Preface
Thank you for selecting the 4127/4112 (hereafter referred to as “the machine”).
This guide explains how to operate the machine and the precautions that must be
followed during operation. To get the most out of the machine and to use it effectively,
be sure to read this guide before use.
This guide is written for users who are new to the machine and provides information on
copying, printing, e-mail, and scanning operations, as well as troubleshooting, daily
maintenance, and precautions users should take when operating the machine.
Please read this guide thoroughly to get the most out of the features available. After
reading this guide, keep it handy for future reference when you need explanations on
particular features of the machine or when you encounter difficulties with the machine
during use.
In this manual, safety instructions are preceded by the symbol .
Always read and follow the instructions before performing the required procedures.

Aimed toward machine administrators, as a guide to setting up the network
environment and to solving problems that may occur with the machine.
Quick Reference Guide (this guide)
Introduces the basic operations of the machine, as well as daily management and
maintenance.
Manual (HTML)
A guide for installing print drivers, configuring the printer environment, etc. This manual
is included in the CD-ROM of the Driver CD Kit.
Guides for Optional Accessories
Optional accessories are also available for the machine. User Guides are provided with
the optional accessories exclusively for 4127/4112. These User Guides are referred to
as "guides for optional accessories". Guides for optional accessories are provided in
two forms, as printed or as On-line Help.
Guides for optional accessories describe all the necessary steps for operating optional
accessories and installing software.

displayed on the computer screen and their buttons and
menu names.
< > button : Indicates a hardware button on the computer.

Example: When you see the procedure "select [Tools] >
[Setup] > [Mailbox]", this means that you need to select
[Tools], select [Setup], and then select [Mailbox].

and folders, click [Start] > [Search] > [For Files or Folders]",
this means that you need to click [Start], click [Search], and

This section describes the main components and functions of the machine.

1 Document cover Holds the document down.
2 Control panel Consists of operation buttons, LED indicators, and a touch screen.

4 Power switch Switches the power of the machine on/off.
5 Front cover Open this cover to clear paper jams and to replace the waste bottle.
6 Toner cover Open this cover to replace the toner cartridge.
7 Tray 1, 2, 3, 4 Load paper here.
8 Locking casters Used for locking the wheels of the machine. Lock these casters after moving
the machine to its installation site.
9 Bottom left cover Open this cover to access the inside of the machine to remove jammed
paper.

13 Left cover Opens slightly when the top cover is opened. Open this cover widely
when removing jammed paper.
14 Front cover Open this cover to remove jammed paper.
15 <Confirmation> indicator This indicator lights when a document is loaded correctly.
16 Document guides Use these guides to align the edges of documents.
17 Document feeder tray Load documents here.
18 Document output tray Delivers scanned documents.
19 Document stopper Holds large document such as A3 in place. Pull this outto the right when
using.
20 Waste bottle cover Open this cover when removing the waste bottle.
21 Waste bottle Collects used toner.
22 Fuser (E) Fuses toner on paper. This is extremely hot, so do not touch it.
23 Lever Use this lever when pulling out the transfer module.
24 Transfer module Transfers an image on the drum to paper. Open this when removing

28 Output tray Delivers regular copies. Use the finisher tray when outputting a large
amount of copies or prints. For a regular amount of copies or prints,
select either the output tray or finisher tray.
29 Finisher tray Use this tray when outputting a large amount of copies or prints or
when stapling the output.
30 Booklet output tray*1 Delivers bi-folded or bi-folded and stapled copies.
31 Booklet output tray button*1 Press this button to move booklets that have been delivered to a
position where they can be removed.
32 Right cover Open this cover to clear paper jams; replace staples or clear jammed
staples; or remove scraps from the hole punch waste container.

35 Staple cartridge Contains staple nails. Remove this when it needs to be replaced or
when clearing staple jams.
36 Hole punch waste container Collects scraps from the puncher. Remove this when discarding
scraps.
37 Tri-Fold output tray*2 Delivers tri-folded (C fold and Z fold) copies.
38 Tri-Fold output tray button*2 Press this button to open the Tri-Fold output tray.
39 Left cover Open this cover to access the inside of the machine to clear paper

5 A3 Plus High Capacity Tray
(Tray 6) Load paper here. If you close the tray after loading paper, the tray automatically adjusts the its front and rear positions based on the
center of the paper.

2 Error lamp If a paper jam occurs, the lamp of the jammed location lights up.
3 Sample button Press this button to output a sample page onto the stacker output tray.

5 Stacker output tray Delivers a sample page or sample set of a document.

Power On / Off
To use the machine, turn its power on.
The machine takes approximately 5 minutes to warm up and to be ready to copy or
print. This may take more time depending on your machine configuration.
Switch the power off at the end of the day or when not using the machine for an
extended period of time. Use also the Power Saving feature to save power
consumption while the machine is not in use.
Note • Switching off the power of the machine may cause loss of data being processed.
For information on the power saving feature, refer to "Power Saver Mode" (P.19).
Powering On
Follow the step below to switch the power on.
1Open the cover and press the power switch
to the [|] position to turn the power on.
Note • The "Please wait..." message indicates
that the machine is warming up. The
machine cannot be used when the
message is displayed.
Powering Off
Follow the steps below to switch the power off.
Important • Switching the power off may erase the data being processed.
2Make sure that the machine is not in operation before switching the power off. Also
make sure that the <Online> indicator is not lit.
Important • Do not switch the power off in the following situations:
-While data is being received
-While data is being sent (FTP/SMB/e-mail)
-While a job is being printed.
-While a job is being copied
-While a job is being scanned
-While data is being imported from a computer
3Press the power switch to the [ ] position.
Important • If you switch off the machine, it remains on for a while to prepare for shutdown. Do not
unplug the power cord from the power outlet immediately after switching the power off.
Note • If switching the power on right after switching it off, make sure that the display and the <Job
in Memory> indicator have gone out.

Circuit Breaker
The machine is provided with a circuit breaker.
In the event of a current leakage, the breaker will automatically cut off the power circuit
to prevent any leakage or fire from occurring.
The circuit breaker is normally in the On ("l") position as shown in the figure.
If the breaker is in the Off ("O") position, unusual conditions may occur. Please contact
our Customer Support Center.
