MICROPHONE SYSTEM WITH BOOM AND STAND
FW430
The small tip on many of our microphones allows them to capture the highest frequencies of
your sound. Please be gentle and considerate when handling the microphones with these tips.
(Microphones such as the SR314 and SR40V shield the tip within their capsule, and are thus
more durable.)
Please do not excessively bend the Flexwand beyond 90 degrees. Doing so on a consistent
basis will cause the wand portion to deteriorate and lose its ability to stay in the desired position.
1 FlexWand™ Stand/Wand Section
1 Microphone Windscreen
1 Base for Stand/Wand Section (either cast iron metal or tripod base depending on
model)
YOUR PURCHASE INCLUDES
Thank you for purchasing the
Earthworks FW430 Microphone System!
Before setting up the microphone, pull back all existing settings and EQ. By doing this, you will have a
baseline understanding of how our microphones sound, and will then be able to adjust accordingly.
Begin by removing all included components from the packaging. Make sure to mute any incoming
signal to speakers or headphones to avoid any loud “pops” when connecting.
When screwing the FW430 in the cast iron base, rst place the cast iron base on the oor. Then, by
holding the stand section, carefully rotate the FlexWand into the threaded hole in the cast iron base
(at least 2 full turns). Next, wrap your hand around the XLR connector section, pick up the combined
FlexWand and base, then spin the base until it is snug. Do not over tighten. Be careful that the
microphone head does not bang into something during this process.
(If you have the FW430TPB, which has a standard tripod base, the setup process will be slightly
different. To assemble the FW430TPB, rst screw the metal sleeve onto the threads on the bottom of
the FlexWand until the metal sleeve is screwed on tight. Then pick up the FlexWand by holding the
stand section or the XLR section and insert the metal sleeve into the hole on the tripod base. Push the
sleeve all the way down and then tighten the setscrew.)
Connect the microphone to an audio interface supplying 24-48V phantom power using a standard
XLR cable. Please allow one minute for the microphone to settle. (Plugging in the microphone while
phantom power is turned on will not damage the microphone, and will actually settle the microphone
faster.)
To guarantee your microphone provides years of performance, follow these guidelines:
• Avoid touching the front protective screen.
• Never attempt to disassemble the microphone.
• Avoid extreme heat and condensing humidity. Allow the microphone to warm up when bringing it
in from the cold.
• Rough handling may damage the microphone even if no markings are visible.
