and yourproperty.Sothatyou cangetthemostfromyouralarmsystemwesuggestthat
you takethetimeto readthrough thismanualand familiariseyourselfwith the
Solution-8 and itsmanyoutstandingoperating features.
You willnotice thatin all aspectsofplanning, engineering, styling, operation,

Features
The Solution-8 securitycontrol systemusestheverylatestin microprocessor
technologyto provideyou withmoreusefulfeaturesand superiorreliability and
performance.
Following isalistofsomeofthefeaturesand whytheywillbeofbenefitto you.
Operating codesmaybeup to six digitslong. Thisallowsforafargreater
combination ofcodesand thereforeahigherdegreeofsecurity.
Dynamicbatterytesting continuallytestsand monitorsthestandbybatteries
condition. Asbatteriesdo not lastforeverthisfeaturewillwarnyou ofpoor
batterycondition beforeanalarmoccurs.
Dayalarmwarning allowsyou tomonitortheopeningofafront doorin ashop or
to prohibitaccess into aparticularareawhilethesystemisstilldisarmed.
Remotearming isauniquefeaturethatallowsyou to armyouralarmsystemfrom
anytelephoneintheworld. Thisisveryuseful ifyou forgetto armyoursystem.
Thebuilt intelephonediallerwill alertyou oryourmonitoring station ofany
alarmoradverseevent 24 Hoursaday.Thishighlysophisticatedcommunications
systemiscapableofidentifying and reporting manydifferentevents.Forfull
detailspleasecontactyourinstaller.
All ofthesystemconfiguration information isstoredinnon volatilememory
whichmeansthatmanyoftheoptionscanbeprogrammedon sitebytheinstaller
to bestsuit yourneeds.Thisdataisretainedevenwhenthepowerisdisconnected
to thesystem.
Staymodeallowsyou to armthesystemwith predeterminedareasdisabled. This
meansthatyou canarmyoursystematnight whileyou arestill athomethus
giving you personalprotection.

BasicSystem Operation
Theoverallpurposeofyouralarmsystemistodeteranywould beintruderfrom
entering yourpremises.
Beforeleaving yourhomeorofficemakesureallthewindowsand doorsareclosed.
Keyin yourdesignatedcodefollowedbytheAWAY button.Youralarmsystemwill
now armand commence counting down thepre-programmedexit time.
You should exit thebuilding during thistimeclosing theexitpathon yourway.
Aftertheexit timeexpires,along beepwill beheardand anyunsealedzoneswill
automaticallybeisolated.
Thesystemisnow readyto accept alarms.
Ifasealedzoneisnowopened, anumberofpre-programmedeventswill occur.
Following isatypicalsequenceofevents.
Thealarmsystemwill activatetheaudibledevicessuchassirensandtriggerstrobeand
thedialler.Thediallerwill thentransmitall relevantalarminformationviathe
telephonelinealerting therespectivepersonsofthecurrent stateofevents.
Thesirentimerwillcommencecounting down assoon asanalarmoccurs.Whenthe
timeexpiresthesirenwillbeautomaticallyturnedoffand placedinto areadystatefor
thenextalarm.
Upon yourreturn,thestrobelight will beoperating informing you thattherehasbeenan
alarm.
Oneoranumberofzoneswill beflashing allowing you to identifytheparticularzone
thathascausedthealarmcondition.
Thenext timethealarmsystemisarmedtheindicatorswill beclearedautomatically.
Thisisaverybasicoutlineofthegeneralsystemoperation.Astherearemanyfeatures
availablein the Solution-8,therecouldbenumerousvariationsfromtheabove
sequence.

TheConsole
Theconsoleisthecommunicationsinterface betweenyouandyouralarmsystem.It
allowsyou to issuecommandsand offersboth visualand audibleindicationsthatguide
you through thegeneraloperation.

ExtinguishMode
Thisoption whenprogrammedbyyourinstallerwill causetheindicatorson your
consoleto automatically extinguishiftheconsoleisnot usedforaperiod ofsixty
seconds.At anytimetheindicatorscanbebroughtbackto anilluminatedstateby
pressing abutton, analarmcondition orwhenthesystemisinentrytime.Theindicators
will not illuminateifasilent alarmistriggered.
NOTE:
Thisoption canonlybeprogrammedbyyourinstaller.
ConsoleOperations
Introduction
Thefollowing pageswill describehowto useand interpretthemanyconsolefunctions
thatareavailableonthe Solution-8.
Mostfunctionsareperformedusing themastercode.
Beforeattempting to enteranyofthemastercodefunctionsensurethatthesystemisin
thedisarmedstateand thatthereareno alarmmemoryindicatorsflashing. Ifthisisnot
thecasethefollowing will berequired.
Ifthezoneindicatorsareflashing fastatthreepulsespersecond, keyinyourmaster
codefollowedbytheAWAYbutton.
Ifthepanelbecomesarmed, (ie.theAWAY indicatorisilluminated)keyinyourcode
followedbytheAWAY button again. Thiswillplace thesystembackinto thedisarmed
state.
Ifthesystemisnotdisarmed,(ie.theAWAYorSTAY indicatorsareilluminated)key
in yourcodefollowedbytheAWAYbutton.
Thefactorydefault mastercodeis 2580. Thiscodecanbechangedatanytimetherefore
ifyoursystemmastercodediffersfromthedefault, pleasesubstituteyourexisting
mastercodeinthefollowing examples.
Thiscodeallowsyou to changeanyuserscodeand eventhemastercodeitself.Itisalso
theonlycodethatallowstheexecutionofspecialfunctionsasdetailedlaterin this
manual.
Codescanbeup to sixdigitsinlength. Thisisdependent on theconfiguration setup by
you installer.

Thetrailing zerosmusthoweverbeenteredwheneveraspecialmastercodeoperation is

heartwo beepsand thecorresponding zoneindicatorwillilluminate.Usernumbernine

FAULTand zonefourindicatorswill illuminate.

Arming in Awaymode

TheAWAY indicatorwill illuminate,twobeepswill beheardand yourpreprogrammed
exit timewillnowbegin.
At theend ofthisexit timeanyunsealedzonewill beexcluded, forexampleifa
window isleftopened.
Ifthewindow isclosed,thiszonenow becomesanactivepartofthesystem.Opening
thewindow afterthistimewillcauseanalarmcondition.
IftheAWAY indicatordoesnot illuminateand along beepisheard, forcedarming is
not permitted. Ifthisisthecasethenyou mustensurethatall zonesaresealedor
manuallyisolatedbeforethesystemwill arm.
Arming in Staymode

STAY modeiswhenthesystemisarmedwith predefinedzonesautomaticallyisolated
(thesezonesmustbedefinedbyyourinstaller).
Whenthereisaneedto armthesystemperimeteronly,thismodeisextremelyhandy.It
automaticallydisablestheinteriordetection zonesallowing formovement within the
protectedarea whileatthesametimearming theperimeterzones.
Toactivatethesystemin STAY modekeyinyourcodefollowedbytheSTAYbutton.
TheSTAYindicatorwillilluminateand two beepswill beheard. Anyzonesthathave
beenprogrammedforSTAYmodewill beautomaticallyisolatedand theirrespective
indicatorswill begin to flashslowlyuntil exit timeexpires.Attheend ofexit timethe
zoneindicatorswill extinguish.
Thepreprogrammedexittimerwill nowstart.Whenthistimerexpires,anyunsealed
zone,sayawindow with areedswitchbeing leftopen, willbeignoredattheend ofexit
timeand placedinto automaticexclusion.
Ifthewindow isthenclosed, thiszonebecomesanactivepartofthesystem.Opening
thewindow afterthistimewillcauseanalarmcondition.
IftheSTAY indicatordoesnot illuminateand along beepisheardthismeansthat
forcedarming isnot permitted. Anyunsealedzoneswill needto besealedormanually
isolatedbeforethesystemwill arm.

Disarming

TodisarmthesystemkeyinyourcodefollowedbytheAWAY orSTAY button.
TheSTAY orAWAY indicatorswill extinguishand two beepswill beheard.
Isolating zones

Whenazoneisisolatedaccess isallowedintothatzoneatalltimes.Thiscanbeuseful
ifyou wishto leaveapetinthegarageforoneevening whileyou areout.
Whenyou needtoisolatezonespress theSTAY button.Three beepswill beheardand
theSTAY indicatorwill begin to flashindicating entryto theisolation mode.
Keyin thenumberscorresponding to thezonesthatneedto beisolated. Aseachzoneis
isolated, thecorresponding zoneindicatorwillbegin to flashslowlyatonepulseper
second.
Ifamistakeismade,keyin thezonenumberthatwasincorrectlyentered. Thiszoneis
now nolongerisolated,and thezoneindicatorwillstop flashing asthezonereturnsto
normal.
Whenthecorrectzonesareisolatedpress AWAY buttonto exit theisolation mode.The
STAY indicatorwill extinguishand threebeepswillbeheardto indicateasuccessful
exit fromtheisolation mode.
Anyisolatedzoneswillnowcontinueto flash.
Ifazoneisprogrammedasatwenty fourhourtype,itcannot beisolated. Ifisolation of
thiszoneisattemptedalong beepwill beheardto indicateadisallowedisolation.
Arming thesystemwill now causeonlythosezoneswhicharenot isolatedto
becomeactive.
Thenext timethesystemisdisarmedtheisolatedzoneswill becleared
automatically.Thisprocedurecanberepeatedasmanytimesasrequired. See
STAY modeoperation forautomaticisolation offrequentlyisolatedzones.

Dayalarmisafeaturecapableofindicating thatoneoranumberofzonesarecurrently
opened(thespecificzoneswill needto beassignedbyyourinstaller).
Letusassumethatyourinstallerhasprogrammedthefront doorforDayAlarm, an
indication will begiveneverytimethefrontdoorisopened.
Thisindicatorcould beyourconsolebuzzeroranyotherexternalwarning deviceof
yourchoice.
Itshould benotedthatthisfeatureonlyworkswhilethesystemisinthedisarmedstate
and will not giveanyindication whenthesystemisarmedin eithertheAWAYor
STAY modes.
Astheremaybeaneedfrom timeto timeto disablethisfeature,youhavetheabilityto
do soviatheconsole.Simplyturnthedayalarmon and ofasisrequired.
ToturnDayAlarmon keyinyourMASTERcodeorspecialfunction code9999
followedbythenumber'7'thentheAWAY button. Threebeepswillbeheardto
confirmavalid activation ofdayalarmmode.
Pleasenotethatthereisno visualdisplayontheconsoleinforming you thatDayAlarm
hasbeenturnedon.
Toverifycorrectoperation violateoneoftheDayAlarmzonesand ensurethatyour
indicatorisworking appropriately.
ToturndayalarmoffkeyintheMASTERcodeorspecialfunction code9999 followed
bythenumber'7'thentheAWAY button. Two beepswill beheardto indicatethatday
alarmmodehasbeendisabled.

Thisfeatureallowsyou to playbackthelastteneventsthathaveoccurredto thesystem.
TheRECALL modereportsall alarmsand arming ordisarming ofthesystemin the
STAY orAWAYmodes.Thisfunction helpswith troubleshooting ofthesystem.The
alarmmemoryeventsaredisplayedviatheconsoleindicators.
ToentertheALARM MEMORYRECALL modekeyin yourMASTERCODE
followedbythenumber'3'thentheAWAY button. Threebeepswillbeheardto
indicatesuccessful entryto theALARM RECALL MODE.
Theeventswill beplayedbackviathezoneindicatorson theconsolein reverse
chronologicalorder.

Using WalkTestModeyou cantestdetectiondevicesto ensurethattheyarefunctioning
correctly,eg:to checkareedswitchon adoor.
ToturnWalkTeston, isolateanyzonesthatarenot requiredforwalk testing (see
manuallyisolating oneormoreburglaryzones).
Now keyin theMASTERCODEfollowedbythenumber'4'thenAWAY button. Three
beepswill beheardindicating successful entryinto theWalkTestmode.Theconsole
willbeeponce everysecond whilethesystemisin thewalktestmode.
Everytimeazoneissealedorunsealedtheexternalsiren(SPK1 &SPK2)willsound a
singlebeepand thesystemconsolewillgivealongbeepindicatingthatthezoneis
functioning correctly.
ToturnWalkTestoffpress theAWAY button, two beepswill beheardand thesystem
will returnto normal.
ConsoleDuress Alarm

Thisfunction allowsthesystemto bedisarmedand atthesametimeinitiateaduress
signalviathediallerto themonitoring station.
ADuress alarmwill onlyworkwhenyou aredisarming thecontrol paneland no visual
displaywill begivento indicatethataduress alarmhasbeensuccessfully activated.
Toinitiatethissilentalarmkeyin anyofthesystemcodesfollowedbythenumber'9'
thentheAWAYbutton.
Thesystemwill appeartodisarmnormallybutwill in factactivatethedialler(where
programmed)causing itto callthemonitoring station.

ConsolePanicAlarm
APANICALARM canbetriggeredbypressing anytwo buttonsin theoutsidecolumns
simultaneouslyon theconsole.Thebuttonsmustbehorizontallyadjacent.
Thisfunction canbeprogrammedbytheinstallertoeitherbeasilentoranaudible
alarm.Once thepanicalarmhasbeeninitiateditwillbesent viathediallertothe
monitoringstation.
Example; Press buttons'1'and '3', '4'and '6'or'7'and '9'simultaneously to cause
apanicalarm.
NOTE:
Apanicalarmisa24 houralarmandcanbeactivatedany timeofthedayand no visual
displaywill begivenbytheconsoleto indicatethatapanicalarmhasbeenactivated.
Howeveralong audiblebeepwill begivenatyourconsoleto indicatethatyourpanic
requesthasbeenaccepted.
ConsoleTamper
An alarmcanbetriggerediftheconsoleisbeing tamperedwith.Suchanevent

differentfunctions.Forexampleyoucould haveacodethatopensacomputerroom
doorwhererestrictedaccess isrequired.
ItshouldbenotedthatAuxiliarycodesonlyoperatewhenthesystemisin thedisarmed
state.
Whenanauxiliarycodeisenteredapre-programmedsequence ofeventswill occur.
Thissequence will havebeenprogrammedbyyourinstaller.
Toactivateanauxiliarycodesimplykeyinyourprogrammedauxiliarycodefollowed
bytheAWAY button,two beepswill beheardand theprogrammedeventswill occur.

Thereare32datalocationssetasidefordomesticdialling, eachofwhichiscapableof
storing 1digit. Thiswill allow up tofour7digitphonenumbersto beprogrammed.
Toprogramthedesiredphonenumbers,firstensurethesystemisdisarmedandthat
therearenoalarmmemoriespresent. Ifthisin notthecasethenturnthesystemon and
off to clearandalarmmemories.
EntertheMastercode+2+theAWAY button.Threebeepswillbeheardand the
STAY and AWAYindicatorson theconsolewillflashsimultaneouslyindicating a
successfulentrytothedomesticphonenumberprogramming mode.
Ifonelong beepisheardentryhasbeendeniedand you shouldcheckwith yourinstaller
to see ifdomesticdialling hasbeenenabledon yoursystem.
Afterasuccessfulentry,ifphonenumbershavealreadybeenprogrammed, thepanel
will begin to displaythenumbersviathesystemconsoleusing thezoneindicators.
Thefirstnumberwillbedisplayedfortwo secondsandthenabeepwillbeheardasthe
next numberisdisplayed. You maywatchasallstorednumbersaredisplayedbefore
programming anynewnumbers,orstarttoprogramanewphonenumberbysimply
entering thenewnumber.
Afterallthedigitsin thefirstphonenumberhavebeenentered,press theSTAY button
to indicatetheend ofthefirstphonenumber.
You maynow enterasecond, thirdorfourthphonenumberifrequiredbyfollowing the
aboveprocedure.
NOTE:
Ifthereismorethanonephonenumberprogrammedand you wishto changeoneof
them,thenyou willneedtore-programallofthestoredphonenumbersaswellasthe
newnumber.
Whenallrequiredphonenumbershavebeenprogrammed, exit theprogramming mode
bypressing theAWAY button.
Ifatanytimeyou wishto viewthestorednumbersthenentertheMastercode+2+the
AWAY button.

firstdigit ofthefirstnumberwillbedisplayed.Ifno buttonsarepressedwithin 10
secondsthenthemodewillbeexitedautomatically oryoucanpress theAWAYbutton
to exit atanytime.

Whenviewing thenumbersviatheconsolenotethata9isrepresentedbythefault
indicator.Azeroin thephonenumberisrepresentedbythefaultandzone1indicators.
Theendofthenumberisrepresentedbythefault and zone4indicators.
Dialling Function
Whenthe Solution-8 istriggered, it will commence dialling thefirstprogrammed
phonenumber.Ifabusyorengagedtoneisdetectedthenthepanelwill hang up and
commencedialling thesecond number,ifthereisoneprogrammed.
Thefirstcallwill howeverbecountedas1unsuccessful dialling attempt. Amaximum
of6callsperalarmeventwill bemade.Thiscount includesanyunsuccessful callsand
will resetifthezonere-triggerscausingafurther6attemptsto bemade.
Thecontrol panelwillautomaticallystop calling after6attemptsor3successful calls.
Ifbusytoneisnot detectedthenthepanelwill assumethatthephonehasbeenanswered
and will begin sending itstransmission.
Thetransmissionconsistsofasirentonefollowedbyaunitidentification beep. The
identification beepwill allow thecustomerto verifywhichpanelhasmadethecallif
morethanonepanelisreporting tothesamephonenumber.Forexampleyourhome
and officecould bereporting toyourholidayhouse.
Oncethecall hasbeenreceived, ifitisnotacknowledgedusing anEDMcall
acknowledger,(PartNumberCC911)thenthepanelwillcontinuesending its
transmissionforaperiod of2minutes,afterwhichit will hang up and commence
dialling thenext phonenumber.Ifthecallisacknowledgedthenthecontrol panelwill
hang up and no furthercallswill bemadeforthatalarm.
Ifthepanelisnot programmedforupload/downloadthenit ispossibleto interrogateit
afterthecallhasbeenacknowledged.
Todo this,simply callthephonenumberthatthepanelisconnectedto.Thecontrol
panelwillanswerthecall afterthepre-pre-programmedring count haselapsed. Asiren
tonewill again beheardaswell asanalarmtypeindication beep. Thealarmtypebeeps
will indicatewhetheraburglaryor24 Houralarmhasoccurred.

PagerDiallingFormats
Pagerreporting formatshavebeenintroducedsothatalarmand systeminformationcan
betransferredto apocketpagerallowing you to receiveinformation fromyouralarm
systematanytime.
Two transmission formatsareavailable,thefirstbeing BasicPagerFormatwhichisthe
simplestto interpret.Theclient identification numberfollowedbyzoneinformationand
systemstatusinformation. See theexamplebelow.
ThesecondformatistheAdvancedPagerFormat, theinformation displayedislargely
dependenton how thesystemhasbeenprogrammedand should beexplainedbyyou
installer.
Both formatstransmit 3digitsfortheclient identification numbermaking it possibleto
differentiatebetween999 differentsystemswhenanumberofalarmsystemsare
reporting totheonepagernumber.
