2-1 Disassembling gear case

SER ICE HINT
Note: Gear case on cultivator, ProSweep and
ProThatch attachment is the same except for the
worm wheel shaft. The cultivator shaft is round,
where as the shaft of ProSweep and ProThatch is
square.
1. Remove five screws securing gear case halves.
2. Tap gently on worm wheel shaft (A) with plastic
mallet to separate gear halves.
3. Separate shaft assembly from gear case half
then remove oil seals and retaining rings.
4. Remove ball bearings using bearing wedge (B)
897701-06030.
5. Hold worm wheel (C) in a vise and heat up it
with heater, then tap end of worm wheel shaft by
plastic mallet to remove gear from shaft.
6. Remove retaining ring (D) from gear case bore.
7. Pull out gear assembly using puller ( ) 897703-
08930 and spacer with 30mm outer diameter (F) of
bearing tool 897701-14732 as shown
NOTE: Ball bearings should be replaced once
removed from the gear case because they are
distorted from the process of disassembling.
Before heating gear, put on heavy gloves to
protect you from burning.

2-2 Assembling gear case
1. Place washer (A) 900600-00012 around clip (B),
then insert drive gear assembly using tool (C)
897714-06031 until it bottoms. Remove washer (A)
after drive gear assembly is installed.
2. Install retaining ring to the groove of gear case
bore.
3. Insert key (D) in the keyway on worm wheel
shaft.
4. Hold the worm wheel and heat it up with heater,
then insert shaft to worm wheel aligning key(D) to
the key way ( ) on the worm wheel.
5. Tap end of worm wheel shaft by plastic mallet till
worm wheel is centered on the shaft.
6. Place ball bearing (F) on spacer (G) of bearing
tool 897701-14732 and install ball bearing onto
worm wheel shaft as shown.
7. Install retaining rings and oil seals to shaft.
8. Place the bearing ball (H) in roller bearing (I)
and install worm gear into upper gear case.
9. Place shaft assembly into upper gear case half
making sure to locate retaining rings in the slots (J)
on gear case.
10.Fill gear case with about 80 g (3 oz) of lithium
based grease or CHO LUB TM. Apply liquid
gasket (Loctite #515 or equivalent) to mating
surface of gear case.
11. Tighten gear case by five screws.
