1. Always disconnect the product from both the power source and host computer before performing any maintenance or repair procedure.

1.1 OVERVIEW
The EPSON Stylus Pro 5000 is a 6-color ink jet printer with professional
color output. Its major features include:
Professional color printing:
1440 (H) x 720 (V) dpi printing
Photo-reproduction quality (6-color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow,
black, light cyan, and light magenta)
MicroDot and Super MicroDot technology for very fine printing
PostScript printing (optional)
High speed printing:
Color 360 dpi on A4-size paper: 1.1 PPM (Bi-D printing)
Color 720 dpi on A4-size paper: 0.39 PPM (Bi-D printing)
Color 1440 dpi on A4-size paper: 0.39 PPM (Uni-D printing)
Three types of interface:
Bi-directional parallel interface (IEEE 1284.4/ECP support)
Macintosh serial interface (up to approx. 1.8 Mbps)
Optional Type-B interface card (Up to three 32MB SIMMs can be
installed in the same slot)
Low printing cost:
4 separate color ink cartridges: Black, Yellow, Cyan (with Light Cyan),
and Magenta (with Light Magenta)
Ink quantity sensor detects the amount of ink remaining
Long ink cartridge lifetimes:
Black: 3200 pages
Yellow: 3200 pages
Cyan and Magenta: 3000 pages
(5% coverage)
Note: Cyan and Magenta ink cartridges also hold Light Cyan and Light
Magenta inks. However, combining colors in a single cartridge does not
reduce the cartridge life span because light and regular inks are used
alternately, as needed.
Paper handling:
Two auto-feeding paper cassettes (second cassette optional)
Two manual-feed paths: one from the top cover of the first cassette
and one from the rear of the printer
Increased-capacity paper tray (250 cut sheets of 55 g/m2 paper;
optional lower paper cassette)
Sensors that detect paper size, paper type, and paper volume (for the
Automatic Sheet Feeder)
Note: Sensors do not work correctly if the paper size and media type
levers are set incorrectly.

Notes:
1. When the printer is not on, make sure that the printhead is capped.
2. When moving the printer, make sure that the printhead is capped and
the ink cartridges are installed.
3. If the printhead is not capped when the printer is off, turn the printer on.
The printer will automatically cap the printhead. Turn off the power after
capping the printhead.
4. Ink will freeze at 5
 F (  15  C) but will be useable if left for 3 hours at a
temperature of 77

BUFFER OPERATION
When there is no space left in the buffer, the Stylus Pro 5000 starts
sending the host a BUSY signal. If the host receives this signal for a long
time, it times out and stops sending data.
