TLP Pro 320M • Setup Guide
Overview
The Extron TLP Pro 320M is a 3.5 inch wall mounted touchpanel with an 320x240 resistive touchscreen. It is ideal for any AV
application requiring a compact touchpanel with exible mounting options and a fully customizable interface. This guide provides
instructions for experienced installers to mount and install a TLPPro320M touchpanel. For more complete instructions, see the
TLPPro 320M User Guide, at www.extron.com.
Setup Checklist
Get Ready
Download and install the latest version of the following software:
GUI Designer — for designing layouts for Extron TouchLink®Pro touchpanels and third party touch interfaces.
Global Configurator Plus and Global Configurator Professional — for setting up and conguring control processors and
touchpanels.
More information about both software programs is available from the TLP Pro 320M User Guide.
Obtain the following network information from your network administrator:
DHCP status (on or off). If DHCP is off, you will also require
IP address Subnet mask Gateway
User name — by default these are either admin or user.
Passwords — by default these are either extron (for admin) or the eld is left blank (for user).
Make a note of the touchpanel MAC address.
Mount and Cable All Devices
ATTENTION:
• Do not power on the touchpanels or control processors until you have read the Attention in the “Power Supply” section of
the TLP Pro 320M User Guide, the IPL Pro User Guide, or the IPCP Pro User Guide.

Mount the units. There are several mounting options for TouchLink Pro touchpanels (see Mounting below).
Connect cables to the touchpanels (see Rear Panel Features on page 4).
Connect the power cords and power on all devices.
Set Up the Touchpanels for Network Communication
Connect the PC that you will use for setup, the control processor, and the touchpanel to the same Ethernet subnetwork.
Use the Setup Menu (see page 4) or the Toolbelt feature of Global Congurator Professional or Global Congurator Plus to set
the DHCP status and, if necessary, the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and related settings for the touchpanel.
Configure the Touchpanels
The Global Configurator Help File and the GUI Designer Help File provide more detailed information, including an introduction to the
software and sections on how to start a project and conguration.
Mounting
The TLP Pro 320M is mounted in the landscape orientation. Bezels are provided with the touchpanel.
Optional mounting kits, which must be purchased separately, are available. Follow the instructions provided with the kit.
zDesktop mounting — SMB 1 (with the optional SMA-1, which must be purchased separately)
zGlass mounting — GMK 1 (requires the SMB 1, which must be purchased separately)
zRack mounting — RM 1

Wall-Mounting or Furniture-Mounting
The TLP Pro 320M can also be mounted directly to the wall or directly into furniture, such as a podium or table, without a kit. The
following instructions describe how to mount directly into drywall. The procedure for furniture mounting is similar.
ATTENTION:
• Do not install the TLP Pro 320M in a re resistant rated wall or partition assembly.

You need a marking pen, a wallboard saw or jigsaw, a le or sandpaper, and a Phillips head screwdriver. To mount the touchpanel:
1. Use the provided cut-out template as a guide to mark the wall at a suitable location.
2. Use a wallboard saw or jigsaw to cut away the material within the guidelines drawn in step 1.
NOTE: Cut inside the guidelines to maximize the contact between the wallplate adapter and the drywall.
3. If there is insulation inside the drywall, remove at least 6inches of the insulation in all directions around the opening. If the
opening is less than 6 inches from a wall stud, remove all the insulation between the opening and the wall stud.
4. Check the size of the opening by inserting the included wallplate adapter into it. If necessary, use a saw, le, or sandpaper to
enlarge the hole.
CAUTION: Smooth the edges of the opening to avoid personal injury during installation and to avoid damage to the
wallplate adapter or cables.

5. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the locking arm screws of the wallplate adapter (see gure 1, 1). As the screws
tighten, the locking arms rotate behind the wall and hold the adapter in place.
ATTENTION:
• Do not overtighten the screws as this can damage the catches or the wall.

6. Run the cables inside the wall to the hole, leaving enough slack in the cables to connect them to the back of the touchpanel.
7. Connect the cables to the rear panel connectors (see figure 4 on page 4).
zConnect the LAN port to a power injector or a PoE-enabled switch.
zIf you use the LAN port only as a network connection, connect a
12VDC,1.0A power supply to the 2-pole captive screw power input
connector.
8. Push excess cables into the wall cavity.
9. Press the touchpanel onto the wall plate adapter (2). Four
catches, two on the top and two on the bottom, hold the
touchpanel in place.
10. Remove the bezel by inserting the provided Extron
removal tool into the notches on the bottom
surface of the bezel (3).
11. Attach the touchpanel to the wall plate
adapter with the two Phillips head
screws (#4-40 x ¼ inch) that are provided
with the touchpanel (4). For extra
security, these screws can be replaced
with two security screws of the same
size (not provided).
12. Replace the bezel by pressing
the catches on the bezel into the
corresponding slots on the front of the
touchpanel.
13. If required, perform the initial
conguration using the Setup Menu (see
page 4).

The TLP Pro 320M ships with the front panel bezel attached.

ALCD screen — The 3.5 inch LCD touchscreen has a
320x240 resolution and 18-bit color depth.
BStatus lights* — One on each side, can be congured to
provide system feedback.
zLight red or green
zBlink or light continuously
CBezel — Can be removed to reveal other front panel
features (see below). Use the included removal tool to
detach the bezel.
The TLP Pro 320M ships with a black bezel in the
landscape orientation. An accessory kit for a white bezel
can be purchased separately.
DEight buttons* — Backlit by LEDs. Customize the buttons as required (see the TLPPro320M User Guide).
EVolume control knob* — For controlling volume but can be congured for other functions.
FNotches for removing the bezel — These cannot be seen from the front of the touchpanel. They are on the bottom surface of
the bezel, where it comes in contact with the wall.
* The status lights, eight buttons, and volume control knob can all be congured with GlobalCongurator Plus and Global
Congurator Professional (see the GlobalConfiguratorHelp File).
Front Panel Features (Bezel Removed)
To release the bezel from the TLP Pro 320M using the Extron removal tool:
1. Insert the at edge of the tool into either of the notches in the bottom surface of the bezel (see figure 1, 3or figure 2, F).
2. Gently, twist the tool so that the bezel separates from the touchpanel.
3. Move the tool along the edge of the bezel and repeat step 2 until the bezel is completely detached from the touchpanel.

AMotion sensor — detects motion between 3 to 5 feet from
the touchpanel and at least 15° from the center axis.
When no motion has been detected for a user-dened
period of time, the screen display enters into sleep mode.
When motion is detected by the sensor, the screen display
is restored and active.
BCommunication LED — shows the conguration and
connection status of the touchpanel:
zUnlit during normal operation (the touchpanel is
congured and connected to an IPLink Pro control
processor).
zBlinking red if the touchpanel has been congured but
is not connected to an IPLinkPro control processor.
zLit steadily if the touchpanel has not been congured
and is not connected to an IP Link Pro control
processor.
These LEDs can be enabled or disabled, using the setup
menu (see the following page).
CAmbient light sensor — monitors ambient light level and adjusts screen brightness, based on the settings congured using the
setup menu (see the following page).
DHoles for mounting the touchpanel — allow the touchpanel to be attached to the wall-plate adapter during Wall-Mounting or
Furniture Mounting (see the previous page).
ESpeaker — one below the screen provides audible feedback from button presses.
FMenu button — activates the setup menu (see the following page).

APower connector — Connect a 12 VDC, 1.0 A power supply
(not included) to this 2-pole, 3.5 mm captive screw connector.
NOTE:
• The TLP Pro 320M ships without a power supply.
Either the 12 VDC, 1.0 A power supply or the power
injector must be purchased separately.
• If a 12 VDC and a power injector are both
connected to the TLP Pro 320M, the power injector
takes precedence. If a power loss from the power
injector is detected, the touchpanel switches
seamlessly to the 12 VDC supply without needing a
system reboot.
ATTENTION:
• The TLP Pro 320M can use a 12 VDC desktop power supply and is also Power over Ethernet (PoE 802.3af, class3)
compliant. Do not connect either power supply before reading the Attention in the “Power Supply” section of the
TLPPro320M User Guide.

BReset button — This recessed button allows the unit to be reset. The TLP Pro 320M has three reset modes that are initiated by
pressing the reset button (see below). For full information about these different modes, see the TLPPro 320M User Guide.
CReset LED— Indicates power status and reset status of the device.
DNetwork and Power over Ethernet (PoE) connector — Is used to connect the touchpanel to the LAN using a twisted pair cable,
terminated with an RJ-45 connector. The connector can also be used with a power injector (not provided).
An Extron IP Link Pro control processor must also be connected to the same network as the TouchLink Pro touchpanel.
Reset Modes: a Brief Summary
The TLP Pro 320M provides the following reset modes:
• Use Factory Firmware: Press and hold the Reset button (figure 4, B) while applying power to the unit. Use this mode
to revert to factory rmware in the event of rmware failure.
• Reset All IP Settings: Press and hold the Reset button for 6 seconds. After the Reset LED (figure 4, C) ashes
twice, release and momentarily press the Reset button. Use this mode to reset all network
settings to factory default values without affecting user-loaded les.
• Reset to Factory Defaults: Press and hold the Reset button for 9 seconds. After the Reset LED ashes three times,
release and momentarily press the Reset button. Use this mode to return the touchpanel to
factory default settings.
Setup Menu
The on-screen setup menu opens on the TLP screen when the menu button is
touched (see figure3, Fon page 3).
There are ve different screens: Status, Network, Display, Audio, and
Advanced. The screens can be selected by touching the menu button at the top
of the screen and touching the appropriate on-screen button (shown in gure 5).
