Grinder Advanced Pro.
This new Coffee Grinder will prove itself by its outstanding adaptability and smart modes of
operation. Your Coffee Grinder provides always freshly ground coffee for your special coffee
delight by automatically adapting the amount to your pre-selections. Forget all calculations of
amounts; the Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro will provide the exact amount at the push
of a button. This way, you will always reach the best results. The conical grinding burrs are
made of hardened stainless steel, to reduce the grinding heat. This way, oils and flavour of the
coffee beans are protected as far as possible, thus always leading to the full taste.
These instructions for use will inform you about the various functions and features, which make
it easy to take pleasure in your new Coffee Grinder.

Carefully read all instructions before operating this appliance and save for further reference.
Do not attempt to use this appliance for any other than the intended use, described in these
instructions. Any other use, especially misuse, can cause severe injuries or damage by electric
shock, moving parts, or fire.
These instructions are an essential part of the appliance. Do not pass the appliance without
this booklet to third parties.
Any operation, repair and technical maintenance of the appliance or any part of it other than
described in these instructions may only be performed at an authorised service centre. Please
contact your vendor.
General Safety Instructions
• ThisapplianceisforhouseholduseonlyandNOT intended for use in moving vehicles. Do
not operate or store the appliance in humid or wet areas or outdoors. Any use of accessories,
attachments or spare parts that are not recommended by the manufacturer or damaged in any
way may result in damage and/or injuries to persons.
• Checktheentireapplianceregularlyforproperoperation–especiallythepowercord(e.g.
check for distortion, discolouration, cracks, corroded pins of the power plug). Do not operate
the appliance, when the appliance or any part of it is likely to be damaged, to avoid risk of
fire, electric shock or any other injuries to persons and/or damage. The appliance is likely
tobe damagediftheappliancehasbeensubjecttoinadmissiblestrain(e.g.overheating,
mechanical or electric shock), or if there are any cracks, excessively frayed or melted parts, or
distortions, or if the appliance is not working properly. In this case, immediately unplug the ap-
plianceandreturntheentireappliance(includingallpartsandaccessories)toanauthorized
service centre for examination and repair.
• Operatetheapplianceonawellaccessible,stable,level,dry,andsuitablelargetableor
counter.
• Alwayskeeptheapplianceandthetableorcountercleananddry,andwipeoffspilled
liquids immediately. Do not place any clothes or tissue or other objects under or on the appli-
ance during operation, to avoid risk of fire, electric shock and overheating. Do not place the
appliance over a power cord or near the edge of the table or counter, or on wet or inclined
surfaces.
• Duringoperationkeeptheapplianceinanappropriatedistanceofatleast20cmoneach
side to the edge of the working space and furniture, walls, boards, curtains. Leave at least
50 cm of free space above the appliance. Exclusively use the appliance for domestic use and
for grinding roasted coffee beans. The appliance is not suited for chopping or grinding other
foodstuffs. Immediately unplug the appliance, if there is any kind of malfunction or problem
(e.g.themotorgetsstuck,overheating).Donotoperatetheappliancecontinuouslyformore
than 2 minutes. After this period of operation make a break of at least 20 minutes.
• ThisapplianceisNOTintendedforusebypersons(includingchildren)withreducedphy-
sical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have
been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible
for their safety. Children must always be supervised to ensure that they do not play
with the appliance or any parts of the appliance or the packaging. Always keep
the appliance where it is dry, frost-free, and clean, and where young children cannot reach it.
Do not leave the appliance or any part of it unattended, when in reach of young children.

Before operation, always ensure that the appliance is assembled completely
and correctly according to the instructions in this booklet. Do not handle the appli-

hopper or milling works, with the appliance connected to the power supply. Do not use any
hard,sharporedgedobjects(e.g.knives,forks,cleaningbrush)withtheappliance.
• Itisbesttoclosethebeanhopperlidsecurelybeforeoperation.Donotopenthebean
hopper lid during operation.
• Donotleavetheapplianceunattended,whenitisconnectedtothepowersupply.Always
switchoff(withthemillingworksrunning:presstheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbutton)thenun-
plug the appliance, before moving, or cleaning the appliance, or assembling or disassembling
any parts, or when the appliance is not in use. Always hold the power base at both sides near
the bottom for moving or lifting. Do not hold the appliance at the bean hopper lid,
power cord, or bean hopper for moving the appliance. Do not place any hard
and/or heavy objects on the appliance or any part of it.
• Donotuseanyabrasivecleaners,cleaningpads(e.g.metalscouringpads),oranycorro-
sivechemicals(e.g.bleach)forcleaning.Donotimmersethepowerbaseorpowercordin
water or any other liquid. Do not spill or drip any liquids on the power base or on the power
cord to avoid risk of fire and electric shock. Do not place the appliance or any part of
it or power cord in an automatic dishwasher.
Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances
The appliance is driven electrically. Place the appliance near a suitable wall power socket to
connect the appliance directly to a protected mains power supply with protective conductor
(earth/ground)connectedproperly.Ensurethatthevoltageratingofyourmainspowersupply
correspondstothevoltagerequirementsoftheappliance(220-240V,50Hz,AC,ratedfor
at least 8 A).
Theinstallationofaresidualcurrentoperatedcircuitbreaker(r.c.c.b.)withamaximumrated
residual operating current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is strongly recommen-
ded. If in doubt, contact your electrician for further information.
In various foreign countries, the specifications for power supplies are subject to incompatible
norms. Therefore it is possible that power supplies in foreign countries do not meet the requi-
rements for safe operation of the appliance. Thus, before operating the appliance abroad,
ensure that safe operation is possible.
• Donottouseanydesktopmultisocketoutlet,externaltimer,orremotecontrolsystems.
It is best to avoid using extension cords, but if you wish to use one, only use an extension
cordratedforamaximumcontinuouscurrentofatleast8Awithprotectiveconductor(earth/
ground) connected properly.
• Alwayshandlepowercordswithcare.Alwayscompletelyunwindthepowercordbefore
use. Do not place the appliance on a power cord. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted,
pulled, strained or squeezed. Do not let the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the
table or counter. The power cord may not touch hot surfaces or sharp edges. Ensure that no
one will pull the appliance by the power cord. Take care not to entangle in the power cord.

Always grasp the plug to disconnect the power cord. Do not touch the appliance or power
plug with wet hands when the appliance is connected to the power supply.
• DO NOT drip or spill any liquids on the power base or power cord. Do not place the burr
sleeve or bean hopper on the power base, when these parts are wet. Otherwise liquid could
run into the power base, causing risk of electric shock or fire. Additionally, moistened coffee
powder could block the milling works.
Moving Parts
The bean hopper must be assembled and locked properly to operate the appliance. Do not
attempt to deactivate this safety interlock. If the appliance does not work, even when handled
correctly(see›Operation‹),thenunplugtheappliance.Sendthecompleteappliancetoan
authorized service centre for repair.
Donotinsertyourhands,hair,clothesoranyotherobjects(e.g.cookingutensils)inthebean
hopper, with the appliance connected to the power supply. During grinding, single coffee
beans could leap out of the bean hopper. This could happen especially with the bean hopper
almost empty. Thus, ensure to keep the bean hopper lid firmly closed during operation. Additi-
onally, keeping the bean hopper lid closed will prevent unnecessary loss of flavour and taste.

Important: Your new Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro is intended for grinding roasted
coffee beans, and is driven electrically. The appliance is NOT suited for grinding or chopping
other food or materials. Additionally, the appliance is NOT suited for processing already
ground coffee.

Safety Concept
WARNING: For your protection and convenience, your new Coffee Grinder is equipped
with various safety features. Do not attempt to damage or by-pass the safety interlocks! Do not
attempttooperatetheapplianceusingothersthanthedesignatedparts(e.g.beanhopperor
burr sleeve).
To avoid injuries due to the milling works, for operation the bean hopper must be locked on
the grinder via a safety interlock. If the bean hopper is not assembled correctly, the motor of
the appliance will not agitate.
Modes of Operation
Using Automatic or Manual Mode
• With manual mode, the appliance will operate as long as you press either the
START|PAUSE|CANCELbuttonorthePortafilterbutton.
• Withautomatic mode, the appliance will provide automatically the correct amount of
groundcoffee,accordingtoyourindividualsettingsforgrindsize(COARSEtoFINE),amount
percup/shot(GRINDAMOUNT),andthenumberofCUPS(for»normal«coffee)orSHOTS
(forespresso).
Tip: Once adjusted to your liking, using automatic mode will spare you all annoying calculati-
ons of amounts, when you wish to brew more or less cups of coffee. Simply select the number
of cups/shots and let the appliance do the rest. Thus, we recommend, preferring automatic
mode. This way, the smart grinding system of your Design Cof-
fee Grinder Advanced Pro can be of use for you to achieve
reliable and stable results.
Grinding Directly into Your Grind Container or Coffee
Filter
Your Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro can fill the freshly
groundcoffeedirectlyintothedesiredvessel:Portafilter,grind
container or drip filter basket. For this, various accessories are
supplied.
• Usethegrindcontainer,ifyouwishtostorecoffeepowder.
However, keep in mind that coffee powder will seriously lose
flavour and taste, when stored for an elongated period of time.
Use up ground coffee as soon as possible.
• MosttypesofPortafilterordripfilterbasketswillfitintothe
supplied cradles or can be placed directly under the grind out-
let. Possibly, you can press the Portafilter button with the used
vessel for starting the grinder.
Pause Function
You can pause the grinder during operation allowing you to collapse or settle the coffee in
the portafilter.
• Press&releasetheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttontostartthegrindingoperation.
• Duringgrinding,presstheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttonagaintopausetheoperation
for 10 seconds.
• Pressagainwithinthistimetoresumethebalanceofthedose.

Energy Saving Feature
In general, it is best to avoid leaving any electrical device connected to the power supply
needlessly. Thus, always unplug the appliance from mains power outlet, when not in use. The
pre-selectionsyouadjustedforgrindsize(COARSEtoFINE)andamountpercup/shot(GRIND
AMOUNT) will remain unchanged.
The appliance will automatically switch off when not used for more than 5 minutes. In this case,
the screen and all buttons get dark. To reactivate normal operation, simply press any button
of the operating elements.
Tips for Best Results
• Freshlygroundcoffeeisthekeytomakingcoffeewithmoreflavourandbody.
• Coffeeflavourandstrengthisapersonalpreference.Varythetypeofcoffeebeans,amount
per cup/shot, and grind size to achieve the flavour you prefer.
• Ifyouareusingdualwallfiltersforyourespressomachine,wesuggestacoarsergrind
sizesettingintheESPRESSOrange.Forsinglewallfilters,useanfinesetting(attheright
end of the scale).
• Usefreshlyroastedcoffeebeans,preferablywitha‘roastedon’date.
• Storecoffeebeansinadark,coolanddryplace.Vacuumseal,ifpossible.
• Buyinsmallbatchestoreducethestoragetimeandstorenomorethanoneweek’ssupply
at any time.
• Oncecoffeeisground,itquicklylosesitsflavourandaroma.Forthebestresultsgrindbe-
ans shortly before brewing.
• Donotstorebeansinthebeanhopperforaprolongedperiod.
• Whenstoringtheappliance,emptythebeanhopperandthereafterrunthemillingworks
empty to remove ground beans left in the milling works.
• Ifyouwishtoobtainthemaximumfreshnessofgroundcoffee,runthemillingworksfor
approx. 2 seconds before each use.
• Cleanthebeanhopperandmillingworksregularly.

BEFORE FIRST USE
WARNING: DO NOT let young children play with the appliance, or any part
of it, or the packaging!
1. Unpack the appliance and all accessories carefully.
2. Checkthatnopartsaredamagedormissing.(See:›KnowingYourDesignCoffeeGrinder
AdvancedPro‹)
3. Carefully remove all shipping materials and promotional materials, but DO NOT remove
theratinglabel.Especiallyensurethattherearenoforeignobjects(e.g.packagingmateri-
al)in the interior of the bean hopper or milling works. Remove the protective coat that sticks
to the screen.
WARNING: Always unplug the appliance before cleaning. Do not immerse the power base
or power cord in water or other liquids or spill any liquids on the power base or power cord.
Do not place the appliance or any part of it or power cord in an automatic dishwasher.
4. Beforefirstuseandafteralongerperiodofstorage,cleantheapplianceanditsparts.(See:
›CareandCleaning‹)
OPERATION
WARNING: Always ensure that the appliance and all its parts and accessories are out of
reach of young children. The appliance is intended for grinding roasted coffee beans.
Thus, the milling works and burr sleeve can cause severe injuries when handled improperly.
Only place the appliance on a stable, dry, level, and clean surface. Do not place the appli-
ance on inclined surfaces where it can fall over, to avoid damage. Do not place any clothes
or tissue or other foreign objects on or under the appliance during operation, to avoid risk of
fire, overheating, or electric shock. Do not block the ventilation slots at the bottom and rear of
thepowerbase.Duringoperation,theoperatingelements(see:›KnowingYourDesignCoffee
GrinderAdvancedPro‹)mustbeaccessibleallthetime.
Ensure to keep the appliance in an appropriate distance of at least 20 cm on each side to the
edge of the working space and any other objects. During operation leave at least 50 cm of
free space above the appliance for unhindered access.
Before assembling the appliance, always ensure that all parts are in proper working order.
(See:›GeneralSafetyInstructions‹)Donotuseanydamagedorunsuitablepartstoavoidrisk
of injuries and damage.
Do not use violence when removing the bean hopper. The bean hopper is locked securely
for operation. Thus, always release the bean hopper lock, before removing the bean hopper.
Exclusively use the appliance for grinding roasted coffee beans. The appliance is not suited
for chopping or grinding any other food or materials.
To avoid disadvantageous reduction of quality and flavour of your coffee, you should regularly
cleantheappliance(See:›CareandCleaning‹).
Preparing the Appliance for Use
1. Place the appliance on a stable, flat, dry and level surface near a suitable wall power outlet.

2. Ensure that the burr sleeve is assembled correctly in the milling works. There is a red arrow
on the burr sleeve that must point to the LOCK mark at the brim of the milling works. For
further instructions see Reassembling the Appliance.
3. Placethebeanhopperoverthemillingworks.Seealso:›Re-
assembling the Appliance‹. For this, turn the bean hopper
lock to UNLOCK position (turned counter-clockwise). Then
place the bean hopper on the milling works and turn it gently
until it settles down. Then, turn the bean hopper lock 90°
clockwise into LOCK position.
Tip:Ifthebeanhopperhasnotbeenlockedintoposition,themessage»LOCKBEANHOPPER«
will be displayed on the screen. Additionally, operation of the appliance is disabled for safety.
4. Fill coffee beans into the bean hopper; 450 g at the maximum.
Tip: The bean hopper can be removed while still containing coffee beans. For this turn the
bean hopper lock counter-clockwise and lift the bean hopper upwards and out. The locking
system closes the bottom outlet of the bean hopper.
5. Place the lid on top of the bean hopper.
6. Plug the power cord into mains power outlet.
Operating your Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro
1. Turn the GRIND SIZE dial for selecting your grind size. For
each coffee style, Espresso, Percolator, Filter and Plunger, the
grind size will differ. Within each coffee style there is a range
of settings. Experiment with different grind settings to achieve
thebrewthatsuitsyourtastebest.(See:›CustomisingthePre-
Settings‹and›TipsforBestResults‹)
Tip: You will find further information on the grind size required for your coffee machine in the
operating instructions of your coffee machine.
2. Select the required amount of grinds by pressing the
SHOTS|CUPSbutton.Repeatedlypress theSHOTS|CUPS
button until the desired number of cups/shots is displayed.
(See ›Coffee Preparation Chart in section Tips for Best Re-
sults‹) When the maximum number is reached, the display
switches back to 1.
– For Espresso, 2 shots are possible at the maximum.
– For all other types of preparation, 12 cups are feasible.
In automatic mode, your Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro will automatically adjust the
actually prepared amount depending on the preselected grind size.
Tip:YoucanincreasetheselectedamountevenduringoperationbypressingtheSHOTS|CUPS
button. In automatic mode, the appliance will always provide the amount, currently selected
and displayed on the screen.
3. Place a suitable vessel as near as possible under the grind outlet. You may use any vessel
fitting under the grind outlet. If necessary, hold the vessel with your hand during operation.

• WhenusingfilterbagsorPortafilter,youmayfillthefilterbasketorPortafilterdirectly
without any need to transfer the ground coffee from another receptacle.
• Portafilterpossiblyfitinoneofthesuppliedcradles.(See:›GrindingintoPortafilter‹)
• Ifyouwishtostoresomecoffeepowderforlateruse,youshouldusethesuppliedgrinds
container.See›Filling theGrindsContainer‹ forfurther instructions.However,anyother
fitting container will do. Do not store ground coffee for a too long period of time in the
container, to avoid loss of quality.
4. Start and stop the grinding operation. You can do this in 2 ways.
• Automatic Mode: Press and immediately release either the START|PAUSE|CANCEL
button or Portafilter button once to activate the automatic mode. This way, grinding will auto-
matically stop when the calculated amount is prepared. However, you can stop the process
prematurelybypressingtheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttonagain.
•ManualGrinding:PressandholdeithertheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttonorthePor-
tafilter button for as long as you wish to operate the grinder. The grinding will stop as soon as
youreleasetheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttonorPortafilterbutton.
Tip:ThebuttonsSTART|PAUSE|CANCELundPortafilterexecuteexactlythesamefunction.You
canoperatethePortafilterbuttonbypressingthebuttonwiththeusedvessel(e.g.Portafilter).
5. Take out the ground coffee after the milling works come to a standstill.
WARNING: Do not leave the appliance unattended, while it is connected to the power sup-
ply. Always unplug the appliance, when it is not in use.
6. If you have finished your work, always unplug the appliance.
Grinding into Portafilter
Portafilters are special filter inserts for semi-automatic and piston-driven espresso machines.
The ground coffee is tamped in the filter. Thus, the volume is reduced to approx. one third.
Because of this, it is quite normal for the correct amount of ground coffee to appear overfilled
in your portafilter.
1. PreparetheapplianceasdescribedinPreparingthe›ApplianceforUseandOperating
yourDesignCoffeeGrinderAdvancedPro‹.
2. Choosethecradlesizethatfitsyourportafilter:50to54mmor58mm.
3. Slide the cradle into position under grind outlet. If installed correctly, the cradle is secured
in place via a magnet.
4. Insert the Portafilter into the cradle.
Tip: You can grind directly into your Portafilter even if it does not fit into the supplied cradles.
For this, without any cradle attached, hold the Portafilter with your hand under the grind outlet,
while starting the appliance.
5. StartthegrindingoperationusingtheSTART|PAUSE|CAN-
CEL button or Portafilter button. You can use the automatic
mode: only shortly press the button and let the appliance
operate until the set amount is ground. Alternatively control
thegrindingmanually:holdthebuttonpresseduntilthedesi-
red amount is ground. The grinding will stop, as soon as you
release the button.

Tip: You can press the Portafilter button with your finger or by pressing the Portafilter on it.
6. After grinding is finished, remove the Portafilter carefully to avoid spilling the coffee pow-

WARNING: Do not leave the appliance unattended, while it is connected to the power sup-
ply. Always unplug the appliance, when it is not in use.
7. If you have finished your work, unplug the appliance.
Grinding into the Grind Container
You can grind into the grind container without the lid. However, we recommend keeping the
lid on to prevent coffee grinds from escaping. Additionally, without the lid, the magnet at the
rear of the appliance cannot hold the grind container in place.
1. PreparetheapplianceasdescribedinPreparingthe›ApplianceforUseandOperating
yourDesignCoffeeGrinderAdvancedPro‹.
2. Open the grey cap on the grind container lid. Do not attempt
to completely remove the cap.Simply turn the cap aside and
place it in the well in the lid.
3. Slide in the grind container (the opening in the lid facing
towards the appliance) directly under the grind outlet until it
snaps in place at the magnet in the rear of the appliance.
4. Press the START|PAUSE|CANCEL button to start the grin-
dingprocess.Youcanusetheautomaticmode:onlyshortly
press the button and let the appliance operate until the cal-
culated amount is ground. Alternatively control the grinding
manually:holdthebuttonpresseduntilthedesiredamountis
ground. The appliance will stop, as soon as you release the
button.
5. After grinding is finished, remove the grind container. Close the grind container with the cap.
WARNING: Do not leave the appliance unattended, while it is connected to the power sup-
ply. Always unplug the appliance, when it is not in use.
6. If you have finished your work, unplug the appliance.
Customising the Pre-Settings
You can adapt the appliance to your particular liking for always getting your preferred taste
of perfect coffee. For this, the appliance offers features for pre-setting. Just try and see whether
the results meet your individual taste. Even after disconnecting the appliance from the power
supply, the appliance will keep your pre-settings, until you modify the adjustments by turning
the dials GRIND SIZE and/or ADJUST AMOUNT.

Adjusting the Grind Amount
ViatheGRINDAMOUNTfunction,youcanmodifythepresetamounttodelivermoreorless
grinds per cup or shot. Thus, you will get your coffee as strong as you prefer, independently
from the number of cups/shots you wish to prepare.
1. Correctlypreparetheapplianceforoperation(see:›PreparingtheApplianceforUse‹).
2. Turn the GRIND AMOUNT button.
– Turn to the right to increase the amount per cup/shot.
– Turn to the left to decrease the amount per cup/shot. The
current selection is displayed via the LESS / MORE scale at
the lower left side of the screen. Each bar on the scale depicts
adeviationof8%fromthenormalsetting(0).Youcanselect
up to 40 % LESS or MORE than normal setting.
Selecting the Grind Size
Variouswaysofbrewingcoffeerequiredifferentgrindsizestogivethebestresults.Inthe
uppermostlineonthescreen,thevarioustypesareindicated:PLUNGER(plungercoffeema-
chines),FILTER(manualpreparationanddripfilter coffee machines),PERCOLATOR (coffee
machines),ESPRESSO(espressomachines).Thereisafinegradingwithintheseranges,which
is partly indicated on the scale COARSE to FINE. The current setting is given by the arrow on
the scale.
For information on the type of coffee maschine you use and the required settings, see the ope-
rating instructions of your coffee maschine.

2. Turn the grind size dial at the right side of the appliance. You
can turn the grind size dial in several revolutions. Depending
on the set range, each grading line on the scale corresponds
to various settings of the dial.
Tip:Thearrowonthescale(COARSEtoFINE)movesoverthescalewhileturningtheGRIND
SIZE dial, always showing the current setting. In the grind size range for coffee machines
(PLUNGER to PERCOLATOR) and manual preparation, the number of cups is indicated as
CUPS whereas the grind size range for espresso machines it is indicated as SHOTS.

Adjusting conical burrs
Some types of coffee may require a wider grind range to achieve an ideal extraction or brew.
A feature of your Design Coffee Grinder Advanced Pro is the ability to extend this range with
an adjustable upper burr. We recommend making only one adjustment at a time.

CARE AND CLEANING
Regular cleaning helps the grinder achieve consistent grinding results which is especially
important when grinding for the use with espresso machines. Additionally, you avoid disad-
vantages to flavour and taste due to any remainder left in the grinder.
WARNING: Always ensure that the appliance and any parts and accessories of it are out
of reach of young children. Always unplug the appliance, before moving, disassembling,
or cleaning the appliance.
The appliance is intended for grinding roasted coffee beans. Therefore, the milling works and
the burr sleeve can cause severe injuries when handled improperly. Do not hold your fingers or
any foreign objects into the grinder, and do not poke in the grind outlet, while the appliance
is connected to the power supply. Always unplug the appliance before moving, disassembling
or cleaning the appliance.
CAUTION:Donotuseanyabrasivecleaners,cleaningpads(e.g.metalscouringpads),or
anycorrosivechemicals(e.g.bleach)forcleaningtheapplianceoranypartsofit,toavoidda-
mage to the surfaces. Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects for cleaning. Do not immer-
se the power base or power cord in water or any other liquid. Do not spill or drip any liquids
on or in the power base or power cord to avoid risk of fire and electric shock. Do not clean
the appliance or any part of it in an automatic dishwasher. Do not use violence!
Do not clean the milling works with damped brushes. Coffee powder will stick together, and
therefore clog up and block the milling works, when getting in contact with moisture.

For operation the bean hopper is locked on the power base. Do not use violence, when att-
empting to remove the bean hopper or release the lock, to avoid damage.
Disassembling the Appliance
1. Unplug the appliance and remove the bean hopper lid.
2. Turn the bean hopper lock counterclockwise to unlock the bean hopper. Then lift the bean
hopper up and out.
3. Remove the coffee beans from the bean hopper. Then reassemble the bean hopper and turn
the bean hopper lock clockwise to lock the bean hopper in place.
4. Replace the bean hopper lid and insert the plug into the power outlet.
5. PressandholdtheSTART|PAUSE|CANCELbuttontorunthemillingworksuntilitisempty,
with no more coffee powder coming out of the grind outlet.
6. Unplug the appliance, remove the bean hopper lid.
7. Unlock and remove the bean hopper.
WARNING:Toavoidinjuries,alwaysunplugtheappliance(screengetsdark),beforegra-
sping in the milling works.
8. Remove the burr sleeve. For this, grasp the metal shackle of the burr sleeve, and turn the burr
sleeve counter-clockwise until the red arrow on the burr sleeve is pointing to ALIGN.Then lift
the burr sleeve up and out.
9. Remove the grind catch tray from the power base. The grind catch tray is held in place via
a magnet. You can simply pull it out.
Cleaning the Appliance
1. Washallremovablepartsinwarmdishwater.Theseare:grindcatchtray,beanhopperand
bean hopper lid and, when used, the cradle or grind container and grind container lid.
2. Rinse with clear tap water and dry thoroughly.
3. Use the supplied cleaning brush or any other clean, hard and dry brush to clean the milling
works, burr sleeve, and grind outlet.
4. Wipe the exterior of the appliance with a soft damp cloth. Thereafter, polish with a dry cloth.
5. Thereafter leave all parts dry naturally for at least 1 hour, where they are out of reach of
young children. You may dry the milling works and outlet of the bean hopper using a
hair dryer.
6. Reassemble the appliance after cleaning as described below.
Reassembling the Appliance
It is good advice to reassemble the appliance after cleaning. Thus you avoid damage to the
parts of the appliance and the parts cannot get lost. Always ensure that the parts of the appli-
ance are completely dry, before reassembling.
Important: Before re-assembling the appliance, ensure that all parts are clean and comple-
tely dry. This is crucial especially for the milling works, burr sleeve, and bean hopper. Other-

wise, moisture could get into the milling works and coffee powder could stick to the surfaces
and block the milling works.
1. Insert the grind catch tray into the base of the appliance. The grind catch tray is secured via
a magnet. It is correctly in place, when on a level with the
exterior of the power base.
2. Assemble the burr sleeve. For this, grasp the burr sleeve at
the shackle and insert it in the milling works with the red
arrow pointing to ALIGN. Then turn the burr sleeve clockwise
until the red arrow points to LOCK. Doing so, you will dis-
tinctly feel resistance.
Important: For proper operation, it is crucial to assemble and lock the burr sleeve correctly.
Ensure that the red arrow on the brim of the burr sleeve faces to the LOCK designation. The
burr sleeve must be tightly fixed in place.
3. Ensure that the bean hopper lock is in UNLOCK position. It is best to turn the bean hopper
lock back and forth once for checking its position.
4. Place the bean hopper with the bean hopper lock in UNLOCK position on the milling works.
Turn the bean hopper slowly until it settles down on the milling works. Turn the bean hopper
lock into the LOCK position. Now, the bean hopper must have a stable and tight stand on
the appliance and may not tilt or wobble.
5. Cover the bean hopper with the bean hopper lid.
Tip: It is best to keep the bean hopper lid closed, even when the appliance is not in use, to
avoid dust getting into the bean hopper.
STORAGE
WARNING: Always unplug the appliance when it is not in use. Do not leave the appliance
unattended while it is connected to the power supply to avoid risk of electric shock and fire.
Always clean the appliance and all its parts before storing to avoid that any remainder of
coffeewillageinthegrinderandgomouldyorturnrancid(see:›CareandCleaning‹).
Ensure to store the appliance where it is clean, dry and safe from frost, direct sunlight and
inadmissiblestrain(mechanicalorelectricshock,heat,moisture)andwhereitisout of reach
of young children. Place the appliance on a clean and stable surface, where it cannot fall.
Do not place any hard or heavy objects on the appliance or any part of it.
Always handle the power cord with care. Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled,
strained, or squeezed.
Do not use any parts or accessories of the appliance for any other purpose than operating the
appliance. It is good advice to store the parts and accessories of the appliance with the appli-
ance.Forthis,completelyreassembletheapplianceaftercleaning(see:›CareandCleaning‹),
thus protecting all parts against damage and loss.
CAUTION: Do not hold the appliance by the bean hopper or power cord for moving the ap-
pliance. To move the appliance, always grasp the power base at both sides near the bottom
to avoid damage.
