This manual is intended to help the user easily operate this product and make full use of its functions
during operation. Before connecting or operating your unit, read this operation manual thoroughly to
ensure you understand the product. Afterwards, store this manual in a safe place for future reference.

1. Prior to Starting
The HVS-49PSM power supply unit is specifically designed for the HVS-490. A standard HVS-490
comes with a single power supply unit installed into one of its two power slots. The optional
HVS-49PSM power supply unit allows you to operate the unit continuously, even if one power supply
unit fails.
CAUTION
Installing this option, which requires accessing the unit interior by opening the
panel, should only be done by qualified technical personnel. Power should be
turned OFF and all power cords disconnected from the unit before performing
this installation.
2. Installing the HVS-49PSM
2-1. Removing the Front Panel
Loosen the two screws on the front panel as shown below, then remove the panel.
2-2. Removing the Power Supply Slot Blank Panel
Remove the two screws securing the blank panel covering the power slot at the front of the unit
then remove the blank panel.

2-3. Installing the Redundant Power Supply Unit
1) Unpack the redundant power supply unit from its packing.
2) Align and carefully insert the power supply unit into the slot.
3) Make sure the unit is inserted completely and properly, then tighten the screws on both sides
as shown below.
2-4. Reinstalling the Front Panel
1) Return the front panel onto the front of the unit, then tighten the two screws from Section 2-1.

2) Connect the AC cords, then turn both of the power supply switches on.
3) Verify that the power indicator POWER2 LED is lit green while ALARM LED is unlit.
IMPORTANT
Contact your sales representative if the ALARM LED is lit red, which indicates an alarm in
the power supply unit or cooling fan.

3. Replacing Power Supply Units
3-1. Removing the Front Panel
Loosen the two screws on the front panel as shown below, then remove the panel.
3-2. Removing a Power Supply Unit
1) Loosen the two screws securing the power unit (with problem) as shown below.
2) Grasp gently pull the broken power supply unit, grasping the screws, straight out, until it is
completely removed from the unit.
3-3. Installing a Replacement Power Supply Unit
1) Unpack the replacement power supply unit from its packing.
2) Align and carefully insert the power supply unit into its slot.
3) Make sure the unit is inserted completely and properly, then tighten the screws on both sides.

3-4. Reinstalling the Front Panel
1) Replace the front panel onto the front of the unit, then tighten the screws from Section 3-1,
above.
2) Connect the AC cords, then turn both of the power supply switches on.
3) Verify that the power indicator POWER LED is lit green while ALARM LED is unlit.
IMPORTANT
Contact your sales representative if ALARM LED is lit red, which indicates an alarm in the
power supply unit or cooling fan.
