All about batteries and the battery module
Loc ing the battery unit on to the processor
It is possible to lock the battery module (including the LiteWear option) on to the
processor. To do this open the accessory socket co er. The lock is situated below
the accessories socket. Push the lock to the left using a small screwdri er.
Loc ing the battery cover on to the battery holder
To pre ent children from remo ing the battery co er, it is
possible to lock it on to the holder. To do this use a
small screwdri er to turn the lock in a clockwise direction
until it is in a horizontal position (from 12 o’clock to 3
o’clock).
To unlock it, do the re erse but be careful not to o erturn the lock.
To detach the battery module
Gently twist the battery module to your left and the
processing unit to your right until the two parts separate.
To attach the battery module
Hold the battery module and the processing unit so they
touch. The battery module should face to the left and the processing unit to the
right of the final position. Twist the battery module and the processing unit until the
two parts fit into place.
Low batteries
To change the disposable batteries
Make sure the battery co er is not locked on (see abo e). Pull the battery co er
down. Remo e the batteries using fingers or the coil magnet and replace carefully.
To charge the rechargeable battery module
Remo e the battery module (see abo e). Place rechargeable module in the charger
at a slight angle and then rotate clockwise until it is aligned with the arrow indicator.
Batteries take four hours to recharge. A steady green light indicates that the battery
is fully charged.
Continuous flashing orange light means that the battery is
empty so you need to replace the batteries or recharge it.

Simple User Interface You are able to switch on/off, change the program and
select the telecoil without using the Remote Assistant
Ad anced User Interface You are able to switch on/off, change the program and
select the telecoil. In addition you can adjust either the
olume or microphone sensiti ity without using the
Remote Assistant.
Turn on
On the processor, press and hold down the lower button for at
least one second. Green lights will flash on the processor when it
turns on. The number of green flashes indicates the program
number (1-4).
Turn off
To turn it off, press and hold both the upper and the lower button
together for at least one second until you see a steady orange
light.
Change program When the processor is on, push the lower button and hold. Each
time you press it, it will go up to the next program. The number
of the program is indicated by the number of green flashes.
Change sensiti ity
or olume
If you ha e Ad anced User Interfac
e, you can adjust sensiti ity or
olume by pressing the upper button to increase and the lower
button to decrease. There will be a flash of green as you change
it.
Switch to Telecoil
Press the upper button. A single long green flash confirms that
the telecoil is acti ated. To turn it off, press the upper button
again, the same green flash will appear.
It is possible to ha e the processor programmed so the telecoil
works automatically. You can’t use the telecoil while using an
accessory.
Button lock feature

children who may
‘accidentally’
change the
settings.
To lock the buttons, briefly press both the upper and lower
buttons at the same time. A flash of orange followed by a green
flash will confirm this. It the buttons are locked, there will be an
orange flash if you try to press any of them. To remo e the
button lock, briefly press both the upper and lower buttons at the
same time. Another orange and then green flash will confirm this.

Using the Remote Assistant:
You will need to turn the processor itself on:
Now you need to use the Remote Assistant
The processor and the Remote Assistant need to be within two metres of
each other. You do not need to point the assistant at the processor.
Turn on the
processor
On the processor, press and hold down the lower button
for at least one second. Green lights will flash on the
processor when it turns on. The number of green flashes
indicates the program number (1-4).
Turning the
Remote
Assistant on
and off
Press and hold down the Cochlear key
for a couple of
seconds. The screen will light up. To turn it off, press
and hold down the Cochlear key until the screen turns
off.
You will see a steady blue light on the Remote
Assistant when the assistant and the processor are
communicating with each other.
Flashing blue light means there is no
communication. Check the processor is on and near
enough to the assistant.
Checking the
battery
When the scr
een lights up there will be an icon indicating
the le el of battery charge of the Remote Assistant. See
below for charging.
Change
program
The program currently
selected
is displayed on the
screen. These may be displayed as ‘E ery day’, ‘Noise’
‘Focus’ or ‘Music’ or program numbers 1-4. To change
between these two labelling options, press and hold the
two upper soft keys.
The different programs are displayed on the screen.
Press the soft white key abo e or below the program you

want to select.

e
olume
Press the upper sil er edge key just abo e the Cochlear
key to turn the olume up. Press the lower sil er edge
key just below the Cochlear key to turn the olume
down.
The default olume is usually 10 and is indicated by a
small orange square on the screen (for unilateral users).
Change
sensiti ity
To increase sensiti ity press the sil er edge key to the
right of the Cochlear key. To decrease sensiti ity press
the sil er edge key to the left of the Cochlear key.
The default sensiti ity setting is usually 12 and is
indicated by a small orange square on the screen (for
unilateral users).
Switch to
Telecoil
Press the telecoil toggle on the side of the assistant
quickly. A black icon for telecoil will appear on the
screen. To switch off use another quick press on the
toggle button and the icon will disappear.
It is also possible to ha e automatic telecoil enabled by
the clinician. When this is enabled you can see a green
telecoil icon with the word ‘auto’ on the screen when the
telecoil is enabled to look for a telecoil. When it finds
one and switches the telecoil on this icon becomes black.
You can switch off the telecoil using a quick press on the
telecoil toggle button (as abo e).

when the
Remote Assistant is in your bag or pocket. To lock the
buttons, slide the keypad locker on the side of the
assistant downwards. To unlock it, slide the locker
upwards.

If the Cochlear key does not work or your Remote
Assistant display freezes, you can press the Hard
Reset button on the back of the Remote Assistant
to reset your assistant .
Attaching accessories
You can attach the following accessories to the processor using the
accessories socket:
•Lapel microphone
•Freedom Monitor Earphones
•Personal audio cable (for use with battery operated de ices)
•Bilateral personal audio cable
•Mains isolation cable (for use with mains operated de ices)
•FM cables
•Freedom Accessory Adaptor for use with Freedom Monitor
Earphones and other Freedom accessories.
-Carefully lift the accessory socket co er with a fingernail or small
screwdri er.
-Align the connector on the end of the cable or on the adaptor with
the socket.
-Gently push the connector into the socket.
-The processor will automatically detect that an accessory is being
used. When you ha e finished using the accessory, remo e the
cable.

Chec ing the Coil
You can check the coil by putting it on the back
of the Remote Assistant. Place the coil on the
area indicated. If it is not working, there will
be no display on the assistant. An animation
will display on the assistant if the coil is
recei ing sound signals, this is an indication
that the coil is transmitting but does not indicate the quality of the
signal.
Monitor earphones
In order to connect the monitor headphones, you will
need to use the Freedom Accessory Adaptor.
•Connect the Freedom Monitor Earphones to the
Freedom Accessory Adaptor.
•Lift the accessory socket co er of the processor and connect the
other end of the Freedom Accessory Adaptor to the
accessory socket.
•If you wish to test an accessory, connect it into the
Freedom Monitor Earphones.
