Contacta HLD3
Hearing Loop Driver
1. Introduction
The HLD3 is a domestic driver that is connected to televisions and other audio devices.
2. Safety Precautions
Ensure that you only use the supplied power supply. Do not attempt to install
your own power supply or damage could occur.
Do not attempt to dismantle or modify any parts of the unit. No user serviceable
fuses or parts are included. Warranty may be void if you do so.

If using a room loop, install the loop wire around the room.
If using a loop pad, place the pad under the sofa/chair/cushion where the hearing aid
user will be sitting.
Connect the room loop or loop pad to the connector on the rear of HLD3 (A)
Connect the optical in cable from the rear of HLD3 (B) to the TV or if not available
connect using line in (C)
Plug in the power supply (D)
Power on the unit and make adjustments to volume and HF comp as necessary
If using a loop pad ask the hearing aid user to sit in the chair where the loop has been
installed and adjust the volume on the HLD3 driver until it is at the right level for them,
then advise them of the level/record.
5. Operation Guide

To power on HLD3 turn the volume knob clockwise until the power indicator lights up.
Switch the hearing aid to the T position.
Adjust the volume on the HLD3 to either (list levels) (The TV volume control will not
change the volume of HLD3).
Note: If using a loop pad you will need to sit in the chair where the pad is installed
to hear after an adjustment has been made.
Make final adjustments on the hearing aid.
When not in use turn the volume knob counter clockwise until it clicks to power off. Or
you can leave on all the time. When the TV is off the loop draws minimal power.
6. Maintenance Guide
To prolong the life of the product, the following procedures should be carried out by the
customer on a regular basis to keep the product at its optimal performance:
Ensure all connectors are firmly inserted into their sockets on a regular basis.
Do not stretch cables at the rear.

Clean amplifier and or microphone with a dry soft cloth or readily available cleansing
wipes.
Do not use solvent based cleaners.
Do not allow cleaning fluids to enter the amplifier or back ports/ vents of the
microphone.
7. Troubleshooting
Symptom

No Power detected
Power jack not plugged in or faulty
Check power jack is firmly plugged in
Plug fuse has blown
Replace fuse
Faulty power supply unit
Use alternative mains plug socket
Change the power supply unit
Faulty amplifier
If problem persists please seek
assistance from a Contacta engineer
Input light is not illuminated
Induction loop disconnected
Ensure loop is plugged in correctly. See
figure 1. A
Output light is not illuminated
Optical / line out disconnected
Ensure that either optical out or line out is
connected to the audio source and HLD3.

No audio is heard through the
induction loop
Induction loop disconnected
Check loop connection. See figure 1. A
Optical / line out disconnected
Check connection to audio source. See
figure 1. B / C
Volume is too low
Adjust the volume on HLD3 then on the
hearing aid
If using a loop pad, hearing aid user
is not seated above
Make sure the hearing aid user is seated
where the loop pad is located
Please seek assistance from a Contacta
engineer if unit is faulty
Interference
(buzzing / whistling / hissing)
is heard through induction loop
Unscreened or poorly earthed third
party equipment is being used in
close proximity
Incorrect power supply being used
Switch off any third party equipment to
identify the source of interference
Ensure that a Contacta supplied power
supply unit is being used
