Installation Instructions
Introduction
This is the GE PrecisionLine RCR-90 Motion Sensor Installation
Instructions. The PrecisionLine dual-technology sensor
combines range-controlled radar (RCR) technology with a
passive infrared (PIR) system to increase false-alarm immunity
by allowing it to sense human-sized objects within a specified
range. Both the RCR and PIR system must be triggered to set off
an alarm, unless in stealth mode (radar only).
The sensor is designed to use a 12 VDC power supply provided
by a UL listed alarm control panel.
All wiring must conform to National Electric Code (NEC) and
local codes having jurisdiction.
The sensor provides the following features:
Stealth mode (radar only). Internal jumper allows you to
disable the PIR and use radar only to detect intruders
faster. You can use this mode for covert installations
(mounted behind walls).
Selectable range up to 90 ft. (27 m). Internal jumper
allows radar range selection to optimize coverage.
LED indicator. A multicolor LED provides sensor status.
Tamper switch. The tamper switch is activated when the
pins on the circuit board are removed from the terminal
sockets on the base.
The following parts are included (Figure 1):
• RCR-90 sensor;
• 1 housing screw; and
• 3 factory-installed jumpers.

Mounting location
You can mount the sensor in a corner or on a flat wall. Use the
following mounting guidelines:
• Mount the sensor so the expected movement of an intruder
is across the coverage pattern (Figure 2).

• Mount the sensor on a stable surface 8 to 12 ft.
(2.4 to 3.7 m) high.
• Do not mount the sensor within 2 ft. (0.6 m) of any metallic
objects or within 5 ft. (1.5 m) of fluorescent lights.
• Do not place any objects in front of the sensor that may
prevent a clear line of sight (not applicable in radar-only
mode).
• Avoid mounting locations that expose the sensor to possible
false alarm sources such as:
• moving or vibrating objects (fans, pulleys, conveyer
belts);
• electronic fields (electric motors, high voltage equip-
ment);
• water spray or corrosive environments;
• windows or heat sources in the field of view; and
• strong air drafts on the sensor (fans, air conditioners).
• When installing multiple sensors do not mount the sensors
facing each other. Mount them at least 50 ft. (15 m) apart.
CAUTION: Do not use this device for safety
interlock applications.

Installation
To install the sensor, do the following:
1. Run the security system wiring to the mounting location.
2. To remove the cover/electronic module, remove the housing
screw. Pull out on the top of the cover and lift it off
(Figure 1 on page 1).
3. If necessary, set the jumpers on the circuit board (see
Jumper settings on page 3).
4. Remove the appropriate wiring and mounting knockouts
from the sensor base (Figure 3).

5. Pull the wires through the wiring knockout hole and strip
1/4 in. (6.4 mm) of insulation from each wire.
6. Run each wire through the strain relief (Figure 3) and under
the appropriate terminal (Figure 4) then tighten the screws.

7. Use screws and screw anchors (if needed) to attach the base
to the wall. See Mounting adjustments.
8. Line up the tabs on the bottom of the cover/electronic
module with the corresponding tabs on the bottom of the
base and push the cover/electronics module firmly down
onto the base.
9. Tighten the housing screw (Figure 1 on page 1).
10. Apply power. The LED on the bottom of the unit should
light green for approximately 25 seconds and then go out.
When the green light goes out, begin the walk test.
11. To walk test the coverage pattern, walk throughout the
intended coverage area. The LED should light green or
yellow within four steps across the pattern. Verify that the
sensor alarms (LED lights red). See LED on page 3.
Most sensors walk test more accurately if you wait 10
seconds between the time you trip the sensor and the time
you test again. This allows the sensor to stabilize between
tests.
Mounting adjustments
You can use the bracket to adjust the angle of coverage when you
are mounting the sensor on a flat wall. Figure 5 shows the best
initial settings for various mounting heights. Make sure the
mounting screws are tightened before testing the sensor. If you
need to make further adjustments, loosen the bottom screw,
adjust the bracket, tighten the bottom screw, and test the sensor.
Use a wallplate when you mount the sensor to an electrical
gangbox.

Remove the bracket when you mount the unit in a corner and
mount the sensor using two corner mount knockouts (Figure 3)
on one vertical side of the sensor.
CAUTION: You must be free of all static electricity
before handling sensor circuit boards.

Jumper settings
Use the jumpers provided on the sensor to select the detection
range, LED, and PIR/radar operation (Figure 6).

J2 detection range jumper
Use the J2 jumper (Figure 6) to set the detection range. Cover the
center pin and the pin indicating the range you want. The factory
default jumper setting is 90 ft. (27.4 m). If no jumper is set, the
detection range will be set at 90 ft. (27.4 m) and under.
Set the J2 detection range jumper as close to the intended
coverage range as possible. Overshooting the coverage area may
cause false alarms.

J3 LED jumper
Use the J3 jumper to enable or disable the LED. Figure 8 shows
the jumper settings. The factory default is LED enabled.

J4 PIR/radar jumper
Use the J4 jumper to enable PIR and radar or radar only. Figure 9
shows the jumper settings. The factory default is PIR and radar
enabled.

Maintenance
When installed and used properly, the sensor provides years of
service with minimal maintenance. Walk test the sensor annually
to ensure proper operation.
Clean the inside of the sensor with a soft-bristled brush or
compressed air. Clean the outside with a damp (water) as needed
to keep it free of dust and dirt. Always test the sensor after
cleaning.
When you remove the cover, power is interrupted to the sensor.
Once you replace the cover, the green LED lights for 25 seconds
while the sensor warms up. After the green LED goes off, wait
one minute and walk test the sensor.
