TKP: Resetting a NetGuardian 216 G3 to Factory Defaults
If you can't remember your passwords to access a NetGuardian 216 G3,
and have no other means to access the unit, you can manually reset the
unit to factory settings.
Note: If you have a G1 series NetGuardian 216 or 480, see This TKP.
This techno knowledge paper can help you if:
•You cannot access your NetGuardian 216 G3 due to a forgotten
username/password.
•You have physical access to the NetGuardian
Note: This process will set your NetGuardian back to factory defaults, erasing its alarm database. Do
not proceed if you don't wish to restore your NetGuardian to factory defaults.

Troubleshooting Checklist
Connect to the 216's TTY Interface via the Front Craft Port.
oStart a Hyperterminal Session using the following settings:
9600 baud
8
N

The NetGuardian 216 G3's Ack Button (Circled)
Once you've established the HyperTerminal connection, Press and Hold the "Ack"
button on the front of the NetGuardian
oAfter a period of 10-20 seconds, you will access the unit's main menu.
Holding the "Ack" button will manually log you in to the 216's main TTY menu
Initializing the Unit
oPress C, then Vto access the n(V)ram Initialize option.
oPress Ito Initialize the unit.
oThe unit will prompt you to confirm your selection. Type yto confirm.
Note: Initializing your unit will put it back to factory settings. If you do not have your unit's database
backed up, you will have to manually re-database the unit.
Initializing the NetGuardian will restore all settings to their factory defaults
Log in to the TTY Interface.
oThe default username is admin
oThe default password is dpstelecom.

oFrom here, you can re enter your Ethernet, Subnet, and Gateway information to make
the unit accessible via LAN.
oReboot the unit.
You should now be able to login to your NetGuardian 216 G3's web interface using the IP address
you've set in the previous step, admin for the username, and dpstelecom for the password. From the
web interface, you can reconfigure the unit and re-database your alarm points.
