1. NOTES
1.1 CE - Labelling
This appliance carries the CE-Symbol of
conforwithy. This symbol of conforwithy
guarantees that this appliance conforms to
the relevant safety guidelines of the European
Union.
1.2 Guidelines
This appliance conforms to the following
safety guidelines:
• Machine guidelines 98/37/EG, with amend-
ments.
• Electro-magnetic Compatibility 89/336/
EWG, with amendments.
• Low-voltage guidelines 73/23/EWG, with
amendments.
• Pressure vessel guidelines 87/404/EWG.
1.3 General Notes
• These Installation and Operating Instructions
form an integral part of the unit. They must be
kept close to the unit and in readiness
whenever required. Precise observance of
these instructions is a pre-condition for use of
the unit for the intended purpose and for its
correct operation.
These Installation and Operating Instructions
should be handed over to subsequent users
of this appliance.
• Safety for the operator as well as trouble-
free operation of the unit are only ensured if
use is made of original equipment parts.
Moreover, use may only be made of those
accessories that are specified in the
technical documentation or that have been
expressly approved and released by Dürr
Dental for the intended purpose.
Dürr Dental cannot guarantee for the safety
or proper functioning of this unit in the case
where parts or accessories are used which
are not supplied by Dürr Dental. All claims
arising from damage caused by non-
authorized parts are inadmissible.
• Dürr Dental are legally responsible for the
equipment with regard to safety, reliability
and proper functioning only where assembly,
resettings, changes or modifications,
extensions and repairs have been carried out
by Dürr Dental or an agency authorized by
Dürr Dental and where such equipment is
used in conforwithy with the Installation and
Operating Instructions.
• The Power Tower Silence has been produced
according to all current safety and technical
standards. Any parts mentioned, e.g.
switches, processes, trade marks, software
programs or other appliances are protected
by copyright.
• Any reprinting of the technical documentation,
in whole or in part, is subject to prior approval
of Dürr Dental being given in writing.
1.4 General Safety Notes
This PTS 195 has been designed and
constructed by Dürr Dental so that correct
usage of the appliance is virtually free of any
possible injury or danger. In spite of this, we
feel it is our duty to mention the following
safety measures in order to prevent any
possible danger.
• When using the PTS 195 all local and
relevant regulations must be observed!
Converting or modifying the appliance in
any way is strictly prohibited. In such
cases, the any and all guarantees are
immediately invalid. The operation of
modified appliances is punishable by law.
In the interests of trouble-free operation the
operator is responsible for observing these
regulations.
• Retain the packaging for possible return of
the product to the manufacturers. Ensure
that the packaging is kept out of the reach
of children. Only the original packaging
provides adequate protection during
transport of the unit.
Should return of the product to the manu-
facturers be necessary during the guarantee
period, Dürr Dental accepts no responsibility
for damage occurring during transport where
the original packaging was not used!

• Before every use the operator must check
the functional safety and the condition of
the appliance.
• The operator must be knowledgeable in the
operation of the appliance.
• The product is not designed to be used in
medical treatment areas where there exists
the danger of explosion. Areas where
explosions could occur are those where
flammable anesthetic material, skin
cleansers, oxygen and skin disinfectants
are used. This appliance is not to be used
in areas where the atmosphere could cause
fire.
1.5 Electrical Safety Notes
• The PTS 195 may only be connected to a
fixed power outlet connected to the mains
supply.
• Before connecting the appliance to the
power supply check that the electrical
current and the frequency of the device as
described on the appliance are compatible
with that of the power supply.
• Check the appliance and the power supply
cables for possible damage before switching
on. Damaged cables, plugs and sockets
must be replaced before use.
• In danger situations or in cases of technical
defect immediately separate from the power
supply (unplug).
• In cases of repairs and/or maintenance the
PTS 195 must be disconnected from the
mains supply. Simply turning off the
appliance switch (a) to O is insufficient. See
section 5 Functional Description. A certain
amount of current is present at certain
points (e.g. switch (56), see fig. 34). In
addition, bleed all pressure hoses and
empty tanks.

2. PRODUCT INFORMATION
2.1 Correct Usage
The PTS 195 is designed for providing
compressed air and vacuum for dental units
or similar applications, and according to
model for amalgam separation.
Correct usage implies the observance of the
operating instructions as well as installation,
operating and maintenance procedures.
2.2 Use Other Than for the Intended
Purpose
The compressed air provided by
this unit is not suitable for use in
breathing apparatus or similar
facilities without the addition of
special filters, such as those
required in surgical areas.
The vacuum produced by the PTS is
not suitable for the extraction of
explosive gases.
Any other use or use beyond what is specified
is deemed to be not for the intended purpose.
The manufacturer accepts no liability for
damage resulting therefrom. All risk is borne
solely by the user.
2.3 Product Description
The PTS provides oil-free, dry and filtered
pressurized air and vacuum, for operating
dental equipment in use at several medical
treatment stations.

5. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
Detailed descriptions of the functions
of the individual units can be found in
the appropriate installation and
operating instructions.

5.1 Compressor power unit
The compressor power unit starts up auto-
matically when the pressure in the vessel
reaches 5.5 bar and is switched off at 7.5
bar.
Atmospheric air is sucked into the cylinder via
the suction filter and the inlet valve.
The air is then compressed, oil-free, via the
piston in the cylinder and fed to the dry air
system.
5.2 Dry Air System
This damp, compressed and warmed air is
cooled, dried and filtered in the dry air
system. The relative humidity in the tank is,
thereby, maintained at under 30%.
5.3 Suction Unit
The suction unit can be started for example
by removing the hose from the hose manifold
or via spittoon valve.
This then creates a vacuum that, depending
on suction unit model, can provide up to 5
treatment stations (at an equalization rate of
60%) with 300 - 350 l/min of compressed air
to the main canula.
5.4 Amalgam separator
The amalgam separator is connected to the
drainage connection of the suction system.
This has the function of cleaning the amalgam
from the waste water coming from the suction
machine and collecting this amalgam in the
collector provided.

6. STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
REQUIREMENTS
The PTS is delivered in sections due to its
weight.
The PTS is packed in cartons for transport.
This prevents any damage to the appliance
during transport. Always use the original
packing for the machine wherever possible.
<Achtung> Always transport the PTS in an
upright position.
During storage and transport, protect
the appliance at all times from damp,
dirt and extremes of temperature, see
section 4. Technical Specifications
„Temperature“. Take special care to
avoid any electrical parts from
becoming wet.
Retain the original packing if at all
possible. If this is not possible
dispose of the packing in an
environmentally correct way. The
transport carton can be disposed of
as paper waste.
The PTS 195 must be transported in
pressure-free state. Before transport
empty the compressor tank and
bleed the hoses.

7. SET-UP AND
COMMISSIONING
Set-up and commissioning should
only be carried out by an authorized
technician.
7.1 Environmental Requirements
• The appliance should only be installed and
operated in a well-ventilated, dry and dust-
free room.
• The PTS must be installed in a position that
allows the identification plate to be easily
visible at all times and where easy access
for repairs and maintenance is provided.
• The appliance must be placed on a smooth,
flat and stable floor.
(Note PTS weight is approx. 293 kg
depending on model.)
The suction inlet on the PTS must
be free at all times. Ensure that no
objects are allowed to rest on the
surface of the PTS (see Fig. 3).
The power cable and the air hoses
must not be bent or twisted.
• Because of vibration, a minimum distance
of 2 cm must be provided between the
Power Tower and any other surface to to the
side, e.g. cupboard.
About 70% of the compressor power
unit electrical energy is given off as
heat and emitted to the ambient
surroundings.
The fan in the PTS provides efficient cooling
to the internal parts of the PTS. For this to
happen the air intake and output must be
unhindered, see next section, points 2 and 3.
• The room temperature must not be allowed
to fall below 10°C otherwise trouble-free
operation of the PTS cannot be guaranteed.
• The room temperature must not be allowed
to exceed 40°C. If room temperatures
exceed 40°C, additional ventilation must be
provided by installing a fan (see fig. 2). The
optimal ambient temperature range is 10 °C
to 25 °C.
• Installation in special-purpose rooms, e.g.
boiler rooms, must be checked with
building regulations etc. beforehand.
• Installation in any sort of wet room is not
permissible.

8. SUCTION UNIT – SET-UP AND
CONNECTION
8.1 Removal of Transport Safety Clips
• The suction unit should be unpacked and
the clips used for safety during transport,
(1) and (2), must be removed.
8.2 Suction Unit Set-up
When setting up the Power Tower
Silence, allow a distance of approx.
15-20 cm between the rear of the unit
and the wall. This allows access to the
rear of the PTS during installation.
• Set the suction unit on the four adjustible
feet (5) so that the unit is in a vertical
position.
• In order to prevent any bending of the unit
feet, the nuts must be firmly set in place .
8.3 PTS air, suction and drainage
floor connections
• Place the hoses (3), (4) and (6) through the
opening and shorten to the correct length.

8.4 Suction Unit cover conversion
• Loosen the screws on the cover (8)
and remove cover.
Retain the screws for later use.
• Mount the four metal vibration
dampers (9) ready for the power unit
in the centre of the module.

9. COMPRESSOR MODULE SET-
UP
• Place the compressor module on top of the
suction unit and screw loosely into place
using the 16 M5x16 screws (12).
• Slide into place the mounting brackets (13)
on all four sides between the suction unit
and power unit before tightening the M5x16
screws (12).
The mounting brackets (13) must be
positioned to the limit of the M5x16
screws.
• Place the cover (8) back onto the
suction unit.
Do not tighten at this stage.

10. DRY AIR SYSTEM
INSTALLATION
• Place the dry air unit (14) into the place allo-
cated for it in the PTS unit and secure using
the 4 toothed washers and the M4 nuts
supplied, see figs. 13 and 14.
• Pre-install the condensated water drainage
hose (15) into position.

• Attach the prepared condensated water
drainage hose (15) together with ring (16)
and the 2 M4 nuts (17) onto the head of the
dry air unit.
• The condensated water drainage hose must
now be positioned to feed into the collector
(19) supplied and secured.
10.1 Pressure hose between
pressure tank and dry air unit
Take the hose already in position on the head
(22) of dry air unit and secure to pressure
tank.

11. SUCTION HOSES
INSTALLATION
• The gray hose supplied (25) in which either
2 or 4 black hoses (23) are encased
(depending on model of PTS supplied) must
now be connected to the rear of the PTS
using cable ties (24, 26). See figs. 19 and
20.
The hose (25) must be placed so far
down that the compressor power unit
is able to take in cooler air from the
lower part of the PTS. This will avoid
overheating of the unit.
12. AMALGAM SEPARATOR
INSTALLATION
See figs. 17 and 21.
• Place the drainage hose with the black
rubber angle supplied (29) which is found in
the suction unit onto the outlet valve of the
amalgam separator and secure against
slipping using a cable clamp.
• The drainage hose (30) from pressure
reduction pipeline (28) must now be slid
onto the inlet of the amalgam separator and
secure against slipping using a cable
clamp.
• Now secure the ground cable from the
amalgam separator onto the suction unit
console (27).

13. CABLE LAYING –
COMPRESSOR TO SUCTION
UNIT
When laying cables and hoses
inside the PTS be sure to use the
notched cable tie, cable conduits
and openings and observe the
instructions for positioning. This
will ensure that cables and hoses to
not come into contact with hot
surfaces or become damaged due
to vibration.
• Use the notched cable tie (31) for securing
cables, together with the adhesive base
and cabel conduit (32) in the central section
of the PTS.
Pass the cable through the cable tie
(31), cable conduit (32) and openings
(34) and secure (see figs. 22 and 23).
• Now secure the cable to the PCB of the
control unit (27).
- The cable from the suction unit should be
passed through the opening (33) and fixed
to the terminal X7.
- The 3-wire cable from the amalgam
separator should be fixed to the terminal
X8.
• Now secure the cable from the PCB to the
control box.
- The black 5-wire cable from the power
supply should be passed via the cable
retainers (31, 32), through opening (34) and
then through the connection opening of the
PTS (35) to the exterior of the unit.
• The remote display unit cable together with
its connector must be laid from the top of
the PTS (36) to the amalgam separator and
connected.
• The electrical cable (4x1.5mm) from the
hose manifold and spittoon valve must be
passed through the opening in the PTS and
fixed to the terminal X4 on the PCB of
control unit.
All cables should be laid correctly and
secured in place. Superfluous lengths
of cable should be stored in the free
space available in the PTS, for
example, to the right of the amalgam
separator.

14. COMPRESSOR POWER UNIT
14.1 230V/400V Versions -
installation and connection
• Place the power unit onto the rubber
vibration pads already pre-positioned and
secure with washers and nuts.
Place the power unit into the PTS in
such a way that the cable (43) points
to the left.
• Install the compressed air connection
between power unit and the dry air unit
using the compressed air hose (37) (largest
diameter).
• Place the suction hose (38) into the suction
filter on the compressor power unit.
• Place the electrical cable (43) from the
power unit to the PCB of the control unit into
position and secure to terminal X11, see
Figs. 24 and 25.
14.2 400V Version - installation and
connection of second power unit
A second power unit is only provided
in the 400V version of the PTS.
• Position the four vibration pads (42) onto
the power unit.
