before installing air conditioning equipment. After complet-
ing the installation, make sure that the unit operates properly
during the startup operation. Instruct the customer on how to
operate and maintain the unit.
Inform customers that they should store this Operation Manual
with the Installation Manual for future reference.
Meanings of DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE
Symbols:
DANGER...........Indicates an imminently hazardous situ-
ation which, if not avoided, will result in
death or serious injury.
WARNING.........Indicates a potentially hazardous situa-
tion which, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.
CAUTION..........Indicates a potentially hazardous situa-
tion which, if not avoided, may result in
minor or moderate injury. It may also be
used to alert against unsafe practices.
NOTE ................Indicates situations that may result in
equipment or property-damage acci-
dents only.
DANGER
• Donotinstalltheunitinanareawhereammablema-
terials are present due to risk of explosion resulting in
serious injury or death.
• Anyabnormalitiesintheoperationoftheaircondition-
erorheatpumpsuchassmokeorrecouldresultin
severeinjuryordeath.Turnoffthepowerandcontact
yourdealerimmediately.
• Refrigerantgasmayproducetoxicgasifitcomein
contactwithre,suchasfromafan,heater,stove,
orcookingdevice.Exposuretothisgascouldcause
severe injury or death.
• Forrefrigerantleakage,consultyourdealer.
Refrigerantgasisheavierthanairandreplacesoxy-
gen.
Amassiveleakcouldleadtooxygendepletion,espe-
ciallyinbasements,andanasphyxiationhazardcould
occurleadingtoseriousinjuryordeath.
• Ifequipmentutilizingaburnerisusedinthesame
roomastheairconditionerorheatpump,thereisthe
dangerofoxygendeciencywhichcouldleadtoanas-
phyxiationhazardresultinginseriousinjuryordeath.

orpaintneartheunit.Flammablespraymaycausea

• Whenafuseblowsout,neverreplaceitwithoneof
incorrectampereratingsordifferentwires.Always
replaceanyblownfusewithafuseofthesamespeci-
cation.
• Neverremovethefanguardoftheunit.Afanrotatingat
high speed without the fan guard is very dangerous.
• Neverinspectorservicetheunitbyyourself.Contacta
qualiedservicepersontoperformthiswork.
• Turnoffallelectricalpowerbeforedoinganymainte-
nancetoavoidtheriskofseriouselectricshock;never
sprinkle or spill water or liquids on the unit. Do not
touchtheswitchwithwetngers.

• Placingaowervaseorothercontainerswithwateror
otherliquidsontheunitcouldcauseashockorreifa
spilloccurs.
• Donottouchtheairoutletorhorizontalbladeswhile
theswingapisinoperationbecausengerscouldget
caughtandinjured.
• Nevertouchtheinternalpartsofthecontroller.Donot
removethefrontpanelbecausesomepartsinsideare
dangeroustotouch.Tocheckandadjustinternalparts,
contactyourdealer.
• Be sure to ground the unit.
Donotgroundtheunittoautilitypipe,arrester,or
telephoneground.Incompletegroundingmaycause
electricalshock,orre.Ahighsurgecurrentfrom
lightningorothersourcesmaycausedamagetotheair
conditionerorheatpump.
• ThisequipmentcanbeinstalledwithaGround-Fault
CircuitInterrupter(GFCI).Althoughthisisarecognized
measureforadditionalprotection,withthegrounding
systeminNorthAmerica,adedicatedGFCIisnot
necessary.

CAUTION

operation.Alwayswaitforatleastveminutesbefore
turningoffthepower.Otherwise,waterleakagemay
occur.
• Theapplianceisnotintendedforusebyyoungchil-
drenorinrmpersonswithoutsupervision.
• Theremotecontrollershouldbekeptawayfromchil-
drensotheycannotplaywithit.
• Consultwiththeinstallationcontractorforcleaning.
• Incorrectcleaningoftheinsideoftheairconditioner
orheatpumpcouldmaketheplasticspartsbreakand
causewaterleakageorelectricshock.
• Donottouchtheairinletoraluminumnoftheaircon-
ditionerorheatpumpastheycancutandcauseinjury.
• Donotplaceobjectsindirectproximityoftheoutdoor
unit.Donotletleavesandotherdebrisaccumulate
aroundtheunit.Leavesareahotbedforsmallanimals
whichcanentertheunit.Onceinsidetheunit,animals
cancausetheunittomalfunction,andcausesmokeor
rewhentheymakecontactwithelectricalparts.
NOTE
• Neverpressthebuttonoftheremotecontrollerwith
ahard,pointedobject.Theremotecontrollermaybe
damaged.
• Neverpullortwisttheelectricwireoftheremotecon-
troller.Itmaycausetheunittomalfunction.
• Donotplaceappliancesthatproduceopenamesin
placesthatareexposedtotheairowoftheunitorun-
dertheindoorunit.Itmaycauseincompletecombus-
tionordeformationoftheunitduetotheheat.
• Donotexposethecontrollertodirectsunlight.The
LCDdisplaycanbecomediscoloredandmayfailto
display the data.
• Donotwipethecontrolleroperationpanelwithben-
zene,thinner,chemicaldustcloth,etc.Thepanelmay
getdiscoloredorthecoatingcanpeeloff.Ifitisheavily
dirty,soakaclothinwater-dilutedneutraldetergent,
squeezeitwellandwipethepanelclean.Thenwipeit
withanotherdrycloth.
• Dismantlingoftheunit,disposaloftherefrigerant,oil,
andadditionalparts,shouldbedoneinaccordance
withtherelevantlocal,state,andnationalregulations.
• Operatetheairconditionerorheatpumpinasuf-
cientlyventilatedareaandnotsurroundedbyobsta-
cles.Donotusetheairconditionerorheatpumpinthe
followingplaces.
a. Placeswithamistofmineraloil,suchascuttingoil.
b. Locationssuchascoastalareaswherethereisa
lot of salt in the air.
c. Locationssuchashotspringswherethereisalot
of sulfur in the air.
d. Locationssuchasfactorieswherethepowervolt-
age varies a lot.
e. Incars,boats,andothervehicles.
f. Locationssuchaskitchenswhereoilmaysplatter
orwherethereissteamintheair.
g. Locationswhereequipmentproduceselectromag-
neticwaves.
h. Placeswithanacidoralkalinemist.
i. Placeswherefallenleavescanaccumulateor
whereweedscangrow.
• Takesnowprotectionmeasures.Contactyourdealer
forthedetailsofsnowprotectionmeasures,suchas
theuseofasnowprotectionhood.
• Donotattempttodoelectricalworkorgroundingwork
unlessyouarelicensedtodoso.Consultwithyour
dealerforelectricalworkandgroundingwork.
• Payattentiontooperatingsound.Besuretousethe
followingplaces:
a. Placesthatcansufcientlywithstandtheweightof
theairconditionerorheatpumpyetcansuppress
theoperatingsoundandvibrationoftheaircondi-
tionerorheatpump.
b. Placeswherewarmairfromtheairoutletofthe
outdoor unit or the operating sound of the outdoor
unitdoesnotannoyneighbors.
• Makesurethattherearenoobstaclesclosetothe
outdoorunit.Obstaclesclosetotheoutdoorunitmay
droptheperformanceoftheoutdoorunitorincrease
the operating sound of the outdoor unit.
• Consultyourdealeriftheairconditionerorheatpump
in operation generates unusual noise.
• Make sure that the drainpipe is installed properly to
drainwater.Ifnowaterisdischargedfromthedrain-
pipewhiletheairconditionerorheatpumpisinthe
coolingmode,thedrainpipemaybecloggedwithdust
ordirtandwaterleakagefromtheindoorunitmay
occur.Stopoperatingtheairconditionerorheatpump
andcontactyourdealer.

MAINTENANCE
NOTE
• Do not use water or air of 120°F (50°C) or higher for
cleaning air filters and outside panels.
HOW TO CLEAN THE AIR FILTER
When the remote controller indicates Timetocleanlter,
clean the air lter.
• The prompt will display after running for a certain time.
NOTE
• You may change the time of indication Timetocleanlter.
Iftheunitisusedinaspacewheretheairismorecon-
taminated,askyourlocaldealerforsolution.
Contamination Time until indication is displayed
Normal
2500 hours (equivalent to one year)
More contaminated 1250 hours (equivalent to a half year)
• If it becomes difcult to remove contamination from the air
lter, replace the air lter.
(Air lter for replacement is an optional accessory.)
1. Removetheairfilter.
Pull out air lters toward you.
Refer to figure 2 on page [1]

To clean the air filter, wash with a soft bristle brush
and neutral detergent.
Remove water and dry in the shade.
3. Resettheairlterinplace.
Place the air lter back to original position.
Insert it all the way.
4. TurnofftheindicationTimetocleanlterdisplayed
ontheremotecontrollerafterturningonthepower.
• The indication can be turned off whether in operation or
stopped. Refer to the operation manual attached to the
remote controller.
HOW TO CLEAN AIR OUTLET AND OUTSIDE
PANELS
1. Clean with soft cloth.
2. When it is difcult to remove stains, use water or neutral
detergent.
WARNING
• Do not let the indoor unit get wet as it may cause an electric
shock or fire.
NOTE
• Do not use gasoline, benzene, thinner, polishing powder,
liquid insecticide. It may cause discoloring or warping.
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF DISCHARGE
GRILL
Refer to figure 3 on page [1]
1. Lift the rear using the front as a fulcrum. To install
use the opposite method.
CLEANING THE DRAIN STRAINER
The drain strainer clears dirt in the drain water and prevents
the pipe from clogging. However, if the strainer mesh gets
clogged, water may overflow. Remove and wash the mesh
with water before and after seasons when the unit is in use
and once during those seasons.
1. Removethedrainstrainerinthedrippanunder
thedrainpanandwashoffanydirtthatmayhave
accumulated.

2. Return the drain strainer to its previous position so
that the strainer does not leak water.
• Because cleaning requires removing the front panel,
contact the dealer where you bought the product.
