Quick Start Guide
10-Port Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet Switch
ECS2000-10T
The ECS2000-10T is a Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 switch with 8 10/100/1000BASE-T
ports, and 2 Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver slots.
Note: For detailed switch installation information, refer to the Installation Guide,
which is on the Documentation CD included with the switch.

Information document included with the switch.
1. Unpack the Switch Unpack the switch and check the package contents.

◆Bracket Mounting Kit containing two brackets and four screws for attaching the
brackets to the switch

◆Power cord — either US or Continental Europe

2. Install the Switch The switch can be mounted in a standard 19-inch rack or on a desktop or shelf.
Following your rack plan, mark the holes in the rack where the switch will be
installed. Lift the switch into the rack and hold it in a position aligned with the
marked holes. Secure the switch in the rack, using four rack-mounting screws (not
provided).
3. Ground the Switch Before powering on the switch, ground the switch to earth.
Ensure the rack on which the switch is to be mounted is properly grounded and in
compliance with ETSI ETS 300 253. Verify that there is a good electrical connection
to the grounding point on the rack (no paint or isolating surface treatment.).
Caution: The earth connection must not be removed unless all supply
connections have been disconnected
Attach the brackets to the switch.
Use the screws supplied with the rack to secure the switch in the rack.

Connect a grounding wire and lug to the grounding point on the switch rear panel, and then
to rack ground.

4. Connect the Power To supply AC power to the switch, first verify that the external AC power supply can
provide 100 to 240 VAC, 50-60 Hz and 0.50 A minimun.
To connect AC power, plug the power cord into a grounded, 3-pin, AC power source
and then into the AC socket on the rear of the switch
Caution: Use the AC power cord supplied with the switch. For international users
that may need to change the AC power cord, you must use a cord set that has been
approved for the socket type in your country.
5. Verify Switch
Operation
Verify basic switch operation by checking the system LEDs.
When operating normally, the Diag and Power LEDs should both be on green.
Plug the AC power cord into the socket on the rear of the switch.

6. Connect to the Web
User Interface
The switch offers a user-friendly web-based management interface for the
configuration of all the unit’s features.
You can make initial configuration changes by connecting a PC directly to one the
switch’s RJ-45 ports. The switch has a default management IP address of
192.168.1.10 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. You must set your PC IP address
to be on the same subnet as the switch (that is, the PC and switch addresses must
both start 192.168.1.x).
Log in to the web interface using the default settings:
◆Login Name — admin
◆Password — admin
7. Connect Network
Cables
Install SFP/SFP+ transceivers and connect network cables to port interfaces:
◆For RJ-45 ports, use 100-ohm Category 5, 5e or better twisted-pair cable for all
connections.
◆First install SFP/SFP+ transceivers and then connect fiber optic cabling to the
transceiver ports. The following transceivers are supported:
■1000BASE-SX
■1000BASE-LX
■1000BASE-LH
■100BASE-FX
As connections are made, check the port status LEDs to be sure the links are valid.
