Most elements are available in intermittent and continuously rated
duty cycles. Intermittent elements heat up quicker and get hotter than
continuous elements.
**Continuous elements MUST be tted if unit is to remain
continuously on for more than 2 minutes.
**Intermittent elements should not be left on continuously for
more than 2 minutes.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
SET-UP:
All hand-held Glo-Rings are packaged in Styrofoam
boxes. The box will contain the hand piece and a
bench stand. Depending on the unit ordered, each
hand piece will have a power supply cord attached.
The American plug is for use on 110/120V~,
50/60Hz mains supply. The European plug is for
use on 220/240V~, 50/60 Hz mains supply. Use a
properly grounded mains supply when using the
Glo-Ring hand tool.
To set up for use, assemble the hand piece and
quartz elements, ordered separately, by rmly
grasping the element near the base and gently
inserting the two contact pins into the sockets of the
heat sinks on the hand piece. Insert both elements
and be sure the elements are pushed in all the way.
Then install the wire guards into the holes drilled on
the top of the heat sinks.
! CAUTION: Never use elements which have
any broken quartz glass. Replace elements if
elements are cracked or broken. Environmental
conditions for proper operation should be
50°F - 104°F (10°C - 40°C) and 30-75% relative
humidity. The operation of the Glo-Ring heat
tool should be in an open well-ventilated work
space. This heat tool may be affected by outside
environmental disturbances.
OPERATION:
The hand-held units are available with or without
variable heat control. Units with the heat control
have a plastic wheel located on the lefthand side
of the hand piece which is rotated to provide
varying element temperatures. Units without the
heat control feature will immediately heat up to
approximately 1500°F(815°C) when the ON/OFF
button is activated.
The unit may be used either hand-held or stationary
on the bench stand provided. If using the bench
stand, it is recommended that the stand be secured
to the bench. Push the hand piece of the unit into
the bench stand to hold it. Slide the On/Off button
towards the elements to activate the unit, and
release to shut it off. If desired, the elements may
be locked on by tipping the On/Off switch upwards
while pushed forward. If using the unit on the bench
stand, turn the unit ON and lock the button, adjust
the temperature control if applicable and move the
material to be heated, through the elements. If
using the unit hand-held, move the tool along the
length of the material to be heated until the desired
results have been achieved.
! CAUTION: When working around the elements
caution should be used due to the high
temperatures of the elements and wire guards.
If the unit is being used intermittently, use the
intermittent elements, which will heat up faster.
If using the unit in a continuous mode, on the
bench stand with the lock-on button engaged,
use the continuous elements. See “Ordering
Information” for details on elements sizes and
types.
! CAUTION: Using intermittent elements in the
continuous mode for longer than 2 minutes may
cause them to burn out prematurely.
REPLACEMENT OF ELEMENTS:
Disconnect the hand piece from the mains supply
by unplugging the power supply cord. Make certain
that the elements have had sufcient time to cool
down. Firmly grasp the base of the element and
gently work the element out of the heat sink. This
procedure must be done for both elements. When
inserting new elements reverse the procedure
making certain that both elements are pushed in all
the way.
! CAUTION: The Glo-Ring Infrared Heat Tools
in operation, generate signicant heat and
should be treated with respect. Do not leave
units unattended when turned ON. When
changing elements, be sure unit is unplugged
from the power source and that the elements are
completely cooled to the touch. The elements
are manufactured from quartz glass. If dropped
or knocked sharply, they will break. If elements
are broken, replace immediately.
MAINTENANCE:
Keep units clean at all times and ensure that
elements and wire guards are securely installed. No
cleaning should be required in normal usage. No
other maintenance is required.
