Using the Menu Button ______________
We use the term “Select” to mean the following action:
1. Move the Menu button left or right to highlight the option that you want.
2. Press the Menu button to select the option.
Getting Started _____________________
Step 1: Set up software
1. Turn on your computer.
If you have Microsoft®Windows®XP or Windows 2000, you must log in as an
administrator in Windows before you can set up the software. For more information, refer
to your operating system’s online Help.
• Push the Menu button left or right to move between tracks, or push and hold the Menu
button to move within a track.
• Push the Menu button up or down to adjust the volume during playback.
DO NOT connect your player to your computer before setting up the software.

2. Insert the Installation CD into your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. Your CD should start
automatically. If it does not, follow the steps below:
i. Double-click the My Computer icon.
Alternatively, click Start →My Computer.
ii. Right-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive icon, and then click AutoPlay.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen and when prompted, restart your computer.
4. When your computer restarts, follow the product registration instructions on the screen.
5. When prompted, connect your player to your computer’s USB port using the supplied USB
cable. Do not press the buttons on your player while connecting it to your computer.
You will require an Internet connection to register your product.

Step 2: Turn on player
Your player comes preloaded with some music to get you started immediately.
1. Insert a AAA alkaline battery into your player.
2. Press and hold the Play/Pause button until your player turns on.
3. Connect your earphones and move the Menu button up and down to adjust the
volume.
4. When you turn on your player for the first time, the menu will be in English. To change the
language:
i. Press the Menu button. The main menu appears.
ii. Select the Settings option.
iii. Select the Language option, and then Select the language that you want.
5. After you have finished using your player, press and hold the Play/Pause button until
the Power off message disappears.

Step 3: Rip and copy music
Rip music from your CD collection to your player, or copy audio files (such as music you have
purchased online) from your computer.
To rip music from your CD collection
1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
Alternatively, click Start →My Computer.
2. Double-click the Creative Media Explorer icon.
3. Click the Rip Audio CDs icon.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Album information is automatically retrieved if you are connected to the Internet, and have
registered with a music information provider like CDDB®.
To copy audio or data files from your computer
1. Make sure your player is connected to your computer as shown on page 3.
2. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop. You will notice that your player is
recognized as a Removable Disk.
3. Double-click the Creative Media Explorer icon.
4. Click the Browse Data icon.
5. Copy files using the drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste method.
Step 4: Disconnect player
When disconnecting your player from your computer, always use the Windows Eject or
Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar. If not, your player may not function normally.
Follow these steps below to safely disconnect your player.
To safely disconnect your player in Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows Me
1. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Taskbar.

2. Select Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device, and disconnect your player when you
are prompted to do so.
To safely disconnect your player in Windows 98 SE
1. On your desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select Explore.
2. Right-click the Removable Disk icon and select the Eject option.
3. Make sure that this status diagram appears on the display for at least five seconds before
disconnecting your player.

Playing a track______________________
1. Press and hold the Play/Pause button until your player turns on.
2. Press the Menu button. The Options menu appears.
3. When you turn on your player for the first time, the display will be in English. To change
language:
i. Select the Settings option.
ii. Select the Language option, and then Select the language that you want.
4. Select the Music option.
5. Select a track. The track plays back automatically.
Locking your player _________________
Locking your player disables the functions of all buttons and the Menu button on your player.
Locking your player is useful when you do not want to accidentally activate functions on your
player.
1. Press the Menu button. The main menu appears.
2. Select the Lock option.
The lock icon appears at the top right corner of the display.
3. To unlock your player, press any button and Select the Unlock option.

Managing Music and Data ____________
Creative Media Explorer and Creative MediaSource™ are included with your player. Install and
try out both applications to decide which one is more suitable for your needs.
Creative Media Explorer
Use Creative Media Explorer if:
• you are new to digital music and want to transfer music from your CDs to your player
• you prefer to manage your player in the familiar “Windows Explorer” environment.
To start Creative Media Explorer, double-click the Creative Media Explorer icon under My
Computer or on the desktop.
For more information about using Creative Media Explorer, refer to its online Help.
Creative MediaSource
Use Creative MediaSource, a full-featured media organizer/player, if:
• you want to access additional features such as recording, automatic playlist generation and
audio format conversion
• you want to manage a music library on your computer.
To start Creative MediaSource, double-click the Creative MediaSource icon on your desktop.

FAQ _______________________________
Can I play DRM-protected WMA files on my player?
Yes. To transfer DRM-protected WMA files to your player, you can use Creative Media Explorer,
Creative MediaSource or Windows Media Player.
How do I maximize the number of songs on my player?
You can use the SmartFit feature in Creative Media Explorer to reduce the size of your files. The
sound quality of the songs may be reduced slightly.
How do I purchase music on the Internet?
You can legally buy music online from digital music stores. Music files that you purchase can be
stored on your computer, and be transferred later to your player.
How do I format my player?
You can format your player if your player gets corrupted and starts performing erratically. Before
starting, back up the files found on your player, as the files will be lost during formatting.
1. Connect your player to your computer’s USB port using the supplied USB cable.
2. Start Windows Explorer on your computer.
3. Click the Creative Media Explorer icon.
4. Click the Initialize button.
5. After the formatting is complete, make sure you stop your player before disconnecting it
from your computer. For instructions on disconnecting your player safely, see “Step 4:
Disconnect player” on page 5.

2. インストール CD を CD-ROM/DVD-ROM ドライブに挿入します。CD が自動的に起動します。
自動的に起動しない場合は、CD-ROM ドライブの自動挿入機能を有効にする必要がありま

ステップ 2: プレーヤーの電源投入
プレーヤーには、すぐに使えるようにサンプルミュージックがあらかじめロードされ
ています。
1. 単 4 型アルカリバッテリーを 1 個プレーヤーに挿入します。
2. プレーヤーの電源がオンになるまで [ 再生／一時停止 ] ボタンを押します。
3. ヘッドフォンを接続して、[ メニュー ] ボタンを上下に押して、音量を調整しま
す。
4. はじめてプレーヤーの電源をオンにした場合は、メニューが英語で表示されます。 言語

ステップ 3: 音楽のリッピングとコピー
CD コレクションの音楽をプレーヤーにリッピング、またはオーディオファイル（オン
ラインで購入した音楽など）をコンピュータからコピーします。
CD コレクションから音楽をリッピングするには
1. Windows のデスクトップにある [ マイ コンピュータ ] アイコンをダブルクリックしま
す。
または、[スタート] → [ マイ コンピュータ ] をクリックします。
2. [Creative メディアエクスプローラ ] アイコンをダブルクリックします。
3. [ オーディオ CD をリッピング ] アイコンをクリックします。
4. 画面の指示に従ってください。
CDDB®などのミュージックインフォメーションプロバイダに登録済みで、インターネッ
トに接続している場合、アルバム情報が自動的に取得されます。
オーディオファイルやデータファイルをコンピュータからコピーするには
1. 3 ページに示すように、プレーヤーがコンピュータに接続されていることを確認します。
2. Windows のデスクトップにある [ マイ コンピュータ ] アイコンをダブルクリックしま
す。 プレーヤーは、リムーバブルディスクとして認識されますのでご注意ください。
3. [Creative メディアエクスプローラ ] アイコンをダブルクリックします。
4. [ データの参照 ] アイコンをクリックします。
5. ドラッグ＆ドロップまたはコピー＆ペーストを使用して、ファイルをコピーします。
ステップ 4: プレーヤーの取り外し
プレーヤーをコンピュータから取り外すときは、必ず、Windows エクスプローラの [
取り出し ] またはタスクバーの [ ハードウェアの安全な取り外し ] アイコンを使用し
てください。 そうしないと、プレーヤーが正常に機能しなくなる恐れがあります。次
の手順に従って、プレーヤーを安全に取り外してください。
Windows XP、Windows 2000、Windows Me でプレーヤーを安全に取り外すには
1. タスクバーの [ ハードウェアの安全な取り外し ] アイコンをクリックします。

Windows 98 SE でプレーヤーを安全に取り外すには
