Informative Note carefully and make sure that you
understand it correctly. Contact your nearest DAINESE
service center (see list below) if you have any problems or
doubts regarding use of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION.
Keep this Informative Note handy for future reference.
Dainese S.p.A reserves the right to improve the electronic
components and control software of the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION at any time without prior notice.
WARNING!
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION system you have purchased
(hereinafter “System” and/or “D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION”)
is Personal Protective Equipment provided with its own
supports/fasteners.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION system provides airbag
protection to the deltoid region and lateral false ribs area
and covers the central area of the back with a composite
protector.

SAFETY
INFORMATION
A few general suggestions for the use of the system
are provided below. For greater detail, read the
corresponding parts of the text below.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION has been designed exclusively
for use by professional athletes taking part in Downhill and
Super-G skiing competitions.
Do not use the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION on slopes that have
not been suitably prepared and/or set for Downhill and
Super-G competitions.
Skiing competitions such as Downhill and Super-G are
intrinsically dangerous activities, which may result in
personal injuries or death. While all professional athletes
should wear appropriate protective equipment, no product
or protecting system can oer complete protection against
injury or damage of any kind in the event of a fall, collision,
impact, loss of control or otherwise.
Each person should be familiar with the activity in question,
be aware of his or her skills and limits, the risks involved, and
the equipment to wear, and capable of deciding whether to
take said risks or not. Dainese disclaims any responsibility
for damage to persons and objects incurred while wearing
any of its products.
Use of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION does not exempt the user
from wearing a Helmet.

In the event of the System being triggered, do not use it
again until the airbag has been replaced by the DAINESE
Technical Assistance Service.
In the event of damage to the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
contact the Dainese Technical Assistance Service.
The system is sensitive to sudden body movements and to
impacts, therefore wearers must never perform manoeuvres
that are not necessary for normal sports activities.
Before starting out always make sure that the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION has correctly identified the GPS signal,
otherwise the System will not switch on.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is a new intelligent device
intended for specific use in Downhill and Super-G
competitions. The System can identify falls as indicated in
paragraph 3.3.
During inflation of the airbag device slight pressure may
be felt in the body region subjected to the pressure of the
airbag System.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION should be used exclusively
within a temperature range between -20°C and 40°C;
important. Prolonged exposure of the System to
temperatures outside a range between -20°C and 40°C
may compromise its correct operation.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is subject to wear based on
eective conditions of use. Before using the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION or putting it away, always check for signs of
wear or damage.
Even if it is operating correctly, contact the Dainese
Technical Assistance Service once every 3 years for a
maintenance check and the servicing of any components
subject to wear. Correct maintenance is essential for the
correct operation of the system.
Before each use, the functionality of the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION must be carefully checked following the
instructions in this Informative Note. Whenever there
is a state of error or any other anomaly, do not use the
D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION and contact the nearest DAINESE
Technical Assistance Service.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION consists of a protector of the
deltoid region and a protector of the lateral false ribs area
with airbag technology and of a composite back protector.
People who wear pacemakers or other medical devices
should not use the system as electric disturbance might
interfere with correct operation of these devices.
People with back or neck problems, or who have recently
undergone abdominal/chest surgery, should not use the
System.
The athlete should not have silicone breast implants. The
risk of rupturing the implants in the event of inflation has
not been evaluated.
The athlete should not be pregnant. It is not possible to
perform tests to determine the consequences in the event of
triggering of the System.
Make sure that there are no items in pockets or in backpacks
that could perforate or damage the airbag.
Never sew or modify your D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION or its
components in any way. Modification of any nature could
compromise the functionalities of the D-AIR SKY EVOLUTION
and consequently its protective functions in the event of a
fall. Never place decorations, tapes or patches over the area
in which the airbag is positioned. Never connect any kind of
electric equipment or external battery to the existing cables.
D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION components can be modified only by
authorized Dainese operators.
To make the best use of its functionalities, the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION must be installed and worn correctly, carefully
following the instructions and warnings provided in this
Informative Note.
Any body piercings may increase any feeling of pain in the
event of triggering.
Do not switch on the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION when it is not
being worn or when you are wearing it but you are not
skiing. If used incorrectly the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION can
trigger inappropriate inflation that could damage property
or even pose a risk for people’s safety. Always make sure
that the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION has been switched o
before transporting it anywhere. The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
must be switched o when not in use.
Do not charge the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION while wearing it.
Do not leave the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION charging close to
flammable surfaces or objects.
Keep children away from the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION in
order to avoid all possible risk.
Whenever signs of malfunction appear, switch o the System,
and contact the Dainese Technical Assistance Service.

2.1. OVERVIEW
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is an innovative system
designed exclusively for the safety of professional
athletes taking part in Downhill and Super-G skiing
competitions.
Never use the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION for purposes other
than those for which it was designed.
Never use the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION for recreational alpine
skiing, ski touring, snowboarding or other sports.
Never use the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION on slopes that have
not been suitably prepared and/or set out for Downhill and
Super-G competitions.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION does not oer any additional
protection in the areas not covered by it.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION does not oer any additional
protection in the areas covered by the airbag during events
that do not cause triggering and inflation of the airbag.
2.2. PROTECTION OFFERED BY THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
PROTECTIVE DEVICE
In view of the particular protection oered by the D-AIR
SKI EVOLUTION protective device, it must be considered
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and is therefore
subject to the requirements established by Regulation (EU)
2016/425. The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION protective device
covered by this Informative Note must be considered Class 2
PPE according to Regulation (EU) 2016/425, namely PPE to
which DAINESE may ax the CE mark only once the product
has passed the “EU type examination” at a notified body. The
Notified Body that certified your D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is:
EU NOTIFIED BODY No. 2008 DOLOMITICERT Scarl, Zona
industriale Villanova 7/A – 32013 LONGARONE (BL) better
specified in the CERTIFICATIONS/APPROVALS section of
this Informative Note.
Conformity with the essential health and safety requirements
established by Regulation (EU) 2016/425 has also been
achieved on account of:
compliance of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION Personal
Protective Equipment for the deltoid region and lateral false
ribs area, with the following technical specifications;
• DOLOMITICERT - Technical disciplinary for inflatable
protectors with electronic activation for high speed ski
competitions Revision n° 1 of March 22, 2019
These technical specifications are based, among others, also
on the following document:
• EN 1621 - 4:2013 Motorcyclists’ protective clothing
against mechanical impact – Part 4: Motorcyclists’
inflatable protectors – Requirements and test methods.
Compliance of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION Personal
Protective Equipment for the back area with the following
technical standard:
• EN 1621 - 2:2014 “Motorcyclists’ protective clothing
against mechanical impact Part 2: Motorcyclists’ back
protectors – Requirements and test methods”
Said standard is applied with the integration of the following
document:
• RFU number CNB/P/09.014 revision 02.
Note: as the aforesaid standard was developed for the
motorcycling sector, it requires a specific pictogram for this
use and the number of this standard to be indicated on the
marking. In order to avoid confusion and misunderstandings
concerning the intended use of the device, only one
pictogram is provided, referring specifically to the use for
which the protector was designed.

THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
The System to which this Informative Note refers must be considered Class 2 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as it has
been designed and produced to provide limited protection against the risks of mechanical impact in the event of a fall. For
the performance levels achieved by the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION Personal Protective Equipment in tests to determine the Level

2.5. HOW TO CHOOSE AND WEAR
THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
Equipment must be chosen with attention to the indications and the symbols on the marking.
To choose the correct D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION back and chest protector, refer to the distance between waist and shoulder, as
there is no constant relation with body height. This is the maximum vertical length, measured at the back, from the waistline
to the point in which the shoulder joins the neck. To find the waistline, stand upright and pass a measuring tape around your
waist 50 mm above the iliac crests.

In order for a protective device to perform its protective
action correctly, the body area to be protected must remain
eciently covered.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is a Protective Device provided
with its own supports and fasteners, designed for use under
the competition suit.
To find the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION most suited to the distance between your waist and shoulder consult Table 4 in the
section (Position and minimum sizes of the areas protected by the D AIR SKI EVOLUTION).

Always close the front zip and fasten the waist band,
ensuring it fits the body tightly; if necessary, adjust the
tightness of the band using the specific elastics with velcro.
Never use the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION without first having
closed all the fastening systems, in particular close the
front zip and close the waist band: it could be dangerous
and/or FAIL TO protect in the event of triggering.
Do not choose too large a size of D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION,
as if triggered it could interfere with the helmet, creating
dangerous situations.
Always adjust the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION in such way that it
fits snugly against the body.
Carefully check the size of your D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION at
the time of purchase.
When choosing the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION always refer to
the distance between waist and shoulder, as only one size
cannot adapt to all body sizes (height and shape).

2.6. HOW TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE REMOVABLE
PARTS OF THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
To facilitate cleaning or replacement of spare parts, it is possible to remove both the cover and the airbag from the D-AIR SKI

2.8. USE, INTEGRITY AND EFFICIENCY OF
THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
The functions for which D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION was designed will only be performed correctly if it is correctly installed, worn
and switched on.
Whenever the System has been triggered and/or in case of impact, have the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION reset by the Dainese
Technical Assistance Service, either through the dealer from which the product was originally purchased, or by contacting the
Dainese Technical Assistance Service directly.
ATTENZIONE
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION serves to reduce the risk
of injury by limiting the impact force transferred
in the event of a fall and impact against the slope
prepared for the race. However, it is stressed that no
protector is able to protect from twisting, bending or
extreme movements. No back protector can provide
protection against serious injuries of the spinal
column. PROTECTIVE DEVICES CANNOT PROVIDE
PROTECTION AGAINST ALL POSSIBLE IMPACT IN
ACCIDENTS AND THEREFORE CANNOT PROVIDE
COMPLETE PROTECTION AGAINST INJURIES.
For the temperatures of use of the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION, please refer to the temperatures at
which it was tested, indicated in Table 1. In any case,
we recommend avoiding exposing the protector to
temperature extremes; climatic variations such as
sudden increases in temperature can drastically reduce
the protection oered by the device; moreover, the
device should not be left in an outdoor environment at
low temperatures before use.
Spare parts may be required for the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION; for example, the airbag can be replaced
with new airbags after triggering. Original Dainese
spare parts of the same size and model must always be
used to replace these parts.

2.9. INFORMATION ON THE MATERIALS USED
It is hereby certified that the materials that come into contact with the wearer have been produced with suitable non toxic and
non harmful products, as established by EC Regulation 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex XVII. It is specified that as established by
Regulation EC 1907/2006 (R.E.A.C.h), such materials have no azo colorants capable of releasing dangerous aromatic amines
through the cleavage of one or more azo groups Annex XVII. Moreover, the articles marketed do not contain any Substances
of Very High Concern (SVHC), identified according to Article 59 and listed in the Candidate List published by the ECHA
(European Chemical Agency), in concentrations greater than 0.1% weight/weight.
2.10. DURATION OF THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
PROTECTIVE DEVICE
The duration of a protective device depends on its frequency of use and the care with which it is stored by the user.
In any case, contact the Dainese Technical Assistance Service once every 3 years to request a maintenance check and the
servicing of any components subject to wear.
DAINESE does not guarantee the suitability of the
device and therefore shall in no way be held liable if the
product is used after expiry of the time limit established
for servicing/maintenance if this has not actually been
performed.
IMPORTANT: before each use check the D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION for signs of wear, breakage or damage and if
in doubt, contact the Dainese Technical Assistance Service
or an authorized Dainese dealer.

3.1. OVERVIEW
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is an innovative system
designed exclusively for the safety of professional
athletes taking part in Downhill and Super-G skiing
competitions.
3.1.1. ELECTRONICS
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is controlled by micro
electronics that trigger inflation of the system whenever
one of the pre set conditions arises. The system has an
internal diagnostics routine and whenever malfunction
occurs, the user interface LED will begin flashing red.
The electronic unit is powered by a Li Po rechargeable
battery whose charge level is indicated whenever the
device is switched on/o by a series of flashes. See
paragraph 3.1.4. “Batteries and battery life of the System”.
CAUTION: in the event of malfunction do not use the
System (user interface red flashing LED). In this case
contact the DAINESE Technical Assistance Service.
IMPORTANT: people who wear pacemakers or other
medical devices should not use the System as electric
disturbance might interfere with correct operation of
these devices.
The electronic system is contained inside the back protector
present in the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION, inside a special housing,
represented in Figure 1.

The electronic part is contained inside the back protector;
it is powered by rechargeable batteries positioned inside it
and controls operation of the System in the garment.
The operating status is controlled by a remote switch on/
switch o system, while the battery level can be checked
using the user interface LED.
IMPORTANT: the electronic system housing is sealed by
DAINESE during manufacture. Tampering with this seal
invalidates the product warranty. Do not tamper with
and/or remove the electronic system. Contact the nearest
DAINESE Service Centre in case of need.
3.1.2. USER INTERFACE
The user interface is a small LED mounted on the back
protector, in proximity of the on o switch. The purpose of
the interface is to communicate the information required
by the user. Notes for the correct comprehension and use
of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION user interface are provided
below.
3.1.3. AIRBAG
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION incorporates an airbag that
contains a high pressure gas canister for inflation of the
airbag.
3.1.4. BATTERIES AND BATTERY LIFE OF THE SYSTEM
When completely charged, the system should be
capable of staying on for around 8 hours of use.
Whenever the rider makes no significant movements
for more than 5 minutes (static electronic system),
the System automatically enters stand by status
in order to minimize consumption. As soon as
significant movements resume, the System switches
back on.
The battery is not subject to memory eect, and
therefore the System can be completely charged in
any moment.
For more information on battery operation and
charging, see paragraph 3.5. “Checking the battery
charge level and charging”.
3.1.5. USB BATTERY CHARGER
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION comes with a USB
battery charger. This battery charger must be
connected to a 100-240V 50-60Hz current socket.
Whenever such 100-240V 50-60Hz current socket
is not available, the battery can be charged by using
the USB cable to connect the System directly to a
computer.
Once the USB cable is connected to the charging
source, the user interface LED will light up red.
When 90% of the full charge has been reached,
the LED will turn green. When the system is fully
charged, the LED will turn blue.

3.2. SYSTEM ON/OFF PROCEDURES
Make sure that the System’s batteries are fully charged, the battery charge has a duration of around 8 hours; make sure that
you charge your D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION before the battery charge runs down completely.
Before putting on the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION switch
on the device with the on o switch located on the
back protector, as indicated in Figure 2 below.

Put on the device.
After you have finished using the System,
deactivate the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION immediately
using the on/o switch indicated in Figure 4.
Before mounting the device, check system status by
using the user interface. The System must find its
GPS signal and be ready as shown by the flashing
blue LED (see user interface chapter). One single
blue LED flashing cycle confirms the reception of
the signal.

When the System is not in use, always make sure
that it is switched o. If switched on the system
could be triggered accidentally during transport.

3.2.1. CHECKING CORRECT FUNCTIONALITY OF
THE SYSTEM
Always check System functionality before use. Use
of the system when signs of anomaly appear must
be considered as being performed at the user’s own
risk.
Switch the system on and step outside where the
GPS signal can be correctly received. When you see
a single blue LED every two seconds, this means that
the System is ready to be put on and used. For more
details, check the flashing codes in the previous
paragraph “Guide to user interface LED sequences
during use”.
Before using the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION always make
sure that the System has correctly identified the GPS,
as the System will only be triggered in this case.

The events described above are only some
examples of triggering conditions. In some cases included
in the aforesaid events, the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION might
NOT be triggered and hence might NOT protect, especially
in cases in which said events occur at low speed and/or
when there is a deceleration or an impact that produces a
low amount of energy, that the System is unable to identify
as an accident or fall.
In the case of events of considerable intensity D-AIR SKI
EVOLUTION could be triggered and hence the airbag
could inflate. Therefore, acrobatic manoeuvres not usually
performed during skiing must be avoided when the D-AIR
SKI EVOLUTION is switched on.
In the case of direct impact of the skier against a generic
obstacle, the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is eective for the
“second impact”, i.e. the system inflates before the user
impacts against other objects, and not the obstacle of
direct impact of the skier.
D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION has been designed to provide a
suitable degree of protection for 5 seconds after triggering.
The D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION inflation time can vary according to
circumstances and the intensity of the event considered and has been
designed to remain inflated for around 5 seconds after being triggered.
The GPS antenna included in the system monitors whether the system
is moving or is stopped, excluding activation at speeds below 30Km/h.
IMPORTANT: the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
is not activated at speeds below 30km/h, or when the
GPS signal is unavailable. If the GPS signal is unavailable
or is temporarily lost while skiing (e.g. in the case of poor
satellite visibility caused by the mountain terrain), the
D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION is maintained either disabled or
enabled, based on the last speed value detected via GPS.
When the speed drops below 30 km/h the airbag remains
enabled for the next 5 seconds.
3.3.1. WHAT TO DO IF THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION IS
TRIGGERED
When triggered, the system will inflate and subsequently
deflate completely in around 30 seconds. The bag can only
inflate once, and must be replaced after each inflation. Contact
the DAINESE Technical Assistance Service for the replacement
procedure. Alternatively, contact your nearest DAINESE dealer
for more information. If you intend to replace the airbag
yourself, consult the Informative note (D-AIR® INFORMATIVE
NOTE ON SPARE PARTS FOR THE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION) provided with the device.
IMPORTANT: in the event of a fall during
which the System is triggered, do not use it again until the
airbag has been replaced, as the System will not function.
3.3. TRIGGERING OF THE D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION
The sensors installed inside the back protector of the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION 1 constantly monitor its dynamics; information
from the sensors is processed by the central unit and, if the values registered exceed the pre set thresholds, the System inflates
the airbag.
The conditions for which the D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION System is triggered are:
• Loss of balance during jumping with rotation of the torso and irreversible loss of control
• Following direct impact against the passive protective installations on the slope
• Falls with high multi directional rotation components of the torso, such as in cases of slip catch, direct contact
with the posts and subsequent irreversible loss of control or detachment of the ski.

3.4. GUIDE TO USER INTERFACE LED SEQUENCE
DURING USE
The user interface is composed of a three color LED positioned on the back protector in proximity of the on/o switch of the
D-AIR SKI EVOLUTION (see diagram in Figure 5). The three colors are: red, green and blue.
After the device is switched on using the on/
o switch, the interface will show the charge
level remaining in the System’s battery through a
sequence of 5 green or red and flashings repeated
twice. Five green flashings indicate a full charge;
every red flash indicates a loss of roughly 20% in
charge. Each flashing lasts around 0.2 seconds, each
flashing sequence is separated from the next by a
pause of around 2 seconds.
After the battery’s charge level has been indicated,
the status of the system will be indicated through
another sequence of six flashings. A blue flashing
followed by green flashings indicates that the signal
is operating correctly and that it is now awaiting the
GPS signal. This might happen inside a building, for
example, or where the GPS signal is not available.
