Checks before each operation:
vInspect the Electric Aerator before each
use.
vDo not use the Electric Aerator if safety
devices (Starter lever, safety interlock, rear
flap, collecting bag (accessories), housing)
are damaged or worn.
vNever operate the unit with the safety
devices by-passed or missing.
vNote: Ensure that all nuts, bolts and screws
are tight and that the Aerator is in good
working order.
For safety reasons, allow all worn out
and damaged parts to be exchanged by
GARDENA Service or authorised specialist
dealers.
vInspect the area to be aerated before be-
ginning work.
vCheck the working area for foreign objects
(e.g. stones, branches, string) and remove
if necessary.
Proper use / Responsibility :
Danger ! Risk of injury !
The Aerator can cause serious
injuries!
VKeep hands and feet away from the
aerator cylinder.
You are responsible for the safety of the work-
ing area.
vOnly use the Electric Aerator for the pur
poses specified in these instructions.
vOnly work when visibility is good.
vDuring use do not tip the unit and do not
open the rear flap.
vFamiliarise yourself with the surroundings
of your working area. Check for possible
risks which might be not audible due to
the noise of the machine.
vWear sturdy shoes and long trousers to
protect your legs. Ensure you keep your feet
a safe distance from the moving parts.
vMake sure that there are no other people
(especially children) or animals anywhere
near the working area.
vAlways push the Aerator at a walking pace.
vOperating position: Ensure that you have a
secure foothold when working.
vBe particularly careful if you change
direction on a slope. When working on
slopes, always stand diagonally to the
incline. Do not work on extremely steep
slopes.
Take care when walking backwards and
pulling the aerator. You may stumble!
vDo not use the aerator if it is raining or in
moist, wet conditions.
vDo not work close to the edge of swimming
pools or garden ponds with the aerator.
vPlease observe the prescribed local quiet
times.
Electrical safety:
vKeep the extension cable away from the
aerator cylinder!
vThe connecting / extension cable must be
checked regularly for damage and signs of
wear and tear.
vDisconnect the mains plug immediately if
the connecting /extension cable is damaged
or severed.
The coupling socket for the extension cable
must be waterproof for protection from water
splashes or the connection sockets for exten-
sion cables must be made of rubber or be
encased in rubber.
Extension cables must meet the requirements
of DIN VDE 0620.
vOnly use approved extension cables made
from PVC or rubber when working outside.
Voltage Cable Cross-
length section
220-240V/ 50 Hz Up to 20 m 1,5 mm2
220-240V/ 50 Hz 20 - 50 m 2,5 mm2
Attachment fittings must be used for extension
cables.
For portable units, which are used outdoors,
we recommend to use a residual-current
device having a residual-current rating
≤30 mA. In Switzerland use of a residual-
current device is obligatory.

3. Function
The Aerator can be used for removing matting and moss in the
lawn as well as for cutting flat-rooting ranks.
During aeration, the lawn must not contain seeds, be wet or too
dry.
To maintain a well-cared-for lawn, we recommend aerating it twice
a year: once in the spring and once in the autumn. This improves
the lawn’s intake of water, air and nutrients considerably.
Prior to aeration, mow the lawn so it is as short as possible, but
never reduce its height by more than 1/3.
Recommendation: the shorter you mow your lawn, the easier
it is to aerate, thus lessening the strain on the Aerator and in-
creasing the lifetime of the aerator cylinder.
Remaining in one spot too long, or aerating if the ground is wet
or too dry can damage the grass.
vFor good results, guide the Aerator at an appropriate speed in
strips as straight as possible across your lawn.
vIf the lawn is very mossy, aerate it a second time in a diagonal
direction to the strips.
vAlways guide the Aerator at an even speed depending on the
type of ground.
vAfter aeration, fertilise the lawn.
vWhen working on inclines always stand diagonally to the incline
in a sturdy, safe stance. Do not work on extremely steep slopes.
When aerating areas of very mossy lawn we recommend re-sow-
ing the lawn after aerating.
Correct aerating:
Interruptions of work:
Never leave the Electric Aerator unatten-
ded at the working area.
vIf you interrupt your work store the unit in a
safe place. Disconnect the mains plug!
vWhen you interrupt work in order to go to
another working area, always switch off the
Electric Aerator during transport. Put the
Aerator lever in the transport position.
If you come into contact with an
obstruction during aerating:
1. Turn off the Electric Aerator (disconnect the
mains).
2. Remove the obstruction.
3. Check the Aerator for damage and have
it repaired if necessary.

14
GB
4. Operation
Do not trap the connecting cable when opening the handle.
1. Open the handle and screw it firmly in place with the clamping
handle 1.
2. Open the upper handle 2and screw it firmly in place with the
wing nuts 3.
You can adjust the handle height to your own body height using
the clamping handle 1.
1. Push the connector on the
extension cable 4onto the
plug on the safety interlock 5.
2. Draw a loop of the extension
cable 4through the cable
strain relief device 61and
suspend in position 2.
This prevents inadvertent disconnection of the plug and socket
connection.
3. Insert extension cable 4into a mains socket.
Danger of injury if the Aerator does not switch off auto-
matically!
VDo not remove or bridge safety devices fitted to the
Aerator (e.g. by tying the starting lever to the upper
handle)!
Danger ! The Aerator does not stop immediately after
Athe motor has been switched off:
VNever lift, tip or carry the Aerator with the motor
running!
VNever start on solid ground (e.g. asphalt).
VAlways maintain the safety distance between the
aerator cylinder and the user as defined by the
guide handle.
1. Prior to aeration, check the wear adjustment
(see 6. Maintenance).
2. Place the Aerator on a flat grass surface.
3. Place the Aerator lever 7slightly to the
side and backwards and place it in Aerating
position 1.
The Aerator cylinder is lowered onto the
ground.
4. Press and hold the safety interlock 5and
pull the starter lever 8on the upper handle
2.
The Aerator starts.
5. Release the safety interlock 5.
When in operation, the extension cable 4must always be
guided in the direction you are working and to the side of
the area to be worked on. Always work away from the con-
nection cable.

Risk of injury and physical damage!
AVDo not clean Aerator under running water
(particularly under high pressure).
VDo not use hard or pointed objects for cleaning
the Aerator.
The Aerator should be cleaned after each time it is used.

Adjusting for wear:

16
GB
If the results of your work with the Aerator become increasingly
worse due to knife wear, re-adjust the wear compensation.
You can adjust the wear compensation
steplessly and is set in the factory to
3 mm (can be re-adjusted by 7 mm).
In the transport position, the Aerator
cylinder is 5 mm above the ground.
1. Unplug it from the mains.
2. Place the Aerator on a flat grass
surface.
3. Place the Aerator lever 7in aerating
position 1.
4. Turn the wear compensation wheel 9
until the tips of the knives touch the
grass.
5. Turn the wear compensation wheel 9
a ¼ revolution in an anti-clockwise
direction.
The aerator cylinder is set at 3 mm
aerating depth correctly.
The Aerator is subject to wear in use due to the way in which it
works. The more intensively the Aerator is used, the greater the
wear on the knives. Hard or very dry ground accelerates wear as
does excessive use of the Aerator.
7. Trouble-Shooting / Service
Danger ! The aerator cylinder can cause injuries !
AVPrior to rectifying faults, unplug from the mains
and wait until the aerator cylinder has stopped.
VWear working gloves when rectifying faults.
