1. Productdescription
This adaptor enables you to convert acomputer USB port into an HDMI port
so that you can display thepicture from your computer on aTV, projector, etc.
Canbe used to mirror your screen’s image or double your work area (increase
Windows desktop). Audiosignals can also be transmitted using thesame
HDMI cable through theadaptor.
Easy to use, first install thedrivers and then plug theadaptor into one of your
computer’s USB 2.0 ports using thesupplied USB cable. Connectthe USB-
HDMI adaptor to your extra monitor using an HDMI cable (sold separately).
Supports resolutions of up to 1920×1080 pixels for theextra monitor.

2. Hardwarerequirements
• 1.2 GHz single core CPU (E.g. Celeron, Atom N270)
• 512 MB primary memory
• At least one vacant USB 2.0 port
• A monitor of SVGA (800×600 pixel) or higher standard
• Operating systems compatible with this software: Windows 7 (32/64-bit)/
Vista (32/64-bit) and XP.
• The DisplayLink software can be used with most computers such as
Asus EeePC notebooks, laptops and desktop computers with at least an
Atom N270 single-core processor. Canalso be used with dual-core or
quad-core processor.
• The performance of theUSB-HDMI adaptor depends on how much
processor capacity you have available and which operating system is used.
3. Installation
Note: DO NOT connect theadaptor to your computer until theadaptor’s driver
has been installed.
Operating systems compatible with this software: Windows 7 (32/64-bit)/
Vista (32/64-bit) and XP.
Note: It is very important that thegraphics card driver’s are updated before
beginning theinstallation. InstallService pack 3 on Windows XP if it is not
already installed.

3.1 Installation using Windows 7/Windows Vista
1. Insertthe supplied CD into your computer disc drive. Thedisc will start
automatically.
2. Clickon Run Setup.exe to start theinstallation.
Ifyou encounter a“User Account Control” dialogue box when attempting to
install thedriver, enter an administrator password or click on Allow/Yes to
continue theinstallation if thepassword is not necessary.

3. TheLicence agreement box will appear. Clickon I Accept to continue
thedriver installation.

4. Whenthe installation starts adialogue box will appear to inform you that
thescreen might flash or become completely black during theinstallation.
Pleasewait while Windows configures DisplayLink Core Software…
5. Thesoftware is configured automatically, wait until it has configured and
theinformation box disappears from thescreen.
6. Connectthe USB-HDMI adaptor to aUSB 2.0 port on your computer and
an HDMI cable to theextra monitor. TheDisplayLink Manager icon should
now appear in your taskbar.
7. Waituntil theDisplayLink software has configured if it thefirst time.
Yourscreen might flicker or blackout during theconfiguration process.

3.2 Installation using Windows XP
1. Insertthe supplied CD into your computer disc drive. Thedisc will start
automatically. Ifthe disc does not start automatically: Open theCD in
Explorer, and then click on Driver/Windows/Setup.exe.
2. TheLicence agreement box might appear. Ifit does, click on I Accept to
continue thedriver installation.

3. Waitwhilst thesoftware is installed and configured.
4. Aftera while amessage will appear on screen prompting you to restart your
computer – “You must restart…” Click on Yes to restart your computer.

4. Use
Connect theUSB-HDMI adaptor to avacant USB port on your computer.
TheDisplayLink Manager icon should now appear in your taskbar.
5. Setup
Note: These are general settings, they may differ somewhat depending on which
computer theUSB-HDMI adaptor is connected to. Forfull details, refer to
theinstruction manual on thesupplied CD.

5.1 Settings in Windows XP/Vista
1. Openthe DisplayLink Manager software by clicking on theicon in your taskbar.
2. Activatethe extra display monitor/screen by selecting one of thefollowing
options:
Extend To: Extend thescreen in relation to theexisting screen,
Right (to theright), Left (to theleft), Above (over) Below (under).
Extend: Extend theexisting screen to thenew screen.
Set as Main Monitor: Use themonitor connected to theUSB-HDMI adaptor
as theprimary monitor.
Notebook-monitor off: Turn off theprimary monitor.
Mirror: Show thesame picture on all connected screens.
Off: Turn off theDisplayLink program and theextra monitor.
The following options are for setting theresolution and
rotation of theHDMI-connected monitor
Screen Resolution: 640×480 to 1920×1080 pixels
Screen Rotation: Normal , Rotated Left, Rotated Right, Upside-Down

Advanced Settings: Open theWindows settings in thecontrol panel.

To adapt thescreen image to theformat of your TV set
Fit to TV: Enter your settings and click on Apply.

5.2 Settings in Windows 7
1. Startby checking if there are any updates to thesoftware by right-clicking
on DisplayLink Manager in thetaskbar.
2. Toset theresolution and orientation of theextra screen, click on
Advanced Settings.
3. Sethow theimage is to be displayed by using Windows Mobility Center ( + P).
6. Cleaning
Disconnect theUSB-HDMI adaptor from your computer and wipe it with asoft
cloth moistened with alittle mild detergent. Neveruse abrasive cleaning agents
or solvents.
7. Disposal
This product should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
If you are unsure how to proceed, contact your local authority.

8. Troubleshooting
Problem Solution
I’m having trouble with
theinstallation, my
computer keeps
“freezing”.
1. Deactivateyour antivirus program and turn off
any other unnecessary programs during
theinstallation.
2. Downloadthe latest graphics card drivers and
install them.
Thescreen connected to
theUSB-HDMI adaptor
is completely black.
1. Ifthe green LED on themonitor comes on
it might take awhile before thepicture is
displayed. Waitawhile.
2. Tryre-starting your computer.
3. Makesure your computer is not in standby mode.
4. Ifthe red/orange LED on your monitor comes on,
theconnection cables need checking.
Ifthe screen is still black: Remove thesoftware,
disconnect theUSB-HDMI adaptor, reinstall
thesoftware and try again.
5. Ifthe extra monitor is aTV, check that theTV set
is set to thecorrect channel/input source.
Referto theTV set’s instruction manual.
Themonitor connected
to theUSB-HDMI
adaptor flashes.
Thisproblem is usually caused by theupdate
frequency setting being too low.
In Mirror mode, increase theupdate frequency of
theprimary monitor.
In Extend mode, increase theupdate frequency of
thesecondary monitor.

Problem Solution
WhenI play aMPEG file
using Windows Media
Player in Extended mode,
thepicture becomes
distorted when I switch
to full screen display.
Ifyou are using Windows XP with SP1 or SP2,
you can solve theproblem by installing SP3.
Thedesktop screen
display of thesecondary
monitor has ablack
border when in
Extend mode.
Thisoccurs if theresolution of thesecondary
monitor is higher than that of theprimary monitor.
Setthe same resolution for both monitors.
Thereis no sound
from theTV set when
theUSB-HDMI adaptor
is connected.
Make sure that your computer is set to thecorrect
sound output. Enterthe Audio Devices settings on
your control panel. Makesure that theUSB HDMI
Adapter is chosen as thedefault audio device,
otherwise right-click on it and then select Use as
default device.

Problem Solution
WhenI play video in full
screen mode, thepicture
becomes erratic.
Try this:
• Reduce theresolution to 640×480 or
800×600 pixels.
• Use theUSB-HDMI adaptor in Extend mode.
• Shut off any unnecessary functions which
require alot of processor capacity.
If you still have apoor picture, try these steps:
• Certain media players require DirectX hardware
support in order to work well, try using another
media player that requires less DirectX hard-
ware support.
• Drag themedia player over to thesecondary
monitor and turn themedia player off.
Restartthe media player – it should now open
on thesecondary monitor. Tryplaying
themedia file again.
• Try reducing thehardware acceleration of
theprimary monitor (NOT thesecondary monitor)
to level 1, 2 or 3 and then restart themedia
player. Setthe hardware acceleration like this:
Right-click on thedesktop and then choose
Properties > Settings > Advanced >
Troubleshoot. Somemedia players use this
setting even if theplayback occurs on another
monitor.
