This symbol gives you useful additional information on assembly or
operation.
The Australian Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) is a single
compliance mark used by suppliers after establishing compliance with
all applicable regulations, including EMC, telecommunications, radio
communications, electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and electrical safety.
Protection class II
Electrical appliances in protection class II are electrical appliances that
permanently have double and/or reinforced insulation and do not
have any connection options for a protective earth. The housing of an
electrical appliance in protection class II that is enclosed in insulated
material can partially or fully act as the additional or reinforced
insulation.
Protection class III
Electrical appliances in protection class III are electrical appliances built
for operation with safety extra-low voltage that have neither internal
nor external electricity circuits which work with a different voltage
other than safety extra-low voltage. The maximum rated voltage for
the safety extra-low voltage between the conductors and between the
conductors and the earth is 42 V. In the case of three-phase alternating
current, the maximum rated voltage between the conductors and
the neutral conductor is 24 V. The maximum off-load voltage must not
exceed 50 V. The safety extra-low voltage may only be supplied via a
safety transformer or a transformer with separate windings.
Indoor use
Appliances with this symbol are only suitable for indoor use.

Polarity symbols
On appliances with barrel connectors, these symbols indicate the
polarity of the plug. There are two variants for the polarity: either the
inner contact is positive and the outer contact is negative (Fig. A) or
the inner contact is negative and the outer contact is positive (Fig. B).

Only use the power adapter supplied.
SSwitched-mode power supply (electrical)
A switched-mode power supply converts an unstable input voltage
into a constant output voltage.
Short-circuit-proof transformer
A transformer where the temperature does not exceed established
limit values when overloaded or short-circuited and which continues
to meet all of the requirements of this standard once the overload or
short circuit has been removed.
Proper use
The vacuum cleaner is used for vacuuming up dry dirt such as
dust, crumbs or fluff from hard floors, carpets and upholstery
indoors or in motor vehicles.
It is not suitable for vacuuming up liquids.
This appliance is intended to be used in private households.
The appliance is not suitable for commercial or industrial use.
Please note that we shall not be liable in case of improper use:
− Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not
use any auxiliary equipment which we have not approved or
supplied.
− Use only spare parts and accessories which we have supplied
or approved.

− Only connect the appliance to a properly installed power point.
The supply voltage must match the technical specifications for
the appliance.
− The power point must be easily accessible so that you can
unplug the appliance from the power quickly if necessary.
− Never use the cord to pull the power plug out of the socket.
− Do not use an extension cord.
− The power adapter may only be used in dry rooms.
− Only use the vacuum cleaner in closed rooms and never expose
the appliance to dripping or splashing water.
− Do not hold the appliance with wet hands while charging the
appliance.
− Check the appliance, power adapter and power cord for
damage before using for the first time and after each use.
− Do not use the appliance, power adapter or power cord if these
show signs of damage.
− Switch off the appliance before cleaning, pull the power
adapter out of the power point and the appliance plug out of
the charging station, if these are plugged in.
− Never immerse the vacuum cleaner in water for cleaning.
− Contact Medion Service immediately if the appliance has been
damaged during transport.
− Do not, under any circumstances, make any unauthorised
modifications to the appliance or try to open a component
and/or repair it yourself.
− A damaged power cord cannot be replaced. If the cord or
power adapter are damaged, the power adapter must be
disposed of and replaced by a power adapter of the same type.
− Make sure the power cord does not come into contact with hot
appliance parts or other heat sources.

Inhaling dust when emptying the dust container can cause harm

− Empty the dust container in the open air directly into a waste

There is a risk of injury or possible damage to the appliance if it is
handled improperly.
− Keep hair and items of clothing away from the suction opening.
− Only use the vacuum cleaner with the filters and dust container
fitted.
− Do not cover the suction and exhaust openings to prevent the
appliance from overheating.
− Always switch off the vacuum cleaner before changing the
accessories, emptying the dust container or cleaning the filters.
− Never use the appliance without filter elements.

− Take particular care when cleaning stairs to avoid a fall.

Use of rechargeable batteries
The appliance contains a lithium ion battery.
WARNING!
Risk of explosion!
Batteries can explode if they are exposed to extreme heat.
− Do not throw the battery into a fire.
− Never expose the battery to excessive heat such as sunlight,
fire, strong artificial light or similar.
NOTICE!
Risk of damage to the battery.
Improper use of the battery can lead to complete destruction of
the battery.
− Avoid strong impacts and vibrations.
− Charge the battery regularly and as fully as possible. Do not
leave the battery discharged for a longer period.
− Contact Service if the appliance can no longer be switched on
despite the battery having been charged (operating light is
blue).
− Use the power adapter provided to charge the vacuum cleaner.
− Do not use chargers that are damaged in any way.
− Keep any fluid that leaks out of a battery away from your eyes
or skin. If battery fluid makes contact with eyes or skin, rinse the
corresponding area with plenty of clear water and immediately
seek medical advice.
− Do not store the vacuum cleaner and charging station in hot,
cold, damp or dirty environments. Extreme environmental
conditions will impair the charging capacity of the battery.
− Do not charge the battery for a longer time if the vacuum
cleaner is not used.

− After a longer period, you might have to charge and discharge
the battery several times to achieve full capacity.

Preparing the appliance
− Remove all packaging material and protective stickers from the appliance and
accessories, especially from the contacts on the rear of the handheld vacuum
cleaner.
− Place the holder 20 in the base 16 until you hear it latch into place.
Charging the battery
You can charge your floor vacuum cleaner with the power adapter and charging
station provided.
− Switch the floor vacuum cleaner off before charging it.
To charge the floor vacuum cleaner, the handheld vacuum cleaner 6
must be latched into the housing of the floor vacuum cleaner.
− Connect the power adapter to the charging station 16 by plugging the hollow
plug into the connecting socket 17 on the bottom of the charging station.
NOTICE!
Risk of damage!
Improperly routing the cord can lead to cord breaks and defects in
the power adapter.
− Guide the cord through the cord duct on the bottom of the
charging station and then to the recess on the rear and then
out of the base.
− Place the floor vacuum cleaner 4with the handheld vacuum cleaner in the
charging station. Make sure the floor vacuum cleaner is upright and that the
latching groove 12 engages in the latching spring 21 of the charging station.
− Connect the power adapter to the socket.
The charge indicator lights red. The charge indicator lights blue as soon as the
battery is fully charged.
− Once fully charged, pull the plug of the power supply unit out of the socket again
and remove the jack plug from the charging station.

Charge the battery for at least 8 hours before using the floor vacuum
cleaner for the first time.
Always charge the battery if the suction power declines significantly.
Neither the floor vacuum cleaner nor the handheld part can be operated
during charging
Using the handheld vacuum cleaner MD 18418 H
− To detach the handheld vacuum cleaner 6from the floor vacuum cleaner 4
, press the unlock buttons 5(Step A) and lift the handheld vacuum cleaner out
of the housing (Step B). Make sure the handheld vacuum cleaner does not fall to
the ground. (Fig. B)
− Make sure the coarse filter 24 and dust filter 23 is fitted snugly in the dust
container 11 and the dust container fits firmly on the motor block. You can
find more information on assembly/disassembly in section “Cleaning the dust
container” on page 18.
− Fit the appropriate vacuum attachment:
• Crevice tool
18 for vacuuming areas that are difficult to reach
• Upholstery brush
19 for cleaning delicate surfaces
− Switch on the handheld vacuum cleaner by pressing the on/off switch 7. The
operating LED lights blue.
− Pressing the on/off switch again switches off the handheld vacuum cleaner.

− Place the handheld vacuum cleaner 6in the floor vacuum cleaner by first
inserting it with the suction opening in the lower part of the housing (Step A) and
then pressing it to the rear into the housing, until the handheld vacuum cleaner
audibly latches into place (Step B). (Fig. C)
Using the floor vacuum cleaner
− Take the vacuum cleaner out of the charging station by positioning it with a
slight forward slope and pulling it out upward. Hold the base with the foot.

− Switch on the floor vacuum cleaner by pressing the on/off switch 1on the
handle. The operating LED in the on/off switch for the handheld vacuum cleaner
7lights blue.
The floor vacuum cleaner starts in economy mode, with reduced suction power
and a longer operating time.
− Press the +/- button to change to normal suction mode.
− Pressing the +/- button again takes you back to economy mode.
− Switch off the floor vacuum cleaner by pressing the on/off switch on the handle
again.
− Place the floor vacuum cleaner back in the charging station by positioning it with
a slight downward slope and inserting it into the charging station.

Risk of electric shock!
Live parts. There is a risk of electric shock/short circuit.
− Switch off the appliance each time before cleaning and pull the
power adapter out of the socket plus the jack plug out of the
charging station.
− Empty the dust container 11 and clean the coarse and dust filter ideally after
each use but no later than when the level of the dust container has reached the
MAX marking. Cleaning the suction openings when required.
− Do not use solvents, corrosive or gaseous cleaning agents for cleaning the

Cleaning the dust container
We recommend cleaning after each use to achieve consistent suction power:
The appliance is switched off.
− Take the handheld vacuum cleaner 6out of the floor vacuum cleaner 4.
− Press the unlock button 10 on the handheld vacuum cleaner.
− Remove the dust container from the motor base.
− Remove the coarse and dust filter along with the dust container by holding its
opening and pulling it out. (Fig. D)

− Empty the dust container into a rubbish bin.
− Clean the coarse and dust filter plus dust container regularly under running
water. It is not necessary to clean with water each time. Do not put the dust
container into a dishwasher!
− Reinsert the filters once the dust container and filters are dry again.
− Place the dust container on the motor base by first placing it on the locking lug
under the motor block and then folding shut until the unlock button audibly
latches into place.
NOTICE!
Risk of damage!
Improperly assembling the filter and dust container can cause
damage to the floor vacuum cleaner.
− Make sure the dust container filters are correctly installed
before use.
Cleaning the suction openings of the floor vacuum
cleaner
Dirt and dust may accumulate around the suction openings of the floor vacuum
cleaner after some time, which may reduce the suction power. To prevent this, the
suction openings should be cleaned at regular intervals.
− Switch the appliance off. Remove the handheld vacuum cleaner from the
housing.
− Remove dirt and dust from the suction openings of the floor vacuum cleaner,
floor tool, suction tube on the floor vacuum cleaner as well as the crevice tool and
upholstery brush.
Cleaning the brush and floor tool
You can remove the brush of the floor tool 13 for cleaning:
− Push the locking bar 15 for the cleaning brush toward the front edge of the
floor tool and remove the bar. (Fig. E)
− Take off the brush, remove coarse fluff and clean the brush under running water.
− After drying, reinsert the brush in the reverse order and secure the locking bar.
− Then reassemble the floor vacuum cleaner as described above.

Storage
Place the appliance back in the charging station after each use so it is always ready for
operation.
− If you wish to store the appliance for a longer period (more than four weeks),
please charge the appliance fully.
− Disconnect it from the power supply after charging.
You can store the appliance for at least three months. You can also fold the handle
forward to save space.
− To do this, press the handle unlocking mechanism 3(Step A).
− Fold the handle of the floor vacuum cleaner 4fully forward. (Step B). (Fig. F)
Troubleshooting
If the appliance malfunctions, please check first whether you can fix the problem
yourself with the help of the following overview.
Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Contact our Service Centre or another
suitably qualified workshop if repairs are necessary.
