Introduction
The Source 4WRD Color II is a replacement for a standard Source Four
burner assembly. It converts the HPL source to an RGBA (red, green, blue,
and amber) LED and provides a significant reduction in power consumption.
The Source 4WRD Color II uses DMX dimming and requires power from a
non-dimmable source. When not using DMX, you can use any of the
12presets or 5sequences on the Source 4WRD Color II.
The Source 4WRD Color II can also be used with the Source 4WRD PAR or
PARNel Fixture Body to create a Source 4WRD Color II PAR or PARNel
fixture. For best results, we recommend that you use the included diffusion
on the Source 4WRD PAR or PARNel Fixture Body when paired with the
Source 4WRD Color. For more information, see the Source 4WRD Color II
PAR and PARNel datasheet at etcconnect.com.

Safety
The Source 4WRD Color II fixture is intended for professional use only. Read
the entire manual before using this equipment.
WARNING: Note the following warnings before use:
• The Source 4WRD Color II is not user serviceable. Field
modification of the Source 4WRD Color II will void your
ETC warranty.
• Do not use the fixture below 5°C (41°F).
• Minimum storage temperature is 5°C (41°F). When the
fixture has been stored or transported in cold
temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature for
a minimum of 1hour before applying power. Applying
power to a cold fixture will cause damage to the fixture
and void the ETCwarranty.
• Do not use this fixture if a glass lens is deeply scratched
or cracked. Damaged lenses must be replaced.
• To prevent wiring damage, or abrasion, do not expose
wiring to edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects.
• Use the fixture in dry locations only, where humidity
does not exceed 90 percent (non-condensing). These
fixtures are not intended for outdoor use.
WARNING: Note the following safety warnings before use:
• Do not mount the fixture on or near a flammable surface.
• Do not use this fixture with a damaged power lead. If the
power lead (cord set) is damaged, it must be replaced.
• Mount and support the fixture only by the primary
suspension holes in the yoke.
• When the fixture is mounted, the axis between the yoke
attachment points must be parallel to the ground.
Mounting the fixture in a non-parallel orientation risks
property damage or bodily injury.
• Suspend the fixture from a suitable structure using only
hardware rated for the weight of the fixture.
• In addition to primary suspension, attach a safety cable to
the fixture housing. An appropriate attachment point
(hole) is provided in the protruding tab on the fixture
housing.
• Disconnect the unit from power and DMX and allow the
fixture to cool before removing or installing accessories,
and before all cleaning and maintenance.

Retrofit the Fixture
WARNING: RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK! Installing the
Source 4WRD Color II retrofit kit requires knowledge of
luminaire electrical systems. If you are not qualified, do not
attempt installation. Contact a qualified electrician.
Note: THE RETROFIT KIT IS ACCEPTABLE AS A COMPONENT OF A
LUMINAIRE WHERE THE SUITABILITY OF THE COMBINATION SHALL
BE DETERMINED BY AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION.

Wire the Power Connector
If you ordered a Source 4WRD Color II retrofit without a power connector,
wire the connector in accordance with all national and local electrical
codes:
• Brown = Live
• Blue = Neutral
• Green/Yellow + Drain = Protective Earth

Remove Incandescent Lamp Housing
1. Unplug the Source Four incandescent fixture and place it on a flat,
stable surface.
2. Loosen the brass thumb screw located above the beam adjustment
knob. The lamp housing is now loose.
3. Slide the lamp housing away from the fixture body and locate the
screw that secures the earth bond wire to the fixture body. Loosen
and remove the screw and accompanying washer to free the earth
bond wire.
4. Remove the lamp housing from the fixture body.
Note: The burner assembly is no longer needed. If you would like
ETC to recycle the burner assembly, contact ETC Technical Services
for more information. See Help from ETC Technical Services on
page2.

Install the Reflector Insert
When you use the Source 4WRD Color II with a Source Four fixture body,
you must install the reflector insert provided with the Source 4WRD Color II
in the Source Four fixture body.
CAUTION: Use the reflector insert only with the Source
4WRD Color II retrofit. Using the reflector insert with an
incandescent Source Four lamp can result in damage to the
product.
1. Remove the shutter barrel from the fixture in order to access the
reflector housing.
Loosen the barrel rotation knob at the bottom of the reflector housing
and loosen the retaining bolt on the opposite side of the reflector
housing. Rotate the shutter barrel and remove it from the reflector
housing.

2. Place the reflector housing on a flat surface with the reflector facing
up.

3. Position the reflector insert in the reflector housing over the top of the
reflector, taking care to align the centers of the reflector insert and
reflector.

4. Gently rotate the reflector insert clockwise until the teeth on the
reflector insert tabs are secured against the bracket wings on the
reflector housing. Do not use excessive force when rotating the
reflector insert, as the reflector insert may flex under pressure.

Note: No additional diffusion is used with the reflector insert. The
reflector insert replaces the older Source 4WRD Color diffusion
insert.
5. Replace and secure the shutter barrel and lens tube.

Install the Source 4WRD Color II Retrofit
WARNING: RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK! Install this kit
only onto luminaires that have the construction features and
dimensions shown in the images in this document and where
the input rating of the retrofit kit does not exceed the input
rating of the luminaire.
WARNING: Do not make or alter any open holes in an
enclosure of wiring or electrical components during kit
installation.
CAUTION: Do not touch or clean LED emitters with anything
other than oil-free canned air.
Tools required:
• Adjustable wrench
• #2 Phillips screwdriver
1. Use oil-free canned air to clean the LED emitters before you install the
retrofit. Do not touch the LEDemitters.
2. With the fixture resting securely on a flat surface, attach the supplied
threaded post to the back end of the fixture body. Use an adjustable
wrench to tighten the threaded post one-quarter turn past finger
tight.
3. Secure the earth bond wire to the fixture body using the provided
screw and washer.
4. Gently slide the Source 4WRD Color II onto the fixture body and
threaded post while guiding the LED tower into the lamp housing
hole, as shown in the following image. Take care to prevent contact
between the LEDs and the reflector.

5. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to tighten the screw located on the back
end of the Source 4WRD Color II, directly above the Z-adjustment
knob.
6. Pull gently to verify secure attachment.
7. Set the Z-adjustment using the Z-adjustment knob. See Set the Z-
adjustment on page16 .

The hanging clamp attaches the fixture to the mounting pipe andallows
you to adjust the position of the mounted fixture. ETCrecommends using
1.5in schedule 40 pipe.
Tightly fasten the hanging clamp to the yoke, and then connect the safety
cable.

WARNING: Do not use or store the Source 4WRD Color II
fixture below 5°C (41°F). When the fixture has been stored or
transported in cold temperatures, allow it to warm to room
temperature for a minimum of 1 hour before applying power.
Applying power to a cold fixture will cause damage to the
fixture and void ETC warranty.
1. Connect one RJ45 data cable for data-in and one for data-thru, as
needed. Use the strain relief at the bottom of the fixture to support
the data cables (see image in Install the Fixture on the previous page ).
Leave a loop of data cable between the connector and the strain relief
to ensure that the connection point is not stressed.
• To order an RJ45-to-socket XLR adapter, use ETC part number
W6538.
• To order an RJ45-to-plug XLR adapter, use ETC part number
W6539.
2. If this is the last fixture in the line, terminate the fixture with a
120Ohm resistor. Please contact your ETC customer service
representative to purchase ETC part number N4086. See Help from
ETC Technical Services on page2 .
3. Connect the fixture to a non-dimmable power source.

• When using DMX over Cat5, use Cat5e or better.
• Cable distance for full DMX daisy chain must not exceed 300m
(1000ft).
• Up to 32 fixtures can be connected together into a daisy chain.
• The fixture cannot be controlled via Ethernet protocols and should
not be directly connected to an Ethernet system.

Use the up and down navigation buttons
to configure the fixture.
Set the DMXAddress
1. Press any button to wake the
display. The display shows the
DMX address.
2. Use the Up and Down buttons to
select the DMX address for the
fixture.
You can also use RDM for DMX
addressing.
Play Presets and Sequences
The fixture has twelve factory-configured presets and five factory-
configured sequences. When you play a preset or sequence on a fixture:
• The same preset number or sequence number plays on any connected
fixtures that are not receiving DMX.
• If you power down the fixture, the preset or sequence resumes when
you power it on again.
1. Press the Up button and Down button simultaneously to activate the
Presets/Sequences menu. The last active preset or sequence plays
automatically. (If DMX data is present, the current preset or sequence
plays in the background and DMX data continues to take priority.)
2. Press the Up button or Down button as needed to scroll through the
available presets and sequences.
3. To stop the selected preset or sequence, press the Up button and
Down button simultaneously. The display will revert to show the DMX
start address.

Re-record Presets
1. Using DMX, set the desired levels for the new preset.
2. Press the Up button and Down button simultaneously to activate the
Presets/Sequences menu.
3. Press the Up button or Down button to navigate to the preset number
that you want to re-record.
4. Press and hold either the Up button or Down button to re-record the
preset. The display shows a three-second countdown, and then
records the current look to the preset.

Adjust Preset Intensity
1. Ensure that DMX data is not present.
2. Press the Up button and Down button simultaneously to activate the
Presets/Sequences menu.
3. Press the Up button or Down button as needed to scroll to the preset
that you want to adjust.
4. Press and hold either the Up button or Down button. The display
shows L: followed by either an intensity level from 0–99 or FL for
full.
5. Press either the Up button or Down button to adjust the intensity. You
can hold either button to scroll rapidly through intensity level values.
The new intensity value is saved after five seconds with no buttons
pressed.
Data Loss Behavior
When DMX data is lost, the fixture does one of the following actions:
• If you selected a preset or sequence, that preset or sequence
automatically plays.
• If no preset or sequence is active in the background, the fixture goes
dark and the DMXstart address flashes on the user interface.

Focus the Fixture
Set the Z-adjustment
Use the Z-adjustment knob located on the rear of the fixture to adjust the
field of the LED light for specific applications.
1. Turn on the fixture and aim it at a flat surface.
2. Slide the fixture barrel toward or away from the Source 4WRD Color II
to create a hard-edged beam of light.
3. Turn the knob toward PEAK or FLAT until you achieve the desired
field.

Note: The Source 4WRD PAR or PARNel Fixture Body optics are
optimized for PEAKfocus. When using the Source 4WRD Color II in a
Source 4WRD PAR or PARNel Fixture Body, turn the Z-adjustment
knob toward PEAK until the knob becomes loose, and then tighten
the Z-adjustment knob an additional quarter turn. This sets the LED
light source into the appropriate position within the fixture.

1. Remove the yoke locking knobs, washers,
and hex bolts from either side of the
fixture.
2. Raise or lower the fixture to the desired
position within the yoke.
3. Reinstall the yoke’s hex bolts, washers,
and locking knobs.
4. Tighten the yoke knobs to secure the
yoke in position.
