Intended Use
The EyeQue Insight is a self-administered, mobile application-driven vision screening
tool that uses the light from your smartphone screen to test visual acuity, color vision
and contrast vision.
Description
The EyeQue Insight is a self-administered vision screening device that uses the light
from your smartphone screen. Three types of tests can be administered:
Visual Acuity:
How clearly can one see.
• If the user does not have corrective lenses: results other than 20/20 (imperial,
6/6 in metric) may indicate the need for vision correction.
• If the user wears corrective lenses: the test can be conducted while the user is
wearing the corrective lenses to check if their vision correction may need to be
updated.
Color Blind Test:
Ability to visually detect differences among certain colors.
Contrast Test:
Ability to visually distinguish between increments of light versus dark (contrast).
EyeQue results are safely stored in the cloud. The results from the Insight tests can be
tracked over time, changes noted, and presented to your eyecare professional. Findings
that are not considered normal should be discussed with your eyecare professional.
Note:
Personal vision testing does not replace the need for an annual eye health exam.
For ages 6 years or older.
Children under 18 years of age should use the EyeQue Insight with adult supervision.

the user’s pupils.

displayed on the screen.

6

4. On the exposed portion of the smartphone screen, below the Insight, use your
ngertip to swipe in the direction you observe.
a. Direction to swipe: from the closed end to the open end of the “E”.
5. If you make a mistake, restart the test by selecting “Exit”.

Visual Acuity test
• In this test the “E” image will be shown in various sizes.
• The EyeQue Insight will simulate the reading of an eyechart at 20 ft.
• Use with or without corrective lenses (contacts or glasses).
a. When used while wearing corrective lenses, you can determine if your distance
glasses or contacts need to be updated.
b. If you do not wear corrective lenses, you can use the Insight to determine if you
may need contacts or glasses for distance vision.
c. If you wear corrective lenses you can test without them on to see what your
uncorrected distance vision is.
• Collect one sticker a week after completing a vision test when using Kids mode.
NOTE: If the country you live in does not use the imperial 20/20 system, click on
“Scale” and select the unit system you use, including Metric (6/6 or 4/4), Decimal
(10/10 or 1.0), or Log Mar (0.0).
Color Blind test
• In this test the “E” image will be represented as colored dots among dots of
various colors.
• Each “E” will be shown one at a time and will be approximately the same size.
• If you use corrective lenses, you should wear them while conducting this test.
3.

7
Contrast test
• The “E” image will be represented in varying intensities of black and grey.
• Several “E’s” will be shown at a time, each approximately the same size.
• If you use corrective lenses, you should wear them while conducting this test.
Results
Any results should be discussed with your eyecare professional for additional
assessment.
Multiple Users
One device can be shared with several users.
Since user results are saved, each user must have a separate EyeQue account in order
to properly track results over time.
To create a new account: https://store.eyeque.com/customer/account/create/
Note
Between users, clean the padding that is in contact with the face with rubbing alcohol.
Remove and/or allow the rubbing alcohol residue to evaporate before bringing the
device to the face.
Contraindications
The device should not be shared with users that are known to have, or exhibit signs or
symptoms of, an eye infection.
Safety Warning:
Visual Acuity, Color Vision and Contrast testing with the EyeQue Insight present
minimal risks.
While using EyeQue products to personally measure and track vision has the benet of
detecting changes between regular eye exams, it does not replace a comprehensive
eye exam that evaluates ocular health or binocularity. EyeQue urges people to visit a
doctor annually for a full eye health exam.
