Document Scope and Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide instructions and installation
procedures for physically connecting the ioimage Thermal CT-5320F/CT-5640F
fixed cameras. After completing the physical installation, additional setup and
configurations are required before video analysis and detection can commence.
Note:
This document is intended for use by technical users who have a basic
understanding of CCTV camera/video equipment and LAN/WAN
network connections.

Camera Warnings
Warning:
1. Only qualified trained personnel should service and repair this
equipment.
2. Observe local codes and laws and ensure that installation and
operation are in accordance with fire, security and safety
standards.
3. The unit’s cover is an essential part of the product. Do not
open or remove it. Operating the unit without the cover poses
a risk of fire and shock hazards.
4. Do not disassemble the unit or remove screws. There are no
user serviceable parts inside the unit.
5. Operating the camera at voltage levels outside the specified
range may result in permanent damage to the unit and void the
product warranty.
6. The camera electronics and electronic interfaces are sensitive
to electrostatic discharge. Follow appropriate ESD procedures
when handling the camera and during installation.
7. Be sure not to expose the camera head to strong sunlight,
which could cause the camera to overheat.
8. This product must be connected to a Power over Ethernet IEEE
802.af-compliant power source or a UL listed Class 2 power
supply rated 12-24 VDC or 24 VAC, minimum 13W or 0.54A.
9. For PoE installations, we strongly recommend using STP cabling
and an earth grounded end point to ensure proper ESD
immunity. For installations powered by AC or DC, a properly
earth grounded power source is strongly recommended. Any
other installation method may leave the camera at risk and
void the warranty.
10. If you use a power supply, make sure that the connection
matches the positive and negative polarity on the unit, and
protect against static electricity, ground faults and power
surges.

2. Introduction
This document provides information about the ioimage Thermal CT-5320F/
CT-5640F fixed-mount, fixed-focal length thermal camera. The NTSC/PAL camera
system is a hybrid analog/Internet Protocol (IP) networked solution that
conforms to the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF™) Profile S
standard.

Note:
A 24 VAC power source should supply 13W. Be sure that a 12VDC
supply is rated at 2 amps and that a 24VDC supply is rated at 1 amp.

3. Installation and Mounting
The physical installation of the unit is the first phase of making the unit
operational in a security plan. The goal is to physically place the unit, connect it
to other devices in the system, and to establish IP network connectivity.
When finished with the physical installation, refer to the ioimage Thermal
CT-5320F/CT-5640F User and Installation Guide to complete the second phase of
installation, which is the setup and configuration of the unit.
Caution:
To avoid damage from overheating or unit failure, assure that there is
sufficient temperature regulation to support the unit’s
cooling/heating requirements. Operating temperature should be kept
in the range -40° to 60°C (-40° to 140°F), with no more than 95%
non-condensing humidity.

3.1.Preparation
Read the instructions in this chapter thoroughly before installing the camera.
Following are additional considerations for outdoor installation:
Always use weatherproof equipment, such as boxes, receptacles,
connectors, etc.
For electrical wiring, use the properly rated sheathed cables for
conditions to which the cable will be exposed (for example,
moisture, heat, UV, physical requirements, etc.).
Plan ahead to determine where to install infrastructure
weatherproof equipment. Whenever possible, ground components
to an outdoor ground.
Use best security practices to design and maintain secured camera
access, communications infrastructure, tamper-proof outdoor
boxes, etc.
To minimize the effects of EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI
(radio frequency interference), consult your reseller.
3.2.Items Required for Installation That Are Not
Supplied
The following items are required for installation, but are not included in the
package:
Power source (PoE switch, 12-24VDC or 24VAC power supply)
Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cable if using a PoE switch
Cat 5 Ethernet cable for network connection without a PoE switch
Tripod or mounting bracket for mounting the camera
One #2 Phillips head screwdriver
Two open-end, 1-inch (25.4mm) wrenches or adjustable wrenches
One 6-inch (152mm) scale or ruler
Electric or manual torque screwdriver set to 10 inch-pounds
(1.23 Newton meters)

Torx T10 pin-in security bit, 3-1/2” (90mm) in length
Hex wrench
RJ45 connector
RJ45 crimping tool
Coax cable
Coax cable cutter/stripper
BNC connector

3.3.Preparing the Cables
To prepare the camera cabling
Disconnect power from any previously installed cables.
Use a #2 Phillips head screwdriver to pierce a hole in the center of the
cable gland.
If needed, pierce the smaller holes on the outer perimeter of the cable
gland membrane for AC/DC power.
Remove the electric nut from the sealing gland.
Place the O-ring on the threaded end of the cable gland to insure a
good seal.
If using existing cable, cut off the RJ45 or BNC connector.
Feed the cables through the components in the following order:

Four-hole mount adapter, with its flat surface facing the mating
standard four-hole bracket, if required
Base mount (flat side first for base-mounting bracket)
Electrical nut (convex side) of the supplied cable sealing gland
Bottom of the camera body through the back hole below the
connectors
3.4.Inserting Ethernet and Video Cables into the
Camera
The following procedure explains how to insert the Cat 5 Ethernet cable and
analog video coax cable with the sealing gland into the thermal camera.
Recommended video cable components:
RG179BU video coax cable assembly
RJ179 male BNC crimp connector
To insert the cables
Place the nut onto the cables.

Feed the Cat 5 Ethernet cable and video coax cable through the gland
housing. The Ethernet cable goes through the center of the gland
housing. The analog video cable goes through one of the five outer
holes of the gland housing.

Push the gland housing over the cables.
Push the gland rubber into the gland housing.

Tighten the gland nut onto the gland housing. Leave about 3.15” (8cm)
of cable sticking out of the gland housing.

Insert the cables and gland housing into the camera and attach them to
the connectors.

Slide the gland housing chassis nut over the cables. Tighten the gland
housing chassis nut into the camera.

Crimp the other end of the cables in place (not shown).
3.5.Preparing the IP66 Enclosure
To prepare the camera for PoE power connection
Slide the Ethernet cable through the threaded end of the cable sealing
gland with the O-ring installed.
Use a scale to measure approximately 4-1/2” (114mm) of cable slack
from the end of the cable to the rubber grommet of the sealing gland.
Attach one open-end wrench onto the flange of the cable gland.
Using the second open wrench, tighten the compression nut to
approximately 8 in-lbs. (0.9 newton meters) of torque.

Attach an RJ45 connector to the Ethernet cable.
Pull the cables tightly back through the camera, exposing the thread of
the cable sealing gland out of the base of the camera.
Attach the electrical nut back onto the gland.
Tighten the nut securely until it is finger-tight.
Use the hex wrench to tighten the electrical nut to approximately
8 in-lbs. (0.9 newton meters) of torque.

Note:
To ensure a proper earth ground between the camera and a PoE
switch, we strongly recommend using Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)
cabling. Installations of ioimage Thermal cameras with STP cabling
and a properly earth grounded PoE switch are tested to comply with
industry immunity standards for Electro Static Discharge. Any other
installation method may leave the camera at risk and void the
warranty.

To prepare the camera for AC/DC power connections
Attach the male AC or DC five-pin terminal block connector to the AC
or DC power cables.

Insert the male connector into the female connector on the back of the
camera housing.

Pull the cables tightly back through the camera, exposing the thread of
the cable sealing gland out of the base of the camera.
Attach the electrical nut back onto the gland.
Tighten the nut securely until it is finger-tight.
Use the hex wrench to tighten the electrical nut to approximately
8 in-lbs. (0.9 newton meters) of torque.

3.6.Attaching the Camera to an Analog Device
In order to prevent video signal distortion, the supplied ground loop isolator must
be installed between the analog out connector on each camera and an attached
analog device if:
You are connecting the camera to an analog device and
You are connecting more than one camera on the network segment

3.7.Assembling the Camera Components
Refer to Package Contents (page 1) for illustrations and a description of the
components mentioned in this section.
To assemble the camera components
Attach the base mount to the camera using 8 of the #6 screws.
Using the electric screwdriver and the Torx T10 security bit, tighten the
8 fasteners to about 10 in-lbs. (0.9 newton meters) of torque.
Using the electric screwdriver and the Torx T10 security bit, tighten the
fasteners to about 10 in-lbs. (1.23 newton meters) of torque.
Connect the cables to the respective connector:
Ethernet port
Analog video out

AC/DC power: Connect the AC or DC male terminal block
connectors to the camera according to the wiring in section 3.5.
If you are powering the camera with an AC supply, insert the
green AC terminal block connector and connect AC+ to the
24VAC input and AC- to the 12VDC input
If you are powering the camera with a DC supply, insert the
white DC terminal block connector and connect DC+ to the
12VDC input and DC- (or ground) to the GND input
Caution:
DO NOT connect an AC supply to a DC connector. This
could damage the unit.
Attention:

Reconnect power to the existing cables.
Check for a steady LED indication on the Ethernet connector to confirm
connection to the IP network. The status LED indicators are:
LED 1: Steady green for 10MB connection or flashing green for
activity.
LED 2: Steady amber for 100MB connection or flashing amber for
activity.
Place the supplied white desiccant into the back cover.
