Safety
General safety instructions
• The winch is designed for intermittent use only and should not be under constant load.
• The winch is not designed for commercial use and themanufacturer does not
guarantee that it is suited for that purpose.
• The winch is not intended for lifting.
Safety instructions specific to this product
WARNING:
• Do not use thewinch for lifting loads. Thewinch must never be used for lifting or
moving people.
• Do not use thewinch cable for towing vehicles, this can overload thecable and
thewinch’s gearbox.
• Do not exceed thewinch’s ratedload.
• Do not use thewinch under heavy load for along time. Itis intended for intermittent
use only and must not be under constant load. Ifthemotor becomes very hot,
stop thewinch and let it cool for afew minutes. Neveroperate thewinchfor
longer than 1 minute at atime on maximum or near-maximum load.
• Make sure that there are always 5 turns of winch cable left on thedrum.
• Avoid winching at extreme angles as this can result in thecable spooling up on just
one side of thedrum. Thiscan lead to thecable tangling, resulting in damage to
both thecable andwinch.
• Make sure that thevoltage is not less than 12 V to get themaximum pulling power.
Thewinch has maximum pulling force when one layer of cable is woundon
the drum. Thegreater thenumber of layers wound round thedrum, thelesser
the pulling force.
• Never wind thewinch cable directly round theobject to be winched, it could
damage thecable. Usesome kind of strap/sling.
• Attach thewinch securely to avehicle or fixed object before operating it.
Theanchor point must be strong enough to bear thewinch’s maximum load.
• Winch slowly at first, until thecable is taut. Stopand check that all thejoints are
secure. Makesure that thehook is securely connected.
• It is agood idea to lay aheavy blanket or jacket over thecable near thehook when
winching heavy loads. Theweight of theblanket will dampen any recoil in thecable
and prevent it whipping around if it should break.

• Never stand close to thewinch drum when thewinch is underload.
Keepat adistance of at least 1.5m.
• Never step over or crawl under thecable when thewinch is underload.
• When using thewinch to move objects, thevehicle should be in neutral gear with
thehandbrake on and its wheels chocked. Thevehicle’s engine should be running
when thewinch is in use. Ifyou use thewinch for along time with theengine
switched off, thebattery could go flat making it difficult to start thevehicle again.
• Never put thewinch in neutral when it is underload.
• When you have finished winching, disconnect theload. Donot leave thecable
under tension after you have finished winching.
• Always maintain asafe distance from thecable, hook anddrum.
• Inspect thecable and other equipment regularly. Akinked or frayed winch cable
should be replaced immediately. Useonly approved spares. Wearthick leather gloves
when handling thewinch cable. Donot let thecable slide through your fingers.
• Do not touch thewinch, thetaut cable or thehook when thewinch is in operation.
Neverhold thehook with your finger. Yourfinger can be pulled out if it gets caught
in thehook.
• After using thewinch, keep thecable taut when winding it back onto thedrum.
Makesure that thecable is wound evenly onto thedrum.
• Do not use thewinch whilst under theinfluence of drugs, alcohol or medicine.
Stayalert whilst using thewinch.
• Always wear suitable protective clothing such as non-slip safety shoes,
ear defenders, gloves, etc.
• Do not modify or weld thewinch.
• Service thewinch regularly. Regularly check that all nuts and bolts aretight.
• Never connect thewinch to voltages of 110 V or 230 V as it can short-circuit or
give you anelectric shock.
• The winch must not be immersed inwater.
• The winch must never be used if it or any of its accessories is damaged in anyway.

Mounting instructions
In order for thewinch to be used correctly it is important that it is correctly mounted.
Chooseanappropriate place to mount thewinch. Itshould be strong enough to
support themaximum load of thewinch. Readyour vehicle’s handbook to find out if
there is arecommended place to mount thewinch.
1. Attach thehook to thecable and fasten theclevis pin with thesplitpin.
2. Plan how you are going to route your electrical cables so that they are best protected.
Iftheinsulation on theelectrical cables is damaged, thebattery could short-circuit
and cause afire or explosion.
3. Place thecontactor (1) close to thebattery and as protected as possible from
moisture and dirt. Makesure that its connections are far enough awayfrom
the chassis or other metal parts, and make sure that no tools or other loose
objects can come into contact with theterminals of thecontactor or battery.
4. Place thecontrol switch (2) where it can easily be reached and is not in theway
of any other controls. Ifit is placed on thehandlebars, make sure that thecontrol
switch or cable does not stop thehandlebars from turning fully.
5. Make sure NOT to run thecables over sharp edges, moving parts, hot parts or
where they can be crushed or worn. Tidyloose cables together with cable ties or
electrical tape.
Wiring instructions
1. The red cable from thecontrol switch (2) should be connected to thevehicle
ignition switch. Thecable should only be “live” when theignition ison.
2. The other two cables from thecontrol switch (2) should be connected to
the corresponding cables from thecontactor (1).
3. The positive (+) and negative (–) terminals of thebattery should be connected as in
thediagram. Theconnections are coded black for negative and red for positive.
4. It can be difficult to know thepolarity of thewinch, so you will just have to experiment.
Connect thewinch to theouter terminals on thecontactor and test thewinch.
Checkthat therotation of thewinch corresponds to the(IN/OUT) labelled on
the control switch (2). Swapthecables over if themotor goes thewrongway.

Operating instructions
NOTE:
• Stay safe – wear gloves when handling thewinchcable.
• Make sure that there are always 5 turns of winch cable left on thedrum.
• NEVER disengage theclutch when thewinch is operating or thecable is under load.
NEVER force theclutch into any position. Firstrelease thetension on thecable so
it is not underload.
Before initial use
In order to get thelongest service life from your winch cable, it should be primed for
use by first being spooled out until only 5 turns remain on thedrum and then winched
back in under aload of 200 kg. Makesure that thecable winds evenly onto thedrum.
A tightly packed and evenly wound cable prevents lower layers of cable on thedrum
from being crushed and deformed.
If thewinch is mounted onto avehicle, adequate load can be created by braking
the vehicle whilst winching thecable in. Stopwinching in thecable afterevery
3 metres and check that thecable is winding tightly and evenly around thedrum.
1. Disengage thewinch drum by turning thefreespool/engaged knob (7)
anticlockwise to theFreespool position.
2. Spool out as much cable as is necessary. Alwayshold thered fabric
hook strap when pulling thewinchcable.
3. Attach thehook to theload securely, do not wrap thewinch cable
round theload – use suitable straps, slings or chains instead.
4. Make sure that there are at least 5 turns of cable left on thedrum.
5. Engage thewinch drum by turning thefreespool/engaged knob (7)
clockwise to theEngaged position. Pullon thecable to make sure
that thedrum is engaged.
6. Start winching in by pushing IN on thecontrol switch (2). Theswitch has areturn
spring and thewinch will stop when therocker on thecontrol switch is released.
Winchout by pushing OUT on thecontrol switch. Nevermove thefreespool/
engaged knob (7) when thecable is underload.
7. When you have finished winching, make sure that thecable is not under tension,
unfasten thecable from theload and winch it back onto thedrum. Ifpossible,
get someone to help operate thecontrol switch. Holdthefabric strap attached to
thehook and see that thecable is evenly distributed over thedrum.
Warning! Ifyou need to spool in thecable by hand, make sure that it is evenly distributed
and not over theedge of thewinch drum, as this can damage thewinch.

Useful tips
• If thewinch is only to be used for raising and lowering asnow plough blade,
it is advisable to fit ashorter winch cable to thedrum, thefull-length cable could
become damaged if only thesame part of it is used every time. Whenusing long
winch cables, it is advisable to winch out theentire length of thecableand
winch it back in again from time totime.
• Pulling with adouble cable (line) and apulley block halves theload on thewinch.

• Never try to turn thefreespool/engaged knob when thecable is under load –
make sure that thecable is slackfirst.
Care and maintenance
• Ensure that all mounting bolts are properly tightened.
• Repairs should only be carried out by aqualified tradesman.
• The gearbox is factory lubricated for life. Further lubrication of thegearbox is
not necessary.
• Inspect thebattery leads regularly. Theleads should be cleanand
the connections tight.
• Inspect thecable before and after every operation of thewinch.
Replace theline if it is damaged.
Replacing thewinchcable
1. Disengage thewinch drum (set to freespool).
2. Spool out theold cable and remove thefastening screw.
3. Insert theend of thenew cable into thehole. Makesure that it is inserted correctly
bearing in mind thedirection of thedrum rotation.
4. Tighten thefastening screw.
5. Winch thecable onto thedrum.
Make sure that thecable winds evenly onto thedrum
Check regularly to make sure that thecable is wound evenly on thedrum.
1. Spool out thecable until 5 turns remain on thedrum and then winch it back in
under aload of about 200kg.
2. Steer thecable onto thedrum to ensure that it is evenly and tightly wound.
