Installation
Location:
Gas detectors should be installed where a potential gas hazard is
most likely to be present. Consider the behaviour of the specific gas
as well as factors such as the influence of temperature and natural
or forced air currents.
Safety
• If the detector is used in a potentially gas hazardous
environment, the relevant regulations for explosion classified
equipment must be observed at all times.
• Never change a sensor in a potentially hazardous atmosphere
while the transmitter is still powered.

CAUTION! All electrical connections must be made
in accordance with local and national legislations,
applicable standards, and codes of practice.

Wiring for ST350 and ST650EX detectors:
Connections are available on connector CON2 which is accessible
on the main PCB.
NOTE! The detector should always be mounted
vertically.
5103106_ST350/ST450/ST650_Quick Installation Guide_M_EN_2019_B
Location requirements for a correct function of the detector:
• Area free from shocks or vibrations
• Protection against rain or flooding
• Ease of access for maintenance and calibration purposes
Limitations for catalytic sensors (ST650EX):
• Minimum 10% oxygen in the surrounding atmosphere
• Not suitable for non-stop gas exposure
• Not suitable in areas where compounds containing silicon,
halogens, lead, organometals, sulphur, or organophosphates are
present
Mounting:
Arrange the detector in a vertical position, with the sensor pointing
downwards, to avoid accumulation of moisture, dirt, dust, silicone,
and/or chemical residue.
NOTE! Do not install the detectors on open weather
deck.
NOTE! To increase the oxygen sensor lifetime, avoid
exposing it to air until commissioning.
RFI (EMI) / EMC protection:
The sensing head and signal cable should be protected against
external noise sources. Avoid running connection cables close
to interfering sources such as high power cables, inverters, radio
transmission lines, computer communication lines, or cables carrying
pulses of high current.
Earthing:
• Do not connect the cable shield at the detector. Cut it open
and isolate it from the gland (A).
• Always connect the detector’s external earth (B). In explosive
zones this is important for equipotential bonding.
CAUTION! All used and unused cable entries must be
sealed with a suitable certied sealing plug and cable
gland.
Commissioning
1. Remove the plastic cover from the detector.
2. Check that all electrical connections are correctly terminated.
3. Switch on the external power supply to the detector at the
control unit (which is in a safe area)
4. Use a digital multimeter to check the supply voltage at the 24 V
and 0 V terminals.
• Minimum supply voltage is 17.5V DC
• Maximum supply voltage is 24V DC
5. Do a bump test with the target gas to verify that the gas value
on the display is correct.
