DELL™ POWERVAULT™ TL4000/TL2000 TAPE LIBRARIES BENEFITS

in one simple solution
• Help free up IT resources and eliminate the cost and inconvenience of manually
attended backup/recovery

• Library Managed Encryption available with LTO-4
• Supports iSCSI using SAS tape drives
The reliability, convenience, and affordability of tape media are still indisputable —
tape remains a vital part of any data protection and disaster-recovery strategy.
Some organizations have relied on tape autoloaders for data protection — but are now
nding that their needs have outgrown the capacity and performance of autoloaders.
For growing organizations, manually attended backups have become a major time sink,
keeping resources from other important work and raising staff costs unacceptably.
Organizations that must back up more than 1TB of data from disk to tape need more
than an autoloader — they need increased capacity and performance, as well as a way
of avoiding the stafng costs and potential data loss associated with manually attended
backups.
In the past, tape library solutions may have seemed too large, expensive, or complicated
for such organizations. But now, by changing the economics of storage, Dell has brought
the functionality and value of tape automation to smaller-but-growing organizations, with
the simplicity and affordability they need.
Dell PowerVault TL series tape libraries provide reliable, hands-off, around-the-clock
operation in compact, high-performance libraries that are customer installable and easy
to set up and manage. These libraries were designed to deliver maximum protection for
a minimal investment, putting tape automation within reach.

mANy DATA PROTECTION ChALLENGES —
ONE SImPLE SOLUTION
The PowerVault TL series tape libraries enable two critical
data protection activities: backup and archiving.
Backup
Help avoid the risk of data loss. Create on-site backup copies
of data, using the rewritable functionality of LTO media.
Archiving
Create permanent, portable archive copies of data using
WORM (Write Once, Read Many) capability. WORM
enables you to create data copies that cannot be
overwritten, to help you comply with government
and industry data-protection requirements.
SImPLICITy FROm ThE START
The PowerVault TL series tape libraries come rack-ready
and can be connected to a server or a SAN. It features
an intuitive operator control panel, plus remote Web
management — you can perform setup and diagnostics,
check status, monitor operations and logs, and upgrade
rmware all from any standard Web browser.
ThE FREEDOm OF AUTOmATION
Manual involvement in backup and recovery costs valuable
staff time — and it could cost you data. The PowerVault TL
series tape libraries can free your staff from the burden of
attended backups, while freeing you from the worry of lost
or misplaced tape cartridges.
Here’s how it works: the libraries contain multiple
slots for storing tape media, and use a robotic
mechanism to move media automatically and operate
independently — unattended.
To keep contents properly organized, a bar code reader
inventories all tapes stored in the library and tracks them as
they are imported and exported. The optical cartridge-location
technology enables precision cartridge handling and inventory,
helping to improve the overall reliability of backups.
LTO-4 backs up a staggering 432GB per hour per drive,
while your staff is deployed on other work. But you stay in
control, with an intuitive LCD interface plus Web-based
remote monitoring and management.
ThE ENTRy LEVEL TO mID-RANGE TAPE LIBRARy
ThAT’S RIGhT FOR yOU
With two models in the TL series to choose from, choose
the size you need and you get the same great functionality
in both units. The PowerVault TL4000 is a 4U solution
holding up to 48 tapes, up to 38.4TB native capacity and is
ideal for growing organizations. The PowerVault TL2000 is
a 2U solution that holds up to 24 tapes for a native capacity
of up to 19.2TB and is ideal for customers who are moving
into the library technology.
If your data protection needs have grown and you want versatility
and simplicity in an affordable compact tape-automation solution,
choose the PowerVault TL series tape library.
