1. FUNCTION
Dantherm warm air heaters are indirect fired units for oil or gas firing. The heat produced by the
burner is transferred to the air which is passed over the burner chamber and heat exchanger by a
fan.
On WA 20/30 heaters the cold air is taken in at the bottom of the heater and the hot air is blown out
in the top.
On WA 20M the air flow direction is opposite, so that the cold air is taken in at the top of the unit
and the heated air is blown out at the bottom.
The operation of the unit is controlled as follows:
¾When the room thermostat has signalled to the unit to start, the burner runs with pre-purge
of the burner chamber. Shortly after the burner will ignite.
¾When the burner has been working for a few minutes the air in the heater will have reached
a temperature sufficiently high for the fan to start automatically. The purpose of this delayed
starting of the fan is to avoid blowing cold air into the room when the heater starts. From the
factory the fan is set to start at a temperature of 50°C.
¾When the room thermostat gives a signal to the heater to stop, the burner will stop but the
fan will continue to run. A few minutes later, when the temperature has dropped to about
30°C, the fan will also stop. The purpose of letting the fan run for a few minutes longer than
the burner is to cool down the burner chamber and heat exchanger slowly to avoid possible
damage by rapid contraction of the metal. After the fan has stopped it may happen that the
burner chamber and the heat exchanger are still so hot that the fan will start again a few
minutes later.
¾If a fault occurs in the unit the built-in safety thermostats will stop it immediately. The Limit-
thermostat will switch off the burner when the air temperature has reached 80°C. When the
temperature has dropped the burner will start automatically again. The fan is still running.
When the temperature in the unit exceeds 100°C the safety temperature limiter (OT) will be
activated and switch off the unit as well as the fan. It will now only be possible to start the
unit after a manual resetting.

3. POSITIONING AND MOUNTING
When positioning the unit all legal requirements such as gas,
electric and building regulation must be observed.
When positioning the heater, all legal requirements regarding
inspection and cleaning must be observed.
There must be free access to the unit from all sides, so that all components can be inspected.
The space in which the unit is placed, must be sufficiently ventilated. Negative pressure in the
space must not occur, for instance as a result of the operation of the burner or the exhaust, as this
could result in oxygen deficiency at the burner, which might result in bad combustion or faults at
the burner. In such cases a separate fresh air intake for the burner or the room (wall louvre) will
have to be installed.
The position of the unit must be chosen in such a way that the heated air is not blown directly
against pillars, shelves, partition walls etc.
3.1 Mounting of WA 20M
WA 20M is designed only for duct connection and will therefore have to be mounted directly on the
supply air duct. The air intake duct is fitted at the top of the heater. The flue can only be connected
at the back of the heater.
3.2 Mounting of WA 20 and WA 30
On delivery the heater is placed horizontally on a wooden pallet. After removing the packing the
WA 20/30 heater is placed on either the supplied stand or directly on an air intake duct. If the unit
is to work without air intake duct the stand MUST be used, as the air is taken in at the bottom of
the unit.
If a fresh air supply is required, the heater must be placed on a special module (extra accessory).
The fresh air duct is connected to one of the four sides of the module – please refer to drawing and
dimensions below.

Supply of heated air and connection of flue outlet can be carried out in one of the following ways:
¾Air supply (free-blowing) through module (accessory) and flue outlet connection at the
back of the heater
If flue outlet connection on the back has been ordered, the heater will be fitted with a pre-
mounted flue outlet piece. The air supply module is not fitted on delivery.
¾Air supply (free-blowing) through module (accessory) and flue outlet connection at the
top of the heater
If flue outlet connection on top has been ordered, the heater will be fitted with a pre-mounted
flue outlet piece. The air supply module is not fitted on delivery.
¾Air supply through duct and flue outlet connection at the back of the heater
If flue outlet connection on the back has been ordered, the heater will be fitted with a pre-
mounted flue outlet piece. Duct connection in accordance with the drawing below.

3.4 Duct Connection
If ducts for air intake and exhaust are to be fitted, please take care that the total pressure loss of
the entire duct system is not too large – please refer to section 2 Technical data. With high
pressure losses in the ducts the quantity of air will be reduced, so that the unit will become

the support must be fixed to something else than the heater.
The chimney must be connected in accordance with national legal requirements.
Consult the local chimney sweeper.
Chimney connection for gas-fired heaters is to be made only by authorized
specialists.
If flue outlet connection at the top of the heaters has been chosen, the chimney has
to be insulated by non-inflammable material (mineral wool).

overheated and as a result of this switch off (see also paragraph 6, Fault finding). A too high
pressure loss will also reduce the efficiency of the unit.
3.5 Burner door
WA 20/30 standard versions are fitted with right-hand door. The door is changed to left-hand by
dismounting the hinges at the right, turn them 180° and mounting them again in the door fittings at
the left.
3.6 Electrical connection
Inside the control panel is a terminal strip on which all the connections of the unit are located. 1 x
230 V/50 Hz supply voltage is connected through the terminals L and N (network) and through the
earth terminal.
The room thermostat is connected through the terminals 8/9 (room thermostat). Use terminal 7(N)
if a room thermostat with accelerator is mounted The existing bridges are removed, as the burner
will otherwise run continuously. A thermostat for 1 x 230V or a week panel 1 x 230V is used.
The cables for power supply and room thermostats can be passed into the heater through the
holes at the top or the bottom. The holes have a covering which can easily be pierced. The cables
are passed into the control box by means of PG screw-joints.
If a fan speed control is installed it is connected on the terminal strip at the same position as the
burner through the terminals A/B. The existing bridge between the two terminals is removed.
3.7 Burner connection
Oil or gas supply pipes can be passed into the heater through the pre-bored holes at the top or at
the bottom of the heater in the same way as the electrical connection.
The burner is connected to mains by means of a Wieland plug. This plug is already pre-mounted in
the burner compartment. If the burner has no corresponding plug/does not fit to this plug, the
Wieland plug in the WA 20/30 unit should be disconnected and electrical connection is instead
made as shown in the wiring diagram and according to the wiring diagram of the burner.
Burner manufactures and burner types utilised must be affixed with the
CE marking. Gas burners must be in accordance with EN 676. Oil
burners must be in accordance with EN 267. It must be ensured that the
working area is correct for the heater in question.
Oil and gas connection is to be made only by authorized
specialists.
Before starting and adjustment of the burner, please refer to the instructions from the burner
supplier. If the heater is delivered with pre-mounted burner the instruction manual for the burner is
delivered separately with the WA heater.

4. STARTING
Important!
The warm air heater may only be switched off by means of the
room thermostat or the burner switch. Switching off the unit by
means of an external breaker might cause overheating and thus
damage to the burner chamber and
the heat exchanger.
If the temperature for some reason rises above 80°C inside the heater, the Limit thermostat will
stop the burner till the temperature has fallen below 80°C. If the temperature inside the heater rises
above 100°C the safety temperature limiter (OT) will switch off all voltage to the heater, so that
burner and fan are inactivated. When the heater has been cooled down it will not start again
automatically. Re-starting will follow by pressing the reset-button (1) on the safety temperature
limiter (OT) (see figure below).
WA M 20 has two OT thermostats with each their reset push-button (1) and (2) - (see figure
below). If one of the safety thermostats has switched off the unit, see paragraph 6 “Fault Finding”.

4.1 Winter Operation
In the sections “Winter Operation” and “Summer Operation” references are made to the figure
below.
The burner breaker (1) is put in position 1 - (on)
¾If a room thermostat is connected to the models WA 20/30 the burner will be controlled
automatically by this thermostat, i.e. the burner will start automatically when the room
temperature is lower than the setting on the thermostat, and it will stop again when the
temperature has reached the set value.
The fan breaker (2) is set on either AUT or MAN
¾If the fan breaker is set on AUT the fan is controlled automatically. Which means that when the
temperature inside the heater has reached 50°C the fan will start automatically, and when the
heater has been cooled down to about 30°C (burner stop) the fan will stop automatically.
¾If the fan breaker is set on MAN the fan will run continuously till it is set on AUT.
4.2 Summer Operation
The burner breaker (1) is set on 0 and the fan breaker (2) on MAN. In that way ventilation and a
comfortable temperature is obtained.
4.3 Operation With Fan Speed Control (extra accessory)
The air supply can be adjusted by means of a fan speed control (extra accesory). It is important not
to reduce the air supply too much, as it will reduce the efficiency of the heater and the heater
may also be switched off by the Limit thermostat (see paragraph 6 “Fault Finding”).

5. SERVICE AND CLEANING
5.1 Filter
The air intake filter should be checked and, if necessary, cleaned/renewed every 6 months. In very
dusty rooms it should be checked more often. The filter is drawn out of the filter frame. If the filter is
only a little dirty it can be vacuum cleaned. If it is very dirty it should be washed in luke warm soapy
water or perhaps be renewed. Before the complete filter is pushed back into the heater the fan
runner must be checked and perhaps vacuum cleaned.

5.2 Burner Chamber and Heat Exchanger
For heaters with flue outlet connection at the top the distance to
the wall must be big enough to allow inspection and cleaning to
be carried out through the inspection door at the back of the
heater.
The heat exchanger and the burner chamber should be cleaned at least once a year, as soot
deposits may reduce the efficiency of the unit. Warm air heaters should be checked at least once a
year by a specialist! We recommend you to take out a service contract.

Burner chamber and heat exchanger are cleaned in the following way:
¾Remove cover plates above and below the burner.
¾Remove the inspection covers (6/8) above and below the heat exchanger.
¾Draw out the turbulators through the upper and anterior heat exchanger pipes (1) and (7).
¾If there is no visible dirt in the heat exchanger the unit is reassembled as described above,
but in reverse order. New packing should always be used when reassembling the unit.
¾If it is necessary to clean the heat exchanger the burner should also be removed and the
burner
¾chamber (3) be checked for dirt.
¾Then every heat exchanger tube (1) and (7) is cleaned by means of a round wire brush.
The soot deposits in the lower assembler (4) are vacuumed out through the burner opening
and the soot in the upper assembler (2) is vacuumed out through the heat exchanger pipes
by means of a vacuum cleaner.
¾Then the turbulators are cleaned and pushed back into the upper and anterior heat
exchanger tubes (1) and (7) and the unit is reassembled in reverse order.
5.3 Further Components
All other components in the WA 20/20M/30 heaters need no service. The burner should be
checked in accordance with the instructions of the burner supplier. All thermostats have to be
checked once a year.

6. FAULT FINDING
In case of failure - check the following points:
¾Is there any oil in the tank and are all valves open?/Is there any gas supply?
¾Is the current supply to the unit OK?
¾Is the room thermostat/week-end panel set to a temperature higher than the room
temperature?
¾Are the air intake- and exhaust openings open?
¾If the above points are OK, check the unit according to the table below

1. FUNKTIONSBESCHREIBUNG
Dantherm Lufterhitzer sind direkt befeuerte Warmlufterzeuger die mit Öl oder Gasbrenner geliefert
werden können. Die durch den Brenner erzeugte Wärme wird direkt an die Luft, welche durch
einen Ventilator an der Brennkammer und dem Wärmetauscher vorbeigeführt wird, übertragen. Bei
den Geräten WA 20/30 wird die kalte Luft unten am Gerät angesaugt und oben am Gerät als
erwärmte Luft ausgeblasen. Bei dem Gerät WA M 20 geschieht die Luftführung in umgekehrter
Richtung, welches bedeutet, dass die kalte Luft oben am Gerät angesaugt und unten als erwärmte
Luft wieder ausgeblasen wird.
Der Betrieb der Geräte wird folgendermassen reguliert:
¾Nachdem der Raumthermostat das Signal zum Starten der Anlage gegeben hat, beginnt der
Brenner mit der Vorventilation der Brennkammer. Kurz danach zündet der Brenner.
¾Nach einer Brennerlaufzeit von ein paar Minuten hat die Frischluft im Gerät eine genügend
hohe Temperatur erreicht, so dass jetzt der Ventilator automatisch in Betrieb genommen wird.
Der Grund für diesen verzögerten Ventilatorstart besteht darin, dass keine kalte Luft in der
Startphase des Gerätes in den Raum geblasen werden soll. Die Starttemperatur des
Ventilators liegt werkseingestellt bei 50°C. Der Ventilator des WA M 20 startet aus technischen
Gründen nicht versetzt, sondern zusammen mit dem Brenner.
¾Wenn der Raumthermostat dem Gerät das Signal zum Ausschalten gibt stoppt der Brenner
aber der Ventilator läuft weiter. Wenn die Temperatur im Gerät nach ein paar Minuten auf ca.
30°C abgefallen ist, schaltet auch der Ventilator automatisch ab. Der Ventilatornachlauf dient
dazu die Brennkammer und den Wärmewechsler langsam abzukühlen, damit keine
Wärmespannungen und damit Beschädigungen auftreten können. Nach dem Stop des
Ventilators kann es passieren, dass die Brennkammer und der Wärmetauscher immer noch so
warm sind, dass der Ventilator nach ein paar Minuten nochmals zum Abkühlen startet.
¾Sollte ein Fehler im Gerät auftreten, so sorgen eingebaute Sicherheitsthermostate für das
rechtzeitige Ausschalten des Gerätes. Ein Limit Thermostat schaltet den Brenner beim
Erreichen einer Frischlufttemperatur von 80°C ab. Fällt die Temperatur wieder, schaltet sich
der Brenner automatisch wieder zu. Der Ventilator ist dabei weiterhin im Betrieb. Steigt die
Temperatur weiter im Gerät auf über 100°C, schaltet ein sogenannter
Sicherheitstemperaturbegrenzer (OT) das gesamte Gerät vollständig - einschl. Ventilator - ab.
Ein Start des Gerätes ist jetzt nur noch manuell durch Betätigen einer Reset Taste möglich.

3. GERÄTEAUFSTELLUNG
Bei der Aufstellung des Gerätes sind die gültigen Bestimmungen
und Verordnungen wie z.B. die Bau- und Glasvorschriften zu
beac
h
te
n.
Das Gerät ist so aufzustellen, dass die gültigen Vorschriften für
Inspektion und Reinigung beachtet werden
Es ist zu sichern, dass die Vorderseite des Geräts frei zugänglich ist, damit sich alle Komponente
zu inspizieren sind.
Der Raum, in dem sich der Lufterhitzer befindet, muss ausreichend belüftet sein. Es darf durch den
Betrieb des Brenners oder sonstiger bauseitiger Absaugeinrichtungen kein Unterdruck im Raum
entstehen, da dem Brenner hierdurch Sauerstoff entzogen wird und es dadurch zu einer
schlechten Verbrennung bzw. Störung des Brenners kommen kann. Gegebenenfalls ist eine
getrennte Frischluftzuführung am Brenner oder zum Raum zu montieren (Wandventil).
Der Standort des Gerätes sollte so gewählt werden, dass die austretende Warmluft nicht auf
Hindernisse wie Säulen, Regale, Trennwände usw. gerichtet ist.
3.1 Aufstellung des WA 20M Gerätes
Der WA 20M wird nur zur Montage an einen Kanal geliefert und wird daher direkt auf den
Ausblasskanal gesetzt. Oben am Gerät wird danach der Ansaugkanal montiert. Schornstein-

3.2 Aufstellung der WA 20 und WA 30 Geräte
Das Gerät wird auf einer Holzpallete stehend angeliefert. Nach Entfernen der Verpackung kann
der WA 20/30 entweder auf das mitgelieferte Fussgestell oder direkt auf einen Ansaugkanal
gesetzt werden. Soll das Gerät ohne Ansaugkanal arbeiten muss immer ein Fussgestell benutzt
werden, da sich der Ansaug direkt im Boden des Gerätes befindet.
Sollte Frischluftanschluss gewünscht sein, lässt sich ein Modul (Zubehör) zur Placierung des
Geräts anwenden. Der Frischluftkanal ist an einer der vier Seiten dieses Moduls anzuschließen –
laut untenstehenden Ausmaßen.

3.3 Ausblas und Schornsteinanschluss der WA 20 und WA 30 Geräte
Der Ausblas der erwärmten Luft und der Schornsteinanschluss können wie folgt gemacht werden.

Wenn Schornsteinanschluss an der Rückseite des Geräts gewählt wird, ist das Gerät mit
vormontiertem Schornsteinstück geliefert. Bei Lieferung ist das Ausblasmodul nicht montiert.

Bitte darauf achten, dass das Gewicht des Schornsteins nicht auf dem Gerät ruht.
Eventuelle Unterstützung des Schornsteins muss außerhalb des Geräts gemacht
werden.
Der Schornsteinanschluss ist in Übereinstimmung mit den geltenden nationalen
Vorschriften vorzunehmen. Bitte bei dem örtlichen Schornsteinfeger fragen.
Der Schornsteinanschluss an gasbefeuerten Geräten ist vom Fachmann
vorzunehmen.
Wenn Ausblas durch Kanal und Schornsteinanschluss oben gewählt werden, ist
der Schornstein mit nicht-brennbaren Materialien (Mineralwolle) zu isolieren.
3.4 Kanalanschluss
Wird ein Kanal an der Ansaug- oder Ausblasseite montiert, ist darauf zu achten, dass der
Druckverlust des gesamten Kanals nicht zu hoch wird – siehe abschnitt 2 „Technische Daten“.
Durch einen zu hohen Kanaldruckverlust wird die Luftmenge des Gerätes zu stark herabgesetzt,
so dass es zum Überhitzen und Abschalten des Gerätes kommen kann (siehe auch Abschnitt 6
„Störungssuche“ ). Ein zu hoher Druckverlust verschlechtert ebenfalls den Wirkungsgrad des
Gerätes, welches zu Probleme bei der Abnahme durch den Schornsteinfeger führen kann.
