluetooth communication. The unit's software is easily updated and customized.

2.2.- WHAT SHOULD IT BE USED FOR?
The Getest unit is designed to measure step and contact voltages that may arise in a transformer
substation, substation, etc. It also gives you the option of calculating the approximate earthing
resistance to be tested. .
2.3.- WHERE SHOULD IT BE USED?
The unit is intended to operate in transformer substations, substations and high-voltage lines.
2.4.- UNIT SAFETY
This device can generate voltages that are harmful or even fatal to the human body.
It has built-in protections that reduce the risk of electric shock to a minimum, but
even so, you should take the necessary safety measures.
This instrument can generate deadly voltages. It is essential that the operator takes
safety measures. In the event of risk or device failure, do not hesitate to cancel the
firing sequence.
Ensure that there are no people in the current injection area of influence.
Also ensure that nobody is handling the cables before starting the firing sequence.
The device weighs 45 kg. This weight may be harmful to the user if it is handled by
unqualified people or if it is lifted incorrectly. The instrument has two ergonomic
handles and we recommend it be carried by two people. The device also includes
two electrodes. These weigh 25 kg each. This weight may be harmful if it is not
lifted
If the firing sequence is accidentally started (by pushing the "START" button on the PDA), it may
be cancelled at any time by:
- Pushing the "STOP" button
- Switching the safety switch to the "disabled" position
- Cutting off the Bluetooth link (for example, by removing the PDA's battery or leaving
the coverage area)
- Flipping the circuit breaker switch
The circuit breaker switch and the safety switch are independent devices and they act directly on
the network power supply (switch) or on the output current (security switch). In this way, even in
an unlikely software or hardware failure, these two devices prevent current injection.
If the sequence is not cancelled, the MPC device fires a first shot of 25 V. If the resistance found
is higher than 110 Ω, a message warns the user, asking if he would like to continue or not. Bearing
in mind that the resistance of the human body in normal conditions is 1 kΩ, this warning is a basic
protection measure.
If the sequence continues, the new MPC will only inject current for 20 ms. According to the IEC
60479-1 standard, the maximum applied voltage should not cause ventricular fibrillation, even

when touching the conductive parts with the palm of your hand in humid conditions; but medial
assistance may be required.
3.- VERIFICATIONS ON RECEIVING
Check the following points when you receive the instrument:
a) The unit meets its order specifications.
b) The unit has not suffered any damage during transport.
c) Perform an external visual inspection of the unit prior to switching it on

If any problem is noticed upon reception, immediately contact the transport

3.1.- RECEPTION PROTOCOL
Make sure that the unit has not been damaged during transport.
Check that the unit received matches the order and that its electrical features are suitable
for the grid where it is to be connected.
Check the shipping documentation. The dispatch note number must coincide with the
number marked on the outer part of the unit.
Perform an external and internal visual inspection of the unit prior to switching it on.
Check that all the unit's items on the packing list are present.

If any problem is noticed upon reception, immediately contact the transport
company and/or CIRCUTOR's after-sales services.
3.2.- TRANSPORT, LOADING AND UNLOADING, HANDLING AND STORAGE
To move the unit a short distance, the unit's floor support profiles facilitate handling with a pallet
jack or forklift.
Transport with pallet jack
When unloading and moving the unit, use a forklift with forks long enough to support the entire
length of the base. Otherwise, the forks should be long enough to support at least ¾ of said depth.
The centre of gravity of some units may be found at a considerable height.
Therefore, when handling with a forklift, it is recommended that the unit be
securely fastened and that no abrupt operations are made. The unit should not
be lifted more than 20 cm off the ground.
The transport, loading and unloading and handling of the unit must be carried
out with proper precautions and using the proper manual or mechanical tools
to prevent damage to the unit.
If the unit is not to be immediately installed, it must be stored at a location
with a firm and level floor, and the storage conditions listed in the technical
features section must be observed. In this case, it is recommended that the unit
be stored with its original protective packaging

The forks must be flat and supported firmly by the base. The cabinet must be raised by placing the
forks underneath the profile that supports the unit.

3.3.- STORAGE
The unit should be stored according to the following recommendations:
- Avoid placing it on uneven surfaces.
- Do not store it in outdoor areas, humid areas or areas exposed to splashing water.
- Avoid hot spots (maximum temperature: 45 ºC)
- Avoid saline and corrosive environments.
- Avoid storing the unit in areas where a lot of dust is generated or where the risk of
chemical or other types of contamination is present.
- Do not place any weight on top of the unit cabinets.

You need a low-impedance power supply line to get maximum performance, given

EMC Compliance
The device complies with EU directives LVD 2006/95/EC and EMC 89/336/EEC.
Due to the nature of the device, an injection of several amps will cause some disturbances in the
power supply lines, but the EMC directive permits these disturbances in these cases, in which the
phenomenon is inherent to the nature of the device.
Furthermore, depending on the quality of the power supply lines, the power supply voltage may
drop to 20% for 20 ms, so we recommend disconnecting all units that are sensitive to these line
variations before taking measurements

6.- UNIT INSTALLATION
This manual contains information and warnings that the user must adhere to in order to guarantee
the safe operation of the reconnecting device, maintaining it in a good state with regards to safety.
The unit should not be switched on until it has been mounted in its final location in the electric
cabinet.
If the unit is used in a manner other than that specified by the manufacturer, its
protection elements may be compromised.
When it is likely that the unit has lost its safety protection (signs of visible damage), it should be
disconnected from the auxiliary power supply. In this case, contact a qualified technical service
representative.
6.1.- INSTALLATION
The Getest may be powered directly from the mains (230 Vac and 50-60 Hz) or from a single-
phase generator set. The required power of the generator set will depend on the value of the circuit
loop resistance. This means that the bigger the loop resistance (test earthing plus auxiliary
earthing), the more power the generator set must have in order to inject the current required by the
user.
The line protection circuit breaker device must be, at least, 50 A for B-curve circuit breakers, 30 A
for C-curves and 16 A for D-curves, according to the EN60898 standard. If using devices with
lower capacity, the MPC will not be able to deliver the maximum power.
The cross-section and length of the connection cable may limit the MPC's capacity. Despite the
MPC not needing high-capacity cabling or connectors due to its current injection system, we
recommend that the cross-section of the power supply cables be as large as possible, to reduce
voltage losses that affect the device's maximum capacity. As an example, indicated below is the
maximum earth resistance to which 5, 10, 25 and 50 A may be injected, depending on the power
supply cable used:

When using a rolled extension cord to connect the unit to the mains, it is necessary to
unroll it completely to perform the test, as well as the current and voltage coils
supplied with the unit.

6.3.- START-UP
1.- Connect the measuring cables (2) and the current injection cables (3), depending on the
measurement you are going to take.
2.- Connect the power supply cable (7) to the MPC and to the mains socket. The device is
designed to operate with 230 Vac. 50/60 Hz. Please ensure that the voltage is correct before
plugging in the device. The device is protected from overvoltage with a F250 mA fuse
Note: Connect the device to a line or generator capable of supplying the required power:

3.- Flip the switch (6). The red LED will light up.
4.- Before connecting the telephone and unit via Bluetooth, we first have to link the Getest unit to
the telephone as follows:
Touch the following icon on the phone's main screen which will take you to settings
5.- Select the "Wireless connections" option. Activate Bluetooth and then click on the "Scan for
Devices" option. The telephone will detect the switched-on Getest unit with the name
ESD100v1.1.0. Click on that name and wait for the blue "Linked" message to appear.

7. Once the unit is linked, return to the Circutor Getest program. Select the linked unit by opening
the following window and then clicking on the "Connect" icon.
8.- Turn the safety switch (5) to the "Enabled" position.
9.- Select the testing mode (resistance, step or contact). If you select "resistance" you must
indicate the test current. In "step" and "contact" mode, you must indicate the maximum fault
current (value provided by the supply company) and the test current.
The step and contact voltage currents are calculated using the following formulas according to the
erratic voltage values:

If the erratic voltages are less than 10% of the voltage to be injected
If the erratic voltages are more than 10% of the voltage to be injected
Note: the erratic voltages are measured automatically, warning the user if they exceed 50 Vac
10.- Press "Fire" to begin the sequence. The sequence consists of:
a) Warning signal
b) Current output contactor connection
c) Erratic voltage measurement
d) Test at 25 Vac
e) Injection of, as a minimum, the required current
f) Increased voltage if the desired current is not reached
g) Injection of current with an 180º lag
h) Display of results
10.- Once the test is finished the results of the test will be displayed on the PDA's results screen.
11.- The results obtained may be saved and transferred to a computer with a USB cable.

7.- CONNECTION DIAGRAMS
Hardware earthing and auxiliary earthing connection
Connect one of the GETEST's injection terminals (IP) to the hardware earthing or the transformer
substation's or substation's protection earthing. Do not confuse the hardware earthing with that of
the service, although in some earthing systems they will be interconnected. Connect the other
GETEST injection terminal (IP) to the auxiliary earthing that we have previously created. As an
example, if you wish to inject 5 A you must have a sum of earthing connections that does not
exceed 110 Ωand for 50 A it must not exceed 10 Ω
Hardware earthing detail
You must find or build a good auxiliary earthing, as it will determine whether the unit
can inject the test current. Bearing in mind that the ohmic value of the hardware
earthing can not be reduced; try to reduce the auxiliary earthing resistance instead. If
you use spikes to make an auxiliary earthing, you can reduce the ohmic value if you
add more spikes in parallel, wet the ground itself, nail the spikes deeper into the
ground, etc.
There are several options for making an auxiliary earthing:
•Use a neutral earthing from the installation as long as it is not connected to the hardware
earthing.
•Nail several spikes into the ground with some distance between them.
•Use the earthing from other elements outside the transformer substation or substation

7.1.- STEP VOLTAGE
Connect the roll of 2-wire cable (yellow-green) to the Getest's voltage terminals (yellow-green).
Run the other end to the weights, one cable for each weight. Arrange the weights one metre apart
from each other, simulating the passage of a person. The step and contact measurements are taken

in places where dangerous voltages could appear if the installation suffers an earthing fault
(around the centre, within the centre, etc.).
The recommended distance between the hardware earthing and the auxiliary earthing

separation distances shown in this manual's connection diagrams are minimum
distances that must be increased based on the dimensions of the transformer
substation or substation.
Once the connections are made, select step voltage mode in the PDA and enter the maximum fault
current (value provided by the supply company).
7.2.- CONTACT VOLTAGE
To perform the contact test, the weights must be connected to each other using a safety jack cable
and also connected to one of the unit's voltage terminals. Connect the other voltage measurement
terminal to anything metallic in the transformer substation or substation (truss, door, casing, etc.)
that may be exposed to dangerous voltages in the event of an earthing fault.
As shown in the following image, the weights are connected with a "banana" safety jack cable.
