Thisdocument shall provide thedetaildescription forcustomers ofComAp paralleling controllers, namelyfor
IGS-NTline members (controllers named in the following bullets) how to connectthe controllerand coherent
systems, to complywith VDE-AR-N-4105 requirements, namelywith the requirement forSingle fault
tolerance.
Thismanualisdedicated forfollowing ComAp controllers:
·IG-NT-BB
·IG-NTC-BB
·IS-NT-BB
·IS-NTC-BB
·IM-NT-BB
·IM-NTC-BB
·AIO-NT-BB
·AIO-NTC-BB
and allthese controllers are generallynamed asa “controller” in thisdocument.
Hint:
On allthe schemesshown below,it isassumed, that:
·Allbinaryoutputsare activated aslow side switches, it meansin active state the BOprovidesminus
pole ofthe controllerpowersupply.
·Allbinaryinputsare activewhen minuspoleofthe controllerpowersupplyisapplied toinput
terminal.
In case the logicon particularinstallation (site)isopposite (e.g. binaryoutputsarehigh side switchtype)the
corresponding change hasto betaken into account in the scheme aswell(interchangebetween L-and L+
terminals). Due to betterreadabilityoftheschemesthischange isnot shown.
In the text belowthereisreferred aboutcircuitbreakers, CB. These CBare meantasthe 2 redundant CB
which the normVDE-AR-N4105requires.Based on the target application – SPI, SPtM orMGCBthe
redundantbreakers are eitherGCB1 and GCB2in case ofSPIandSPtM application, orMGCB1and
MGCB2incase ofMGCBapplication. Due to thisvariabilitythe redundant breakers are referred asCBand
based on the target applicationthismeanseitherGCBorMGCB.
Single FaultTolerance requirement
VDE-AR-N 4105:2011-08requestsin point A.6 that centralNSprotection,integrated interface switchaswell
asthe triggercircuit consisting ofintegrated NSprotection andintegrated interface switch shall meet the
requirementsforsingle-fault tolerance.
Thisrequirement can not be achieved withanysinglecontrollermentioned abovetherefore 2 independent
devices(orunits) haveto be used instead ofjust one controller.
There are following possibilities:
1. ComAp controller(mentioned above)plusMainsPro controller(independent mainsprotection unit).

Breakers control according to VDE-AR-N 4105
In SPI applications, there are controlled 2 redundant GCBbreakers, based onthe following picture - Pict. 1.
Controllerbehavesasa NSprotection systemand incase ofnetworkfailureit tripsboth GCB1and GCB2.

In SPtMapplication thereare controlled 2 redundant GCBsand 1 MCB. The breakerredundancy
requirement oftheVDE-AR-N 4105iscreated with the GCBbreakers to ensure the gen-set isdisconnected
fromnetworkand anyremaining customersystemas4105 requires. Controllerbehavesasa NSprotection
systemand in caseofnetworkfailureit tripsboth GCB1 and GCB2.

In complexapplications, InteliMainsNTcontrollerhasto be used, MGCBapplication and the breaker
redundancyrequirement ofthe VDE-AR-N 4105iscreated with the MGCBbreakers to ensurethe standby
function ofthe solution. Controllerbehavesasa NSprotection systemand in case ofnetworkfailureit trips
both MGCB1 and MGCB2.

Option1 -use MainsProrelay
Foranyapplication shownaboveon the Pict. 1, or Pict. 2, or Pict. 3 the concept of2 independentunitscan
be used.
MainsPro swversion 1.4.1,hwversion: 1.2 isindependent ComAp protectionrelaywhich measuresnetwork
voltage and frequencyand tripsthesupervised CBin case networkvaluesarenot withinadjusted limits.
In thisconcept, 2 independent unitsare used -controllerand MainsProunit. The primarybreakeris
controlleddirectlyfromthe controller; the secondarybreaker(redundant)iscontrolled fromthe controller
through MainsPro unit.
Once controllerdetectsnetworkparameters out oflimits, it tripstheprimarycircuitbreakerand
simultaneouslygivesacommand to the MainsProunit to tripthe secondarycircuitbreaker.
Once the MainsProrelaydetectsnetworkparameters out oflimits, it tripsthe secondarycircuit breakerand
simultaneouslygivesasignalto controllerto trip the primarycircuit breaker.
Thisinterconnection ensures, that both breakers are tripped in everycase the networkparameters are outof
limitsand alsoboththecontrollerand MainsPro relayare tested everycasethenetworkparameters are out
oflimits. In case anyoftheunitsfail, the alarm: GCBfail orMGCBfail occurs (In case MainsPro relayfail,
controllerwilldetect redundant CBfaildue to non receiving changeon the redundant CBfeedback. In case
controllerfailsto open the primaryCB,itwilldetect the primaryCBfaildue to non receiving change onthe
primaryCBfeedbacksignal)
Wiring instructionsofthisconcept:
·SignalsforcontrolofprimaryCBhasto be configured to anyphysicalbinaryoutputs1 – 8 ofthe
controller.
·Signalsforcontrolofredundant CBhasto be configured toanyphysicalbinaryoutput9-16 (9-12
based on the controllerhardware)ofthecontrollerand connected toTripping input ofthe MainsPro
unit– BI1 Ext Trip.
·Signalsforboth primaryand secondaryCBfeedbackhasto be configured to anybinaryinput ofthe
controller.
·SignalfromMainsPro relay, signalizingthat the CBshallbe tripped hastobe connected to the
Controller, LBI: Ext MPTrip.
·Allthese signalsare alreadypreparedindefault archivesand thereisno need toconfigure anything
in relationto thisinterconnection.

Appendix
Parametersfor CircuitBreakers
To be able toreach requested timing asperVDE-AR-N-4105, CBhastobe able to open contactswithin
80msfromdeactivation. Ourconcept supposedto use100msreaction time forcontrolequipment reaction
and 80msistime dedicated forCBreaction.
You have to usea reliableCircuitBreakerwithknown reliabilityandthisCircuit breakerhasto have contacts
constructed in thewaywhich avoid false feedbackindicationincase ofanyfailure. Circuitbreakerhastobe
design forcompliancewith VDE-AR-N 4105.
Example could bee.g. SchneiderElectricNSX, NSand NWfamilyorABB TmaxorEmaxfamily,plusmany
others.
Commissioning
The safetyfunctions, created by:
·Combination ofcontrollerand MainsPro relay
hasto wired perinstructionsabove and shallbe tested priorconnection ofthe plant to the network.
Test ofMainsPro relay:
·ActivateBI: 1 Ext Trip on the MainsPro. MainsPro terminalnumber24 shallchange itsstate.
·Deactivate BI:1 Ext Trip on the MainsPro. MainsProterminalnumber24 shall change itsstate to
originalvalue.
Test ofMainsPro relayisdone byeveryclosing and opening ofthe CB2.In caseMainsPro relayfails,
controllerissuealarm: GCBfdb Sfailand tripsthe plant fromnetwork, type ofprotectionShutdown.
Safetyfunctionshasto be checked during commissioning and recordhasto be made about thistest.
Then, customerhasto establishperiod forperiodictesting.
