►Printer Setup
1. The printer by default will be setup in the following
manner:
►Printer Status Panel
1. This printer has a status panel located on top of the
printer.
2. The ‘Continue’ button is used to continue the
printing of a print job once a printer jam is
removed. It also is used to start the printing of
manual feed items (e.g. envelopes) once they are
loaded into the manual feed tray.
3. The ‘Cancel’ button cancels the current print job.
4. The ‘Ready|Data’ light indicates if the printer is
ready to start printing. When the ‘Ready|Data’ light
is blinking, the printer is processing data from the
computer to print, or the printer is warming up.
5. The ‘Toner Low’ light indicates that the current
printer toner is low. If the light starts flashing, that
indicates that the printer drum also needs to be
replaced.
6. The ‘Load|Remove Paper’ light indicates that one of
the paper trays needs paper loaded into it.
7. The ‘Paper Jam’ light indicates that there is a paper
jam in the printer.
8. The ‘Error’ light indicates that the printer has an
error. Turn the printer off and back on to clear the
error.
►Removing Paper Jams
NOTE: A paper jam may occur in one or more
locations.
1. Push the button (as indicated by the red arrow) on
the left side of the printer to open the front cover of
the printer.
2. Pull out the printer drum assembly from the inside
of the printer by pulling on the blue handle (as
indicated by the red arrow).

3. Remove any paper jam from the inside of the
printer.
4. Paper may also be jammed in the back of the
printer. Pull open the back door of the printer (as
indicated by the red arrow).
5. Remove the jammed paper and close the back door.
6. Paper may also be jammed in the paper trays. Open
the paper trays and remove any paper jams.

7. After all the paper jams have been removed, reinsert
the paper trays and the printer drum assembly back
into the printer. Push the ‘Continue’ button on top
of the printer for the printer to continue printing
again.
►Turning the Printer Off
1. The power button is located on the back of the
printer as indicated below in the red circle.
2. Push the switch toward the ‘o’ symbol to turn the
printer off. To turn it back on, push the switch
towards the ‘-’ symbol.
►Changing the Toner Cartridge
NOTE: Toner cartridges can only be ordered
directly from Dell.
1. Open the front of the printer. Push the button (as
indicated by the red circle) and pull up on the blue
handle.
2. Unpack the new toner cartridge. Remove the toner
from the plastic bag and pull off the black material
around it.
IMPORTANT: Do not to remove the yellow sticker
off the toner cartridge (as shown below) when
removing the packaging off the toner cartridge.

3. Place the new toner cartridge into the printer and
close the front cover of the printer.
4. Place the old toner cartridge into the plastic bag and
put it into the box.
5. Place the enclosed return UPS shipping (pictured
below) label on the top of the box and deliver to a
UPS drop box or location.
►Changing the Printer Drum
NOTE: Printer drums can only be ordered
directly from Dell.
1. The printer drum will need to be replaced after the
use of 5 – 10 toner cartridges depending on the
capacity of the print jobs. For example, if you print
documents with graphics or pictures the drum will
need to be replaced sooner than if you only print
documents that do not contain graphics or pictures.
To change the printer drum, open the front cover of
the printer. Remove both the toner cartridge and the
printer drum from the printer by pulling on the blue
handle.
2. Remove the toner cartridge from the printer drum
by pushing the button (as indicated by the red arrow
below) and pulling on the blue handle.
3. Unpack the new printer drum and remove all the
packaging from it.
4. Insert the toner cartridge into the new printer drum.
Insert the toner and new printer drum into the
printer and close the front cover of the printer.
