2.0 Setup and Assembly
2.1 Handling Large Pullers
• Use a hoist and slings of suitable rated capacity to lift and
unload the puller.
• Know the weight of the complete puller assembly, including
puller, hydraulic cylinder and all attachments.
• If needed, support the puller with slings so that it can be
positioned horizontally. When reorienting the puller from
horizontal to the vertical position, incline the puller slowly and
carefully.
2.2 Installation of Long Jaws
Install long jaws as described in the following steps. Refer to
figures 1 through 5 for reference.
1. Remove the Grade 8 bolt connecting strap to jaw.
2. Using a hammer and punch, depress the peened area of
the puller lower body to allow the pin to pass.
3. Remove pin.
4. Remove and replace the standard jaw with the long jaw.
5. Reinstall pin.
6. Using a hammer and punch, peen the puller lower body to
retain pin.
7. Reattach strap with Grade 8 bolt.
8. Repeat steps 1-7 to install the remaining long jaws.
