Operating precautions

AND FOLLOW SAFETY AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
WARNING: Risk of explosive gases: Baeries generate explosive gases during normal operaon, and when discharged or charged.
WARNING: To reduce risk of baery explosion, follow these safety instrucons and those published by the baery manufacturer and the
manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of a baery. Review cauonary marking on these products and on the baery
cabinets, baery racks, baery rooms, and on equipment containing the baery.
WARNING: Do not disassemble any equipment; contact Franklin Electric Grid Solutions when a repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may
result in a risk of electric shock or re.
WARNING: Use Franklin Electric Grid Solutions equipment in a dry, well-venlated area.
WARNING: Do not expose Franklin Electric Grid Solutions equipment to rain or snow.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock when tesng jars, abide by your company’s safety pracces and the following guidelines:
WARNING: Perform service work only for which you have been trained.
WARNING: Refer to NFPA 70E for electrical safety requirements.
WARNING: Use of Personal Protecon Equipment (PPE) and Protecve Clothing per NFPA 70E guidelines is required. Some examples of these,
but not limited to, are: Electrical-insulang, acid-resistant, and protecve gloves and sleeves per ASTM D 120, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.137, and NFPA
70E requirements; Protecve footwear; Aprons (acid-resistant); Insulang blankets; On-site spill kits; Protecve clothing for voltage levels, level
of corrosive protecon, and the amount of arc-ash protecon provided; Insulated rescue hooks or other means for pulling personnel from live
circuits; Eyewash staons or portable eyewash boles; Class “C” dry chemical re exnguishers instead of water around baery systems.
WARNING: Always have someone within range of your voice, or close enough to come to your aid, when working around lead acid baeries.
WARNING: Have plenty of fresh water and baking soda nearby in case baery acid contacts skin, clothing or eyes.
WARNING: If baery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with baking soda and water. If acid enters the eye, immediately ush
with cold running water for at least 10 – 15 minutes, and seek medical aenon.
WARNING: Never smoke or allow a spark or ame in the vicinity of a baery or engine.
WARNING: Be extra cauous to reduce risk of dropping a metal tool onto the baery. It might spark or short circuit the baery or other
electrical part that may cause an explosion.
WARNING: Before working with a lead-acid baery, remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, etc. A lead-acid
baery can produce a short circuit current high enough to weld such items causing a severe burn.
WARNING: Always wear safety glasses with side shields in the vicinity of baery work per 29CFR1910.133 (OSHA).
WARNING: Do not disconnect the baery cables from power systems during the test without authorizaon.
WARNING: Do not place yourself in an electrical circuit.
WARNING: Avoid simultaneous contact with the jar and with the baery cabinet, racks, or hardware that may be grounded.
WARNING: Baery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds, chemicals known to cause cancer and birth
defects or other reproducve harm. Wash hands aer handling.

INTRODUCTION
Overview
With this lightweight handheld tester, users can quickly conduct a full battery performance assessment that can be uploaded wirelessly
to the web-based UNITE™ database for centralized data storage, proactive maintenance planning, and compliance reporting.
Creating Tester Organizations in UNITE™
1. Login to UNITE™ with your email address and password at unite1.franklingrid.com.
2. Select "Add new organization".
3. Name the organization (This can be a company name, region, district oce, etc.).
4. Provide a description (Battery Testing Data, for example).
5. Select "CAD Testing" from the drop down list.
6. Select "Create".

Creating WiFi Profiles
1. Create a text file in NOTEPAD with your WiFi connection information.
2. Save the file as WIFI.txt
NOTE: The CADD supports unsecured, WPA/WPA2, and WEP networks.
NOTE: The CADD does not support enterprise WIFI, so you will need to use a network where it is just SSID and password or just SSID for
unsecured. There are no allowances for usernames.
IMPORTANT: Do not include “http(s)://” when you enter your web address.

3. Copy txt file to a USB flash drive.
4. Insert the flash drive in the USB A port (data storage/transfer).

WiFi Profile Setup on the CADD
From the Main Menu
navigate to the WIFI Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT

Navigate to the WIFI
Profile icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Use the navigation arrows
to highlight the WIFI
Profile you want to setup.
Press F2 to EDIT.
With the USB flash drive
inserted in the CADD port,
Press F3 to confirm
IMPORT.
With the USB flash drive
inserted in the CADD port,
Press F3 to IMPORT the
WIFI profile you created.
After import, you can edit the name and match
TYPE to your security type.
None
(no password) for an unsecured network or WPA/WPA2 for a secured
network (
WEP is rare). To edit these fields, highlight the item and press enter
on the selected setting. Press the Main Menu key when finished.

If the connection times out, repeat the process.
NOTE: The first time connecting to a WIFI profile and if you are connected to the WIFI network in your selected profile, you will see an
IP address, NET will be YES, and UNITE™ will be NO (fig. A).
NOTE: If the device obtains and displays an IP address, it is connected to WIFI, but you may have entered something wrong in your
profile or have a problem with your network. For this case NET is NO and UNITE™ is NO (fig. B).
Adding the CADD to a Tester Organization in UNITE™
1. Login in to UNITE™ with your email address and password.

2. Choose the desired Testing Organization to associate your CADD with.
3. Select "Manage".
4. Select "Add a new CADD".
5. Enter your four-digit code from the CADD.
6. Select "Add".

From the Main Menu
navigate to the WIFI Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT

NOTE: The code will be a unique four-digit code for each CADD. 5241 is just an example.
WiFi Commissioning the CADD to UNITE™
NOTE: Email will turn gray
after you click "Save".
1. Name the CADD and press "Enter".
2. Assign a Registered User’s email from the dropdown list to the CADD.
3. Select "Save".

Verify the CADD is Connected to UNITE™
From the Main Menu
navigate to the WIFI Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT

The “NET” listing of YES or NO indicates if the device can access the UNITE™ server.

The “UNITE™” listing of YES or NO indicates if the device is commissioned to the UNITE™ server it is attempting to communication.
Create or Add a Plant in UNITE™
1. Select "Manage".
2. Select "Manage Tester Battery Plants"
3. Select "Add Plant".

4. Name the plant.
5. Select a *"Battery specification".
6. After entering the required information, select "Next".
NOTE: Latitude and longitude coordinates are optional. Enter the coordinates if you want a map view of your plants.
NOTE: *If creating a new battery specification, see "Creating a Battery Specification" below.
Creating a Battery Specification
1. Select "Create and apply a new specification".
2. Select battery type from menu.

3. Enter the following information
• Manufacturer name.
• Battery model name/number.
• Conductance baseline reference value.
• Nominal battery/cell voltage.
4. Select "Add Preset" when done.
Creating a Battery String
1. Select "Add String".
2. Enter the following information.
• Name the Battery String.
• Installation Date and Warranty Date are optional fields.
• Select a Battery Specification from the list or create a new battery specification for the string.
Adding Batteries to a String
1. Select "Manage Batteries".
2. Select "Add Batteries".
3. Enter required information.
4. Select "Save" when done.

Setting Alarm and Warning Thresholds
NOTE
: To see battery alarms and warnings, select the
desired battery parameters (1) and set the Alarm and
Warning thresholds for each parameter selected (2).
Stage a Download to the CADD
1. Select "Manage".
2. Select "Manage CADD Downloads".
3. Select "Stage a new download".
4. Name the download.
5. Select "Stage Download" when done.
NOTE:
• You can select a Plant which will include all
battery strings in that Plant.
• You can select an individual or multiple
battery strings.
• Selecting at a higher level will include
everything below that level.

Assign the CADD
6. Select "Assign CADD".
7. Choose CADD to download.
8. Select "Assign CADs".
Ready to Download to the CADD
9. To transfer the UNITE™ Staged Download to the assigned CADD, select "Assign CADs".
Download Data from UNITE™ to the CADD
indicates network connection.
Make sure your CADD is
connected to WIFI and
UNITE.
From the Main Menu
navigate to the WIFI Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Navigate to the
DOWNLOAD Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Press F3 to confirm
you want to get data
from UNITE™.
You will see the
“DOWNLOAD WAS
SUCCESSFUL” message
when all data is received.

View the Data Downloaded to the CADD
From the Main Menu
navigate to the
BATTERY TEST icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Navigate to the
EXISTING icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Navigate to the
SITES menu.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Navigate to the
PLANTS menu.
Press F3 to SELECT.
From here you can see
the Battery Strings that
are setup in the CADD
for testing.
NOTE: When battery testing is finished you can upload the data to UNITE™.
Upload Data from the CADD to UNITE™
indicates network connection.
Make sure your CADD is
connected to WIFI and
UNITE™.
From the Main Menu
navigate to the WIFI Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Navigate to the
UPLOAD Icon.
Press F3 to SELECT.
Press F3 to confirm
you want to send data
to Unite.
You will see the
“UPLOAD WAS
SUCCESSFUL” message
when all data has been
sent to UNITE™.
