4 Requirements
The device is designed for indoor use. If used outdoors, the device has to be mounted into
a corresponding weather-proof housing (ventilated, temperature-controlled).
4.1 General
Unfavourable local conditions may shorten the life of the product and can cause malfunc-
tions or damages.
Do not install/operate the device in places
• with large scale dust and dirt.
• with steam or oil vapors (e.g. kitchen).
• with direct sunlight.
• strong heat emission (e.g. radiator).
• with improper ambient temperatures.
• near sources of strong radiation (e.g. radio transmitters, magnetic elds).
• with corrosive surroundings (e.g. gases, salt water).
• insufcient air ventilation (e.g. closed cabinet).
4.2 Power supply
The device can be operated via PoE (Power over Ethernet, Class 0) or at 24 V AC.
Ensure that the existing network supports the PoE standard IEEE 802.3af if you want to
supply the device with power over Ethernet.
4.3 Outdoor
If used outdoors, the device has to be mounted in a weather-proof housing. Note that direct
insolation can cause very high temperatures inside the housing. In this case it is absolutely
necessary to use a ventilated, temperature-controlled metal weather-proof housing and a
sunshield if required.
To ensure optimal heat conduction, a metal carriage should always be used if the device is
mounted in a (weather-proof) housing.

6 Installation and commissioning
The MicroStreamer-PoE can be installed on ceiling/wall brackets or freely positioned. How-
ever, it must be ensured that the connection panel is freely accessible.
WARNING
Device falling off
Danger of injury
Ensure that the device is securely positioned or mounted.
Electric shock hazard
Danger of death or serious injury
Disconnect the power supply unit from the mains socket before connect-
ing the device.
Danger of death from lightning strike
Do not connect the video cable during a thunderstorm.
NOTICE
Possible damage to the device caused by inappropriate mounting equip-
ment or incorrect installation.
The length of the tripod screw must not exceed 7 mm.
Pay attention to the manufacturer’s documentation when installing the
device into a weather-proof housing.
If required, mount the MicroStreamer-PoE on a ceiling/wall bracket using the ¼" tripod
socket (C) and an appropriate tripod screw.
Connect the analogue camera with a coaxial video cable to the BNC socket (D).
Connect the MicroStreamer-PoE via LAN port (I) to the network.
For video preview purposes, connect the delivered adapter cable to the analogue video
preview output (G) and a CVBS monitor.
If Power over Ethernet (PoE) is NOT available, proceed as follows:
In order to comply with the UL requirements, you have to use a UL-certied, limited power
source (LPS) Class 2 power supply unit.
Connect the MicroStreamer-PoE via power input terminal (E) to an appropriate power
supply unit.
Connect the power supply unit to the mains socket.
The Power LED (F) illuminates and the MicroStreamer-PoE boots up.
The MicroStreamer-PoE can be congured via network after approx. 45 seconds.

MicroStreamer-PoE

7 Connection and login
The conguration of the device is carried out with a PC/web browser via the local area
network (LAN).
Alternatively, the PC can be directly connected to the device via an Ethernet crossover
cable.
7.1 System requirements
To congure the device with live video display, the PC must meet the following minimum
system requirements:
Computer IBM*)-PC compatible
Processor (CPU) 1.3 GHz
Random access memory (RAM) 256 MB
Operating system Microsoft*) Windows*) 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Windows Vista*)
each with latest service pack
Web browser Microsoft Internet Explorer*), latest version
Graphics card DirectX*) 9.0 compatible
Ethernet 100 Mbit/s
Software Adobe*) Flash*) Player, latest version
Dallmeier control for ActiveX*), latest version
Note that
• a more powerful PC is required if several devices are congured with live video display
simultaneously.
• a DirectX compatible graphics card and the Dallmeier control for ActiveX are not requi-
red for the conguration without live video display.
• the Dallmeier control for ActiveX can be downloaded from the Dallmeier Partner Fo-
rum.
• the Dallmeier control for ActiveX can be automatically downloaded via Internet after
the connection to the device (only with Microsoft Internet Explorer and if it is not alrea-
dy installed).
• the conguration without live video display may be possible with any operating system
and web browser. However, the Adobe Flash Player is always required for the con-
guration.
7.2 IP address
The factory default IP address of the device is 192.168.2.28.
To nd out the current IP address of the device, proceed as follows:
Ensure that the device is disconnected from the power supply.

MicroStreamer-PoE
www.dallmeier.com 17
Connect the video preview output of the device with an adapter cable to a CVBS monitor.
Switch on the monitor.
Connect the device to the power supply.
When the device starts, wait for approximately one minute.
The current IP address of the device is displayed for approximately 30 seconds on the
monitor.
7.3 Connection
Ensure that the PC/web browser can establish a connection to the device via Ethernet.
Start the web browser.
Enter the IP address of the device into the address bar of the web browser.
Conrm the input.
The connection to the device is established.
The graphical user interface (GUI) of the live mode is displayed.

Note the explanations below.
Hide the title bar (A) if required.
Activate the Networks with routers checkbox if required.
Adjust the live video resolution (D) if required.
This resolution setting only affects the live video display in the web browser and is not re-
lated to the encoder settings.
Network with routers
If the network connection to the device is established via a router/gateway with NAT (Net-
work Address Translation) function, the live video may not be shown in certain circumstan-
ces. In this case, two solutions are available:
The router/gateway has to be congured for a correct address translation of data packets
sent by the User Datagram Protocol (UDP). UDP is by default used by the streaming func-
tion of the device.
An easier solution is to activate the Networks with routers (NAT) checkbox. In this case,
the device switches the protocol of the streaming function to the Transmission Control Pro-
tocol (TCP). To receive the data packets, the port 30000 for the DaVid Protocol1 and port
80 for the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) must be open.
Note that at data transmission over TCP
• normally no packet loss (lack of images) occurs.
• short-term peaks in network trafc may occur.
• low delays may occur.
The “Networks with routers (NAT)” function does not affect the “Video streaming” function
(see section “Video streaming” on page 41).
7.4 Login
The graphical user interface of the conguration mode is displayed after the successful
identication as authorised user.
Note that the factory default password of user group Group 1: admin is “3”.
NOTICE
Risk of misuse by unauthorized users!
Change the factory default password as soon as possible.
