1. Introduction
The SB250/SB2100 two-beam detectors and the SB450/SB4100/SB4200 four-beam
detectors generate an alarm when all the beams are broken simultaneously, ignoring
birds, small animals, dead leaves etc.
They consist of a transmitter module and a receiver module, which are installed facing
each other over the distance to be protected, providing a non-physical invisible detection
zone.
The detector is based on a system of pulsed infrared beams, and operates on four user-
selectable frequencies (channels), avoiding any risk of interference between detectors or
from external light sources such as the sun, street lighting, other infrared sources etc.
2. Principal features
• Maximum outdoor range:
SB250: 50 m SB2100: 100 m
SB450: 50 m SB4100: 100 m
SB4200: 200 m
The range of an infrared detector depends directly on visual range.
Maximum range of an infrared cell according to visibility:
- When visibility is 200 m, the range is 200 m.
- When visibility is 60 m (dense fog), the range is 60 m.
• A fog detector cuts the intruder alarm when there is a drop in the infrared signal due to
fog, heavy snow or heavy rain etc.
• 4 user-selectable frequencies for distinguishing between different detectors.
• SB250 and SB2100 detectors equipped with two beams (1 twin-beam cell).

• SB450, SB4100 and SB4200 detectors equipped with four beams (2 twin-beam cells,
with the alarm only triggered if all four beams are broken simultaneously).
• High degree of resistance to meteorological disturbances and false alarms due to the
powerful twin-beam cells and the facility to adjust the detection response time
according to the site being protected.
• Built-in alignment features: viewfinders, terminals for measuring the signal received.
• Automatic cover removal detection.
• The detector can be oriented horizontally on its adjustable support.
• Independent vertical orientation for each cell.
The detectors should be installed between 0.7 m and 1 m above the ground or in a
column.

Installation instructions
To install the detectors correctly, certain rules must be followed.
3. Installation
To attach the detectors to a metallic support, drill 4 holes measuring 3 mm and use the
sheet metal screws provided.
To fix the detectors to a wall, use appropriate screws and wall plugs for the type of wall
(we recommend at least Ø5 x 30 screws).
• Drill 4 holes and insert wall plugs.
• Position the holes in the adjustable support over the wall plugs.
Do not place the detector on an unstable support
(such as a mesh or a poorly fixed post) Make sure that no vegetation can interrupt
the beams.
Do not install receivers facing the
directed or reflected rays of the
sun or alongside highly reflective
surfaces.
When detectors are placed one
above the other, make sure they
are configured to use different
channels.

Removing the infrared cover
• Remove the screw attaching the infrared cover, taking care not to lose the staple. (1)
• Slide the cover upwards until it is stopped by the top plate. (2)
• Pull the cover outwards from the grooves in the chassis to remove it. (3)

Connecting the terminal block
We recommend that different power supplies are used for the module and the heating.

Note: If a single cable is used to supply power to several elements, the distances given should be
divided by the number of elements connected to the cable.
If several wires of the same cross-sectional area and polarity are placed in parallel, the
distances given should be multiplied by the number of wires.

* This will free up the alarm relay when there are several alarm relays connected in series
(for example, different units on one pillar). If this option is not required, connect the alarm
and disqualification relays in series.
Connecting the tampering detection contact
Remove the PCB at the bottom of the module, connect the two wires and then replace the
PCB, sliding it in the two grooves until it can go no further, and taking care not to twist the
contact strip.
4. Channel selection
To avoid different detectors at the same site interfering with each other, they are equipped
with a choice of 4 frequencies (channels).
Each receiving and transmitting pair must be set to use the same channel. This is done
using DIP switches 3 and 4 at the top of the terminal block. The channel is validated by

the receiver and the transmitter when the detector is switched on. (Switching channels
once the detector is powered up has no effect.)
When the detectors are placed one on top of the other (fig. 1) or placed in the same
alignment (fig. 2), allocate different channels to each detector.
5. Alignment and settings
Optical alignment
This alignment step consists of making the axes of the transmitting and receiving modules
coincide.
Start with the transmitter modules, and adjust the alignment by using the built-in
viewfinders.

Aligning the cells visually
1. Slightly unscrew the module’s adjustable
support.
2. Position your eye at an oblique angle about
5 cm from the module as shown in the
diagram to the right.
3. Look in the mirror inside the module to see
the image of the module opposite through
the hole in the side of the cell.
4 – Horizontal alignment: Rotate the
adjustable support by up to 90°
– Vertical alignment
(SB2100/SB4100/SB4200): Turn the
thumbscrew by up to 10°
– Vertical alignment (SB250 and SB450):
Rotate the beam cell.
5. Once the optimal alignment has been
achieved, tighten the screw of the adjustable
support to lock horizontal rotation.
Optimising the reception
Power up the detector, making sure that the green LED on the transmitter and the red LED
on the receiver light up. Depending on the detector type, proceed as follows:

* For distances less than 150 m, first select the beam cell to align by setting DIP switch 1
to ON for the lower beam cell and then DIP switch 2 to ON for the upper beam cell on both
the transmitting and receiving modules.
** For distances greater than 150 m, we strongly recommend the use of the alignment
controller (SB51). Leave the DIP switches in the OFF position.

Connect a voltmeter to the + and – terminals for measuring the signal received on the
receiver unit, and look for the maximum deviation by optimising the direction of each cell.
The alignment controller SB51 can be used to optimise the positions of the transmitter
cells in the event of alignment problems.
When the beam cells are correctly aligned, do not forget to set DIP switches 1 and 2
to OFF.

The values in the table above are given for voltages measured while the terminal is in
normal operating mode (DIP switches 1 and 2 are OFF on both the transmitter and the
receiver).
6. Using the alignment controller (SB51)
1. Using
The alignment controller SB51 is used to align the SB250, SB2100, SB450, SB4100 and
SB4200 detectors. It is equipped with powerful LEDs and a buzzer that indicate the signal
level received at the receiver module. It should be connected to the receiver module.
The frequency of the buzzer and the LEDs indicates the quality of the alignment. This
frequency increases as the signal received by the receiver beam cells improves and vice
versa.

2. Installing
1. Fit the fixing clip to the top plate of
the receiver module.
2. Rotate the alignment controller SB51
in the direction of the transmitting
module.
3. Connecting
Connect up the Signal and Power cables, making sure they do not pass in front of the
cells.
• Signal cable: connects to the received signal measurement terminals on the receiver
unit.
• Power cable: connects to the module’s power supply or an external power supply (see
technical specifications).
7. Operating the alignment controller (SB51)
1. On the receiver, select the maximum SB51
sensitivity by turning the SENSITIVITY knob as
far clockwise as it will go.
2. Adjust the direction of the transmitter beam
cells until you obtain a continuous tone from
the buzzer and the maximum flashing
frequency on the LEDs. (If there is no signal,
the frequency of the LEDs and the buzzer is 1
Hz.)
3. To further refine the adjustment, reduce the
sensitivity of the SB51 on the receiver by
turning the SENSITIVITY knob anti-clockwise
to mid-range.
4. Continue as in step 2 until you obtain the
maximum signal.

5. Check the received signal using a voltmeter
connected to the measurement terminals on
the alignment controller SB51 and ensure that
the alignment complies with the table in the
“Optimising reception” section (page 8.)

Adjusting the intruder alarm response time
Adjust the response time of the intruder alarm by turning the response time potentiometer.
In this way you can adapt the sensitivity of the detector to its environment. A long
response time reduces sensitivity.

8. Replacing the infrared cover
• Engage the infrared cover in the grooves in the chassis, taking care not to lose the
staple. (1)
• Slide the cover upwards until it is stopped by the top plate. (2)
• Place it flat along the chassis, then slide it downwards and screw in the cover fixing
screw. (3)
9. Final tests
After installation, make sure everything is working with an overall system test.
For SB250 and SB2100 detectors:
• Interupting the beam (intruder alarm).
• Prolonged interuption of the beam for more than 1 minute (interuption alarm).
For SB450, SB4100 and SB4200 detectors:
• Interupting the beam of just one of the two cells: alarm not triggered.
• Interupting the beam of both cells: intruder alarm.
• Prolonged interuption of both beams for more than 1 minute (interuption alarm).
10. Regular maintenance
To keep good ongoing performance levels, minimal maintenance is required:
• Clean the infrared covers of each module at least once a year (or more often,
depending on exposure to soiling).
• Repeat the final tests (once a year).

• Read the beam cell’s received signal values once a year in the same way as when the
equipment was installed (in order to identify any loss of performance).
11. Troubleshooting

1. Introduction
Les barrières à infrarouge actif bi-faisceaux type SB250 / SB2100 et quadri-faisceaux type
SB450 / SB4100 / SB4200 génèrent une information d'alarme sur coupure simultanée de
tous ses faisceaux, tout en ignorant les oiseaux, petits animaux, feuilles mortes, etc...
Elles se composent d'un module émetteur et d'un module récepteur, à installer en vis à vis
sur la distance à protéger, ceci constituant une zone de détection immatérielle et invisible.
Cette barrière utilise un principe d'émission infrarouge pulsé fonctionnant sur 4 fréquences
(canaux) sélectionnables, permettant ainsi d’éviter tout risque de perturbation des
barrières entre elles, et apportant une bonne immunité aux interférences lumineuses
extérieures tel que : soleil, éclairage public, autres sources infrarouges.

La portée d'une barrière infrarouge est directement liée à la portée visuelle.
Portée maximum d'une cellule infrarouge en fonction de la visibilité :
- Lorsque la visibilité est de 200m, la portée atteint 200m
- Lorsque la visibilité est de 60m (brouillard dense), la portée est de 60m
• Détecteur de brouillard avec inhibition de l'alarme intrusion, signalant une baisse du
signal infrarouge due au brouillard, forte neige, forte pluie...
• 4 fréquences sélectionnables permettant de différencier les barrières entre elles.
• Barrières type SB250 et SB2100 équipées d’une bi-émission (1 cellule à bi-émission).

• Barrières type SB450, SB4100 et SB4200 équipées d'une quadri-émission (2 cellules à
bi-émission devant être coupées simultanément pour déclencher l'alarme).
• Grande tenue aux perturbations météorologiques et aux alarmes intempestives grâce à
de puissantes cellules à bi-émission, et à un temps d'immunité de la détection réglable
permettant de s'adapter aux sites protégés.
• Moyens d'alignement intégrés : viseurs, borne de mesure du signal reçu.
• Autosurveillance à l'ouverture du capot infrarouge.

Précautions de mise en œuvre
Afin de bien installer les barrières, il est important de respecter certaines règles.
3. Installation
Pour une fixation sur support métallique, percer 4 trous de 3 mm et utiliser les vis à tôle
fournies.
Pour une fixation murale, utiliser des vis et chevilles adaptées au type de mur (Vis
conseillée Ø5 x 30 mini).
• Percer 4 trous et fixer les 4 chevilles.
• Positionner les trous du support orientable en face des chevilles.
Ne pas poser la barrière sur un support instable
(ex : grillage, poteau mal scellé... ) Vérifier qu'aucune végétation ne puisse
masquer les faisceaux.

Démontage du capot infrarouge
• Enlever la vis de fixation du capot infrarouge en veillant à ne pas perdre l'agrafe. (1)
• Faire glisser le capot infrarouge vers le haut jusqu’en butée dans la flasque supérieure.

• Dégager le capot infrarouge des rainures du châssis vers l'extérieur pour l'extraire. (3)
Raccordement du boîtier électronique
Il est conseillé d’utiliser une alimentation différente pour l’alimentation du module et du
chauffage.
