Thank you for purchasing a Doran scale This product has been designed with

Unpacking
Carefully remove the scale from the shipping carton If you notice any shipping
damage, notify the shipper immediately Be sure to retain all shipping materials
in case the scale must be shipped elsewhere

Your new scale is a durable industrial grade product, but it is also a sensitive
weighing instrument Normal care should be taken when handling and using this
product Improper handling or abuse can damage the scale and result in costly
repairs that may not be covered by the warranty Please observe the following

Installation
Place the scale on a stable flat surface The scale should rest evenly on all four
feet
Battery Installation
The DS4050 comes with a set of four AA alkaline batteries Automatic Shutoff
ensures long batter life
The batteries can be accessed on the bottom of the scale To access the battery
compartment, turn the scale upside down and open the battery compartment
door When installing the new set of batteries, be sure the batteries are oriented
properly

Display Pushbuttons
The Model DS4050 controls consist of ON/TARE, LB/KG and RECALL buttons
The display is used to provide weight indications and operator messages
indicating scale operation
ON/TARE
Press the ON/TARE button to turn on the scale The scale has an Automatic
Shutoff Timer that will power down the indicator after 5 minutes
The ON/TARE button can be held to turn off the scale
When the ON/TARE button is pressed while the scale is on, the display will be
reset to zero weight This feature can be used to zero out any weight not desired
to be part of the patient weight
LB/KG
Press the LB/KG button to switch the displayed weight units between pound-
ounce and kilograms
RE ALL
Displays the last patient weight The last weight is available as long as the scale
remains on but is replaced with next patient weight when next used It is also
cleared when the scale powers off

Display Annunciators
The display annunciators will indicate the scale status
zero
Indicates that the scale has an accurate zero reading
M
Indicates a weight is now held in memory The RECALL button can now be used
to display this value after the patient has been removed from the scale Weights
below 2lb 0 3oz will not be held in memory

Indicates a stable weight has been achieved

Indicates that the scale is displaying weight in pounds and ounces

Indicates that the scale is displaying weight in kilograms

Weighing a Patient
1 Press ON/TARE The scale will turn on and display a zero weight
2 Place the patient on the scale
3 When a stable weight is reached the

weight has been saved to memory
4 Record the patient’s weight and remove the patient from the scale The
RECALL button can then be used to display the last weight
5 The scale will automatically turn off after 5 minutes or the ON/TARE button
can be held to turn off the scale
Zero Operation
1 Place the item to be zeroed on the scale platform
2 Press ON/TARE The scale will turn on and display a zero weight If the item
is removed, a negative weight will be displayed
Note: Each time the scale is powered up, the zero point is reset.
3 Place the patient on the scale and the patient’s weight, less the item’s weight,
will be displayed
OR
1 With the scale on, press ON/TARE
2 The display will zero when the scale stablizes
RE ALL Operation
With the patent off the scale, press the RECALL button to display the last
patient’s weight Only weights of 2lb 3 0oz or higher will be held in memory

Section 3. Scale alibration
WARNING: Your scale is factory calibrated and does not require calibration when
received. If required, it should only be calibrated by a scale technician with
certified and inspected weights.
1 Turn off the scale and remove all weight
2 Press and hold the LB/KG button and then press and hold the ON/TARE button
3 When AL is displayed, release both buttons
4 Numbers will be displayed
5 Press the ON/TARE button
6 The number 20 will flash on the display
7 Add 20 lbs to the scale and press the ON/TARE button
8 The number 40 will flash on the display
9 Add an additional 20 lbs (total of 40 lbs now on the scale) and press the
ON/TARE button
10 After calibration is accepted, the scale will automatically turn off
11 Remove all weight from the scale and press the ON/TARE button to turn on
The scale is now ready for use

• Ensure the scale is on a flat and level surface
• Ensure that all four feet are in contact with the surface
• Do not place on carpet
• Ensure the scale is free from vibration and air currents
• Remove any weight from the scale prior to calibration
• Ensure that the batteries are not low
• Ensure that the scale is not in contact with surrounding objects
• Use certified (calibrated) weights
• Place weights in the center of the scale during calibration

Limited One Year Warranty
Doran Scales, Inc warrants Model DS4050 to be free from defects in material and
workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of shipment Any product found to
be defective within this time period may be returned to Doran’s factory, freight prepaid,
with prior return authorization and proof of purchase showing date of original sale, for
repair or replacement at no charge
Doran’s liability under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the
defective product and in no event shall Doran Scales, Inc be liable for consequential or
indirect damages to equipment or personnel Nor shall Doran Scales, Inc be liable for
damages to equipment or for personal injury caused by misuse, overload, accidental
damage, alteration, improper installation, or unauthorized opening of the equipment
Under no circumstances will Doran Scales, Inc be responsible for any indirect or
consequential damages due to errors in weighing or failure of a Doran Scales, Inc
product to perform properly
THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR
