4. Configuring the FieldServer as a DeviceNet Master
For a etaile iscussion on Fiel Server configuration, please refer to the Fiel Server Configuration
Manual. The information that follows escribes how to expan upon the factory efaults provi e in the
configuration files inclu e with the Fiel Server (See “.csv” files provi e with the Fiel Server).
This section ocuments an escribes the parameters necessary for configuring the Fiel Server to
communicate with a DeviceNet Slave.
The configuration file tells the Fiel Server about its interfaces, an the routing of ata require . In or er to
enable the Fiel Server for DeviceNet communications, the river in epen ent Fiel Server buffers nee to
be eclare in the “Data Arrays” section, the Fiel Server virtual no e(s) nee s to be eclare in the
“Server Si e No es” section, an the ata to be provi e to the clients nee s to be mappe in the
“Server Si e Map Descriptors” section. Details on how to o this can be foun below.
Note that in the tables, * in icates an optional parameter, with the bol legal value being the efault.

Appendix B. Driver Notes
Appendix B.1. Setting the FieldServer’s DeviceNet MAC ID and Baudrate
The MAC ID an Bau rate can be set in the Fiel Server’s CSV file using the
System_Station_A ress an DNet_Master_Bau rate parameters or it can be set with DIP switches
as epicte below.
Note:
The System_Station_A ress parameter must be remove from the configuration file if the DIP
switch setting is to be use .
If System_Station_A ress has not been efine in the CSV file, the DIP switch value for both MacID
an Bau rate will be use an the bau parameter in the CSV file will be ignore .
Appendix B.2. Using the Command and Status Data Arrays
The Comman Data Array controls the Scanner’s mo e which can be either Run or I le. The Scanner
can only be configure when in I le mo e. A non-zero value at offset zero in the Comman Data
Array will place the Scanner in Run mo e; a value of zero will place it in I le mo e. The Scanner

from the Server si e protocol of the Fiel Server. The following preloa section can be place in the
configuration file to place the scanner in Run mo e at power-up:
Preloa s
Data_Array_Name, Preloa _Data_Format, Preloa _Data_Value, Location
Comman _Reg, Bit, 1, 0
Offset zero of the Status Data Array in icates the Scanner’s actual mo e achieve . A non-zero value

Appendix B.4. Understanding uffer types and Map Descriptor functions
The iagram below explains the ata flows for both buffers when using the Fiel Server as a DN
Master:
Note that for the Input buffer, the ata is coming from the external DN Slave an is transferre into
the DN Master car ’s internal input buffer. The R bc (Rea Data Block Continuous) Map Descriptor
transfers the ata from the car buffer into the Fiel Server’s Data Array packing it correctly accor ing
to the specifie DeviceNet_Data_Type.
For the Output buffer, the ata is written from the Fiel Server’s Data Array by the WRBC function
Map Descriptor (Write Data Block Continuous) into the DN Master car ’s internal output buffer from
where it is transferre across the DeviceNet network to the external DN Slave’s input buffer.

Accessing Parameter Data in Remote Slaves
The DeviceNet river only supports IO ata. To access parameter ata on Slaves it is necessary to
refer to the Slave evice's user manuals for information on how to map their parameter ata to IO
ata locations.
