GENERAL BATTERY-OPERATED MACHINE
SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING: Read all safety warnings,
instructions, illustrations and specications provided
with this machine. Failure to follow all instructions listed
below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious
injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “machine” in the warnings refers to your mains-
operated (corded) machine or battery-operated (cordless)
machine.
WORK AREA SAFETY
◾Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark
areas invite accidents.
◾Do not operate machines in explosive
atmospheres, such as in the presence of
ammable liquids, gases or dust. Machines create
sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
◾Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a machine. Distractions can cause you to
lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
◾Machine plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) machines.
Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk
of electric shock.
◾Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
◾Do not expose power tools to rain or wet
conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
◾Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the machine. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving
parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk
of electric shock.
◾When operating a machine outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of
a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
◾If operating a power tool in a damp location is
unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD)
protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of
electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
◾Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a machine. Do
not use a machine while you are tired or under
the inuence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A
moment of inattention while operating machines may
result in serious personal injury.
◾Use personal protective equipment. Always wear
eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust
mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce
personal injuries.
◾Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch
is in the off-position before connecting to power
source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying
the machine. Carrying machines with your nger
on the switch or energizing machines that have the
switch on invites accidents.
◾Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the machine on. A wrench or a key left
attached to a rotating part of the machine may result
in personal injury.
◾Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance
at all times. This enables better control of the
machine in unexpected situations.
◾Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from
moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can
be caught in moving parts.
◾If devices are provided for the connection of dust
extraction and collection facilities, ensure these
are connected and properly used. Use of dust
collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
◾Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of
machines allow you to become complacent and
ignore machine safety principles. A careless action
can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
MACHINE USE AND CARE
◾Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine
for your application. The correct machine will do
the job better and safer at the rate for which it was
designed.
◾Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn
it on and off. Any machine that cannot be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
◾Disconnect the plug from the power source and/
or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from
the machine before making any adjustments,

56 VOLT LITHIUM-ION COMMERCIAL CORDLESS ARTICULATING POLE HEDGE TRIMMER — HTX5300-PA 9
changing accessories, or storing machines. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the machine accidentally.
◾Store idle machines out of the reach of children
and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the
machine or these instructions to operate the
machine. Machines are dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
◾Maintain machines and accessories. Check for
misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage
of parts and any other condition that may affect
the machine’s operation. If damaged, have the
machine repaired before use. Many accidents are
caused by poorly maintained machines.
◾Keep cutting machines sharp and clean. Properly
maintained cutting machines with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
◾Use the machine, accessories and machine bits
etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking
into account the working conditions and the work
to be performed. Use of the machine for operations
different from those intended could result in a
hazardous situation.
◾Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean
and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and
grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and
control of the machine in unexpected situations.
BATTERY MACHINE USE AND CARE
◾Recharge only with the charger specied by the
manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type
of battery pack may create a risk of re when used
with another battery pack.
◾Use machines only with specically designated
battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may
create a risk of injury and re.
◾When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from
other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys,
nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can
make a connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause
burns or a re.
◾Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected
from the battery; avoid contact. If contact
accidentally occurs, ush with water. If liquid
contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help.
Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation
or burns.
◾Do not use a battery pack or machine that is
damaged or modied. Damaged or modied batteries
may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in re,
explosion or risk of injury.
◾Do not expose a battery pack or machine to
re or excessive temperature. Exposure to re or
temperature above 130 °C may cause explosion.
◾Follow all charging instructions and do not
charge the battery pack or machine outside the
temperature range specied in the instructions.
Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the
specied range may damage the battery and increase
the risk of re.
SERVICE
◾Have your machine serviced by a qualied repair
person using only identical replacement parts.
This will ensure that the safety of the machine is
maintained.
◾Never service damaged battery packs. Service
of battery packs should only be performed by the
manufacturer or authorized service providers.

USING THE HEDGE TRIMMER
DANGER: If the blade jams on any electrical
cord or line, DO NOT TOUCH THE BLADES! IT
CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND VERY
DANGEROUS. Continue to hold the hedge trimmer

56 VOLT LITHIUM-ION COMMERCIAL CORDLESS ARTICULATING POLE HEDGE TRIMMER — HTX5300-PA 15
by the insulated rear handle or lay it down and away
from you in a safe manner. Disconnect the electrical
service to the damaged line or cord before attempting
to free the blades from the line or cord. Failure to
heed this warning will result in serious personal injury
or possible death.
WARNING: If any parts are missing, damaged or
broken, do not operate your trimmer until they have
been replaced. Failure to do so could result in possibly
serious personal injury.
WARNING: To prevent serious personal injury,
always use both the front handle and the rear handle
to hold the hedge trimmer during operation.
WARNING: To prevent serious personal injury,
keep hands away from blades. Do not attempt to
remove cut material or hold material to be cut when
the blades are moving. Make sure that the blades
have completely stopped and the battery pack is
removed before clearing jammed material from
blades. Do not grasp the exposed cutting blades or
cutting edges when picking up or holding the unit.
WARNING: Clear the area to be cut before each use.
Remove all objects, such as cords, lights, wire, or string
which can become entangled in the cutting blade and
create a risk of serious personal injury.
◾Before starting the hedge trimmer, maintain proper
footing and balance and do not overreach. Do not
operate the trimmer in a tree, on a ladder, from a
rooftop, or any unstable support. Wear safety goggles,
non-skid footwear and rubber gloves. Hold the unit
with both hands, with the cutting blade directed away
from you.
◾Use with the shoulder strap for safe and comfortable
operation.
◾Do not trim too much at once. This can cause the
blades to bind and slow down, reducing the cutting
efciency.
◾Do not force the hedge trimmer through heavy
shrubbery. This can cause the blades to bind and slow
down. If the blades slow down, reduce the pace of
your work.
◾When trimming new growth, use a wide sweeping
action, so that the stems are fed directly into the
cutting blade. Older growth will have thicker stems
and will be trimmed most easily by using a back-and-
forth motion.
◾Always cut stems or twigs that are less than 28 mm
thick. Use a non-powered hand saw or pruning saw to
trim large stems.
Close Cutting to the Ground
1. Cut close to the ground from a standing position, e.g.
for trimming low shrubs.
2. Set the cutting blades to a suitable angle.
3. Swing the hedge trimmer right and left in an arc. and
do not rest the cutter blade on the ground (Fig. L).
Cutting the side of the hedge (Fig. M1 & M2)
1. Set the cutting blades to a suitable angle.
2. Slowly swing the hedge trimmer up and down in an
arc as you move along the hedge.
Cutting the top of the hedge (Fig. N)
1. Hold the cutting blades at an angle of 0° to 10° to
the top of the hedge.
2. Swing the hedge trimmer horizontally and in an arc
while making the cut.
Cutting Overhead (Fig. P1 & P2)
1. Set the cutting blades completely to a suitable angle.
2. Hold the hedge trimmer and slowly swing it in an arc
to make maximum use of its reach.
WARNING: Any overhead working position is tiring.
To minimize the risk of accidents, work in such positions
for short periods only. Set the angle of the blades to
maximum so that the machine can be held in a lower,
less tiring position while still providing adequate reach.
Tip Protector (Fig. Q)
The tip protector is used to protect the outer end of
the blade.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: When servicing, only use identical
replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a
hazard or cause product damage. To ensure safety and
reliability, all repairs should be performed by a qualied
service technician.
WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury, always
remove the battery pack from the product when cleaning
or performing any maintenance.
CLEANING
◾Use a soft brush to remove debris from all air intakes
and cutting blade.
◾To remove pitch and other sticky residue, spray the
blades with resin solvent. Run the motor briey so that
the solvent is evenly distributed, then wipe the surface
with a dry cloth.

WARNING: Never use water for cleaning your
trimmer. Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts.
Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various
types of commercial solvents. Use clean cloth to remove
dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.
All hedge trimmer service, other than the items
listed in these maintenance instructions, should be
performed by competent hedge trimmer service
personnel.
SHARPENING THE BLADES
When cutting performance and behavior begin to
deteriorate, re-sharpen the blades. It is recommended
to have the blades re-sharpened by a qualied service
technician.
NOTICE: Do not operate your hedge trimmer with dull or
damaged blades. This may cause overload and will give
unsatisfactory cutting results.
LUBRICATING THE BLADES (Fig. R)
For best operation and longer blade life, lubricate the
hedge trimmer blades with light-weight machine oil
before and after each use.
Remove the battery pack and lay the trimmer onto
a at surface. Apply the oil along the edge of the top
blade.
NOTICE: For extended using period, oil the blade during
cutting operation.
WARNING: Do not oil while the hedge trimmer is
running.
TRANSMISSION GEARS LUBRICATION (FIG. S)
For best operation and longer lifetime, lubricate the
transmission gears in the cutting head and power
head assemblies with a special grease (5-6 ml in #1,
#2, #3, #4 and #5 oil hole each time) after every 50
hours operation.
The grease should meet the following requirements:
◾NLGI Grade Penetration: NLGI-2;
◾Thickener Type: Polyurea;
◾Recommended Operating Temperature Range: -40°C
to 180°C;
◾Other than above, the grease should also be shear
stable with exceptional pressure characteristics and
excellent anti-wear property, and perfect oxidation
stability.
Remove the battery pack and the sealing bolts (Fig. S).
Lubricating the gear cases through the oil-hole.
NOTICE: Don‘t fully ll the gear case with grease.
WARNING: The sealing bolt #4 shall not be lost.
Operation of the machine without it may result in injury to
the user. Please be sure to secure it in place before using
the machine.
TRANSPORTING AND STORING
◾Remove the battery pack from the unit.
◾Clean the unit thoroughly before storing it.
◾Always place the blade sheath onto the cutting blades
before storing or transporting. Use caution to avoid the
sharp teeth of the blades. For saving space, fold the
hedge trimmer to its storage position (see Fig. D1).
◾Store the hedge trimmer indoors, in a dry place that is
inaccessible to children.
◾Keep away from corrosive agents such as garden
chemicals and deicing salts.
WARNING: Blades are sharp. When handling
the blade assembly, wear non-slip, heavy-duty
protective gloves. Do not place your hand or ngers
between blades or in any position where they could
get pinched or cut. NEVER touch blades or service the
unit with battery pack installed.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Do not dispose of electrical appliances as
unsorted municipal waste, use separate
collection facilities.
Contact your local government for
information regarding the collection
systems available.
If electrical appliances are disposed of in
landlls or dumps, hazardous substances
can leak into the groundwater and get
into the food chain, damaging your health
and well-being.
