1. INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this product. These instructions for use should be read carefully
and understood before operating the Powerstroll. Improper use or unfamiliarity with the
Powerstroll may result in harm, injury or trac accidents. A maintenance schedule is also
included at the back. Keep this manual with the Powerstroll, or in a safe place.
Contact Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd. or check our website for the latest version of
this document. Users with visual, reading or cognitive disabilities should seek advice
from a professional care provider for an appropriate format. If this is not viable, users
should contact Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd. If you have any questions concerning the

Any serious incident that has occurred in relation to the device should
be reported to the manufacturer and the MHRA or competent authority of your Member
State. Please quote the product serial code on all correspondence.

3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
3.1 Environment
The Powerstroll can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments where
appropriate. The Powerstroll can be used on flat, even path surfaces, however
the user should avoid grass, gravel and gradients greater than 6°, if possible.
Additional care should be taken to avoid inclement weather and wet surfaces.
3.2 Intended User Group
The Powerstroll has a maximum weight capacity of 115kg (18st) which includes
the weight of the wheelchair and user. The intended user group for this device
is any mobility restricted individual that requires assistance with transport.
The wheelchair attendant is the only intended operator. Users must be both
mentally and physically capable of operating the device with minimal risk of
injury to themselves and others.
3.3 Intended Use
The intended use of the Powerstroll is to transport an end user with restricted
mobility, as defined in section 3.2.
The Powerstroll is designed as an aid to a wheelchair attendant providing power
to aid pushing in otherwise strenuous situations such as up slopes, hills, etc.
3.4 Indications
To provide transport mobility to an end user with restricted mobility.
3.5 Product Overview
The Powerstroll has been designed to provide a comfortable and secure
solution for users who have mobility restrictions. The product is a class I medical
device (under EN 12184:2014), and fits to a wheelchair to convert it in to a class
2 invalid carriage under The Use of Invalid Carriages on Highways Regulations
1988. For specific guidance with outdoor use, see section 9.6.
This manual is composed from the product design and specifications at the time
of publication. As designs change, some illustrations and pictures in the manual
may not correspond to the Powerstroll that you purchased. We reserve the right
to make design modifications.

4. SAFETY
4.1 Warnings & Cautions
Warnings in this user manual highlight potential hazards that if
disregarded could lead to injury or death.

4.2 Risk Assessment
Before using the Powerstroll, a risk assessment must be performed by a
competent individual to ensure the safe use of the Powerstroll on a user-by-
user basis. It is the responsibility of users and carers to determine that they
are both mentally and physically capable of operating the Powerstroll with
minimal risk of injury to themselves or others.
The risk assessment should include, but not be limited to:
• Entrapment
• Falling out of the wheelchair
• Small adults (and children)
• Individuals who lack capacity to operate the Powerstroll
• Users with visual, reading or cognitive disabilities
• Very active occupants
• Unauthorised people with access to the Powerstroll

4.3 Contraindications
• The end user exceeds maximum weight capacity indicated in section 4.4
• Inability to safely guide a power mobility device
Other contraindications may be relevant which are specific to an individual
and / or care environment.

4.4 Powerstroll Loading
The maximum weight capacity of the Powerstroll is: 115kg (18st)
Maximum weight capacity is the sum of the user mass, the wheelchair and
any ancillary attachments or accessories. Exceeding the maximum weight
capacity will void your warranty. Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd. will not be
held responsible for injury and / or damages resulting from failure to observe
weight capacities.
• The maximum load is for the Powerstroll to be occupied
by one person only. Additional weight could damage
components or destabilise the Powerstroll, potentially
causing injury.
• The Powerstroll may only be used to transport one person
at a time.
• The Powerstroll is not a toy. Children should not be allowed
to play near or operate the Powerstroll, as they are at risk of
harm.

4.5 Training
All individuals operating the Powerstroll are to be suitably familiar with the
functionality and limitations prior to use. It is the responsibility of the user to
ensure they are suitably trained to use the Powerstroll and any associated
parts safely and correctly. Every eort should be made to resolve deficiencies
and should include consideration of retraining, falls prevention and equipment
alterations and modifications.
If these instructions for use are not deemed sucient and the need for training
is required, please contact Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd. (see section 2) who
can discuss training options with you.

• Do not use a damaged or badly worn Powerstroll — risk of
harm.
• Check the functionality of the Powerstroll before every use,
using the method listed in section 8.3. Check the current
fastest speed setting is appropriate. (It is recommended to
use a slower speed setting at the beginning of every use,
gradually increasing the speed setting as appropriate.)
• Do not use the Powerstroll in rain, ice or snow conditions.
Such exposure can damage the Powerstroll and put the
user at risk. If exposed to moisture, do not operate the
Powerstroll until it has dried thoroughly.
• Do not drive on tall grass or loose surfaces, such as gravel
or sand, or in muddy conditions.
• Reduced speed and care should be taken when navigating
obstacles.
• Do not attempt to navigate on slopes greater than 6°.
• If unintended movement of the Powerstroll occurs, release
the trigger to automatically stop the Powerstroll. Do not
use the power switch to stop your Powerstroll unless an
emergency requires the powering down of the Powerstroll.
• The Powerstroll has a weight capacity of 115kg (18st);
overloading will cause overheating and excessive battery
drain.
• Do not touch any exposed contacts or connectors while
using the product or while in contact with other individuals.
• Misused electrical equipment can be hazardous.
• Do not operate the Powerstroll while under the influence of
alcohol or when excessively tired.
• Only approved parts, specified for the Powerstroll, should
be used. Accessories that have not been approved or
designed for use with the Powerstroll are not to be used —
a hazard could be introduced due to product combination
incompatibility. If in doubt, contact Drive DeVilbiss
Healthcare Ltd.
• Modification of the Powerstroll, its parts or features is
not allowed without the permission of Drive DeVilbiss
Healthcare Ltd. — a hazard could be introduced.
• The Powerstroll must not be used solely by the wheelchair
user, under any circumstances. It must only be attendant
operated.
4.6 General Warnings

• The Powerstroll is electrically operated, so should not
be used in oxygen-rich environments, in the presence of
flammable gases, sources of heat or naked flames — risk of
explosion / fire. Damaged or worn upholstery increases the
risk of fire hazard and should be replaced immediately.
• Individuals unable to drive the Powerstroll without
assistance or supervision must not use the Powerstroll
without such supervision. Unsupervised use of the
Powerstroll must be avoided if there is any doubt about the
ability of an individual to operate it safely.
• If children, adults with learning diculties or pets pose a
potential risk of tampering with the Powerstroll, its suitability
for use is to be considered during the initial user / product
risk assessment.
• When connecting / disconnecting the battery from the
motor or the charger make sure both the power to the
charger and Powerstroll handcontrol are switched o.
• Only operate the Powerstroll at a speed that is comfortable
to both the operator and wheelchair user.
• Ensure the Powerstroll is secured in transit. It is
recommended that the battery is disconnected.
Warning
Note: Wheelchairs fitted with attendant cable brakes.
• On such wheelchairs, the attendant brake levers should be
removed prior to fitting the Powerstroll to the wheelchair.
If the attendant brakes do not have a separate parking
brake facility, then parking brakes should be added to the
wheelchair.

5. TRANSPORT & STORAGE
Environmental conditions for transport and storage:
Ambient temperature: 0°C to +40°C
Follow these conditions when transporting or storing the Powerstroll:
• The power switch should be turned o.
• Always fully charge, then remove the battery prior to long-term storage to
ensure maximum battery eciency.
• The Powerstroll should be stored in clean and dry conditions. Cover to
protect from fluid ingress, dirt, dust etc.
• Powerstrolls should not be stored on their side, on their backs, or stacked.
• When transporting Powerstrolls by vehicle, they should be securely
stowed in the back of a van, truck, or boot of a car. Adjustable parts
should be removed or properly secured during transport.
• Keep the instructions for use with the Powerstroll or in a safe place.
Note: This vehicle is suitable for land and air transport, but contact your carrier
in advance to determine their specific requirements. The battery pack contains
one 12V battery. The battery is a sealed lead acid type and is maintenance free
and non-spillable. It is fitted with a 2-way connector.
The battery requires charging every week to ensure battery longevity.
The battery is supplied as standard with the battery pack and classified as safe
for air transport under IATA special provision A67.
• Infrequently charged batteries, or batteries stored without a
full charge are susceptible to permanent damage, causing
unreliable performance from your Powerstroll.
• Avoid placing the Powerstroll in direct sunlight — this could
damage the electrical system and / or cause label fading.
• Clean the Powerstroll in line with section 10 prior to storage.

5.1 Disassembly
• Switch the Powerstroll o.
• Disconnect the connector from the underside of the handset.
• Remove the lift-up strap from the push handle.
• Disconnect the red and black connector between the Powerstroll and the
battery pack. Lift o the battery pack.
• Slacken the tightening handles and tristar knob, to allow the telescopic bar
to be slid inwards and removed.

8. CHARGING & PREPARING FOR USE
8.1 Installation
• Before preparing the Powerstroll, ensure these instructions
have been read and fully understood.
• Prepare the Powerstroll in a dry, indoor environment.
• Only competent persons are to prepare the Powerstroll for
use. If in doubt, contact Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.
• Ensure a risk assessment in line with local health and safety
policy is undertaken to ensure that sta are not put at risk
when performing assembly activities.
Warning
Handset Installation
• Loosen both knobs on the
handset.
• Squeeze the crocodile clip on
the handset and apply to the
push handle as shown. Secure
the clip by turning the outer knob
clockwise.
• Tilt the handset to the required
angle then tighten the inner knob
clockwise to secure.
Bracket Installation
• Install both brackets on the bottom
horizontal tubing of the wheelchair,
using a 5mm Allen Key (as shown
right)
• Ensure that the screws are
suciently tight and that the
brackets do not rotate on the
tubing. Ensure that the holes on
each bracket are horizontal and
that the brackets are aligned with
each other.

Powerpack Installation
Feed the telescopic bar through the front
end of the powerpack. Slacken the tristar
knob on the bar and insert one end of the
bar in to the bracket on one side of the
wheelchair (as shown right).
Position the powerpack centrally
between the wheelchair. Tighten the
tristar knob and the two tightening
handles, to secure the installation.
Slide the telescopic section out until the
other end of the bar locates fully in the
hole of the bracket on the opposite side
of the wheelchair.
Handset Connection
Connect the cable from the
powerpack into the connector on
the underneath of the handset.
Lift-up Strap Installation
Place the top loop of the lift-up
strap around the opposite push
handle to the handset.
Battery Pack Installation
Place the battery pack into the tray on top of
the powerpack, ensuring the pack handle is on
the left hand side of the powerpack (as shown
above)
Connect the red and black connector on the
battery pack to the red and black connector on
the powerpack (as shown right)

8.2 Battery Charging
• Do not open the battery.
• Do not connect an extension cord to the battery charger.
• Keep metal objects away from the battery terminals; electric
shock may occur.
• Ensure the charging cable is not under excessive tension
to avoid cable damage — damaged cables can create an
electrocution / fire risk.
• Ensure the battery is not exposed to direct sunlight or a
secondary heat source — direct heating of the battery via an
external source could pose a fire risk or cause an explosion.
• When connecting / disconnecting the battery from the
motor or the charger make sure both the power to the
charger and Powerstroll handcontrol are switched o.
Warning
• Only charge the Powerstroll with the approved charger.
• Never charge the Powerstroll using a dierent charger.
• Charge fully before each use.

Battery charging and care
• Switch o the Powerstroll on the handset.
• Disconnect the red and black connector on battery pack from the red and
black connector on the powerpack (see image below). Lift the battery pack o
the battery tray using the handle.
• Plug the charger’s power cord into the mains.
• Plug the charger’s red and black connector into the red and black connector
from the battery pack
• Switch on the mains power.
• The charger’s LED will illuminate orange to indicate the batteries are charging.
The charging duration is about 8 hours. To ensure optimum performance a 12-
hour charge is recommended.
• The orange LED will turn green when charging is complete, but it is
recommended that you leave the battery on charge for a couple of hours after
the green LED has lit, to maintain the battery performance, (When no battery is
connected, the charger's LED will be red).
8.3 Checking Before Use
It is important to check the functionality of the Powerstroll before the initial use
to ensure its safe operation.
• Check that the Powerstroll is securely fixed to the wheelchair and that both
drive wheels are on the ground.
• Check that the Powerstroll drives the wheelchair in a straight line.
• Release the throttle control after moving in any direction. The throttle
control should immediately return to the neutral position and the Powerstroll
should come to a stop.
• When charging is completed, switch
o the mains and unplug the charger.
Disconnect the battery pack from the
charger.

9. OPERATION OF THE POWERSTROLL
9.1 Operational Limits

9.2 Powerstroll Controls
Please refer to the diagram below to identify your Powerstroll controls and
their functions. Familiarise yourself with the terminology to better understand
references throughout these instructions.
Make sure the Powerstroll functions work correctly before
operating, using the checklist in section 8.3 for guidance.

Power/Direction Switch
To allow the Powerstroll to move forward press the front of the button (marked
“I”).
To allow the Powerstroll to move backwards press the rear of the button
(marked “II”).
To switch o the Powerstroll press the button so the switch is in the middle
position (marked “0”).
Please note there is a 2-second delay when starting up the Powerstroll before
the wheel will move. Wait 2 seconds before squeezing the trigger.
Always ensure the Powerstroll is switched o when not in use.
• Do not turn the power o whilst moving as this will lead to
an emergency stop and possible risk of damage or injury.
• When at rest, power down your Powerstroll to prevent
unintended motion.
Warning
Throttle lever
Squeeze the trigger to propel the Powerstroll. The more the trigger is
squeezed, the faster the Powerstroll will travel. Release the trigger to stop the
Powerstroll.
Speed Adjustment Dial
Turn the dial clockwise to increase the maximum speed of the Powerstroll.
Turn the dial anticlockwise to reduce the Powerstroll’s maximum speed.
Power Indicator LED
This is lit green when the Powerstroll is switched on.
Tightening Handles
The right-hand is used to secure the clamp holding the handset to the push
handle. The left-hand secures the handset at the required angle.
Do not adjust the speed settings whilst moving as this could
result in loss of control. Do not set the highest speed whilst
moving indoors.

9.3 Using the Powerstroll
You must exercise awareness, caution, care, and common sense when operating
your Powerstroll. Always keep in mind your own limitations and substance use.
Users may encounter dicult manoeuvring situations such as narrow doorways,
travelling up and down ramps, cornering, and travelling on uneven terrain.
Be sure to lower the speed, take your time, and carefully manoeuvre the
Powerstroll.
To push the wheelchair, without using the Powerstroll, attach the Lift-up Strap to
the handgrip and use it to lift the Powerstroll wheels o the ground.
Note: This will increase the risk of the wheelchair tipping backwards, when the
user vacates the wheelchair.
Warning
• Never use your Powerstroll while tired, smoking, under the
influence of alcohol or other mind-altering substances. Be
aware of precautions, warnings, and safety issues when taking
prescribed or over-the-counter drugs before operating.
• If there is a history of active seizures in the last 6 months,
clearance should be obtained from a neurologist that the
patient's seizures do not prohibit safe use of a motorised device.
• When operating the Powerstroll, the wheelchair occupant is
expected to be positioned appropriately in the seat, with limbs
clear of moving parts to prevent entrapment. Ensure that the
occupant doesn't reach, lean or bend when the wheelchair is
moving.
• Always make sure the power is o before getting in or out of the
wheelchair.
• Carers should keep clear once the Powerstroll is powered on. Do
not operate the controls while anyone is entering or leaving the
wheelchair – a hazard may be introduced.
• Do not let children play near or operate the Powerstroll.
• When walking behind the wheelchair, ensure that you do not kick
the Powerstroll.
• Keep your hands and feet away from moving parts while moving.
Be aware of loose-fitting clothes that can become caught in the
drive wheels.
• Always reduce your speed and maintain a stable centre of
gravity when turning corners.
Always check the Powerstroll is free of obstructions before use.
Caution

• Never attempt to navigate your Powerstroll over a kerb
or other fixed obstacle taller than the maximum ground
clearance. Refer to section 14 for this information.
• Never attempt to navigate your Powerstroll backwards over
an obstacle. Make sure that there are no steps, kerbs or other
obstacles behind you while reversing – tipping / falling risk.
• Never attempt to operate your Powerstroll on steps or
escalators.

9.4 Steps, Kerbs & Fixed Obstacles
Use extreme caution when operating your Powerstroll near kerbs, porches,
stairs, escalators, drop-os, unprotected ledges, and raised areas. Approach
slowly, and make sure the front of the wheelchair with Powerstroll attached
is perpendicular to the obstacle.
To manoeuvre up a fixed obstacle – Increase the forward speed until the
Powerstroll has cleared the obstacle, and then you may reduce the speed.
To manoeuvre down a fixed obstacle – Reduce the forward speed just before
the front wheels come in contact with the obstacle and remain at the reduced
speed until Powerstroll has cleared the obstacle, then you may increase the
forward speed.
