2. ANWENDUNG
Die Abseil- und Rettungshubgeräte Safe Descent
und Safe Descent+ sind Rettungsgeräte, mit denen
sich eine bzw. auch zwei Personen gleichzeitig oder
mehrere Personen einzeln nacheinander von einem
höheren zu einem tiefer gelegenen Ort mit einer
begrenzten Geschwindigkeit vertikal abseilen
können. Zusätzlich kann eine Person von einem
Helfer von einem tiefer- zu einem höher gelegenen
Ort vertikal heraufgezogen werden oder ein Helfer
kann an eine zu rettende Person heranfahren diese
aufnehmen und gemeinsam mit dieser abfahren.
Die Ausrüstung darf nur innerhalb der festgelegten
Einsatzbedingungen und für den vorgesehenen
Verwendungszweck benutzt werden. Das Abseil-
und Rettungshubgerät darf nur als Rettungssystem
nicht als Auffangsystem verwendet werden. Das
Abseil- und Rettungshubgerät kann in vertikaler,
horizontaler und geneigter Position verwendet
werden. Die Position ist abhängig von der jeweiligen
Anwendung. Vertikale Position bei lotrecht aufge-
hängtem Gerät an einem Anschlagpunkt. Horizon-
tale Position z.B. bei einer Plattformrettung.
Geneigte Position z.B. bei Befestigung des Gerätes
mittels Adapter an einem Dreibaum.

DE 3. KONTROLLE
Vor der Benutzung das Abseil- und Rettungshubgerät
einer Sicht- und Funktionsprüfung unterziehen. Wäh-
rend der Sichtprüfung werden folgende Punkte
beachtet: Korrosion, Verschleiß, Beschädigung
sowie die Lesbarkeit der Produktkennzeichnung.
Funktionsprüfung wie folgt: Jeweils einmal ziehen am
linken Abfahrseil und einmal am rechten Abfahrseil.
Das Seil muß sich relativ schwer aber gleichmäßig
ziehen lassen. Die Umschalthebel der Halte- und
Hubratsche müssen hierfür alle einmal auf grün und
einmal auf blau gestellt werden. Die Überprüfung vor
der Benutzung kann bei bestimmten, für den Notfall
vorgesehenen Ausrüstungsteilen dann entfallen,
wenn diese durch eine sachkundige Person verpackt
oder versiegelt wurde.
Sollten Zweifel hinsichtlich des sicheren Zustandes
des Systems oder den Bestandteilen auftreten, sind
diese sofort der Benutzung zu entziehen.
Beschädigte Geräte, Karabiner, Auffanggurte
und Seile dürfen nicht verwendet werden.
Durch Absturz beanspruchte Systeme sind ebenfalls
dem Gebrauch zu entziehen und dem Hersteller zur
Wartung und erneuten Prüfung zurückzusenden. Die
Sicherheit des Benutzers ist von der Wirksamkeit
und der Haltbarkeit der Ausrüstung abhängig. Hierfür
ist die regelmäßige Überprüfung eine zwingende
Notwendigkeit. Die regelmäßigen Überprüfungen
dürfen nur durch den Hersteller oder eine durch
den Hersteller autorisierte Person unter genauer
Beachtung der Anleitung des Herstellers für regel-
mäßige Überprüfung durchgeführt werden. Die
Produktkennzeichnung muß immer lesbar sein.
Nach einem Rettungseinsatz Sicht und Funkti-
onsprüfung durch den Hersteller oder eine durch
den Hersteller autorisierte Person vornehmen
lassen. Mindestens einmal im Jahr Prüfung durch
den Hersteller oder eine durch den Hersteller
autorisierte Person vornehmen lassen, auch
wenn kein Einsatz des Abseilgerätes erfolgte.
Achtung: Keine Veränderungen am Produkt vor-
nehmen! Das Austauschen von Bestandteilen
des Systems ist nicht erlaubt.
4. BENUTZUNG
Der Anwender muss diese Gebrauchsanleitung vor
der Anwendung vollständig gelesen und verstanden
haben.
Es ist zwingend notwendig, dass vor der Nutzung
des Rettungsgerätes ein Rettungsplan erstellt und
implementiert wird.
4.1 ABSEILEN DER ZU RETTENDEN PERSON
Das Abseil- und Rettungshubgerät Safe Descent
und Safe Descent+ darf nur von Personen benutzt
werden, die in der sicheren Benutzung unterwiesen
sind und die entsprechenden Kenntnisse haben.
Achtung: Seile beim Abfahren nicht über scharfe
Kanten laufen lassen. Seile vor scharfkantigen
Gegenständen, Schweißfunken, Chemikalien,
extremen Temperaturen oder anderen zerstören-
den oder beschädigenden Gefahren schützen.
Das Abseilen kann im Pendelbetrieb in beide Rich-
tungen erfolgen. Abseilgerät mit Abfahrseil so weit
aus dem Kunststoffbeutel herausziehen, dass der
Karabinerhaken der sich am Abseilgerät befindet, an
einem Anschlagpunkt entsprechend der lokalen

oder nationalen Vorschriften eingehakt werden
kann. Der Anschlagpunkt muß oberhalb des Benut-
zers liegen und eine Mindestbelastbarkeit von 12 kN
nach EN 795 oder eine Festigkeit entsprechend der
lokalen/nationalen Vorschriften gewährleisten. Es
ist darauf zu achten, dass keine Hindernisse den
Abseilvorgang beeinträchtigen.
Den Karabinerhaken vom oben befindlichen Abfahr-
seilende in den Befestigungspunkt des Rettungs-
gurtes EN 1497, Rettungsschlaufe EN 1498,
Auffanggurt EN 361 oder ähnliches einhaken und
sichern.
Bei Verwendung eines anderen Rettungs- oder Auf-
fanggurtes ist die jeweilige Gebrauchsanleitung zu
beachten.
Achtung: Bereits bei den Vorbereitungen zum
Abseilen auf eine entsprechende Sicherung
gegen Absturz achten!
Am Abfahrseil befindet sich an beiden Seilenden je
ein Karabinerhaken. Das Abfahrseil läuft über eine
Seilscheibe. Wenn sich das eine Seilende mit
Karabinerhaken am oberen Abseilort befindet, muß
sich das andere Seilende mit Karabinerhaken am
unteren Abseilort befinden.
Achtung: Die Hubratsche vom Gerät (nur Safe
Descent+) abnehmen. Sie wird für den reinen
Abseilvorgang nicht benötigt.
Die erste Person den am Abfahrseil befindlichen
Rettungsgurt anlegen.
Gebrauchsanleitung Rettungs- bzw. Auffanggurt
beachten.
Jetzt am langen nach unten hängendem Abfahrseil
so lange ziehen, bis eine straffe Verbindung zwi-
schen Abseilgerät und Rettungsgurt hergestellt ist.
Hierfür den Umschalthebel der Halteknarre in Rich-
tung kurzes Abfahrseil schalten.
Achtung: Niemals in ein durchhängendes Seil
fallen lassen. Ruhe bewahren!
Jetzt den Richtungsschalter der Halteratsche in Rich-
tung langes Abfahrseil umschalten. Mit dem Gesicht
zur Wand aussteigen und abfahren. Die Abfahrge-
schwindigkeit wird automatisch geregelt. Auf Hinder-
nisse achten! Beim Abseilen von mehreren Personen
müssen mindestens 2 Rettungsgurte vorhanden
sein. Den Karabinerhaken für die zweite Person vom
jetzt oben befindlichen Abfahrseilende in den
Befestigungspunkt des 2. Rettungsgurtes einhaken
und sichern. Jetzt den am Abfahrseil befindlichen
Rettungsgurt anlegen. Achtung: Gebrauchsanleitung
Rettungs- bzw. Auffanggurt beachten. Am langen
nach unten hängendem Abfahrseil so lange ziehen,
bis eine straffe Verbindung zwischen Abseilgerät
und Rettungsgurt hergestellt ist. Jetzt den
Umschalthebel der Halteratsche in Richtung langes
Abfahrseil umschalten. Mit dem Gesicht zur Wand
aussteigen und abfahren. Unten angekommen
Rettungsgurt ablegen und am Seil belassen. Jetzt
am langen nach unten hängendem Abfahrseil so
lange ziehen, bis eine straffe Verbindung zwischen
Abseilgerät und Rettungsgurt hergestellt ist. Jetzt
den Umschalthebel der Halteknarre in Richtung
langes Abfahrseil umschalten. Mit dem Gesicht zur
Wand aussteigen und abfahren. Alle weiteren
Personen können sich in gleicher Weise wie Person
3 nacheinander abseilen.

4.2 GLEICHZEITIGES ABFAHREN DER ZU RET-
TENDEN PERSON UND DER RETTENDEN
PERSON
Die rettende Person kann sich gleichzeitig mit der
zu rettenden Person abseilen. Dazu müssen beide
den Karabinerhaken vom oben befindlichen
Abfahrseilende in den jeweiligen Befestigungspunkt
des Rettungsgurtes einhaken und sichern. Bei die-
ser Anwendung darf das Seil nicht durch den offe-
nen Haken geführt werden.
Achtung: Bis zum Abseilvorgang (einzeln oder zu
zweit) stets auf ausreichende Sicherung gegen
Absturz achten. Nicht über Flüssigkeiten und
losen Schüttgütern abseilen.
4.3 HUBFUNKTION
Für das Heraufziehen einer Person von einem tiefer-
zu einem höhergelegenen Ort, muß das Abseil- und
Rettungshubgerät mit dem am Gerät befindlichen
Karabinerhaken an einem Anschlagpunkt nach
EN 795 sicher befestigt werden. Hubratsche abneh-
men. Den am kurzen Abfahrseilende befindlichen
Rettungsgurt mit dem Abfahrseil nach unten ablas-
sen. Hierfür muß das Seil durch das Gerät durchge-
zogen werden. Der Umschalthebel der Halteknarre
muß dabei in Richtung langes einlaufendes Seil
zeigen. Der Hubvorgang kann entweder mit dem
Handrad oder mit der Hubratsche durchgeführt
werden. Für den Hubvorgang den Umschalthebel
der Halteknarre in Richtung lasttragendes Seilende
umschalten. Durch Drehen des Handrades kann der
Helfer mit dem Heraufziehen beginnen. Für den
Hubvorgang mit der Hubratsche diese in den
Adapter stecken. Der Umschalthebel der Hubrat-
schen muß in Richtung loses Seilende zeigen.
Hubvorgang beginnen.
Zur Vereinfachung der Schaltstellungen der Um-
schalthebel an der Halte- und den Hubratschen sind
diese mit grün und blau gekennzeichnet. Zusätzlich
befindet sich auf dem Seil je eine Kunststoffscheibe
in grün und blau. Je nach Hub- bzw. Abseilrichtung
immer alle Schalter entweder auf grün oder alle
Schalter auf blau stellen. Sollte beim Hubvorgang
das Seil nicht sofort in der Seilscheibe greifen, ein-
mal an der unbelasteten Seilseite ruckartig ziehen.
4.4 RETTUNG EINER HILFLOS IM VERBIN-
DUNGSMITTEL HÄNGENDEN PERSON
Das Abseil- und Rettungshubgerät mit dem am
Gerät befindlichen Karabinerhaken an einem geeig-
neten Anschlagpunkt nach EN 795 sicher befesti-
gen. Den Karabinerhaken des kurzen Seilendes in
die Dorsale Öse des Auffanggurtes der zu rettenden
Person einhaken und sichern. Der Umschalthebel
der Halteknarre muß in Richtung des kurzen in die
Dorsale Öse eingehakten Seilendes zeigen. Durch
Drehen des Handrades die zu rettende Person
soweit anheben, dass diese aus dem Verbindungs-
mittel gelöst werden kann. Wenn mit der Hubratsche
gehoben wird Umschalthebel der Hubratsche in
Richtung loses Seilende schalten. Mit der Hub-
ratsche die zu rettende Person soweit anheben, daß
diese aus dem Verbindungsmittel gelöst werden
kann.
Das Abseilen der Person erfordert das Umschalten
aller Ratschen. Auch hier gilt wieder, je nach Hub-
bzw. Abseilrichtung alle Schalter entweder auf grün
oder alle Schalter auf blau stellen.

Achtung: Unter Last können und dürfen die
Ratschen nicht umgeschaltet werden.
Variante 1: Heben mit dem Handrad
Zum Umschalten muss wie folgt vorgegangen wer-
den. Mit dem Handrad durch drehen die Last
anheben und halten. Dadurch wird die Halteknarre
entlastet und kann umgeschaltet werden. Die Last
weiter mit dem Handrad halten. Jetzt das unbelaste-
te Seil in den offenen Haken einlegen, fest nach
unten ziehen und straff halten. Um den
Abseilvorgang zu beginnen das Handrad langsam
loslassen und das Seil langsam durch die Hand
gleiten lassen.
Variante 2: Heben mit der Hubratsche
Zum Umschalten muss als erstes die Halteknarre
und anschließend die Hubratschen entlastet wer-
den. Hierzu ist wie folgt vorzugehen: Mit einer
Hubratsche die Last anheben und mit dieser auch
die Last halten. Dadurch wird die Halteknarre ent-
lastet und kann umgeschaltet werden.
Achtung: Die Last weiter mit der Hubratsche
halten.
Jetzt das unbelastete Seil in den offenen Haken
einlegen, fest nach unten ziehen und straff halten.
Die Hubratsche mit der die Last gehalten wird, kann
jetzt langsam entlastet und ebenfalls umgeschaltet
werden, oder durch Betätigung des Auswurfknopfes
vom Gerät abgenommen werden. Dabei muß die
Last mit dem Seil gehalten werden. Es erfolgt also
eine Lastübergabe von der Hubratsche auf das
straff nach unten zu haltende Seil. Um den
Abseilvorgang zu beginnen das Seil langsam durch
die Hand (mit Handschuhe) gleiten lassen und los
lassen. Die Abseilgeschwindigkeit wird durch eine
Fliehkraftbremse automatisch geregelt. Bei der
Rettung eines Verunfallten aus einer Steigleiter ist
es oft erforderlich, den Vorgang des Abseilens,
zusätzlich von Hand mit zu steuern. Dazu läßt der
Retter das nach oben laufende Seil durch seine
Hand gleiten und kann damit die
Abseilgeschwindigkeit exakt steuern und den
Verunfallten so an möglichen Hindernissen langsam
vorbeiführen. Während des Rettungsvorgangs sollte
es stets einen direkten oder indirekten Sichtkontakt
oder eine andere geeignete Kommunikation mit der
zu rettenden Person geben.
4.5 RETTUNG DURCH HERANFAHREN DES
RETTERS AN EINE ZU RETTENDE PERSON
Mit dem Abseil- und Rettungshubgerät Safe
Descent+ ist es auch möglich, daß der Retter direkt
mit dem Gerät an die zu rettende Person heran-
fährt, diese anhängt, gegebenenfalls sich selbst und
die zu rettende Person anhebt um z.B. das
Verbindungsmittel der zu rettenden Person zu lösen
und dann gemeinsam mit dieser nach unten
abfährt. Diese Rettung darf nur von Personen
durchgeführt werden, die in die sichere Benutzung
speziell dieser Anwendung unterwiesen sind und
die entsprechenden Kenntnisse haben.
Der Retter muss dafür sorgen, dass die Ausrüs-
tung nach einem Rettungsvorgang der Benut-
zung entzogen wird, um eine Überprüfung,
Wartung oder Revision durchzuführen.

5. WARTUNG, LAGERUNG, TRANSPORT UND
INSTANDSETZUNG
Nach dem Einsatz Abseilgerät und Abfahrseil gege-
benenfalls reinigen. Reinigung mit reichlich Wasser
(40°C). Wenn es beim Einsatz oder beim Reinigen
naß geworden ist trocknen. Trocknen ausschließlich
auf natürliche Weise, d.h. nicht in der Nähe von
Feuer oder anderen Hitzequellen. Abseilgerät und
Abfahrseil in luftigen und schattigen Räumen tro-
cken lagern. Um Beschädigungen während der
Lagerung oder des Transports zu verhindern sollte
die Ausrüstung in einem Gerätebeutel oder einer
Transportkiste aufbewahrt werden. Kontakt mit
hoher Feuchtigkeit, Hitze, Chemikalien, insbesonde-
re Säuren, ätzenden Flüssigkeiten und Ölen vermei-
den. Wenn unvermeidbar, unbedingt an den Her-
steller wenden. Sollte eine Desinfektion der Aus-
rüstung erforderlich sein, bitte ebenfalls an den
Hersteller wenden.
Instandsetzungen dürfen nur durch den Hersteller
oder eine durch den Hersteller autorisierte Person
unter genauer Beachtung der Instandsetzungs-
anleitung durchgeführt werden.
Abseilgeräte, die fest an einem Arbeitsplatz installiert
sind und dort zwischen den Inspektionen in Position
gelassen werden, sind auf geeignete Weise gegen
Umwelteinflüsse zu schützen (z. B. Rettungsfass).
Die Rettungsausrüstung sollte in einem eindeutig
gekennzeichneten Bereich gelagert werden, sofort
einsatzbereit für einen Rettungsfall.
Beschädigte Ausrüstung oder Ausrüstung, die
gewartet werden muss, auf keinen Fall im gleichen
Bereich wie die einsatzbereite Ausrüstung lagern.
Ausrüstung, die lange ungenutzt gelagert wurde
(länger als ein Jahr) muss einer detaillierten Über-
prüfung durch einen Sachkundigen unterzogen
werden. (Ausnahme versiegelte Fasslagerung)
Extrem nasse oder verschmutzte Ausrüstungen
müssen vor der Lagerung gewartet (getrocknet
und/oder gereinigt) werden.
6. ÜBERPRÜFUNG DER RETTUNGSAUSRÜSTUNG
Die Rettungsausrüstung soll vom Retter/Anwender
vor jedem Einsatz überprüft werden und zusätzlich
von einem Sachkundigen (nicht der Retter/Anwen-
der) mindestens einmal alle 12 Monate. Die Über-
prüfungs-Kriterien sollen vom Unternehmer des
Anwenders festgelegt werden. Diese Kriterien sollen
gleich oder größer als die Normanforderungen oder
die Anforderungen des Herstellers der Ausrüstung
sein. Diese Überprüfungskriterien müssen in Abhän-
gigkeit von geänderten Anwendungsfällen angepasst
werden.
Hintergrund der doppelten Überprüfung der Aus-
rüstung ist zwei unterschiedliche Meinungen zu
haben, über die Erkennung und Beseitigung von
Beschädigungen, Fehlfunktionen oder schlecht
gepflegter Ausrüstung. Sollten diese Mängel nur
vom Sachkundigen entdeckt werden, ist es dringend
notwendig den Anwender dringend zu schulen,
damit er in der Lage ist diese Mängel zu erkennen.
Die Intervalle zur Überprüfung des Rettungsgerätes
durch einen Sachkundigen muss vom Unternehmen
unter Berücksichtigung aller relevanten Faktoren
(Art und Gefährlichkeit des Arbeitsplatzes, äußere
Einflüsse auf das Gerät, Art und Häufigkeit der
Nutzung des Gerätes) festgelegt werden.
Die regelmäßigen Überprüfungen des Gerätes müs-
sen vom Unternehmen dokumentiert werden. Hier
reicht die Identifizierung des Gerätes, Über-
prüfungsdatum, Name des Sachkundigen und das
Ergebnis der Überprüfung.

7. BENUTZUNGSDAUER
Die Benutzungsdauer ist von den jeweiligen Ein-
satzbedingungen abhängig. Nach den bisherigen
Erfahrungen, ist die Nutzungsdauer des Seil unter
normalen Bedienungen auf 6 Jahre begrenzt.
8. WARNHINWEISE
Für jedes System bzw. Bestandteil wird eine Ge-
brauchsanleitung mitgeliefert. Diese muß bei der
Ausrüstung gehalten werden. Beachten Sie auch die
Gebrauchsanleitungen der Produkte, die im
Zusammenhang mit dem Abseilgerät Safe Descent
und Safe Descent+ benutzt werden, sowie die
jeweils gültigen Unfallverhütungsvorschriften.
Das Abseilgerät darf nur von einer in die sichere
Anwendung unterwiesene und geschulte Person
benutzt werden. Nur regelmäßige praktische Übun-
gen gewährleisten eine sichere Anwendung. Für
jede zu erwartende Rettungssituation muss ein
Rettungsplan vorhanden sein.
Alle Änderungen oder Ergänzungen am Abseilgerät
ohne schriftliche Freigabe des Herstellers sind ver-
boten.
Das Abseilgerät darf nur für die in dieser Gebrauchs-
anleitung beschriebenen Einsatzbedingungen
(Lasten, Abseilhöhe, Temperaturbereich) eingesetzt
werden. Nach langen Abseilvorgängen kann das
Abseilgerät heiß werden. Aus diesem Grund das
Gerät nur mit Handschuhen anfassen.
Jede Kombination verschiedener Ausrüstungen
kann im Zusammenwirken unvorhergesehene Ge-
fahrensituationen hervorrufen und die Sicherheit
des Benutzers negativ beeinflussen. Der Anschlag-
punkt muss oberhalb des Benutzers liegen und eine
Mindestbelastbarkeit von 12 kN nach EN 795 oder
eine Festigkeit entsprechend der lokalen/nationa-
len Vorschriften gewährleisten.
Das Abseilgerät muss sofort dem Gebrauch entzo-
gen werden, sobald nur der geringste Zweifel über
den sicheren Zustand und der sicheren Funktion
besteht. Gesundheitliche Einschränkungen wie z.B.
Herz- und Kreislaufprobleme, Medikamenteneinnah-
me o.ä. können die Sicherheit des Benutzers im
Normalfall und im Notfall beeinträchtigen. Der
Abseilvorgang muss stets durch den oder die
Benutzer kontrolliert werden, da die Kontrolle bei
Verlust unter Umständen nur sehr schwierig wieder-
zuerlangen ist. Die Hub- und Absenkfunktion des
Abseilgerätes darf nur für Rettungszwecke und
nicht zum Anheben oder Absenken von Lasten ver-
wendet werden. Vermeiden Sie ein Abseilen in
elektrische, heiße, chemische oder andere Ge-
fahrenbereiche.
Verwenden Sie kein anderes als das Original-Seil
des Herstellers, dieses kann durch den Hersteller
oder eine vom Hersteller autorisierte Person ge-
wechselt werden.

2. USE
The descender and rescue lifting devices Safe
Descent and Safe Descent+ are rescue devices
allowing vertical descent of one or two persons at
the same time or several persons one after the
other from a higher to a lower station at limited
speed. Additionally, a person can be lifted vertically
by a helper from a lower to a higher station, or a
helper may move to the person to be rescued,
collect the person and then descend together with
him/her. The equipment may only be used at the
defined conditions and for the purpose it is inten-
ded for. The descent and rescue lifting device may
only be used as a rescue system, not as a fall arrest
system. The descender and rescue system may be
used in vertical, horizontal and inclined position.
The position depends on the application at hand.
Vertical position with the device suspended in verti-
cal position from an attachment point. Horizontal
position, e. g. when rescuing from a platform.
Inclined position, e. g. when fastening the device to
a tripod by means of an adapter.
3. INSPECTION
Inspect the descender and rescue lifting device
before each use and check its function. During the
inspection, look for the following: corrosion, wear,
damage; also check the readability of the product
identification.
Check the function as follows: Pull once on the left
and on the right descent rope. It must be relatively
hard to pull the rope, but the resistance must be
even. During the check, push the switch-over levers
of the retaining and the lifting ratchet once to the
green and once to the blue position. The inspection
prior to use may not be required for some emergen-
cy equipment, provided it has been packed and
sealed by an adequately qualified person.
If there is any doubt concerning the safe condition
of the system or any of its components, immediate-
ly remove these from use.
Damaged devices, karabiner, fall arrest har-
nesses and ropes must not be used.
Systems burdened by a fall must likewise be remo-
ved from use and should be turned in to the manu-
facturer for maintenance or re-inspection. The
safety of the user depends on the effectiveness and
the durability of the equipment used. Regular ins-
pection is an indispensable precondition for both.
The regular inspections must be performed as
specified in the inspection instructions published by
the manufacturer and exclusively by the manufactu-
rer or by a person authorised by the manufacturer.
The product identification must be readable at all
times.
After the equipment has been used for rescue
operations, have the visual and functional
inspection performed by the manufacturer or a

person authorised by the manufacturer. At least
once per year, have the equipment inspected by
the manufacturer or a person authorised by the
manufacturer, even if the descender device has
not been used. Attention: Do not change the
product in any way! Replacing components of
the system is not allowed.
4. USE
Before using the equipment, the user must have
read and understood the entire present instructions
for use.
Before using the equipment, issue and implementa-
tion of a rescue plan is mandatory.
4.1 DESCENT OF A PERSON TO BE RESCUED
The descender and rescue lifting devices Safe
Descent and Safe Descent+ may only be used by
persons who have been trained in their safe use and
who have the relevant knowledge.
Attention: Do not run ropes across sharp edges
when descending. Protect the ropes from sharp-
edged objects, welding sparks, chemicals,
extreme temperatures, and other destructive or
damaging influences.
Descent may be performed alternately in both
directions. Pull the descender device with the
descent rope from the plastic bag far enough to
allow latching the karabiner fastened to the descen-
der device to an attachment point conforming to
the local or national regulations. The attachment
point must be above the user; its minimum loading
strength must be 12 kN to EN 795 or the loading
strength must conform with the applicable local/
national regulations. Ensure that no obstacles are
hindering the descent.
Latch the karabiner at the end of the top descent
rope to the attachment point on the rescue harness
to EN 1497, rescue loop to EN 1498, fall arrest
harness to EN 361 or similar and secure it.
When using a rescue or fall arrest harness, be sure
to observe the respective instructions for use.
Attention: Already when preparing for descent
ensure proper fall protection!
The descent rope has a karabiner attached on both
ends. The descent rope runs across a pulley. When
the one rope end with its karabiner is at the top
descent station, the other rope end with its karabi-
ner must be at the bottom descent station.
Attention: Remove the lifting ratchet from the
device (on Safe Descent+ only). It is not needed
for mere descent.
Fit the rescue harness attached to the descent rope
to the first person.
Observe the instructions for use of the rescue
or fall arrest harness.
Now pull the long suspended end of the descent
rope until the connection between the descender
device and the rescue harness is tensioned. To do
so, push the switch-over lever of the support pawl
toward the short end of the descent rope.
Attention: Never drop into a sagging rope. Keep
calm!

Now switch the lever of the support pawl toward the
long end of the descent rope. Get off the station
with the face toward the wall and descend. The
descend speed is controlled automatically. Watch
out for obstacles! When descending several per-
sons, at least two rescue harnesses must be used.
Connect the karabiner on the end of the descent
rope that is now in the top position to the fastening
point on the second rescue harness and secure it.
Now have the second person put on the rescue
harness attached to the descent rope. Attention:
Observe the instructions for use of the rescue or fall
arrest harness. Pull the long suspended end of the
descent rope until the connection between the
descender device and the rescue harness is tensi-
oned. Now switch the lever of the support pawl
toward the long end of the descent rope. Get off the
station with the face toward the wall and descend.
Once the person has arrived at the bottom station,
put off the rescue harness, but leave it connected
to the rope. Now pull the long suspended end of the
descent rope until the connection between the
descender device and the rescue harness is tensi-
oned. Now switch the lever of the support pawl
toward the long end of the descent rope. Get off the
station with the face toward the wall and descend.
All further persons may descend one after the other
the same way that it has been done with person 3.
4.2 SIMULTANEOUS DESCENT OF THE PERSON
TO BE RESCUED AND THE RESCUING PERSON
The rescuing person may descend together with the
person rescued. To do so both karabiners attached
to the top end of the descent rope must be latched
to the fastening point on the respective rescue
harness and must be secured. For this application
the rope must not be fed through the open hook.
Attention: Until descent begins (be it one by one
or two together), ensure sufficient fall protection.
Do not descent to pools liquid or piles of loose
bulk solids.
4.3 LIFTING FUNCTION
To lift a person from a lower station to a higher
station, the descender and rescue device must be
safely fastened to an attachment point to EN 795
using the karabiner on the device. Remove the lif-
ting ratchet. Lower the rescue harness attached to
the short end of the descent rope to the lower sta-
tion. To do so, pull the rope through the device. The
switch-over lever of the support pawl must point
toward the long end of the rope that is taken in.
Lifting may be controlled with the hand wheel or the
lifting ratchet. To start lifting, push the switch-over
lever of the support pawl toward the load-bearing
end of the rope. Turn the hand wheel to start pulling
the person up. If you wish to use the lifting ratchet
to control lifting, attach it to its adapter. The switch-
over lever of the lifting ratchet must point toward
the loose end of the rope. Start lifting.
To simplify selecting the right positions of the
switch-over levers on the support and lifting rat-
chets these are marked in green and blue.
Additionally, the rope is marked with a green and
blue plastic disc each. Depending on the lifting or
descent direction always push all switches to either
green or blue. If the rope is not immediately arres-
ted by the pulley during lifting, grab the relieved
rope end and sharply pull on it.

4.4 RESCUING A PERSON HANGING HELP-
LESSLY ON A LANYARD
Fasten the descender and rescue device safely to
an attachment point to EN 795 using the karabiner
on the device. Latch the karabiner on the short end
of the rope to the dorsal eye on the fall arrest har-
ness of the person to be rescued and secure it. The
switch-over lever of the support pawl must point
toward the short rope end attached to the dorsal
eye on the rescue harness. Turning the hand wheel,
lift the person until he/she can be detached from
the lanyard. If the lifting ratchet is used to lift the
person, push the switch-over lever of the lifting rat-
chet toward the loose end of the rope. Using the
lifting ratchet, lift the person until he/she can be
detached from the lanyard.
To descend the person, all ratchets must be swit-
ched over. Be sure to push all switches to either
green or blue, depending on the lifting or descent
direction.
Attention: The ratchets cannot and must not be
switched when the rope is loaded.
Version 1: Lifting with the hand wheel
Switch over as follows: Lift and hold the load using
the hand wheel. The support pawl is thereby relie-
ved and can be switched over. Keep holding the
load with the hand wheel. Now feed the relieved
end of the rope through the open hook, pull it down
firmly and hold it tensioned. To start the descent,
begin to let go of the hand wheel slowly and let the
rope glide through your hand slowly.
Version 2: Lifting with the lifting ratchet
To switch over, first relieve the support pawl and
then the lifting ratchet. Proceed as follows: Lift the
load using one lifting ratchet and hold the load with
this ratchet. The support pawl is thereby relieved
and can be switched over.
Attention: Keep holding the load with the lifting
ratchet.
Now feed the relieved end of the rope through the
open hook, pull it down firmly and hold it tensioned.
Now you may slowly release the lifting ratchet hol-
ding the load, then it also may be switched over or
it may be detached from the device by pressing the
eject button. Be sure to hold the load with the rope.
That is, the load is transferred from the lifting rat-
chet to the rope held down tightly. To start the
descent, begin to let the rope glide through your
hand slowly (wear gloves), then let go of it. The
descent speed is controlled automatically by the
centrifugal brake. If a person must be rescued from
a ladder, it is often necessary to control the descent
manually. The person rescuing lets the rope end
running upward glide through his hand and thereby
precisely controls the descent speed, to ensure the
person rescued is maneuverer slowly around obsta-
cles. During the rescue action direct or indirect
visual contact should be maintained permanently; if
this is not possible, good communication with the
person rescued should be established by other
means.

4.5 RESCUE BY APPROACH OF THE RESCUER
TO THE PERSON TO BE RESCUED
The descender and rescue lifting device also allows
a rescuer to descent directly to the person to be
rescued, attach the person and then lift both the
rescuer and the rescued to detach the lanyard
securing the rescued person; thereafter both will
descend together. This type of rescue action may
only be undertaken by persons who have been
specifically trained to do so and have correspon-
ding knowledge.
After the rescue action, the rescuer must ensure
that the equipment is removed from use, and
turn it in for inspection, maintenance or revision.
5. MAINTENANCE, STORAGE, TRANSPORT
AND REPAIR
Upon use clean the descender device and the
descent rope if necessary. Clean it with a lot of
water (at 40 °C). If the device has become wet
during use or due to the cleaning, dry it. Dry it
exclusively by natural convection, that is, not near
any fire or other heat sources. Store the descender
device and the descent rope in a well ventilated,
shady and dry room. To prevent damage during
transport or storage, the equipment should be
stored in its storage bag or a transport crate.
Contact with high humidity, heat, chemicals - espe-
cially with acids, aggressive liquids, and with oils
must be prevented. If any of these are unavoidable,
be sure to contact the manufacturer. If the equip-
ment needs to be disinfected, please also contact
the manufacturer.
Repairs must be made exclusively by the manufac-
turer or a person authorised by the manufacturer;
repair instructions must be followed carefully.
Descender devices that are permanently installed in
a workplace and remain in a specific position bet-
ween the inspections, must be protected from
environmental influences by suitable measures (e.g
by use of a rescue vat).
The rescue equipment should be stored in a clearly
identified location, it should be ready for immediate
use in an emergency.
Damaged equipment or equipment needing mainte-
nance must by no means be stored in the same
location with equipment that is ready for use.
Equipment that has been stored for a longer period
and has not be used (for more than one year) must
be inspected carefully by an adequately qualified
person. (Exception: storage in a sealed vat)
Extremely wet or contaminated equipment must be
maintained before it is stored (drying and/or
cleaning).
6. INSPECTION OF RESCUE EQUIPMENT
The rescue equipment shall be checked by the res-
cuer/user before every use; additionally, it shall be
inspected once every 12 months by an adequately
qualified person (not the rescuer/user). The inspec-
tion criteria shall be set by the management of the
enterprise using the equipment. These criteria shall
duplicate or be more stringent than the normative
requirements or the requirements set by the manu-
facture of the equipment. The inspection criteria
must be adapted to the different application scena-
rios.
The background of performing a double-check of
the equipment is the acquisition of two different
opinions concerning the detection and remedy of
damage, malfunction or bad maintenance of the
equipment. If such deficiencies are detected by the

adequately qualified person, the user must be trai-
ned promptly to ensure he will detect such faults.
The intervals for inspection of the rescue equipment
by an adequately qualified person must be determi-
ned by the management of the enterprise conside-
ring all relevant factors (type and risk level of the
workplace, external influences on the equipment,
type and frequency of use of the equipment).
Regular inspections of the equipment must be
documented by the enterprise. The following infor-
mation will suffice: identification of the device, date
of inspection, name of the adequately qualified
person and result of the inspection.
7. SERVICE LIFE
The service life depends on the application condi-
tions at hand. Based on current experiences, the
useful life of the rope is limited to 6 years under
normal conditions.
8. WARNINGS
Instructions for use an inspection are supplied for
each system or component. These must be kept
together with the equipment. Also observe the inst-
ructions for use of the products used in conjunction
with the descender devices Safe Descent and Safe
Descent+; also observe the applicable regulations
for accident prevention.
The descender device must be used exclusively by
a person that has been instructed and trained in its
safe use. Only regular practical exercises guarantee
safe use. A rescue plan must be available for each
foreseen rescue situation.
All changes or additions to the descender device
are forbidden, unless they have been approved in
writing by the manufacturer.
The descender device must be used exclusively for
the conditions of use outlined in the present inst-
ructions for use (loads, descent height, temperature
range). Prolonged descent operations may cause
the descender device to heat up. Therefore, touch
the device with gloves only.
Any combination of different equipment may in its
inter-operation cause unexpected hazard situations
that may negatively influence safe use. The attach-
ment point must be above the user; its minimum
loading strength must be 12 kN to EN 795, or the
loading strength must conform with the applicable
local/national regulations.
The descender device must be removed from use
immediately if there are even the slightest doubts
concerning its safe condition or safe function.
Impaired health, such as heart and circulatory pro-
blems, use of medication or similar conditions, may
affect the safety of the user under normal condi-
tions and in cases of emergency. The descent ope-
ration must be controlled constantly by the user/
users, since control, once lost, may be very difficult
to regain. The lifting and descent functions of the
descender device must be used exclusively for res-
cue purposes and not for lifting or lowering of loads.
Avoid descent to hazard zones with electric
hazards, hot parts/media, chemical hazards etc.
Do not use any other than the original rope supplied
by the manufacturer; the rope may only be replaced
by the manufacturer or a person authorized by the
manufacturer.

2. UTILISATION
Les descendeurs/appareils de levage pour le sau-
vetage Safe Descent et Safe Descent+ sont des
systèmes de sauvetage permettant de faire
descendre en rappel verticalement, à une vitesse
limitée, d‘un endroit élevé à un point inférieur, une
personne, voire deux personnes simultanément, ou
plusieurs personnes l‘une après l‘autre. De plus,
une personne peut être remontée à la verticale par
un secouriste d‘un point inférieur à un point plus
élevé, ou bien un secouriste peut se rapprocher
d‘une personne à secourir, l‘accrocher à lui et
descendre avec elle. L‘équipement doit uniquement
être utilisé selon les conditions d‘utilisation définies
et dans le cadre de l‘utilisation prévue. Le descen-
deur/appareil de levage pour le sauvetage doit
uniquement être utilisé comme système de sauve-
tage et ne peut pas servir de système antichute. Le
descendeur/appareil de levage pour le sauvetage
peut être utilisé en position verticale, horizontale et
inclinée. La position dépend de l‘utilisation corres-
pondante. Position verticale lorsque l‘appareil est
suspendu à la verticale à un point de butée. Position
horizontale, par ex. en cas de sauvetage sur une
plateforme. Position inclinée, par ex. en cas de
fixation de l‘appareil sur un trépied à l‘aide d‘un
adaptateur.
3. CONTRÔLE
Avant utilisation, le descendeur/appareil de levage
pour le sauvetage doit être soumis à un contrôle
visuel et à un test de fonctionnement. Le contrôle
visuel doit porter sur les points suivants : corrosion,
usure, endommagement et lisibilité de l‘étiquetage
du produit.
Effectuer le test de fonctionnement de la manière
suivante : tirer une fois sur la corde de descente de
gauche et une fois sur la corde de descente de
droite. La corde doit être relativement difficile à

tirer, mais elle doit pouvoir être tirée de façon uni-
forme. Pour cela, les leviers d‘inversion du cliquet
d‘arrêt et de levage doivent être tous positionnés
une fois sur le vert et une fois sur le bleu. Le con-
trôle avant utilisation peut être omis pour certaines
pièces d’équipement prévues pour les cas
d’urgence, mais uniquement si elles ont été embal-
lées et scellées par une personne compétente.
En cas de doute concernant le degré de sécurité du
système ou des composants, les retirer immédiate-
ment de la circulation.
Les appareils, connecteur, harnais antichute et
cordes endommagés ne doivent pas être utilisés.
Les systèmes sollicités par une chute doivent éga-
lement être retirés de la circulation et être renvoyés
au fabricant à des fins de maintenance et de vérifi-
cation. La sécurité de l‘utilisateur dépend de
l‘efficacité et de la durabilité de l‘équipement. Par
conséquent, il est indispensable de procéder à des
contrôles réguliers. Les contrôles réguliers doivent
uniquement être effectués par le fabricant ou une
personne agréée par le fabricant tout en respectant
scrupuleusement les instructions du fabricant pour
le contrôle régulier de l‘équipement. L‘étiquetage
du produit doit toujours être lisible.
Après une intervention de sauvetage, soumettre
l‘équipement à un contrôle visuel et à un test de
fonctionnement par le fabricant ou une personne
agréée par le fabricant. Faire effectuer un con-
trôle par le fabricant ou une personne agrée par
le fabricant au moins une fois par an, même si
le descendeur n‘a pas été utilisé. Attention : ne
procéder en aucun cas à des modifications sur
le produit ! Le remplacement de composants du
système n‘est pas autorisé.
4. UTILISATION
L‘utilisateur doit avoir entièrement lu et compris ce
mode d‘emploi avant utilisation.
Il est indispensable d‘élaborer un plan de sauvetage
et de le mettre en œuvre
avant d‘utiliser l‘appareil de sauvetage.
4.1 DESCENTE EN RAPPEL DE LA PERSONNE
À SECOURIR
Le descendeur/appareil de levage pour le sauvetage
Safe Descent et Safe Descent+ doit uniquement
être utilisé par des personnes qui ont été familiari-
sées avec son utilisation sûre et qui disposent des
connaissances correspondantes.
Attention : Ne pas faire passer les cordes sur
des arêtes tranchantes lors de la descente.
Protégez les cordes des objets à arêtes tran-
chantes, des étincelles de soudure, des produits
chimiques, des températures extrêmes ou
d’autres risques de destruction et de détériora-
tion.
En cas de rappel pendulaire, la descente en rappel
peut se faire dans les deux sens. Sortir le descen-
deur du sachet en plastique avec la corde de
descente jusqu‘à ce que le mousqueton, qui se
trouve sur le descendeur, puisse être accroché à un
point d‘ancrage conformément aux réglementa-
tions locales ou nationales. Le point d‘ancrage doit
se trouver au-dessus de l‘utilisateur et garantir une
charge minimale de 12 kN selon la norme EN 795
ou une résistance conforme aux réglementations
locales ou nationales. Veiller à ce qu‘aucun obstacle
ne puisse gêner la descente en rappel.
