PREPARATIONFORUSE
UNPACKINGAND SET-UP
•Removethe mainunitand speakersfromthe carton and removeall packing
materialsfromthe components.Pleasesavethe carton and packing materials,
ifpossible,incasethe uniteverneedstobe returned forservice.The original
carton and packing materialsarethe onlywaytoprotectthe unitfromdamage
intransit.
•Removeanydescriptivelabelsorstickersfromthe frontortop ofthe units.Do
notremoveanylabelsfromthe back orbottomofthe units.
•Somesystemsareshippedwithapaper/cardboard“disc”intheCDcompartment.
The purposeofthis“disc”istopreventthe delicatelaserfrommoving during
shipment. Press the CDOPENbutton toopen the CDdoor.If thereisanypaper/
cardboarddisc inthe compartment, carefullyremoveand discarditnow.
•Removethe twist-tiefromthe ACpowercordand extend ittoitsfull length.
•Unwind the FMlead wireantenna and extend ittoitsfull length.
•Placethe mainunitinthe desired location.It shouldbe on alevelsurface,
convenienttoan ACoutlet, and awayfromdirectsunlightorsourcesofheat,
dust, moistureorhumidity.Donotblock the ventilation slotson the back ofthe
mainunit.
•Setthe FMMODE(BEATCUT)switchon the back paneltothe STEREO
position,ifnecessary.
SPEAKERCONNECTION
•Connectthe speakersbeforeyou plug the unitin.
•Unwind the speakercordscompletelyand connectthe speakerplugstothe left/
rightspeakerjacks on the back panel.
•You mayplacethe speakersalongside the mainunitorseparatethemasfaras
the cordswill allowformaximumstereo separation.
Note:If you do placethe speakersalongside the mainunit, itisrecommended to
allowasmall gap between the unitand the speakers.Thiswill reducethe
possibilityofthe CD playerskipping when the setisplayed athigh volume.

•You maywrap anyexcess speakerwirearound the wireholderson the back of
eachspeakercabinet.
POWERSUPPLY
•Afterconnecting the speakersand extending the FMlead wireantenna as
described above,you arereadytoconnectthe ACplug toa110 -120V60HzAC
outlet.
•Thisunithasapolarized ACplug withone wide blade and one narrowblade.
Thisplug will onlyfitintoamatching polarized ACoutlet. Thisisasafetyfeature
toreducethe possibilityofelectricshock.If thisplug will notfitinyourACoutlet,
you probablyhavean outdated non-polarized outlet. You shouldhaveyour
outdated outletchanged byaqualified,licensed electrician.Donotfilethe wide
blade on the plug,orusean adaptertomakethe plug fitintoyouroutlet. This
defeatsthe safetyfeatureand couldexposeyou toelectricshock.
•Thissetisdesigned tooperateon 110 -120V60HzAChousecurrentonly.
Operating thisseton anyotherpowersupplymaycausedamage tothe unit
whichisnotcovered byyourwarranty.

NORMALPLAYBACK
1.PressthePOWERbuttontoturntheunit‘On’.ThePOWERLEDindicatorcomes
on.
2.Setthe Function selectortoCD.Twodashes“––”appearinthe CD display.
Thisindicatesthatthereisno disc inthe player,orthatthe playercannotread
the disc.
3.Press the CD doorOPENbutton.
4.PlaceaCD on the centerspindlewiththe printed labelside facing up and close
the CD door.
5.The playerwill read the TableofContentson the disc and the displaywill show
the totalnumberoftracks on the disc.
6.Press the CD PLAY/PAUSE button.Playback will beginon Track 1.The
displayshowsthe numberofthe track being played and the Play/PauseLED
Indicator“Dot”comeson.
7.Adjustthe VOLUMEcontrol,asdesired.
8.Afterthe lasttrack hasbeen played,the disc stopsand the displayagainshows
the totalnumberoftracks on the disc.The LEDPlay/PauseIndicator“Dot”goes
off.
Tostop playback beforethe disc ends,press the STOPbutton.The disc stops
immediatelyand the displayshowsthe totalnumberoftracks on the disc.
CD PAUSE CONTROL
Tostop CD playback temporarily,press the PLAY/PAUSE button againduring
playback.The sound stopsand the Play/PauseIndicator“Dot”,whichfollowsthe
track number,flashestoindicateyou areinPausemode.However,the disc
continuestospin.Press the PLAY/PAUSE button oncemoretocancelPause
and resumeplayback.The sound returnsand the Play/PauseIndicatorstops
flashing.

TOBEGINPLAYBACK FROMASPECIFICTRACK
1. Insertyourdisc and waituntil the displayshowsthe totalnumberoftracks.
2.Press eitherthe SkipForwardorReversebutton until the desired track
numberflashesinthe display.Then press the PLAY/PAUSE button tostart
playback on thattrack.
Note:You mustpress the PLAY/PAUSE button within4secondsafterselecting
the track numberorthe displaywill returntothe totaltrack numberdisplay.
TOSKIPTRACKSDURINGPLAYBACK
•Press the SkipForwardbutton onceduring playback toskiptothe beginning
ofthe nexttrack.Press repeatedlytoskiptohighernumbered tracks.
•PresstheSkipReversebuttononceduringplaybacktoreturntothebeginning
ofthe currenttrack.Press repeatedlytoskiptolowernumbered tracks.
HIGH-SPEEDMUSICSEARCH
Thisfeatureallowsyou tosearchforwardorbackwardathigh speed tolocatea
specificmusicalpassage withinatrack.
•Tosearchforwardorbackwardduring playback,depress and holdthe Skip/
SearchForwardorReversebuttons.The playermovesforwardor
backwardathigh-speed.Releasethe button when you locatethe desired
passage.Normalplayback resumeswhen the Searchbuttonsarereleased.
Note:The volumeisautomaticallyreduced during high-speed searchand returns
tonormalwhen normalplayback resumes.

PROGRAMMEDPLAYBACK
Thisfeatureallowsyou toprogramup to19 tracks on aCD toplayinanyorder
you desire.You can programthe playertoskipthe tracks you do notlikeand to
repeatthe tracks you do like.
Note:The CD playermustbe inthe Stop mode inordertoenteraprograminthe
Memory.
1. If the disc isplaying,press the STOPbutton sothatthe totalnumberof
tracks appearson the display.
2.Press the PROGRAMbuttononce.The
PROGRAMLEDIndicatorbeginsto
flash,and aflashing ‘Zero’“0”appears
inthe display.
3.Press eitherthe SkipForwardor
Reversebutton toselectthe first
track you wishtoprogram.
Example:Track #7.
The selected track numberflashesin
the display.
4.Press the PROGRAMbutton againto
enterthe selected track numberinthe
programMemory.The track number
disappearsand the flashing ‘Zero’“0”
returns.
5.RepeatSteps3and 4tocontinue
entering tracksintheprogramMemory.
You mayprogramtracks toplaymore
than once,ifdesired.You can program
up to19 tracks total.
6.When you havefinished entering tracks inthe programmemory,press the
PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginprogrammed playback.The displaywill show
the track numberofthe firsttrack you entered and playback will beginon that
track.The PROGRAMLEDIndicatorcontinuesflashing until all the
programmed tracks haveplayed.When the lasttrack hasplayed,the player
stops,the PROGRAMLEDIndicatorgoes‘Off’,and the displayagainshows
the totalnumberoftracks on the disc.

7. If you makeamistakewhileprogramming tracks,ortocancelthe program
completely,pressthe PROGRAMbuttonsothatthePROGRAMLEDIndicator
isflashing,and then press STOPbutton.The programmayalsobe canceled
byopening the CD door,selecting anotherfunction,orswitching the power’Off’.
REPEATPLAYBACK
Thisfeatureallowsyou torepeatasingletrack,orthe entiredisc automatically.
•To repeatasingletrack:
Press the REPEATbutton once.The “Dot”between the twodigitsofthe track
numberflashes.Thisindicatesyou selected the ‘RepeatOne’Mode.Now
select the desired track withthe SkipForwardorReversebuttons,
and press PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginplayback.The selected track will
be repeated continuously.
•To repeattheentiredisc:
Press the REPEATbutton twice.The “Dot”between the twodigitsofthe track
numberstays ‘On’.Thisindicatesyou selected the ‘RepeatAll’ Mode.Press the
PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginplayback.The entiredisc will be repeated
continuously.
Note:The RepeatPlayback featurecan be activated whilethe disc isstopped,
orwhilethe disc isplaying.
•TocanceltheRepeatMode,press the REPEATbuttonuntil the RepeatIndicator
“Dot”goes“off’.You can alsocancelRepeatMode bypressing the STOP
button,orbyswitching the Power‘Off’.
PROGRAMREPEAT
You mayalsorepeatthe tracks whichyou haveentered inthe ProgramMemory.
Firstenterthe desired tracks inthe ProgramMemory.
See ‘PROGRAMMEDPLAYBACK’Instructions.
Beforeyou press the PLAY/PAUSE button tostartthe program,press the
REPEATbutton twice,then press PLAY/PAUSE button.Yourprogrammed

3.Open the cassettecontrolkeycover.The fingernotchison the rightside ofthe
cabinet.
4.Press the STOP/EJECTkeytoopen the cassettedoor..
5. Insertaprerecorded cassetteintothe slotson the cassettedoor,withthe
exposed tape facing downand the full reelon the left. Closethe cassettedoor.
6.Press the PLAY keytobeginplayback and adjustthe volumecontrol,as
desired.
•Toadvanceorrewind the tape rapidly,press the F.FWDorREWIND
keys.When you reachthe desired pointon the tape,press the PLAY keyto
resumenormalplayback.
•Tostop the tape momentarily,press the PAUSE key.Press againto
cancelPauseand resumeplayback.
•Tostop the tape beforeitends,press the STOP/EJECTkey.Press again
toopen the cassettedoortoremoveyourtape.
7.When the tape ends,the AutoStop mechanismreleasesthe PLAY keyand
stopsthe tape motor.Press STOP/EJECTkeytoopen the cassettedoor
and removeyourtape.
Note:The AutoStop mechanismonlyfunctionsinthe PLAYand RECORD modes.
ItdoesnotstopthemechanismandmotorintheF.FWDorREWINDmodes.
You mustpress the STOPbutton tocancelF.FWDorREWIND operation
and shutthe motoroff.
8.When you arefinished listening,press the POWERbutton toshutthe system

MAKINGATAPE RECORDING
You can recorddirectlyfromthe RadioorCD playertothe cassetterecorder.
1.Press the POWERbutton toswitchthe system‘On’.The Power‘On’Indicator
comeson.
2.Selectthe sourceyou wishtorecord,RadioorCD,and followthe instructions
forthatfunction.
3.Press the STOP/EJECTbutton toopen the cassettedoor.Insertagood
qualityblankcassetteintothe slotson the doorwiththe exposed tape facing
downand the full reelon the left side.Closethe cassettedoor.
4.When you arereadytobeginrecording,press the RECORD key.The PLAYY
keywill alsoengage and recording begins.
•Thissystemfeaturesan AutomaticLevelControl(ALC)recording volume
circuitwhichcontrolsthe recording volumetopreventdistortion.The main
volumecontrolhasno effecton the recording.You mayraiseorlowerthe
VOLUMEcontrolduring the recording orshutitoff completely,ifdesired.
•You can usethe PAUSE keytostop the recording temporarilytoavoid
recording unwanted material,suchasradiocommercials.
5.When you arefinished recording,press the STOP/EJECTkeyoncetostop
the tape and,again,toopen the cassettedoor.
IMPORTANTNOTES ABOUTRECORDING
•Donotforcethe RECORD button.If itdoesnotengage easily,yourcassette
mayhaveamissing eraseprevention tab.
Refertothe section on “ABOUTCASSETTETAPES”formoreinformation.
•Whenyourecordoverpreviouslyrecordedmaterial,theoriginalmaterialiserased
asthe newmaterialisrecorded.
•Usegood quality,brand-nameblanktapesforrecording.However,do notuse
“Metal”or“CrO2(Chrome)” tape formulationsinthisrecorder.
•When recording fromAMradio,you mayexperiencean oscillation or‘Beating’
noise.If thisoccurs,setthe FMMODE/BEATCUTswitchon the back panelto
the oppositeposition.

STEREOHEADPHONEJACK
The stereo headphone jack islocated on the back panel.Connectasetofstereo
headphones(notincluded)witha3.5mm miniplug tothisjack forprivatelistening.
The speakersshutoff automaticallywhen headphonesareconnected tothe
headphone jack.
When using headphones,reducethe volumetoalowlevelbeforeyou connect
the headphones.Then connectthe headphones,putthemon,and gradually
increasethe volumetoacomfortablelevel.

ABOUTCASSETTETAPES
Wheneveryou recordon acassetteanypreviouslyrecorded materialiserased
asthe newmaterialisaccorded.Topreventyou fromaccidentallyerasing material
whichyou wishtosave,blankcassettesareequipped witheraseprevention tabs
foreachside ofthe tape.If the eraseprevention tab forside Aisremoved,you
cannotaccidentallyrecordon side A.The recordkeycannotbe depressed ifthe
eraseprevention tab on the cassettehasbeen removed.
Topreventaccidentalerasing on side Aofacassetteuseasmall screwdriveror
similartooltobreakoff the eraseprevention tab forside A,thispreventsthe
recordkeyfromlocking.
If lateryou do wishtorecordon side Aofthe cassette,coverthe tab opening with
apieceofcellophane tape.Thiswill allowthe recordkeytofunction again.
CASSETTECARE
Twocommon causesoftroubleexperienced when using cassettesare:
1.)Tape jamming —Leading touneven speed inplayback,and
2.)Tapetangling—Wherethetapewrapsitselfaroundvitalpartsofthemechanism.
Toreducethe likelihood oftheseproblemsoccurring,the following precautions
shouldbe observed:
•Check thatthereareno looselayersoftape visible
through the cassettecenterwindow(see Fig.1).
Takeupanylooselayers,usingapencilorhexagonal
barrelledballpointpen,beforeinsertingthecassette
intothe machine (see Fig.2).
•Ifthecassettefeels“tight”whileperformingoperation
shown(seeFig.2),thetapemaybejammingdueto
“ridges”formed inthe winding ofthe tape (visible
throughthecenterwindow).Thesemayberemoved,
inmostcases,byfastwinding ofthe cassettefrom
one end tothe otherand back again.

•Useonlywell-knownbrandsoftape.AvoiduseofC-120 cassettes.
Furthermore,do notexposecassettestodirectsunlight, dustoroil,and do not
touchthe tape surfaces.
HEAD CLEANING
The tape heads,pinchrollerand capstan requireperiodiccleaning.Thisremoves
particlesofthemetaloxidecoatingthatwearoffthetapeandaccumulateontheseparts
andimpairperformance.Switchoffthepower,presstheSTOP/EJECTkeytoopenthe
cassettedoor,andpressthePLAYkey.Cleanthetapeheads,pinchrollerandcapstan
withasoft clothorcotton pad dampened inisopropylalcoholorspecialtape head
cleaner.
COMPACTDISCCARE
•Toremoveadisc fromitsstorage case,press downon the centerofthe case
and lift the disc outs,holding itcarefullybythe edges.
•Fingerprintsand dustshouldbe carefullywiped off the disc’srecorded surface
withasoft cloth.Unlikeconventionalrecords,compactdiscs haveno groovesto
collectdustand microscopicdebris,sogentlywiping withasoft clothshould
removemostparticles.Wipe inastraightline fromthe inside tothe outside of
the disc.Small dustparticlesand lightstainswill haveabsolutelyno effecton
reproduction quality.

CAREOFTHECABINETS
•If the cabinetsbecomedustywipe themwithasoft drydustcloth.Donotuse
anywaxorpolishsprays on the cabinets.
•If the frontpanelbecomesdirtyorsmudged withfingerprintsitmaybe cleaned
withasoft clothslightlydampened withamildsoap and watersolution.Never
useabrasiveclothsorpolishesasthesewill marthe finishofyourunit.
CAUTION:
Neverallowanywaterorotherliquidstogetinside the unitwhilecleaning.
•Clean the disc periodicallywithasoft, lint-free,drycloth.Neverusedetergents
orabrasivecleanerstoclean the disc.If necessary,useaCD cleaning kit.
