Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in the
European Union
This symbol on the product and package indicates that this product
must not be disposed with unsorted municipal waste. Instead, it is
your responsibility to dispose of WEEE by handing it over to a
designated collection point for the disposal. The separate collection
and recycling of waste equipment will help conserve natural
resources and ensure that it is disposed in a manner that protects
human health and the environment. For more information about
where you can drop off your waste equipment for disposal, please
contact your local municipal office, waste disposal service or where
you purchased the product.
Components
The Cadex Duro charger package includes these items:
1 Duro Charger
1 or 5 Adapters with screws. The screws are taped inside
the adapter screw hole (see installation instructions below)
1 User’s Guide
1 External AC Power Supply
1 AC Power Cord (North American Plug)
The power cord is the disconnect device. The
power outlet to which the Duro charger is
connected must be accessible at all times.
For permanently installed equipment, (for
example, installing the charger in a vehicle),
a readily accessible disconnect device must
be incorporated into the wiring.
Installing Adapters
1. Match the software configuration file name printed on a
label on the under-side of the charger with the software
configuration file name printed on a label on the underside
of the adapter. If the names do not match, please contact
your representative to obtain the correct adapters.
2. For larger adapters (figure 1), connect the ribbon cable
from the adapter to the socket. Then insert the adapter into
the socket.
3. Remove the tape covering the screw hole.
4. Small adapters (figure 2) do not have a ribbon cable:
insert the adapter into the charger socket. The adapter
slides into socket in one direction. If the adapter does not
fit, turn it around and reinsert it. DO NOT FORCE THE
ADAPTER IN.
5.Insert the screw(s) and tighten with a screwdriver. DO
NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
Figure 1: For large adapters,
first connect the ribbon
cable and then insert the
adapter.
Figure 2: For small
adapters, insert the adapter
into the socket.
Operation
1. Adapters are color-coded. The text Ni or Li may be
marked each adapter.
Li-Ion (Li) Blue Label
NiCd & NiMH (Ni) Green Label
Tri-Chemistry (NiCd,
NiMH and Li-Ion)
Silver Label
NOTICE: Attempting to charge a battery with
the wrong adapter can lead to an incomplete
charge, battery damage, fire or explosion.
Do NOT service a Li-Ion battery in an adapter
with a Green label or if it is marked Ni.
Do NOT service a NiCd or NiMH battery in an
adapter with a Blue label or if it is marked Li.
2. Plug the DC output cord from the power supply into the
back of the charger and the power cord into the wall
outlet.
3. All lights will flash briefly when power is first applied to
the Duro charger.
4. If is flashing with no battery installed, then an
incorrect adapter has been installed in this station (ie. A
high voltage adapter has been inserted into a low
voltage unit or a low voltage adapter has been inserted
into a high voltage unit). Please contact your
representative to obtain the correct adapter.
5. Insert a battery. The Duro charger will automatically
detect the presence of a battery and begin charging.
6. If a Li-Ion battery is not detected on the charger, leave
it on the charger for a few minutes. The charger will
apply a ‘Boost’ pulse for several minutes in order to
wake it up.

7. For Duro B5 only: The two left bays will condition a
battery. Insert battery in bay 1 or bay 2, press
within 10 seconds to start conditioning. Conditioning
will discharge and charge a battery.
8. For Duro B5 Only: If the charger is configured to
SMBus, the indicator will flash if the battery Max
Error register is ≥4%. Press the Condition button within
10 seconds to start the conditioning process.
9. Each charger is equipped with status indicators for each
bay.
10.After a battery has completed service, the Duro charger
monitors the battery to ensure it stays fully charged. If
battery voltage drops, the Duro automatically restarts
the charge.
Temperature Management
If battery temperature is below 0°C for NiCd & NiMH (or 5°C
for Li-Ion), no charge is applied. Charging resumes when
battery respectively warms up or cools down. If a battery
does not warm up or cool down within 8 hours, the charger
will fail the battery (solid red indicator). If a NiCd or NiMH
battery reaches 50°C during charge, the Ready indicator will
be set and battery is ready for use. If a Li-ion battery
reaches 50°C during charge, the charger will fail the battery
(will be solid red).
Indicator Explanation
Charge complete; Battery ready for use
Battery Charging
Solid Red: Charge aborted. Battery has
failed.
Flashing Red with no battery installed: an
incorrect adapter has been installed in this
station. Please contact your representative
to obtain the correct adapter.
Indicators for Duro B5 bays 1 and 2 only
Battery is conditioning
Alternating Red and Green: battery is
being conditioned.
Flashing Red (for Duro B5 configured
to read SMBus only): SMBus battery is
installed and its Max Error register is ≥4%.
Press within 10 seconds to condition
the battery.
Vehicle Mounting (Duro A1 and B1 only)
The Duro A1 and B1 can be installed in a vehicle to service
3.6V and 7.2V batteries. Optional mounting brackets are
available. A Cigarette lighter cable is required. For
permanent installations, a readily accessible disconnect
device must be incorporated into the wiring.
Maintenance
The Duro Charger has been constructed from quality
materials and is designed to be maintenance-free.
- Clean only with dry or slightly damp lint-free cloth.
- Do not block ventilation slots.
- Keep away from moisture.
- Do not remove the cover. The charger has no internal
user-serviceable parts.
