3. General information
3.1. General information
Contracor abrasiveblast cabinet enclosestheblastingenvironment toprovideefÀcient
blast cleaningwhilemaintaininga clean surroundingwork area.
Production ratesof theblast cabinetsaredependent on sizeof nozzle, compressor
capacity,workingpressure,typeand sizeof abrasivemediaanddistancebetweenthenozzle
andthecleaningsurface.
Contracor ECO-seriessuction typeblast cabinetsconsist of twomodules:
1. Ruggedlybuilt weldedsteel cabinet enclosure.
2. Dust collector with highlyefÀcient fan andmanuallycleaned cartridge Àlter.
Anautomaticpulsecleaneddust collector isavailableasanoption.
3.2. Theory of operation
When theair supplyis on,and thecabinet doorsare closed, theblast cabinet is ready
for operation byactuatingthe foot pedal. Fullydepressingthe foot pedal causes air to Áow
through theblast gun.Air movingthrough thegun draws media intothe blast gun mixing
chamber. The media mixeswith the air and ispropelled out the nozzle.
After striking the object beingblasted, the blast media, along with Ànes, dust, and by-
products generated byblasting, fall through the mesh screen into the cabinet hopper. The
blast media metering valve is located on the cabinet hopper, for accurate adjustment of the
blast media/air mixture.
When the foot pedal is released, theblasting stops. The dust collector Àlter cartridge
is cleaned byopeninga ball valve, expanding compressed air at high velocityagainst the
inner surface of the cartridge.. The expandingair momentarilyreverses airÁow through the
cartridge to release dust accumulated on the outer surface.
The dust particles fall awayfrom the cartridge and into the hopper for removal. A
automatic pulsed air cleaned dust collector is available as an option. Herethe dust collector

4. Set-up, operation and shut-down
4.1. Installation and Set-up
4.1.1 Location
Select a location where compressed air, water and electrical service are available.
Allowfor full access to all doors and service areas and for efÀcient handlingof large parts.
4.1.2 Compressed air supply line
Connect compressed air supplyline with min. I.D. = 1/ 2” to the cabinet inlet. For
connection use a Áexible hose with same min. I.D. asthemain airline. Asmaller diameter

4.1.3 Grounding
Ground the cabinet to prevent static electricitybuild up. For groundingattach an
external grounded wire to the grounding lug on the cabinet skirt.
4.1.4 Electrical power connection
ATTENTION!
Be certain that all pipe Àttings and hose clamps are tight before using the
blast cabinet. Hose disconnection while under pressure could cause seri-
ous injury.
ATTENTION!
All electrical work must be carried out bya qualiÀed electrician according
to the national and local standards.
Awiringschematic is supplied with the cabinet. After wiringis completed, check the
motor rotation bymomentarilyturn switch on and off. The motor will slowlyturn. Check
the rotation of the motor fan through the slots in the motor housing. The fan should rotate
clockwise when viewed from the fan end to the motor.
ATTENTION!
Do not look into the reclaimer exhauster outlet while the exhauster is
turning. Injury to the eye or face could occur from objects being ejected
from the exhauster.
4.1.5 Cabinet static pressure
Cabinet static pressure must be set to match the cabinet dimensions. The pressure
inside the cabin is adjusted with the throttle valve which is located on the air & dust suction
pipe on the dust collector.
Trydifferent settings of the throttle valve whilst blasting until the cabin visibilityis
good when the exhaustingfan isswitched on.

4.1.6 Foot pedal
Position the foot pedal on theÁoor at thefront of the cabinet for easyaccessibility.
Blast cabinet is designed for one-person operation. Be sure you can quicklyremove your
foot from the pedal in an emergency.
4.2. Blasting operation
4.2.1 Media loading
With the exhauster off, add clean drymedia, bypouringit into the cabinet hopper
through the cabinet loadingdoor. Do not Àll past the cone on the reclaimer.
OverÀllingwill result in media carryover to the dust collector and possiblyblockage
in the conveyinghose. ReÀll onlyafter all media has been recovered from the cabinet. The
minimum amount of media to charge the system is as follows:
ECO-80S, ECO-100S, ECO-120SECO-140S -20kg
ECO-80SF, ECO-100SF, ECO-120SF, ECO-140SF-20kg
ECO-80SL, ECO-100SL, ECO-120SL, ECO-140SL-20kg
4.2.2 Media unloading
To emptythe cabinet of old media turn off the exhauster. There are two different ways
of unloadingmedia. The metering valve ismounted on a cover over a Áange underneath
the hopper. Place an emptycontainer underneath the meteringvalve before removingthe
1” screw on the bottom of the valve. The blast media should Áow out. If media doesn’t Áow,
it has caked. Open the cabinet door and stir media until it starts to Áow. If the blast media
is severelycaked, one can also remove the Áange cover to which the meteringvalve is
afÀxed. Loosen the screws securing the cover to the Áange, and remove. Media will Áow into
container.
4.2.3. Parts loading and unloading
Parts maybe loaded and unloaded through the front cabinet door. The door maybe
opened so far as to allow loadingfrom above, allowinguse of a travelling crane, thereby
increasing operator safety. Blasted parts must be free of oil, water, grease, or other
contaminants that will clog media or Àlters. Byclosing the door, be certain that the door is
sealed securelyor door interlock system will prevent blasting.

ATTENTION!
Always close cabinet and, dust collector doors before blasting. Keep all
doors closed during blasting.
Always wear blast gloves.
Avoid pointing the blast nozzle toward the view window.
Use the blow-off nozzle to blow media off parts before opening doors.
After blasting, keep doors closed and exhauster on until the cabinet is
clear of all airborne dust.
Stop blasting immediately if dust leaks are detected.
4.2.4. Blasting operation
Always wear rubber blastinggloves while operating the blast cabinet. Open the
compressed air supplyto the blast cabinet. On the initial start up check for air leaks. Turn
on/off switch tothe position “I” to switch on thelights and Àlter pulse cleaning(option).
Push button ONto switch on the exhauster. Insert hands through the holes in the front
door. Firmlygrasp theblast gun and step on the foot pedal. Blastingwill begin immediately.
Adjust blast pressure usingpilot regulator located on the control panel. Pressure gauge on
the control panel shows actual blast pressure value. Most effective blasting techniques are
smooth continuous strokes. The distance from the part affects size of blast pattern. Normal
practice places the nozzle approximately70 to 150mm from the surface of the part.
ATTENTION!
Shut down the cabinet immediately if dust dischargesfrom the collector.
Check that Àlters are correctly seated and not worn or damaged.
Prolonged breathing of anydust could result in seriouslung disease
or death. Short term ingestion of toxic dust such as lead, poses an
immediate danger to health. Toxicity and health risk vary with dust
generated byblasting. Identifyall material being removed byblasting, and
obtain a material safety data sheet for the media.
