Laser Standard
The Fibre Channel printed circuit board contains a laser system (GBIC or GLM module).

Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in accordance with Radiation
Control for Health and Safety Act of 1968 and also based on the safety requirements for
laser products in EN60825-1 (+A11). The certificate of conformance is affixed to the
module.

This manual describes the LT160 magnetic tape library.
This manual first provides an overview of the tape library and then detailed information
about the tape library. The detailed information includes specifications, installation
requirements and procedures for incorporating the tape library into a system, and
information about how to clean the tape library.
The manual is intended for users who have a basic knowledge of magnetic tape libraries
and how they are used in computer systems.
The organization of manuals related to the LT160 tape library and the scope of this
manual are indicated in the Manual Set section later. Refer to related manuals as
necessary.
The organization and contents of this manual are explained below. This information is
followed by important information related to handling of the LT160.
Organization of This Manual
This manual consists of seven chapters.
Chapter 1 Overview
Chapter 1 explains the library operating environments and where information about each
environment is to be found in this manual.
Chapter 2 Setting Up the Tape Library
Chapter 2 explains how to set the library functions.
Chapter 3 Setting the Fibre Channel Interface
Chapter 3 provides examples of Fibre Channel interface connection. The chapter also
explains how to connect the host interface and drive interface and how to perform zoning.

Chapter 4 explains how to set the Solaris and Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 operating
systems.
Chapter 5 Setting Backup Software
Chapter 5 explains how to set VERITAS NetBackup, Legato NetWorker, and BrightStor

Chapter 6 explains how to tune VERITAS NetBackup (running on Solaris and Windows

Important Information on Handling
Maintenance
Users must not attempt to repair the LT160 by themselves. Ask Fujitsu to dispatch one of
its engineers or an engineer authorized by Fujitsu for maintenance work.
Disposal of the LT160 and Packing Materials
If you need to dispose of the LT160, follow the instructions provided by maintenance
personnel.
Expendable Supplies
Use Fujitsu-designated expendable supplies for the LT160. Using other materials may
result in injury to users and bystanders or damage to their property.
Modification or Renovation of the LT160
Do not modify the LT160 or overhaul a used product. Doing so may result in injury to
users and bystanders or damage to their property.
Operating Environment
This product is designed for use in Japan and cannot be used outside Japan. Fujitsu
assumes no responsibility for any consequences resulting from use of the LT160 outside
Japan.
Disposal of Magnetic Tape
Magnetic tape uses chromium dioxide as a magnetic material. When disposing of
magnetic tape, note the following:
•Do not burn magnetic tape.
•Treat used magnetic tape as industrial waste.
If you are uncertain about what to do, call your Fujitsu salesperson.

This chapter explains the operating environment for the magnetic tape library (tape
library in this manual). The chapter also provides information about where in the manual
information about each combination of server OS and Fibre Channel connection method
is to be found.
For basic information about the tape library, refer to the User’s Guide on the CD-ROM
supplied with the tape library. For specific information about an OS and backup
software, refer to the manuals supplied with the product.
1.1 Operating Environment
This section explains the servers that can use the tape library and their operating
environments.
1.1.1 PRIMEPOWER and GP7000F
•OS: Solaris 2.6 or later
•Backup software: VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter 3.4 or later

The procedure for setting up the tape library and the system depends on the combination
of server OS to which the tape library is connected and the Fibre Channel connection
method.
The following summarizes the setting procedures for specific combinations and the
locations in this manual where the corresponding settings are detailed.

1.3 Notes on Use
This section provides notes on using this tape library.
1.3.1 Timing of tape cartridge replacement
Tape cartridges are consumables. For safe operation, they must be periodically replaced
according to frequency of use.
•Backup is executed daily: Replace a cartridge biennially.
•Backup is executed once a week: Replace a cartridge once every ten years.
Note:
Even if backup is executed less than once a week, replace a cartridge at least once every
ten years.
1.3.2 Inserting cartridges
When inserting a cartridge into the LT160, be sure to keep label sheets and all other items
packaged with the cartridge from entering the LT160. Otherwise, a unit failure may
result.
1.3.3 Power to the unit
•Do not execute any operation involving the backup software while the power to the
LT160 is off, or while the LT160 is being initialized by turning the power on.
Otherwise, a malfunction may result.
•If the power to the LT160 is turned off during backup, the data being written is not
guaranteed. In addition, the cartridge that is used for writing data may be disabled.
In such cases, contact the support department that handles the backup software, take
the corrective action, and reexecute backup.

1.3.4 Turning on the server
• If the server is turned on while the LT160 is being powered on, the LT160 may not
be correctly recognized by the server. In such cases, power on the server after the
initialization of the LT160 is completed.
• When the LT160 is turned on through the RCI interface, allow the LT160 about ten
minutes to be ready for use. Set the server schedule so that no accessing is executed
from the server before the LT160 is ready for use. (For example, just prior to
activating the backup software, place the server in the sleep state for 10 minutes.)
1.3.5 Media error
If a media error occurs during backup and the backup processing terminates abnormally,
the backup processing must be executed again.
If the backup processing must be completed within a certain period of time, design
operations to allow enough time to reexecute backup processing even for the longest
possible case.
